Battery life - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Battery life seems to be like a year old phone for me, it's terrible. I have the 5g version. Nit on 5g yet but it doesn't seem very good. Any tips

How new/old is your device? Also exynos or snap?
I've got a 2 day old exynos and I'm pretty impressed, seem to be getting over 7-8hrs sot.

A month or so old

It's funny because when I wrote my initial reply it did seem impressive. But as the days go by, its perhaps a bit less impressive! Seems to be draining a bit quicker. Probably got more like 5hrs sot today, although that's not bad I think I just expected more.
I do recall with my s10 plus it was similar then after a week or 2 battery optimizations kicked in and it seemed really good.
I can't think of any specific settings. Main things I've done are put social media apps to not background sync, dark mode all the time and adaptive power saving.

Yeah battery life is not this phone’s strong suit. I barely make it through the day with every battery saving possibilities activated.
I did get a used 3 month old for an incredible price so can't complain more. Cheers!

[Q] HOX International Version: Some Doubts

I have decided to get the HOX instead of the GS3 as I can get the 32GB for the price of a 16GB galaxy, and the hardware seems much better and the phone much nicer.
As far as I understand, the 32GB version is the INTERNATIONAL version which basically is a 4 cores and no LTE HOX.
If I get this international version, there would be no problems with rooting and installing custom roms?
My other and very important concern, what about battery life? I read comments where it says it lasts about 6 hours of normal use, which is too little. I thought the HOX had great battery life, or is this a problem with the international version only?
THANKS!
Please ask about this on the international one x forums
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2
Didn't realized there was one, can any moderator move it there? Thanks.
One xl comes in 32gb in several regions. That spec alone does not define if the phone is Evita or endeaver.
I'm positive is not the LTE because is about 500 new unlocked for 32GB, and it says GSM phone on the description.

If you're worried about development progress on the HoX T3, you've got nothing to worry about. It's one of the most active dev forums on XDA. If you got the XL version then you have reason to worry cos development there is a bit on the slow side unfortunately /:
6 hours of normal use? Define normal use I get 3-4 hours on screen time with moderate usage and some heavy duty gaming. Screen auto brightness.
Right, what would be normal use for some would be not normal for others.
I do not use it for long periods of time, but maybe I check incoming emails about 10/20 times a day, send/read another 10/20 whatsapp messages, talk no more than 1 hour on average, and maybe another 30 minutes of browsing.
I currently have a SGS2, and I manage to get about 14 hours of phone use like that, more or less, would I be able to get better battery on the HOX? Would it make any difference if it is the dual core or quad core version?
Thanks.

The dual core version has better battery life while in use, but the quad core one has better standby performance cos of it's 5th companion core. Since the phone will be on standby for the majority of the time, it kinda evens out. Tegra 3 has better talk time, while S4 has better on screen time. Both will definitely last you a whole day at the least I haven't checked out battery performance in awhile, cos it's always plugged in at my office pc But I can do a few tests starting today/tomorrow for a few days to see what my combination of ROM and Kernel does for battery life.
Thanks for the information. So I would buy the international version then, and an S3, just in case, and see which one gives me more battery (really hope it is the HOX, as the S3 is horrible, the S2 is much better looking).

The S3 does have a bigger battery though.. Also depends which S3 you're getting, the S4 Krait or the Exynos version (international)

I currently have an S2, which I love, even if I would like the battery to last 2~4 more hours at least, which I would like to upgrade from.
While I love the aesthetics of the S2 in general, I do not like the S3 that much, and love the HOX aesthetics. My only problem with the HOX, or any other phone for that matter, is again battery time.
I think that in general, the HOX and the S3 are more or less the same, the only differences being aesthetics and maybe battery time.
So you are saying that the S3 has a longer lasting battery? Would the Krait last longer in general than the Exynos or the opposite?
I would prefer the HOX, any of the HOXes, to the S3, but battery is the most important thing for me, so much that I have even considered a Razr Maxx, but I'm not so sure about it.
If battery is of the utmost importance, then maybe you'd like to wait for the HoX+ that will be out in shops soon. It has a bigger battery, slightly better front camera, comes with JB and Sense 4+ and a slightly faster clocked Tegra 3. I haven't seen many S3 Exynos reviews yet cos most review sites are US-based, hence having access to the Krait version first. For really in-depth reviews I go for anandtech, they did a review for the Krait S3's already but none for the Exynos yet.
The HoX+ has a 2100 mAh battery, while the S3 has a 2100 mAh battery as well. Both will last you through a day easily, with the S3 slightly ahead.
I would say the Krait would outlast the Exynos, but that's just me making a guess haha.

