I've been running V4A since I first unlocked my 10, and it works fairly well, but not as well as when I have the Nexus 6 and Note5. Although you can flash the standard V4A in TWRP and have it work, you need to a modified version that patches the audio config files in order to not lose BoomSound or Audio Profiles. You can find the flashable ZIP that patches here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/htc-10-audio-thread-t3358064 (v2.1)
My primary reason for needing it is to boost the volume output to my car through Android Auto, which is Bluetooth powered. Play Music is so low when used this way, that I need to keep my radio near 30 (45 max) in order to get decent sound. Same car (2015 Sonata w/ Infinity radio) and the Note5 would achieve the same quality closer to 15/45.
The 2.1 zip I mentioned above seems to break all system sounds when applying a ROM update, but not every update. When it happens, I need to dirty flash back to the latest Viper full ROM, then take the OTA again, then flash V4A and hope it doesn't break. I'd prefer some other options to raise Bluetooth volume levels if anyone can recommend an alternative.

Have you tried any other mods like AcoustiX_Audio_ZeroInfinity ?
I feel like that increases Bluetooth output
Question for you -- I remember you from YEARS ago (been here a long time -- just haven't contributed as you have) ---
I'm on AT&T and am currently using IceROM .... and specific reasons you use Viper? PM is ok if you'd rather

I have not. Is there a version that maintains BoomSound function? That's why I've previously stuck with the thread I linked above. A vanilla V4A install works, at the expense of BoomSound, and I'm trying to avoid losing it.

Used to run Viper because it was a godsend on the Nexus 6 and its horrible audio setup. On the 10, I'm using it for Bluetooth volume more than anything else. The slight boost to speakers is nice with the Extra Loud toggle, but I can go without it.
Do you have a link to the specific mod you're talking about? I'll try flashing it later tonight to see how it works.

Gotcha!
For me, I like maximum customization options, and for me Viper has offered that since I had the One M7 a few years back. When I made the decision to unlock my 10, I went straight to ViperROM, so my experience for this device is currently limited to a week on stock, and then Viper for custom.
But I have no doubt that each ROM currently available has pros and cons, Viper included, and it's up to everyone to give them a shot and use what works best for them.
I created this to enable audio from the front speaker.

CREDITS
@VinciusG Nexus 4 mod
@sshafranko Original mod
Added new version 1.1 with support for devices with mixer_paths.xml in System/etc (untested).
Please report if it is working on Nougat and below.
hello, i use lineage os 15.1 with stock lineage kernel and i don't know if i have "mixer_path.xml in system/etc"
wich version should i use? and (in case of fail or dislike) how can i reverse it?
thanks in advance for your comments.
-edit
installed the release version 1.0, this mod work really great! thanks op for your work!, although, the volume of the "front speaker" is low to compare with the back speaker, like 40% maybe 50% less.
Use v1.1 as it supports both directories. System/etc was used in older android versione so i added support in case anyone needs it, even if it is untested as i use lineage 15.1 now.
New v1.2 update released with small fixes on names.
Module has also been added to magisk repo so you can download it within magisk app.
Feedback from roms below oreo would be appreciated. Thanks

Increasing the volume should be possible but it might damage the device. I'll test higher volumes and in case update the module.

Work on Android 7.1.2 (PureNexus ROM) but the difference in volume between the two speakers is remarkable.

Thank you for feedback.
Tried it out on my LG V20, running LineageOS 15.1.
Sounds damn nice, haven't maxed out the volume just yet, but both treble and bass were crystal clear up to volume step nine out of fifteen.
No crackling, popping or snapping, no ViPER or other audio mods installed.

Just to let you know, doesn't work with k6 note, lineageos 15.1 and viper. But I assume, k6 is generally incompatible

Works on my nex4 but volume is too low, and I don't know what the syatem uses in alsamixer to increase the earpiece volume up. Back speaker is fine as normal. So the stereo effect don't work. I am using marshmallow krexus build with quanta v 20.

