FOr those looking for the T-Mobile snap...

Its official http://www.tmonews.com/2009/06/t-mobile-announces-dash-3g/
Thanks, but for some reason I think you may be rubbing in our face a bit
How do you like it?
Im considering adding a line to get one. Then we'll all be obessing about the G2 after the snap is old news.
shwweeetness
Yeah only issue I'm having is 3G is still a no go in my city. Flippin Tmo get your network up already. TMo Baxter is barking and in Milwaukee.
WTF I hear Q3 but that's blowing smoke
i saw a "snap" at best buy the other day for sprint, and i must say i was not very impressed at first use.
the leyboard seemed pretty nice and i liked the hardware upgrades, but i dont know if its for me. (hell ill probably get one if the price is not to high and they dont require a data upgrade, i got the tzones setup right now and i fought hard to get it back)
then again when i first saw the dash on the internet i was like, man thats an ugly phone, then i got one lol. man i love the dash

So far so good. I have not had a chance to really get under the hood but as far as usage its fast, the GPS is smooth (usually have 7 to 20 sats at any given time) the battery lasts a full day with the GPS running nearly all the time (I use it as my Nav device) the track ball takes a bit getting used to but after a day or two you will wonder how you got along without it. Calls are clear and crisp. 3G is awesome.. the limited areas I have that is. The only real issue I have with it is speaker volume (watching movies, listening to MP3's etc) It seems a bit low in my opinion.
Mine is T-Mo branded device, I got it through.. lets say.. the back door
So did Tmo do a sloppy job on the ROM like they did with the Dash or is it usable? Does it have useless crap like handigo and will there be an HTC unbranded ROM availible for it?

Yes, its sloppy, and T-Mobile added their junk of course. But the ROM aint too bad considering. As for as the HTC ROM, There will be a WM 6.5 HTC ROM (at least that is the buzz) and T-Mo will probably offer an update to 6.5 as well. Of course it wont take long for the folks here to offer up some variety ROMs
I seriously think I might use my upgrade credit to get one.
My company has been blackberry-only for 2 years, and i'm finally getting a dash for my personal line, but I may decide to try one out.
I'll have to get blackberry connect on it though.
Now, if they would just hurry up and get 3G in Albuquerque and EL Paso
3g is offered here where I live, but Im moving to Missouri where Ill be roaming on ATnT. Oh well, I wonder if I can weasel out of my contract due to living in an area where no service is offered and unlock my T-Mo phones.

You can get out of contract if you can prove you moved to an area without service. As far as unlocking, do it before you cancel contract, a stipulation is you have to be an active customer to get the unlock codes
Cool and yea im aware of that. I been a long time customer of T-mo thought and with flex pay I get free roaming. So Im not sure what Im gonna do, if I do switch to a similar plan Ill be paying around 15 dollars more a month and not get fav 5.
Have you tried the pocket emulators (snes,NES) on the snap yet? How do they run? I was thinkin of just remapping the D-pad to QWES so I wouldnt have to play using the track ball. Also what kind of java is it running?
It has JBED, but since I dont use Java its not that big of a deal. I installed Smartgear and a few hundred ROMs, no problems so far on any of the games, the track ball actually works perfectly with the games.. since it is not a spin and cycle track ball it works pretty much the same as the D-Pad. I installed most of what I had on my Dash and the only program to give me any 'issues' was Duke 3d.. but after tweeking the user files it runs perfectly.
datz phat.
I would get it if there was a GBA emulator for smartphones.
But until then, I'll be putting my eye on a new PPC xD

Did Anybody Even Buy The HTC Arrive???