Considering upgrading from a G2 to a G4? What's the battery life really like?

Hope I'm posting this on the right place, missed it and was told by an ad where to place last questions when I asked about another phone.... but of course I can't remember what he told me back then :silly:
Anyway, how is the battery life on a G4? From tech blogs to youtube reviews, opinions are all over the place. Some people say 2 and something SOT. Others claim it's great and that they can go a full day with heavy use and 3d gaming, etc and report over 5 hours SOT with that sort of use.
I loved my G2 for a long time because of how well it battery would last. It's not very good anymore, it went through a lot of charging cycles... Hardware and specs are enough for me, so I don't need the 820 on the G5 nor am I feeling the love for that phone from what I've seen. Especially for the difference on price the two will have and the bargain price one can get some places for a G4.
GSM Arena tools tell me the endurance batery test for the G2 is 81h, a terrible 54h on the G4. Web browsing (more the sort of load I tend to pull from a battery when it comes to SOT) gives it a much more bleak picture: 11:24 for the G2 and only 7:54 for the G4.
Should I trust these numbers? Is the G4 such a power hoarder? Are the different numbers I come across because of some version with or without some update that improved/made things worst?
I'm referring to a non-branded G4, international version. Opinions from real life users would be much appreciated!
Cheers! :good:

I have had a g4 for about 2 weeks and i want my g3 back even it seemed better on power than this. My g2 was pbenominal even acter 1.5 years old. This thing but i only have root no bootloader unlock no custom roms or kernals
I made that jump last week.
The G2 was an excellent phone.
The G3 didn't seem like much to me, and I couldn't understand the battery drop-off.
I'm loving the G4, the camera's excellent and the battery life, though not as good as the G2 is not bad at all.
So already I have two different experiences... one that the G3 is better than the G4, another the exact opposite Why is there such a discrepant experience? I know about low signal and constant scanning but I assume those two members above are using their phones on the same region/places/ways...
My G2 battery life is better than G4 at first. Then I turned off two cores in my G4, disabled some settings, and everything seems great now. Good battery life.
Today's battery life on my G4 H815,MM 20d,unlocked bootloader+root+Xposed+Greenify

