I was hoping to use my Tab S 8.4 with One Note. However, the lag is terrible on typing! It doesn't matter if I use the Samsung keyboard or SwiftKey. They are both terrible, and it makes the program unusable. I get no lag in the app using my Nexus 5. Anyone see the same thing?

Just tried it on my 8.4 and there is quite a bit of lag when typing. Maybe it's not optimised for the Exynos processor?

On my 10.5 I am getting some slight lag but by no means does it make the app unusable for me. This is using the stock keyboard. Of course OneNote is pretty much indexing everything as you type it so it will lag more than just typing in a Web forum or word processor.
One thing I have done is to disable DVFS using Wanam Xposed. This is something Samsung implements which throttles your CPU to save battery life. IMHO it is a dumb idea and causes problems so I turn it off. I've found this improves on keyboard lag system wide so I may be getting better results in OneNote than you are.
Swiftkey is a lagfest for me on any device so can't comment on that.
One other thought. If OneNote is optimized for lower resolution screens that may also be having an effect on how it performs on the Tab S. Just making guesses at this point.
Anyway, so on the 10.5 not perfect but quite usable.
Works perfectly on my ASUS Transformer Infinity TF701. Another example of an app not jiving with the Exynos Processor. Abysmal.......

Lol, you really need a new word
You guys keep blaming Exynos for everything. 5420 has been out on the N3, N10.1-14, Pros, and even Chromebook since last fall. If anything, I'd say a lot of the general performance issues being lamented have to do with the video drivers being used with the introduction of AMOLED. It's the only thing different h/w wise from the aforementioned devices.
Everyone not happy with their Galaxy tab s, just return them... Then you
Won't have any lag...

Here's my quick example video. You can see it really bad at the end. There is about a 2-3 second lag from me typing to it appearing on the screen. After a few sentences, the lag makes typing impossible. I need to be able to type quickly for taking notes at work.
Can one of you who is reporting no lag type a few sentences quickly, and post the video? I want to find out if I have a defective device.

Are you rooted? Can you disable DVFS? I noticed that with DVFS enabled typing would bog down the more I typed. The Tab was throttling due to heating and with DVFS disabled this never happens. This isn't so much a hardware thing as a Touchwiz thing. It may be that typing makes it engage faster with the amoled screen than with other Touchwiz devices. My Note 3 is quite smooth. Have you tried an alternate launcher like Nova?
Or it could be you have a defective tab. Sadly there seems to have been a bad run. People who have had theirs replaced have been much more satisfied. I can't video actually typing sentences but will just try it and see what I think.
** UPDATE: Ok, just typed an entire paragraph in OneNote on my 10.5. Maybe a microsecond laggier than typing here but then again OneNote is indexing and this is not. Still, completely usable and no delays as you are experiencing.

Have you considered using THUMB KEYBOARD from the play store? It is free and a very fast, well conceived keyboard, especially for use with tablets and the autocorrect is second to none. Give that a try too.

Yes, perhaps a nanosecond but nothing like the 3 seconds the OP is experiencing. Imminently useable. I can see how in his use case there is a serious problem. There can be 100 reasons for that nanosecond lag other than the Exynos processor somehow being inadequate.

It's not that the exynos is inadequate, it's that the OneNote app 'might' not be optimised properly for the exynos processor, which seems to be the case here. Obviously the exynos processor can handle an app like OneNote.

For the OP he clearly has a serious problem. As configured with my 10.5 this is a non issue. If the suggestions I made are not of help to the OP I suggest he consider replacing his tablet with a newer production run model. 3 second input lag is an aberration and not acceptable.
P.S. Lack of OneNote optimization with Exynos may exist but since my experience is so superior to his it leads me to believe the issue is elsewhere. YMMV.

Hmm OK. Did you reboot after disabling? Unless you are having some weird conflict with another app you are using or something about your setup you shouldn't be getting the lag you are.
This is not a well-loved app and apparently a recent version update pissed a lot of people off. I use S Note since Samsung released a Windows version because most of my "notes" are mobile>desktop not the other way around.