i havent seen any threads posted or anything here whats going on? did u sprint guys pass on the arrive or something?
I will probably get one off contract this week. Not a fan of the form factor, but I need to replace my Diamond ASAP.
Not on Sprint.
I ordered. Looking at other forums it appears that instore stock at most stores was very limited. No best Buys or Radio Shacks carried it. Amazon and Wirefly had it cheaper, but it wont be here until wednesday.
I got one on Sat 3/20, pretty neat so far. I catch myself using my old WebOS gestures sometimes.
I got one today (3/21) Had carried an EVO since day one. still have both. so far so good. the biggest reason Im most likely gonna keep the arrive is the zune player and zune pass.
I posted this review on sprintusers.com:
I came from the Hero running the latest official ROM (Android 2.1 I believe). I've actually extensively played around with WP7 prior to this so I'm very familiar with the OS. IMO there is no comparison between the two devices. It had gotten to the point where I didn't use my Hero for anything other than phone calls and SMS becaues it was so slow. And it wasn't as if I had a bunch of stuff loaded onto it. Even after hard-resetting and only loading absolute essentials (such as Exchange data) it was still SLOOOOW. (lags to switch between screens, pull up menus, open SMS, etc.)
The Arrive on the other hand is lightning quick for the things I want it to do. It loads apps very quickly and never seems to bog down. I've managed to load two exchange accounts as well as several GB of music and videos, sync with FB, etc., and it's still fast. Fast to make phone calls, fast to SMS, fast to load apps. As I said, I have extensively played around with WP7 (was able to borrow a friend's HD7 for several days) so none of this is a suprise to me. Software-wise it delivers exactly as I thought it would.
Comparing the hardware to the HD7 has been interesting. I thought I would find the screen too small on the Arrive but it actually seems to be ok. Definitely smaller than the HD7 (obviously) but not so small as to be a deal-breaker. The biggest surprise has been the quality of the screens between the two. The HD7 colors are very washed out and the screen in general is kind of "meh". The Arrive screen though, really POPS. Colors are nice and saturated and the screen in general seems sharper. My friend who owns the HD7 agreed during a side-by-side comparison. As far as weight, it is noticeably heavier than the HD7. However I think the Arrive feels higher-end than the HD7, even though there is a lot of plastic in both. I can't put my finger on it-- maybe because it's more dense, i.e. more mass in a smaller package, it just seems more substantial.
The keyboard is a pleasure to use-- I have not had a physical keyboard since my HTC Apache back in '06 (!) and I realize now what I have been missing. Very easy to type, intuitive key placement, and good tactile feedback.
All in all I'm very satisfied with the phone. The limitations of the OS have been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere, but as long as you are ok with those limitations you won't be disappointed.

he has been wanting a windows phone since seeing my hd7 and dell venue pro. He likes it already and it's not even here

Well the Arrive/7 Pro has it's own Forum section at the verrrrrry bottom of XDA. Most of the posts are there.
I bought one for myself and one for my wife. I am really digging it, there are obviously some things that is missing, but the overall responsiveness and "just works" is great.

If it won't connect to sprint network/activate, go into your settings-->Cellular--> Change Network Profile/Update PRL.
I had to this on mine after the Sprint store activated it because it would not make phone calls/connect to the internet. My wife who got her activated at the same time by the same person did not have to do this.

yeah, that worked. i stumbled upon that a little after posting my last comment and 10 seconds after stumbling upon it, the person from sprint told me to do it.
All I can say about this phone is that this sht is immaculate!
Got mine sat. And I love it, was coming from the evo . I hate the evo and android but I do miss some of it's features! Don't think I'll look back
I pre-ordered mine and picked it up Sunday. I think the thing is very nice. I came from a HTC Hero. What surprised me is the thickness is only sightly more than the hero. It's noticeable but just slightly.
There are a few quirks to get used to, especially multitasking limitations. But the speed, flow and intuitive interface make up for that. Thinking about it, even though my rooted Hero did multitasking, the performance was so bad, it ruined the experience (same goes for my wife's Evo).
I still find myself using the soft keyboard -- but for the long/detailed email composing, you cannot beat having a physical keyboard (screen real estate).