I had my g3 modded out the gills. Undervolted all linds done bare minimal stock system i could get almost 2 days of moderate usage 6 to 8 bours sot. G4 i love the camera still expiermenting. Im rooted ive managed a few tweaks but not scare of bricking just hate to have to start over. Want over clock undervolt and id be happy. Just knowing i got a locled tight bootloader urks me the most. Its a great phone. Would prefer my g2 over 3 or 4 untill bootloader gets unlocked. I have a lotta quirks on mine i could fix. The battery seems to stay full untill about 12 or 1 then drops at about 1 percent every 3 or 4 min. So i charge off and on throug the day so when i home at night itll make it to bed with like 35 or 40 left
Well, those numbers posted look better than my G2 ever was. But I'm also seeing there's a lot of customization involved to unlock the potential of the phone. Is that why people are reporting such major differences? I must be getting way too old as I no longer find it fun to mess around with phones and PCs, I just want something that works and gets updates that make it better... NO!! This doesn't mean I should go with an Iphone!!
More of a general question... could it be worth keeping the G2 until these new midrange phones with the SD650 or 652 (something like that) start to pop up? I mean, they'll be more powerful than the G2 and probably as cheap or cheaper than a G4. I'm thinking about phones like the Idol 4S.
I've been away from the smartphone market for a long time and I'm having a real hard time catching up. Samsung seems to have turned into some sort of Apple where you pay for the "prestige" of the brand. Motorola has a couple interesting phones but apparently the new Lenovo owner is going to end the brand and I have no idea if that means support. And then these new Chinese phones seem interesting and apparently have good support... Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.
Point being, new midrange is pretty much flagship to my sort of use! It's hard for me to figure out if I even need a new phone! But I would hate to lose the buttons on the back, something that I think only LG owners would get
@Kutusov having read the above, I would seriously recommend the G4.
It's cheap (actually very well priced), still be cheaper as soon as the G5 is released, it's an excellent phone with a FANTASTIC camera.
And it's got the back buttons. In a very short time you'll understand just how far phones have moved in such a short time.
The G2 was spectacular in it's time.
The G3 was refinement but rough.
The G4 blows it away.
Made the jump from the G2 to the G4 a year ago, not disappointed at all
Battery life difference is roughly ~30 minutes worth of screen on time, with the G2 edging out ahead, everything else is just hands down better on the G4 ( excluding the rear facing speaker -_- )
So I'd say go for it, phone's pretty cheap now.
You'll get different results from everyone as we each use our phones differently, different apps and priorities.
If you have social media constantly updating and play 3d games you will need to carry a charger with you, it won't make it through a whole day.
I've disabled most of the bloat, use greenify and get upto 5hrs SOT when reading an ebook from the SD card, but only 3hrs when browsing on mobile data.
Overall I'm very happy with the G4, it would have been even better without the useless 4k screen but there's always a compromise.
I've had the G4 since July 2015 and I'm satisfied with battery consumption(Canadian H812 variant). Not rooted. I disable apps I don't use, installed Lux to control brightness & GPS is only ever used when I need it (rarely).
Per gsam app, averages since last complete charge:
Battery life: 1d 16.9hrs
Screen on: 5hr 48mins

I didn't have the G2, but I'll speak for the G4: the battery is OK.
I usually recharge every 2 days with a normal use (internet surfing, music, watch an episode of a series in the bus, watch the time,...)

Yes, I'll probably go for it. I've seen it somewhere for €330, brand new and sealed, same price no matter what sort of back cover.
I really do like the back buttons, I always go looking for them when I pick some other phone, I would really miss those.
Cheers guys! :highfive:

How did ya disable the big cores?
The only solution I found was a script.
With the custom Kernels I tried they always turned themself back on. But its been a while since I tried one.
And you get the battery life that you can expect from a 3000mah battery with an 5.5" screen at 1440p.
i would like to get one but not until if ever gets bootloader unlocked for US.
i was on a G2 and bought a G4, the battery life is not bad, but the G2 was way better, but, we are talking about a 1080p screen and a QHD screen...there are no miracles ! I am very happy whit my G4, takes very good pictures and for me, the battery gives "juce" for a day, watching movies/series going to the WEB (3G / 3.5G) but i just turn the data when i want, at home, always with the WiFi turn on, so, i wake up at 6:00AM and i get at home at 6:00PM and i still have 40% our 30%.
For me, this is a very good phone !

Yes, that's more or less my sort of use also. I know that LG wanted to come out with a very good panel to demolish the usually praised amoled from Samsung but it sort of sucks that they did. I have no use for it, maybe it's good for this new VR thing but that's something I'm not even curious to try.
Still, it has the quickest charge possible... swapping batteries
guys i know theres lemon battery. but isnt there like an aftermarket one that will fit like normal but higher mah?

Terrible battery life?

Does any one else get terrible battery life on their Note 7? I get on average 10-13 hrs of battery life, with around 3-4 hours of SOT. I noticed that my android os and android system are usually running around 20 and 30 percent respectively. If you guys have any thoughts or are experiencing similar results any advice would help. Thanks.