Not about being a fan boy, just tired of reading the same thing in every thread. This tablet should have ZERO lag, it is a beast. The screen should NOT be yellowed/distorted at all or be anything except phenomenal. If it's not, then return it for a different one or a replacement.
Like a few have said, there was obviously a bad batch because a few are having issues which I personally wouldn't be satisfied with, BUT others are not experiencing them in the slightest.
If you would like video proof I can make a video when I get off, but I literally have ZERO lag anywhere in this tablet and the screen color is amazing(obviously you'd have to view the video on something other than your tab s for true color reference).
My bottom line is you shouldn't have to pay $600 for something and worry with these defects. There shouldn't even be threads created about it. Return or exchange it. /thread.
i curently have the s6 edge. i got it for 300eurs. should i sell it for 300eurs and get the oneplus 3 or stick with it. what are the downsides (i love custom rom's and that sort of things)
it depends what you want out of your phone. Oneplus is more powerful and has one of best dev support. I personally dont like the touchwiz and prefer stock android. if you a simple phone for day to day needs and you're not going to tinker around much you should probably hang on to s6 edge and if not then oneplus 3 is definitely the way to go.

Camera is great for day light pictures. I've had iPhone 6 and moto x play before this. Auto mode is great but manual mode makes this camera amazing if you know how to use the manual mode. Low light performance is not as good top end phones but at this price point, it's the best camera phone available.

I sold S7, bought OP3, and never looked back, you are talking about S6 edge? WOW.
OP3 is better because:
- Stock Android UI if you Don't love TW.
- Far more smooth, least lag, there is no Sammy device which don't lag or miss frame rates.
- Prettier, better feel in hand, slimmer, sleeker.
- Larger Screen
- Easy to root/TWRP and come back to stock, Sammy is pain lately.
- CM13/14 officially which Sammy lacks.
- Charges phone three times faster than any sammy phone.
- Edge screen is more fragile, loss of real state, picture distorted on the edges, accidental screen touches are must.
Plenty of more reasons, but i am having headache right now, dont wanna use brain.

I'd pick a 1+3 anyday over a Samsung device but you seem like a Samsung kinda guy, so maybe you already have the right phone
I had an S6. between the standby battery drain and horrible memory management (apps would freeze and force close), I went right to the nexus 5x and now to OP3. Literally everything is faster in every way. Samsung has good hardware but the software totally sucks. Picture quality and screen quality is good I'll admit, but not enough to overcome apps freezing and closing and horrible battery life.
Go with OP3 you won't be dissapointed, or wait for the new Pixel line to be launched tomorrow and either get that or pick up a cheaper 5x or 6p. Their low light picture taking is top notch (better than S6 and OP3 - speak from experience as I've used them all).
Ive actually sold my s6 for 400$ and bought op3. And i dont regret anything. Only wifi is not as good as it was on the s6 but thats all.

A power user friend of mine had the S6e and nearly went back to iphone due to the battery life. He managed to get an S7e for a good price and hasn't looked back.
I have an Galaxy tab S2, (which probably has the same generation OLED to your S6e,) and I think the display is worse on the OP3. For me, the colours look all wrong and when you put on sRGB in developer options, the whites are too yellow. In your position, I'd find a physical OP3 and compare it to your S6e before taking the plunge.
Apart from the display, (and possibly lack of SD card,) I cant fault the OP3 from when I've seen it. For speed and smoothness, it was even in the same league as the Nexus 5 running kit kat. (but not quite )

I gave the Note 7 a chance after having my last samsung be Note 4, hated it... I was so glad when they announced the recall. I was coming from the 6P and my 6P was faster and smoother than the N7 by a long shot. I did buy the LG G6 just to see how LG felt and I really liked the way it felt in my hands and overall smoothness of it right away... Not sure how they hold up over time like my Pixel has. Wasnt a fan of the power button being on the back tho of the G6. I'm sure I would get use to it but just was awkward for the couple days I used it.
I had the lg g2 and g3, would probably have gone g6 if the pixel XL I got from Verizon had not been unlockable, (came with 7.1). The only drawback to me is I keep trying to use the fingerprint sensor like I did the power button on my lg's, since they are in the same place.

Pixel/XL is riddled with game breaking bugs. And Google is doing nothing to fix it - every new update only introduces new bugs. I'm definitely switching. To what, I don't know.

The lack of wireless charging in the Pixel is awful. That would have been so easy to implement.
I can see folks not liking the lack of wireless charging, but personally I hated it. It has probably improved, but mine was super finnicky about device placement and would often start charging, only to stop five mins later.