I had two on pre-order. Picked them up on Sun. afternoon (3/20).
I entered my Live ID and had contacts, Xbox, ZunePass configured by the time I hit the parking lot. When I got in the car I added my main Hotmail account, and when I got home I configured it for Exchange. The rest was spent exploring apps (no, Steve Jobs, NOT "apples").
The wife was another story, she's spent a few days on the migration - mostly because she hadn't synced her phone with Outlook in the 30 days prior, she wanted to migrate her PST to another machine, and she hadn't properly configured Outlook to sync with Windows Live. (Edit: Here's the Live support forum thread on that issue)
She's getting where she needs to be - but I think migrating her old Calendar items are giving her problems. She's posted in the Windows Live support forums and I'll try to post a link to the issue later. It's not really a WP7 issue - just a sync issue she's having between Outlook and Hotmail Calendar.
So I guess how smooth it goes depends on how much you embrace the Windows Live "cloud" concept. In my case, I've never had an easier more care-free migration to a new phone. The wife's experience has been frustrating, but mostly because she's having to learn a lot of new things at once and of course she's in a big hurry. Procrastinators of the world unite... tomorrow - right?

The Opinion Of A Sprint Employee

I thought this was about "the announcement", lol.
I don't feel myself looking forward to the next phone on the horizon I'm actually satisfied with what I have for once.

I actually identify with this, after coming from a Moment to a Hero to an EVO4G quickly...had that for a year, happily, then to an E3D, to ANOTHER E3D, to an NS4G, to ANOTHER E3D, considered the photon but wasn't impressed, and finally to the ET4G I agree whole heartedly.
I anticipated just jumping to the Nexus Prime ASAP, but, I think I'll hang onto this device for a while....and this is before I've done any more than flash CWM in preparation.
xReMiNGToN said:
I'm currently a Sprint employee and I work at an Indirect retailer/service & repair center. I'll be the first to admit that I have a serious phone addiction. I somehow end up getting all the new phones right when they launch and get to play with all the ones I don't get to carry personally. My family has a business plan with 17 lines so I'm always able to somehow squeeze and upgrade out, do a "Repair" swap to a comparable model, or employee purchase a phone.
My girlfriend has had an iPhone 4 since launch and even though I used to carry one for awhile I've grown to resent them. My first Android upon working here was a Samsung Epic which I loved at first (coming from an iPhone 3G) but as I loaded more apps on it I watched it become laggy and seen it develop quite an overheating problem. I was extremely close to going back with an iPhone then I found this site and began experimenting with rooting and custom roms and now I'm hooked.
So to flash forward since my Epic days (sorry I've been rambling) I've went from a Nexus S to a EVO 3D to a HTC Arrive (tried something new and yeah didn't work out) to a Motorola Photon and now finally a Galaxy S II. Needless to say every single phone I've had up until this one had issues I just couldn't cope with. My nexus got horrible signal wherever I was at and 3G was practically worthless. I was so hyped about the 3D and when it launched the first one I had was defective and my second would freeze and lag constantly. To top it all off about 30% of the ones we would sell were defective out of the box. It's hard to have love for a phone that you sell to someone only to see them come back the next day ready to rip your head off. After that I figured I'd try something new and went with an HTC Arrive. I'll spare you the details lets just say a week into it and I was done. So I decided to go with the Photon and for the most part I liked it other then the horrible UI (Customer Launchers saved me) and the silent call issue that plagued it.
I'd been reading about the GSII for awhile and once I heard it was coming to Sprint I had to make sure I could get it on Launch. Enough calls into Sprint got me my upgrade early and I took the bait and dove right in not knowing exactly what new "issues" I'd be getting myself into. It's been almost a week since I've had mine and I can say without a doubt that I've never ever owned a phone this amazing. Everything about it is superb from the screen, to the UI, and the sleek design. I haven't had NOT ONE single problem with this phone and to me that's saying something. Traditionally almost all of our Samsung devices have been crap. Plain and simple. This phone was bashed by all my coworkers before launch because of the bad name Samsung had made for themselves. Now they're just as amazed as I am. I don't feel myself looking forward to the next phone on the horizon I'm actually satisfied with what I have for once.
I know this post is nothing but rambling but honestly this phone is everything I've ever hoped for and more. Once the roms start pouring in I truly feel it will be a short while before this phone is dethroned as King. I guess I made this post just to see how everyone else was feeling about there phone and if anyone has had similar issues with past phones and now finds themselves satisfied.
This is my first post on here so don't flame me too hard =) Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated especially from anyone else who shares my phone addiction lol