Yeah I am getting this too
I'm also getting this. It's incredibly frustrating as I've tried disabling everything and we can't figure out why
since last week i been getting the same and i'm pretty sure its an app that i d/l'ed bc i added a couple since then...
If you use Maps it drains a crap ton, which I think there is something wrong with it on Note 7.
I called Verizon and they are going to send me a replacement device since this is still under my 14 day return window. Hopefully that may change things but who knows. They also mentioned something about having occulus apps installed will drain battery but I don't have any of that. My old Note 4 was great and this Note 7 is fantastic but does not live up to the "Note" standard of battery life I've come to know and love.
That sucks guys I'm getting 6 to 6 and half hours of screen on time and I'm beyond surprised @ how incredible this battery is..
Ditto. 6 plus everyday. Actually better than my first.

Screen on time may not be a great way to judge battery life. You need a breakdown of everything using the battery. Different apps will use different amounts of battery and even the same apps like chrome will be different person to person cause of browsing habits. It all depends what you do on your phone.

Would you mind sharing a couple things like screen brightness, if you use maps, what services are on, if you listen to music, and how much of a power user you are? I am also getting around 3-4 hours of screen on time and would love to get 6.
Thanks
Same for me battery life ia horrible. And the phone is slow
With Bluetooth (fit2) and locations On and brightness on auto, wifi on, sound on vibrate, did some YouTube, Facebook, Instagram. My battery is doing much better than original so far.
Replaced my 7 with the 5.. And getting good battery life so far. This is just another option for those that may still need the pen..

Impressive. I didn't know the note 5 got that much screen on time. I range anywhere from 6-9 on my note 7. Does the note 5 feel that much diff than the 7? I'm going to guess it doesn't have the always on screen. I've really become used to that.

Actually, it's not that bad.. I didn't know it was possible either to be honest.. I just set it up like the 7, and this is what I received.. The battery life is so far seeming to be much like the note 7 for me.
It feels a little heavier in the hand, and wider.. It doesn't give that "ultimate" comfort in the hand like the 7 did, but it's surprisingly comfortable.. Much more so than I thought..
And lol, yes, it actually does have the always on display. It received it in the marshmallow update.. To be honest, from what I can tell so far, the only things major it does not have, are, of course micro slot(this one sucks, but there are tiny micro usb adapters for cheap), the iris scanner(i actually loved this, but oh well), the GIF feature of screen capture(i hope they incorporate that, at some point), and that's pretty much it.. Oh, and of course the edge and no secure folder. But I'm hoping, because of this fiasco, they will roll some of the software features from the 7 to the 5, like the GIF and secure folder.. Not to mention, bring back the eraser function of the pen like it originally was on the notes, and that they incorporated into the 7.
There are indeed a few sacrifices to it that I've discovered in my first couple days of owning it. But nothing that would make me want to go to a non pen s7 or edge.. It even has the pro camera features.. So I'm pretty good and settled actually with it.. I've got my gear 2 paired with it, and functioning normally, all my s notes.. And it's cheaper than the 7.. Now I'm not going to hardly say it's a 7, but at this point, we don't have a choice(unless your going to just try to hold on to your 7 for dear life)..
But it's a very decent alternative to be honest.. It really is..

Snapdragon vs Exynos. Pros and cons. What I have to buy?

I wish to buy with a Snap (HK), but do not know which version is better. I heard that Exynos version has more mods, community.
Or P20 Pro? )
p.s. I do not want to have a ROOT and gaming.
Buy the cheapest one.

As of now exynos kernel is not optimised. Snap845 version will have better battery life.
Get the snap from China or Hk if u want dual sim.