I'm trying the G6 as well, and I'm really close to taking it back bacause if the power button. Not a huge deal to wake the device but a real pain in the ass to pit it to sleep. Granted there is double tap to sleep but only works reliably on the stock launcher which ive given up on.
only thing i like more is the less bezels of the s8 and the waterproofing. Dont need the raw processing speed and the pixel will still be faster in every day tasks.
If anything ill wait for the S9 or the next pixel.

They didn't have to make the back part aluminum and there is a part that is glass, so it is not impossible.

The lack of wireless charging in the Pixel is awful. That would have been so easy to implement.

Maybe if they made the entire back of glass and put the receiver under the glass....who else did that for the last few years? oh yeah SAMSUNG, so I guess you should get the s8 I don't care for wireless charging, used it a few times on the n6 and that was it. It was more of a "cool" factor than anything. Even if the pixel had it, I would not use it....
I won't be getting the s8, I haven't bought a samsung device since the s3 (when they started rolling out knox, i switched to my nexus 5).
Love the spen so I'd consider note 8 but locked bootloader is totally unacceptable in my book. Plus I've been absolutely spoiled by speed and fluidity of pixel so even without bl issue the decision would be tough but spen and unlocked bl would likely be enough.
Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Imo performance is a bit low compare to the price

I feel bummed just because Samsung has decided to use Snapdragon 820 instead of Snapdragon 835. I was at least expecting Sanpdragon 821 (MSM8996 Pro-AC).

Can you elaborate?
What tab S4? It doesn't exist.
6000 mah is not a limited battery you just gotta be smart enough to know when Power saver works for you. Lasts me 7-9 hours on full brightness playing a HDR video and I binge watch with 5 min breaks each hour so yeah. Software, well unless you're an artist I don't get what software you need I mean ipad has similar software and an artist or architect even know which software to use because they're working in industry so.
Why not get the Galaxy book 12 then? Well the tab has everything for laptop use except maybe a full version of AutoCAD and Photoshop but Android version is sufficient. Also unless you're a gamer... There is really nothing the tab can't do and with Android coding and development of apps and such can be done straight from it! Unless you're just a rich fat kid who just enjoys daddy's ?.
Achieve what? Well it isn't offering anything less than an ipad and everything is there to do which can be done on a computer as in productivity so also the AMOLED display means zero eye strain or redding. Plus perfect blacks. If you want to take the easy route and not learn Android properly for industrial use then that's your problem!
HDR OLED display. The best stylus. GREAT for content consumption and productivity. Great for even testing apps unless you're developing windows apps in which case you shouldn't even be trying it from Android in the first place! Plus with cloud gaming, there is nothing left.
Honestly as a developer and coder and hacker I don't see why I need to use a computer when I got this, in fact I never buy tablets and GALAXY BOOK 12 is kinda useless... Also I've been using my computer only once a few weeks so yeah.
See attachments. I got anti glare screen protector. Fintie spen holding case. A basesus flexible neck tablet holder. A Logitech k380 keyboard. What else could I want for. Oh, I also write books and lemme tell you it's so much better when it doesn't hang or crash and I end up losing my work. Not happened even once with the tab!
I bet English isn't your native or even bilingual language or you might just have a low IQ, in any case you'll have a heard time understanding please do comment so others have a laugh at you. Also I got a 205 IQ, so kid... Step aside... The Mensan is coming through... And he's way, way younger than you.

I have a Sony Z4 tablet which is an 810 and I swear it feels faster in everyday use.
And I think it's 100% Samsung's software.

I don't have any lags as such. You've got to describe faster as I don't see how an 810 SOC with heating issue doesn't throttle performance.
It's on specs the best Android tablet you can get... And it performs as such. I have had no major issues with it.
Everyday use it seems just fine to me. And my everyday use is pretty hardcore. Developer level stuff
Not that I have to describe anything for you. If someone says "this thing is slow", don't come into the thread and say "you're wrong". If you don't have this problem, why are you even in the thread?
Things that are demonstrably slower.
The time from when I press the power button to when the screen comes up.
Responsiveness when I swipe the screen to enter the pin
Time it takes for the app drawer to open after pressing the app button on the home screen.
Time it takes to launch an app.

I don't have any lag with this tablet. I rooted it the first day I received it which removes encryption... Maybe the users that are having lag are still encrypted.. Over all I'm happy with it. The screen on it is the best I've seen on any tablet imo.

