Does anyone know any tweaks to mount their LG G4 as a Mass storage device ie turn into usb stick? (not MTP)
I did a xda search tried a motorola hack which unsurprisingly didn't work. Maybe someone smarter than me has already done it THANKS!
I also tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297888 it is an app on play store USB mass storage enabler. It mounts a SD but no sd is present. Maybe because my card is exFat?
hey buddy try that App its awesome you can use it to install windows on pc no more usb sticks https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid
Thats awesome thanks! It works, but not how I was imagining.
Is there any other apps which make your phone function as an sd card reader?

Yeah, I know it does, but I was hoping I could get it under settings too, to see how much of music, apps, etc are taking it up.
Or maybe a way I can even mount it as a SD card.
Ahh I see then I have no answer

I am running latest gedeROM with latest Hashcode's kernel on my kindle fire..

i hate mtp. won't work at all on my win8 PC (worked on win7) and can't enable UMS and no app i've tried works.
so far i'm turning the phone off, taking out the mSD card, inserting it into an SD adapter, inserting that into a USB adapter and then connecting to my PC. that's still faster and easier than using MTP or any airdroid equivalent.
why the hell do google/samsung like to mess with things that aren't broken!?
SGS3 Easy UMS

This mounts your external SD card in UMS mode. It has been tested and confirmed working on note II. I use it myself. It requires root. The internal storage however is out of the question.
tried that but it didn't work. couldn't mount the ext sd as it was in use. forced closed everything (literally) and it mounted - but didn't show up in my PC
Okay so my SD works on my phone, but when i connect to compy it says:
E:\
application not found
I uninstalled a bunch of apps thinking they wernt useful, when this happened.
So what apps are needed for Mass storage mode? Thanks
Well sir. Do you have the appropriate drivers installed on your computer?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Was working fine untill I uninstalled the apps :good:
Re-installed Xperia-NXT light edition and the same problem arises o.o
Yes there is app that allows your pc to detect the android device mass storage. If you need to access to your content inside the sd card you must use an sd card adapter. Otherwise use a CWM backup.
Alright in CWM aswell in Mass storage mode it doesnt work.
ROMS before dont work either.. something with my computer?
I've had driver problems something with the pram in macs. Hard to say but did you backup your phone to a point it once was working?

Did you try a different usb port?
Sonygenmod
Hey all,
So I've been having a problem with Mass Storage mode as well. But I fear my problem may be ROM related. I'm running Sonygenmod, and the only access to my phones sd card is through Media Transfer, which isn't nearly as nice or effective as mass storage. Anybody know what's up?
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I didn't found any answers regarding my issue.
So how can I transfer files from my pc using the pad's USB cable?
On my Sony phone with ics, it was enough to enable usb debugging mode and the pc sees it as a flash drive, using usb mass storage.
But here it seems there's no mass storage mode, only mtp and ptp which I don't like.
So what options do I have to actually see my 64 gb card when I connect the pad to the pc? Is it possible?
Cause even with debugging mode enabled it doesn't change anything, still have to use windows explorer and it's working very hard. Any help would be much appreciated.
Not sure I fully understand what's wrong with mtp option but I can fully see my 64GB card when connected to my pc via usb cable. I have successfully copied files to and from the SD this way with no issue. Explain what issue you may be seeing.

Can not see why you have any problems when my G Pad is connected I can see it as a device in My Computer " Not Devices " and when I open it up I see two drives. Internal and external SD card
Make sure you have loaded the LG USB Drivers
Plus it should come up with a list of what you want to do when connected click Open and view files
Thank you for the replies, guys.
Not sure if i made myself clear. Yes, my pc can also see my g pad device in My Computer, but it is not listed as a removable flash drive or an external hdd, thus i cannot see sd card properties, format options and so on. I usually use total commander for transferring files, because windows explorer is way too slow in doing this.
For example, if i want to download a movie or some songs directly to my tablet, how can i do that? With my sony phone is easy, my pc sees it as a removable flash drive, thus is easy to save files directly to it.
But with the g pad that option is gone, or at least i cannot find it. I must first download the files to my pc and only after that transfer them to my pad using windows explorer, which is really working hard. Basically, i have to wait one hour for downloading something, than another hour to transfer the files to my tablet, instead of downloading directly to the tablet.
And all this i believe is the effect of usb mass storage mode missing.
So in the end, is there an option to satisfy my needs?

In settings, go to "system", choose "PC connection", choose "media sync(MTP)".
MTP option does exactly what i was saying earlier, it only gives me the option to use windows explorer to transfer files.
It does not satisfy my needs, as i cannot save files directly to the tablet's SD card when downloading something, for example.
Can you people see the tablet's SD card as another DISK drive in your pc? With formatting options, sd card properties and stuff that you can do with a flash drive or an external hdd? This is my question, but i believe this is not possible.

I have no problems it must be your USB drivers as mine sees it as a Device
I open mine up from my computer then open the SD card and transfer all my Movies and Pictures direct to the SD card I can open up files on Device or Card
Hi again, i've attached some print screens with the issue i'm trying to explain. The main thing that bothers me is the clearly slower speed for transferring files using windows explorer. With total commander it goes almost double the speed rate. Plus, why should i download a file to my pc instead of downloading it directly to g pad's sd card? Waste of time in my opinion.
But recently i did read somewhere that jelly bean does NOT support usb mass storage, so i guess that answers my question.
Is there a way to enable mass storage mode on the G3 ? even only for the sd card. Thanks!
Enable the USB Debugging in Developer Options?!
You're posting in the wrong section. This should be in the Q&A.
Anyway, what do you mean by "even only for the sd card"? You can enable your so called "mass storage mode" by connecting your phone using an micro usb cable provided with your phone to your computer and selecting Media device (MTP) mode.
This shows up your internal storage and internal sd card (if you have any) on your computer. If you only want to show your SD card you have to pull out your SD card and connect it separately somehow to your computer.
Good luck and next time post this in the corresponding sub-forum please.
lols mtp mode is different from what he's asking , mass storage mode.
google disabled this starting from kitkat.
@TS none of the current apps in play store that enables mass storage doesn't work with G3.
I cant even get my phone to show up on my pc anymore -_-
