Do you have it set to turn off???
No it's in show always. But isn't it supposed to turn off automatically via the proximity sensor? Other phones obey this principle.

yes,
my Note 10 + does, when i do use it.
Nowadays, i use Always on Display , with a 3rd party app, aodNotify, to indicate if i have notifications etc.
When i use Always on Display and i put phone, in a flip cover eg. if i go running/shops it turns off.
No issues.
Turns on when i open flip cover or use it normally, without flip cover
I found that, even in a very dark place /room it turns off.
I suggest try this method by covering proximity sensor and see if it turns off.?
Further,
why it does not turn off in pants, maybe that's there a small amount of light coming into/through material or pocket.?
I you tried above and still have issues..?
try a factory reset and check if it fixes the Aod issue ?
Good luck
Post note,
Also test your proximity sensor.
eg Check, Google play, for an app, that can test proximity sensor etc
Otherwise check your Samsung Members app installed on phone.
Open Samsung Members app,
Check bottom menu
eg Explore /Get Help /My page.
Tap... Get Help.. /Automatic check... tap
It should list if Sensors is "working normally"
I tried covering the proximity sensor with my hand and it still doesn't shut off.
Thanks for the tip
I remember to have read that the proximity sensor only is activated during phone calls when using the stock phone call app.
If that is indeed true, AOD will remain on in you pocket...

I suggest further.... check....
See my post note above. Check if Proximity Sensor is working or faulty.Get app (Play Store) or use Samsung members app. to test sensor, if working.
If sensors working then it has to be AOD app.
If working your AOD might be a a bit buggy.?
I had an issue with AOD(, on my old Note 8.)
Factory reset done and AOD was working....!
Also be aware,
that you has not disabled any app with
a Package Disabler and have a knock on effect!

Thanks. So it works during calls, whatsapp calls and also with third party AODs.
Guess it's software problem.
Need to wait for the stable one

Can't comment on that.
But i know /experience for a fact
if i use my flip cover, to carry my phone around, it switches off.!
Every time..!
As soon as I flip open flip cover... i can see that the Aod is off.
It takes a few milli seconds /lag to wake up.
So it has to use proximity sensor.?
What else?
I have also found with my experience /use of Aod in past experiences,
if Aod has only glimmer of light it wont turn off.

Update,
just tested my Aod on, with flipcover.as,
I stated in above post, that i don't use Aod standalone.
I now use it with aodNotify app for notifications.
Anyway switched aodNotify off and manually switched aod on.
Put phone in flipcover and it does not switch off...! .
I will test it again for longer period if i have time.
I have used aod with flipcover on my Note 9 and sometimes when i carry phone, with Note 10.
So it seems to me Samsung has changed this behavior ..?
I have also read in past.. could be Sammobile, not sure, that reason aod swiches off , was to save battery power.
Anyway it now seems your aod is behaving correct.?
Good luck.
Well the whole point is to save battery when the phone is in your pocket by switching off the aod. This is more in line with other smartphone companies. I use Huawei and it switches off when I put my finger over the proximity sensor and so does it when I put it in my pocket.
Weird Samsung software.
Totally agree. There's been people complaining in the Samsung forums for months about this. This is the only truly annoying issue I've found with the Note 10+. I was getting a lot of "pocket dials" until they at least fixed the accidental touch setting so it mostly works but it still drives me crazy the device comes on in my pocket. I think the S10 had a similar issue so I'm hoping this isn't a permanent design aspect by Samsung.
Until samsung fixes it, only option we have is to set AOD to tap only.
No Samsung phone I have used has ever had the AOD turn off when placed in my pocket or ever except when on a call. I've had the Note 9, multiple S10s of various types and the Note 10+.

My Note 8 did. I think it's a victim of trying to minimize the bevel size to as little as possible in the later models.
Yeah and battery life is significantly worse than my 1 year old Mate 20 pro.
I bet you Android System is always high on the list.

Note 9 always turned off when it came in proximity to something with the sensor, I always put the screen to my leg (protection as I have a physical job) and it turned off the AOD, could see this by covering the top bar of the phone, the Note 10+ lacks this feature seemingly, I actually had to turn off AOD and tap to wake as I would pull the phone out of my pocket and it would be in and about to make an emergency call as my leg had triggered the screen, it seems a really bad issue with the 10 that I've had to set it so the only way the screen comes on is on pickup or pressing the power button as I was having way too many false touches on the screen in my pocket, despite when I'm unlocking the phone I can actually trigger the accidental touch protection but apparently the screen against my leg didn't.
so I would say when they went to o display they did something that made the old proximity sensors worthless other than in calls when you can actively see a couple of pixels at the top of the screen flickering that must have the sensor behind them and I'm guessing that flickering is how it senses proximity and probably why it doesn't work without the full screen on.