I don't know this app and i don't know if it works with magisk. As i wrote before, increasing the volume too much could damage the phone and i didn't test a higher volume yet.
Thanks for making this module available for our good old Nexus 4.
I haven't used the N4 in a little while, there was a flashable zip created here at xda in the apps section. Is this using the same levels as that one? Feels like the volume can be bumped just a little bit higher or perhaps it is just my memory playing tricks.
Anyway, working fine using LOS15.1
Yes it uses the dame levels as the already existing mod
Module has been updated to v1.3 and module template has been updated to latest version 17000.
Works good on mine running Android Pie. Volume is pretty low but i imagine the speaker might not be more powerful than that.
I play a lot of PUBG mobile. So please suggest me some ROMs that have good performance and battery life and don't have issues with touch or audio via the jack. Camera and customisation features don't have high priority
just wanted to know the same.. I was on 9.2.13 for a couple of weeks and upgraded to masik 2.2 miui 10 based... Let me tell u that miui 9.2.13 was like a god of battery backup and pubg ....and now this masik has **** backup but its smooth
I would recommend Bootleggers ROM - a personal favorite. I haven't tried all the ROMs but this ROm has just enough customizations and smoothness to make it the best for me.
I love Pixel Experience. Almost stable, no need to install gapps and mi a1 camera preinstalled ?

So far, ive been tried a bunch of custom rom on whyred like RR, AOSIP, AEX, PIXEL with custom or stock kernel, and all of them consume more battery than MIUI when playing PUBG
If you want long lasting battery when play PUBG without pluging charger to the phone when play, just stick with MIUI, it can hold up to 6hr playing PUBG compared to 5hr when using custom ROM. Ive tested this using 100% mobile data, not wifi. Maybe more SOT given up to 1hr when using WiFi
I think MIUI kernel is the point why the battery is so good on it but lack of good performance when gaming compared to custom. Maybe thats the reason.
Till now, i still testing on different custom rom and kernel to find some setting that close to MIUI battery backup.
So i suggest just stick with MIUI if you want more long lasting battery when play PUBG.
If you dont want audio or touch issues, use MIUI 9.5.17 instead the other. No ARB, loud audio when play PUBG, good battery backup too.
Hope you understand what im saying, i dont speak english very well.

Mi A1 camera is ready to use and fully functional. I have not made a comparison but surely gcam is better for other reasons and no, you need to install magisk yourself.
i was about to ask the same question too.
tried a lots of custom rom/kernel xcept miui based , all are same touch issue when playing pubg. sometimes the touch going crazy .

I' currently on Android 9 based Msm xtended so features like scrolling screenshot and internal audio (for screen recording) woud be huge plus as well.

The only bug the current version have for me is the dark theme resets back to normal on reboot, but that's nothing major and probably will be fixed on the next update
It does have scrolling screen shots
I didn't test the internal audio recording so i can't say
The default kernel is good, but i use mad kernel with it , and its great, and the dev has no issue with people using that kernel specifically
The one thing i have to mention that it comes with gapps already installed , but its minimal, for me its good this way...and magisk latest works fine with it and playstore certified, and it supports encryption
I do recommend a complete clean flash for the 1st install to avoid any issues

Hi all, I'm coming from a Pixel phone. This is my first Xiaomi phone with MIUI on it. I just got the phone today and I've been playing around with it. So far the MIUI experience is not too bad. It's not too heavy handed and feels relatively stock. And it comes with some useful apps like a decent clock, weather app, voice recorder etc. so it seems alright and I don't mind it much.
What's your opinion of it? Do you like stock MIUI or do you prefer an AOSP based ROM? And also I like to take a lot of pictures with my phone. So is the camera better on the stock MIUI software or is the camera just as good or even better on an AOSP ROM?
In my opinion, if you like MIUI, you should go with a custom MIUI based ROM like xiaomi.eu or else. But you can still try others ROMs that you may like.
The other custom ROMs don't have stock camera (for the moment), but Gcam is available in many versions, many users thinks it is better than stock camera app, if you are coming from a pixel you might be more familiar with that (and other pixel like ROMs).
Always here if you need more information !
This is just my opinion but I'd rather stick pins in my arms than use Miui. There are so many ROMS for this device and they are all pretty stable and with Gcam they are amazing. In my personal opinion GCam is better than the stock cam and takes better photos especially when you want to zoom in.
My personal favorite ROMS based on stability and features are ArrowOS, crDroid and Syberia. I'm just not a fan of Miui and their annoying prompts when you try to do anything like change permissions for an app and their plethora of bugs. It reminds me of EMUI but worse.
You have a week until you can unlock your bootloader, so try MIUI for a week and decide for yourself. I would recommend to debloat Miui first. I am counting final hours, before which I can unlock..
Can't stand MIUI for more than a week