Oh c'mon you're a perfectionist. So am I but I am practical as well. I'm not gotta get into every Android device needs a grace period after a restart.
I agree the fingerprint is a bit slow but I just haven't gotten around to re calibration.
I'm a pretty hardcore user and all things considered in doesn't disappoint.
You're one of those deeper, faster, harder guys.
Well with tech whatever works for you. In phones I always preferred LG. But I settled for OnePlus 5 instead of V30.

there ain't faster.
that's why your question is painful.
I'll be back with more info
some details
I have an ipad Pro 2017 and the S3.
it's not even fair the comparison-
the games I play in both tablets-
- Into the Dead 2
- Dear Hunter 2018
correction: I play on the ipad pro only. The S3 is painful to play so I stopped.
also, everything is slow.
it's like the S3 uses a harddisK instead of SSD.

iPad Pro 2017 might not be that much faster as s3 tab, the difference could be that those games are better optimize for iOS. On any event, the conversation started regarding faster than s3 tab ANDROID device, not over all. But thank you for your input.
Hey there
If anyone has any questions about the phone, feel free to ask me. I was playing with it for roughly half an hour in the Razer AFK area and compared it side by side to my S8+.
afk area lol I love razers humor.
How was the screen color and brightness wise?
How were the speakers compared to the S8?
In hand feel?
Did it feel premium? Heavy?
Are you going to get one?
How was the software from what you got to see?
Overall impressions?
Thanks appreciate you taking the time to tell us
Why don't they have Verizon compatibility, or is there any plans to get it?
1. Verizon US compatibility & pricing
2. Root/bootloader unlock?
3. Thanks!

Aside from the usual bootloader unlock stuff,
would love to know if it supports apt-x bluetooth codec. Will be an insta buy for me if so.
How does it seem to keep it in your hands?
Need for some ugly cover? The high frame rate is cool like it sound? I've so much hype for this phone. I'm not a big smartphone gamer but those stats are fantastic. Is like have the master race phone.

One member of staff had a thin, black case on it and honestly it felt very useless  I like the phone much better without any case, especially when there is no back glass to break.
It is super cool, smooth and responsive. I was going crazy when i saw it haha! It is seriously very cool. Although, most of the third party apps were locked to 60hz I could see that. Only the system apps and the dolby atmos app (I think) were in full 120hz.

No clue about that as some features on the demo phones were disabled. I think this is part or Oreo? So possibly with the Oreo update in Q1 2018. Again, not sure about that.

Haha, I know right.
Screen colours were really good, although still not on OLED levels (still great lcd panel though). Brightness is the only thing that disappointed me about the screen, when I set the Razer phone to full brightness, it was the same brightness as when you set the S8+ to 30-40% brightness
Speakers are just nuts. No phone has speakers like that. Even though I could not hear it properly because there was a lot of people, screaming and music around, I could feel how the whole phone was vibrating only from the speakers. It is absolutely nuts, very loud, highs were very noticeable in the dolby atmos demo app and the bass is very good for phone speakers as well. They killed it in this regard lol.
I'm not a fan of the square-ish designs but it I liked this one, it feels very premium indeed. I have medium sized hands, it felt kinda big.
I really do want to get one, but I'm not sure yet. Price is very competitive, but I'm just so used to all the Samsung services (Samsung Pay, Health, Cloud, etc.) + I have a Gear S3 so I would lose a ton of features lol.
Software was smooth, imagine playing with the Pixel 2 but the screen is 120Hz (it's absolutely crazy smooth, I can't even believe it). I tried to lag it as much as I could but I just couldn't, there was not a single lag/stutter.
It's a great phone for sure and I was really hyped when I had it in my hands, but I'm not sure how I feel about the screen brightness and lack of any water-resistance rating. The camera performance was also very average - low light was bad, focusing was alright, but nowhere near the S8 focusing speed and details/closeups came up really good.

Since there was only default apps and games, there were no notifications so I can't tell. I would say it doesn't have one, unless it's hidden in the speaker mesh

Same. I heard months ago, like in this article from Android Authority that AptX HD (as well as Hi-Res Bluetooth codecs like LDAC) come enabled with Android O via a Bluetooth codec menu.

How was the camera? I know they said they'd send some camera updates like 120Hz video capture, slow-motion capture, and portrait mode via OTA updates in the coming months as TechRadar stated.
However, I'd like to know about the camera quality performance?
I've seen some samples, but I'd like to know your first-hand experience.