Proximity sensor is not used icw flipcovers. Your flipcover (most likely, pending brand/type) contains a magnet that allows the phone to sense whether the cover is closed or not.
Samsung's flipcovers for sure have this magnet.

hi,
yes , i agree with you ,as i had a few of Samsung ,generic ....etc flip covers before .
So i do know , how the "general " flip covers works .
However ,
my flip cover is a generic flip cover , Bodyglove .
secondly, i have originally had it since my Note 9 days .
When ,i got my Note 9 and then later Note 10+ , i did not want to just buy a flip cover ,as i prefer
carrying my phone in a UAG Monarch .
So i "modified " my Bodyglove ,ripped inside out ( no magnets in Bodyglove )
put some ,big strips of velcro , on UAG case ( at back )
and velcro on inside of Bodyglove flip cover.
Even though camera cut outs , at back of Bodyglove, is different (re Note 9/Note10+ ) ,
I don't care , as the case size ,Note9/10+ is basically the same .
In short ...
i carry /use my phone in a UAG Monarch case .
if I go "somewhere " eg running ,shop's etc .
i place my UAG case , inside Bodyglove flip cover and it sticks
with the velcro ...!!!!
The reason for this is to basically protect my screen from scratches /protection etc ........ .
when i place it in my pocket ..!
I don't believe in fitting screen protectors etc .
Never have ...!!!
So back to the original topic .
When i placed my Note 9 and Note 10 + in the flip cover with AOD on ,
The AOD use to fade and go off .
If i opened my "modified " flip cover it had a slight lag and turned on .
This behavior , i'm positive about at i tested it over and over .
However ,
as in my post above ,it does not anymore .????
Could it be that it's a Samsung bug or Samsung doesn't care anymore.??
I know this behavior of turning of AOD off ,was suppose to save battery power ....!!
Thanks for your input .
good luck .

I owned a smart cover for my galaxy note 8.0, it can work properly like sleep and wake.
But here's the problem come,
usually the cover is cover the front of the tablet, but when we use it, we will flip the cover to the back of tablet.
while the cover touched the back side of the tablet, it will also put it as sleep.
so, how to disable smart cover auto sleep?
i had tried the "Lock instantly with power key", but it required at least security of "pattern"
Any ideas?
Need help! THANK YOU!:good:
I guess something is wrong either with your cover or device - putting the cover on the back should never put the device to sleep.
I don't recall anybody reporting similar problems here, also the small sample we have at home (2 notes + 2 covers) behaves correctly.
The best thing (although it's probably easier said than done) would be to establish which one is malfunctioning and have it replaced if possible.
otoh I would also be interested in a way to disable the cover on/off function - mine is so sensitive, that even the slight move of the front part wakes the device, causing increased battery drain and making betterbatterystats readings useless.

It happens all the time to me. Put it nicely in the back. Not a single bit cover the front. Shake the device a little bit. The cover hits the back of the device, make some noise and screen turns off. Magic. As if the device can sense magnet even by its back. But when it sits really tightly that no space bw it and the case, problem solved by put on some sticky tape in the back.
Smart cover not smart at all T^T~ but original case without having that problem right?
Smart cover problem
Still looking for a way to disable the software that causes auto sleep/wake.
The problem with some covers is that they are not authentic from the manufacturers. The original Samsung case for Note 8/N5100 has the correct magnetic power in the case flap. The other covers have a magnet that is too strong so when the flap is in the back the magnet still effects.
I surgically cut the magnet out of the cheep cover and closed it back up. Disabled auto wake with the modification. I am guessing the same could be done with the original authentic Samsung case but it is hard to cut the little magnet out because its built in seamlessly so you cant see the exact location of the magnet.

From Poetic support, turning WiFi off normally takes care of the problem.

I also have that feature disabled. The case also has a cut out for the home button. I traditionally keep the wifi disabled.