So true those 10 seconds of waiting for many changes become incredibly annoying vrey fast.
Arrow OS is really fast booting and incredibly smooth interface, to bad in the customisation department is a little lacking

the same here for me....in eu miui fast and stable for games...any good ather rom ?
My advice - use MIUI EU stable ROM first and see if it suits you - if not, then explore AOSP ROMS
AOSP always, but it's nice to try MIUI first! It's improving. Specially when in some month it will be updated to MIUI 13, and our F3 will be one of the firsts MIUI's devices to do it. So I would do what people said, but I'm completing it:
- Ask (yes, you have to ask first) to unlock your bootloader. You'll have to wait for a week before unlocking it.
- Try MIUI relaxed for a week. Take some screenshots about battery... and try to feel how smooth and performant can be
- (7 days later asking unlocking bootloader) Unlock bootloader. It will erase everything. Take advantage of it to change to some AOSP Rom, like AICP, ProtonAOSP, ArrowOS (never tryied), or whatever. You have dozens.
- Compare and decide some days later. You can always come to stock. And in the while, in some months you will have MIUI 13, so yeap
Depends on your taste! If you like MIUI over Vanilla Android, you can flash Xiaomi.eu Custom ROM for the best MIUI experience.
I dislike MIUI, but I use Xiaomi.eu Custom ROM, because the Vanilla Android ROMs I've tried don't have Dolby Atmos (or a good version implemented) and lackluster Camera-App.

Yup, also Beta! Also, when trying out AOSP ROMs I noticed the vibration felt really cheap, and I think Xiaomi has done vibration motor calibration on MIUI, to make the vibration motor feel as good as it does. If you set a Custom Vibration Time in Gboard (MIUI & AOSP), it also feels weird and cheap.

Yup, but i think the Overscroll effect only happens in the Settings unfortunately. I tried Moto Dolby and didn't like it at all, it didn't sound anywhere near Xiaomi's Dolby Atmos?
My experience so far is:
* Yes, MIUI is very nice and the new UI (e.g. control center) is very nice as well
* MIUI has a lot of bloatware but you can remove them all
* Battery life is fine as well (getting 6h ~ 6h30 of SoT without gaming)
* The Xiaomi.EU ROM is as good as the stock one but with less bloatware and some nice additional features, still 100% compatible (so both camera and Dolby Atmos speakers quality are preserved)
ArrowOS is very nice and smooth but not really much faster to stock anyway. Camera quality is worse, speakers quality is way worse due to the lack of Dolby Atmos support. There are a few bugs here and there and globally you aren't getting the stability guarantees of the stock ROM as with all custom ROMs.
So, finally:
* If you want maximum stability to avoid all problems, or if you are fine with MIUI's UI, stick with the stock ROM
* If you want good stability and 100% compatibility, go for the Xiaomi.EU ROM
* If you want stock-like experience, ArrowOS or crDroid are both very good (although I've had problems with crDroid, but it's my personal experience)

Also small tip with Dolby Atmos: You can enable Video Toolbox in your favourite Music app (Spotify, YouTube Music, whatever) and customise the sound of the Dolby Atmos Video-Preset. This way you can adjust the surround sound of your music. ^^