Not according to GSM arena and I've seen some battery tests and exynos version has quite good battery life in this state. With optimisations it will be even better but it's not lacking right now. Maybe the only worse thing than SD is the GPU

What I mean is it might have better battery life but not by that much. S8 is already optimized. I think in the next few months people will be pleasantly surprised with the kernel optimisations Samsung will deliver. Exynos have better potential than sd and if they want they can give us excellent battery, better than the s8 but I guess we'll have to wait. Just relax and enjoy the amazing phone

That's terrible, my s7 edge, S8 plus, and Note FE are better than that.
Ive been waiting for buy an S9 to how this battery issue pans out. I always buy exynos for the unlocked BL and roms etc. But have waited this year due to the exynos issues and even considered the snapdragon because the new exyno is so badly optimized.
Coming from a pixel 2 xl where i get 6hrs plus SOT 4hrs will not cut it.

my battery usage wasn't as terrible at that.. my exynos version regular s9 always get 5hrs SOT at minimal, even at heavy usage days with poor reception.. my SOT averages in 5hrs 30mins though.. not a bad one but not the best too

While it's true battery consumption will greatly vary pending useage, apps, location...tons of variables it seems the exynos this year is overall not very good.
Your numbers are better but it seems more people are not having your luck

When needed to replace the battery?

I have my device maybe some less than 2 years.. and the battery dont good...
I check in the settings and dont have any app that drain my battery.
But If I replace it my device dont waterproof again?
My battery life is also terrible. I believe it to be the latest updates as the first beta release of android 10 the battery life was amazing
So it because the updates?
bad company
I believe so. They make battery life bad so you upgrade to a new phone. I have 5 year old iphones with better battery life than s9. Terrible company.
I did not notice any drastic change in battery life after the Android 10 upgrade. However, you've likely had the phone for around 2 years - probably charging it every day. These types of batteries start to degrade after ~500 charge cycles.
Use this app as a way to understand your battery's health: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo

You may want to consider having the battery changed. Samsung Experience stores charge $50 for the new battery (including installation), and most other Samsung certified repair shops (in the US) seem to charge around that price as well.

I think it was started before the android 10 update..
In this app I cant see the health... I need root..
It was recommend to buy new one and replace?
I think it was better to buy mid-phones anything because it was better with battery life for years
Hmm.. I see that the health indicator (which was an estimate I suppose) is no longer listed in the app. How many Battery Discharge Cycles do you have listed? (listed under "Personal")

But It doesnt waterproof again.
and the glass back can be broken.
It seems to be the exynos versions with the problem what i can gather. I am in the u.k with exynos. Snapdragon chips are much better in these devices so i am led to believe
So what to do?
maybe wipe?

Of course you're joking. My friend's iPhone 6 can't even last for 2 hours !
My Exynos S9's battery life isn't great either (I've been using it for 2 years), it's just on par with iPhone X's battery life. I still get 8 to 10 hours of use with 3 hours of screen on time which isn't terrible. I should tell you that I use my phone too much when it's charging and sometimes I use it heavily, and all of this leads to heating which has a big impact on battery life, so your battery should last more if you aren't a heavy user.

Am not actually joking. I have an iphone 7 in my household which lasts alot longer than my s9.
I get around 2-3 hours on time which is the same as you which i believe is actually terrible. When i first bought this phone i could play on it for hours on end and it would still last till the end of the day. Now i have to avoid going on it as i know it will kill the battery after 2-3 hours. This was brilliant on android oreo when i first bought the phone, ever since its first update it has been ridiculous. I signed up to beta test android 10 and the first ever beta that was released the battery life was amazing. It was like it was brand new again and i could use it all day long without it killing the battery. As they kept the updates coming it kept getting worse until they released the stable version and its been terrible again ever since.
I believe it to be software related as some batteries can last a lifetime, i have lots of chargeable items around the house which i have had for years and they are still as good as they where when i first bought them. I also believe the exynos is worse than the snapdragon. I don't know why but maybe someone will.

It is an option, but i would only be inclined to do this if somebody can confirm it will improve. I however doubt it will. I found changing the power setting from high performance to optimised mode made the battery life a bit better, however it defeats the object of having an s9 and not running at a setting it is designed to.

Yea snapdragon is a bit better. And I agree on many things around the house. Still work good. Maybe try an older version of bit nber on your bootloader. An older update if you can