Hi all,
i'm running into, i believe, is the same issue.
When rotating or moving the tablet, the screen will automatically turn off and lock.
I've disabled the eye sensor, increased the screen time out, and disabled day note, with no luck.
Such a pain!
If i root this device, is there a guaranteed way around this 'feature'?
Well, i couldnt take it anymore and removed the magnet from the case.
Here's the case in question:
w w w.amazon.com/COD-Leather-Samsung-Galaxy-Edition/dp/B00EZB3EXU
what i did was to take another magnet and move it around the cover until it connected with the other magnet.
With a sharp exacto blade, i split the seam of the cover and pulled out the magnet (about 5mm in diamater).
It's all good now

I've read that the magnet may also interfere with the stylus pen. Will be getting a new keyboard/touchpad leather case soon but I didn't read whether it had a magnetic strap or not. Guess it won't bother me much and like the user above will probably find a way to remove it.

Facing couple of issues with my NOKIA X, request your help pls!
Issue: Screen goes blank during a call, when using the phone without headset, & doesnt come back on, untill the call is disconnected by the caller at the other end.During this period, when the screen goes blank, it leaves me with no access to the menu, dialpad, etc and the call disconnect button doesnt end the call as well.
1) Turned off proxmity sensor in the "Phone-Settings" menu, it works properly.ie the screen stays "on" during the call and no issues with disconnecting the call, accessing the other dialpad options etc.
2)Also Turned on/off Automatically adjust screen brightness , observed that issue is intermittent.
Any leads would be helpful. Not sure about sensor calibration and tweaks
thanks

the screen supposedly to turn off during calls when it detect something near the proximity sensor ie your face when attending calls, this is to preserve power, and it should've come back on again when u bring it far from your face. this is default bahaviour on all smartphones nowadays.
but when it doesn't come back on again after u bring it far from your face after making calls, then thats a problem.
u use screen protector? a thick one and it covering the proximity sensor perhaps? from my experience thick screen protector that covering the sensor can interfere with its sensitivity.
the sensor is on the right side of the nokia logo infront of the phone. look closely and u could see it.

I have a book cover my my Note 10 2014, and I find the smartcover behavior not so "smart". It is, in fact, extremely stupid and turns the screen on and off at completely random times. I don't have the same problem when it is off the cover. Props for Samsung for figuring out how to make it sense that it is in the cover (it is not just a light sensor) but the "smart" part of the feature is rather frustrating, and at times infuriating.
Thanks!
Perhaps try exchanging covers? Mine works perfectly and is the best accessory I could have bought for it (even paid less than MSRP).
Hah. I paid $10 for mine, from China. Maybe that's why it doesn't work so well. Still, there really ought to be a way to disable way to disable any sort of "automatic" feature. For example, it is very easy to disable Smart Stay, Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, automatically connect to wifi, S Beam, NFC, and so on and so forth. All (or most?) of which are on from factory...

Are you using an original Samsung book cover? Some third-party book covers don't have proper magnetic shielding at the front so when you flip it over it affects the screen on-off function of the tablet.
I got my View 20 recently and I'm having a problem with screen unlocking during calls. The speaker is roughly at a 45 degree angle and I think so is the proximity sensor. And it only recognizes objects that are very very close to it. In other words unless I have the phone pressed against my ear (not touching or close to, actually pressed against it) it unlocks the screen during call, the notification panel opens up and I activate things I don't wanna activate... Once just as a test I made a short phone call and I made sure to keep the top of the phone pressed against my ear at all times and somehow it still unlocked the screen and the notification panel was open...
To make things even worse, because the angle is so weird I have to keep the phone lower than I'm used to (or comfortable with) and the bottom of the phone is way below my mouth which is bad too.
It's a real issue and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Please help me.
(And just as a side note I can't believe no one has mentioned this in ANY review - even if the screen doesn't unlock for them, the angle of the speaker is still weird and to hear the sound well you have to hold the phone lower than normally. It IS significant and I have no idea why this hasn't come up in any review or opinion on the internet).

It's not a fault... The sensor is on the top of the device instead of the front/screen so it happens... Poor design choice that's all.
Same problem noticed since day 1, found also no solution yet.
very disappointing.

Yeah, except it's not pointed upwards, it's pointed at a roughly 45 degree angle, so it should still work more or less fine. Maybe less fine than forward-facing sensor but still ok. And I doubt that thousands (millions?) of people who bought that phone experience the same problems and no one has mentioned it yet.
I'm on the second view 20... Sent first one back as I didn't like the warmish tint on the screen... Second one has a much cooler tone... Both do this with calls and my brother also has a view 20 and he has the same issue... Mine was from Amazon and he got his from carphone warehouse.
