Does anyone know of a workaround to get Spotify to download to an external USB drive? I've formatted the USB drive and am using it as internal storage but Spotify doesn't recognize it and seems to only download to internal memory. I have a 32GB Nexus 7 (2013) that's running Android Marshmellow 6.0.1 w/ Timur's kernel for dash installs. I can't seem to find any working Xposed modules to allow me to force it either. There seems to be an option in Developer Options for "force allow apps on external storage" but that doesn't exist on my version of Android. Is there a toggle I can run to get that to work possibly?

Assuming that you are trying to connect to a computer,
USB Mass Storage does not work.
MTP Works, if you are not seeing your device after connecting to computer , then might need to install required drivers, or install samsung kies and that should install the drivers for you...
I have a SanDisk 64G XC micro SD card. Writes and reads no problem
Also USB (female) to micro OTB cable that allows me to use my 128 GB thumb drive, but not all of them.

Yes with my custom rom and kernel. I can connect any usb mass storage without a problem.
I think that OP asks about the option of connecting the device to PC in mass storage mode, i.e. just like normal pendrive, instead of the MTP/PTP protocols.
As far as i have found, it is possible only for the external storage, with help of dedicated app - there is a thread somewhere on xda, don't remember details, but hope it should be easy to find.
P.S. on Note 1 with Samsung stock ICS it was just a matter of running a startup script, don't know if it would work for Note 8

My device is rooted, I'm not as concerned with USB mass storage. I just want MTP to work. I tried uninstalling all drivers and installing KIES.
I tried uninstalling all USB devices and restarting windows 7 to install them back. I tried downloading the using the Note 8 tool kit to install them and NO success installing the MTP drivers. I tried a different computer and it works!
Any suggestions to getting it work on my computer???

Seems i missed a well. I'm afraid I can't help much with MTP problem, the only two suggestions that come to mind are: try on another PC to make sure it's not a device, secondly - on my Note MTP started to behave only after I installed the latest Samsung USB drivers (probably found somewhere on xda).
Update v5.3.1316M of Google Play Music introduced using external storage for your music data. You go into Settings > Downloading > Storage Location and it will show external storage if you have it. It works on many devices with SD card slots like the S4.
I have a USB key over OTG with my Nexus. Using Stickmount or the latest ES File Explorer; the key mounts, I see it at /data/media/0/usbStorage/sda1/, /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1 and /storage/sda1, I can read and write files, it doesn't show up under Settings > Storage, and I can't select it in Google Play Music. I'm assuming something like the Meenova would show the exact same issue.
Anyone know why this is a Nexus issue? Anyone know where the sdcard is mounted on working devices? Has anyone used a ROM that works with Google Music and OTG?
I believe devices that come with SD cards have other settings changed in their version to indicate there is a space for external storage while our device just has software or custom roms that mount these devices. settings like that won't work for play music, camera etc
Does anyone know any tweaks to mount their LG G4 as a Mass storage device ie turn into usb stick? (not MTP)
I did a xda search tried a motorola hack which unsurprisingly didn't work. Maybe someone smarter than me has already done it THANKS!
I also tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888 it is an app on play store USB mass storage enabler. It mounts a SD but no sd is present. Maybe because my card is exFat?
hey buddy try that App its awesome you can use it to install windows on pc no more usb sticks https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid
Thats awesome thanks! It works, but not how I was imagining.
Is there any other apps which make your phone function as an sd card reader?
Hello! I've got a 64GB USB C drive I'd like to use with my bone stock Nexus 5x. It's formatted through the phone, and I get the notification to explore the device storage. Unfortunately, just about no other app can see the device storage. No file manager except for ES File Explorer can see it. Most importantly, I'd like an app called LocalCast to see the device storage for casting media from the drive to Chromecast and other DLNA players without copying to device storage first. But like I say, they don't seem to see the drive.
Is there any way to get this to work? I'm open to rooting if it would make it work, but this is my first experience with OTG, so thought I'd ask here first.
64GB Sandisk micro-sd, formatted to FAT32 with the phone. stickmount(pro) installed and the card is recognized by every app on Nexus 5X MM 6.0.1. Poweramp & MX Player both do auto scan of the card when inserted. I also have a 128GB card formatted to exFAT, it doesn't get recognized by anything other than SolidExplorer's USB plug-in.
Just go with FAT32 Format and get Stickmount app should do the trick.

Yip as stated above stickmount is required for nexus's if rooted.
Otherwise try a play store search for "otg" if unrooted
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en
I see! I kind of thought it would work out of the box with marshmallow but this is very helpful. I just wanted to make sure it would help before I pulled the trigger on root. Thanks guys!
Hi guys, i'm trying to figure the default behavior of FireOS when a FAT32 USB storage is inserted.
In my case, the USB storage it's mounted just find, but it doesn't show anywhere in Settings or in the notifications section.
If i remove the storage FireOS show a notification that tells you to unmount the storage from Settings - My FireTV - USB storage, but that option was not there in first place.
Pease check which is the default behavior with your FireTV 4k and OTG Storage, then share it here
P. S. I'm already working on a method that will let us mount automatically a NTFS/exFAT/EXT4/F2FS usb storage. So far it seems to work just fine and i also managed to make Kodi read/write on that storage. It was only tested with my custom kernel for now, but i"m positive that it will work with stock kernel too, but F2FS support will be lost in that case.
