/e/ for mi (ROM based on LineageOS + microg) - Xiaomi Mi 8 SE Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all,
I've asked the /e/ foundation to consider supporting the Mi8 SE device. Would be great to finally have an alternative - non bloated - rom which is supported long term, instead of all those rom's which come and go (which is OK as well of course). If you like that idea as well, just read up on the /e/ foundation if you don't know it yet and give a reply on the forum here: "community e foundation/t/xiaomi-mi8-se-sirius" (Sorry can't post any url's yet: just replace the spaces with a dot. Maybe someone else can post a clickable url).
Cheers!

How to become Maintainer for Lineage OS?

Hello,
I want to become maintainer for Lineage OS for specific device (I will buy the device to maintain).
Could someone plz explain me the process of becoming the maintainer and pre-requisites for it?
I had a look at teamoctos/join-our-team/ but it will be helpful if someone explains all those steps in it.

Thanks
I'm not sure about this but however:
First of all you will have to build device tree for that device (I guess that device isn't supported at the moment, if is than you can contribute to that repo on github via pull requests and wait for them to approve change) and that device tree works without lethal bugs. Also you'll need kernel that won't make you much troubles because manufacturer probably published sources (they had to). And when you make it work than you can try to conntact them about joining team, if they accept new devs, because I read somwhere about how to make CM support device officialy they mention only they support devices they own, they not mention anything about joining team if I remember well. It's best that you conntact them and ask I'm sure there is way for that.

Unless a specific thread states otherwise (which will provide you with the individual or location to do so), the XDA Forums isn't where you request this.
Regarding the Official LineageOS, though, the XDA Forums isn't where you request this either, here's the only location (at this time) to where you can find what you're looking for.
1) Go to the following link:
http://wiki.lineageos.org/faq.html
2) Scroll down to the following question (without quotes):
"My device is not officially supported, but I’d really like to give LineageOS a try. Can you support my device?"
3) It is there that you'll find the information you're looking for as well as the E-Mail address to where you can send them the information.
Good Luck!

LineageOS for the MotoG5s??

Hi, I was silly and didn't check the device compatibilities of LineageOS before buying a new phone. I bought the Motorola Moto g5s.
I now see that this is not on Lineage's list of compatible devices. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to install Lineage on my phone and if you have any links? Or if you know whether this is possible or not for me? (I'm not very tech so would need a tutorial to follow like the ones on the Lineage website).
Also, if anyone could tell me if an OS for the motog5s plus would be compatible with a motog5s?
Thank you so much
You can use the search bar to seek on this forum, i'm sure you'll find some usefull stuff for your device.
By the way, ther are one unnoficial build of LineageOS

System choices for Nokia 6.1; if any

Hi there,
I read the forum rules, I am still not entirely sure if this post belongs here, sorry about that if not.
I own a Nokia 6.1; it is an android one device, I am looking to remove android from it.
I looked at the websites from /e/, ubuntu touch, sailfish; none of these has official support for this phone,
so I would attempt to do it by myself, and my techinal knowlege about phones is zero, hence the hesitation.
I want to ask if anyone here has managed to ditch android from this model, either /e/, ubuntu touch, sailfish,
graphene, lineage would be fine by me.
Cheers.
There is a halium port for this device that uses a generic halium system image. It works pretty well, check it out.

Also, there is an Official LineageOS port for this device.
There is also an \e\ GSI. I haven't tried it, so I don't know how it is.

Ubuntu ! yay
I did not set my notifications and I just read your reply,
I have been interested in ubuntu touch for a while, I will check that out,
Thank man

Which version of Android (GSI) can I run on a device with VNDK 27.0?

My plan is to flash a GSI image (LineageOS) for android 9. Specifically the following
- https://github.com/LineageOS/android/tree/lineage-16.0
- https://github.com/AndyCGYan/lineage_build_unified/tree/lineage-16.0
Is there a chance of getting this to run on my device? Please see the attached file for the output of the Treble Info app.
I cannot find any information about the impact of VNDK version 27.0 so any help is much appreciated.
Device info:
- Processor: Rockchip 3399

I have the same issue, only thing I could find out, some features not gonna work, (who know what), if you install a newer vndk you wont be able to return to an older one. Be honest, Project Treble is made for seamlessly update phones, but it is a mess, versions, vndks, legacy phones, A-B-A/B images, etc. it doesnt do what it meant to do.
The XDA forum was a good place to ask questions like this, it was, still remember to get answer about my 10 years old phone, however things really changed over the years. Members change their phones on montly basis, so dont expect any professional answer.

[Request] Posting template for replies

Is there any way to add the ability for the developers (topic starters) to create a template for every post for members to respond with on their topics?
For instance, when members post to the topic 90% of the time it is a "this does not work", "this is broken", "I didn't read the install instructions but I still want to complain".
It would be incredibly helpful to everyone (to the members that constantly read that but want to still help anyway, ie. me and especially the actual developer for the ROM).
I've seen some devs post in the OP a "template" that members need to copy and paste into their post for a bug report. It's followed maybe 20% of the time. But many don't read the OP so it's still kinda useless there.
Something like github, most gits have a template when posting a bug report. Or something like this here:
What is your--
LineageOS version:
LineageOS Download url:
Gapps version:
Did you--
follow all OP instructions:
wipe:
restore with titanium backup:
reboot after having the issue:
Are you using--
a task killer:
a non-stock kernel:
other modifications:
Provide any additional information (adb log/observations/frequency of problem/last version it worked on/etc) as needed:

I shamelessly copied that from the LOS topic here and added a few extras. But that template there (a template that any topic starter could make specific for their ROM) would be fantastic if it could be a template for every reply, basically forcing every poster to fill it in if they have a bug report. I know if I was developing ROMs that would make me muuuch happier to read replies.
Because as it is now, it's pretty depressing I would think for them (the devs) to constantly not see logs or any info other than "this don't work" and that's it (and guessing if they even followed 20% of the instructions). That is no help whatsoever. It would even help other members with the same problem, they could say to themselves "oh I'm using the same custom kernel and didn't wipe...hmm" then maybe they would be able to solve it without the dev wasting time looking into it when it's not even the ROM's bug (maybe it's the custom kernel, etc.).
Summary: a reply template the topic starters could make for their ROMs would go a long way for everyone involved on here.