im an ex-employee so i totally feel you and your addiction. Its a serious issue, and an expensive one lol.
But yes your right. When I bought the 3d, my dude that still works there tried to talk me out of buying it. Because of the power and signal issues. Of course like a idiot I still did. Wanted to love that thing so bad.
Im going to also agree with you 1000%. This is my DREAM phone. Ive lost sleep over the s2. When i heard Sprint was getting it, I literally thought about nothing else than the Epic Touch, aside from women and money. This thing is awesome. ****t, the only thing I want is higher resolution, but even with that I love this phone. I cant imagine what the next one will be like, but for the FIRST time in my life, I AM TOTALLY SATISFIED WITH A PHONE!!!
Yes my addiction to crack started when I was..oh wait...your talking phones...Like you my friend I have had every phone you listed (except the Arrive...my god man what were you thinking!) and this is the best phone I have owned..hands down. No problems...yet. Great camera and fast. I love it!
I will agree. I was happy with the HTC Incredible based on what was available and told myself that no matter how bad I wanted a new phone no 'feature" would be worth the upgrade until dual-core chips hit. Yes I jumped on the LTE band wagon but quickly realized that was far from ready for daily use. Then they(dual-core) hit and man its been disappointing till the chip Samsung used( Exynos). That chip with the GPU totally blows anything else out of the water.
Maybe just stick to iphone if android gives you so much trouble? I'm pretty sure there are lots of users on this forum that use Epic1, Nexus S and Evo 3D with no problems.

most definately i am very satisfied with this phone just stock. thats amazing to say cuz i was a flashoholic. from the og evo. i can root but no need to since im on vacation only needed it for work. and the resolution is a small minus but dont mind really the screen looks amazing everywhere. my real minus is kickstand. coming froma evo i miss the hell out of it
I thought sprint employee don't get the phone untill 2 or three week because customer are the one paying the most and they should be the first to have it?.......I am under an employee account ( SWAC ) and sprint wouldn't let me buy the phone at all. They keep saying it's one of the disadvantage of being under this plan, but is more advantage than have a regular plan. God DAMN! I can't wait till is available to buy ( BUT WHEN?).........It was kinda funny on launch day I went to sprint store and they told I can't buy it cause I'm under employee account......I was like WTF! than why ya let me buy the gift card to reserve for the Epic 4G Touch?...they was like, well....who ever sold you that card should of known better, we are really sorry......I was like can I have my refund?......they said, No, we can't refund but you can use to buy any sprint product........I was like, can I use it to buy the phone when is available for SWAC plan?........they said, ummmm maybe... I dont have any desire to worry about any phone coming out after getting this phone. It does everything I need it to better than any other phone I have come across.

Sprint employees can't buy it yet. That's how it always is they have to wait a while before high end phones to become available to them. HOWEVER...one person per corporate store gets designated to be an advocate, and are responsible for making sure the staff is well informed on it and handling customer questions about it, and they get to keep the phone because of it. I was the advocate for the palm pre and OG Evo

He's not a Sprint employee. Indirect dealers are not Sprint employees, they work for a company that has a reseller agreement with Sprint.
He also said he has a family plan with 17 lines, so he got it on a non employee line, then moved it to his line. I know indirect employees get a discounted line, not sure how much it is though.

new galaxy s3 owner

Since the original expire date was dec 22 my Dad decided to do an early upgrade so me and my bro was going to get the samsung galaxy nexus, but we wanted the s3 instead and these went on sale during black friday and my Dad took advantage of it so I got a white one and bro got the blue one got them activated today and I'm loving this phone so far. Coming from the lg optimus s to this, this is one huge upgrade so I may have questions!
It's a pretty legit phone.

I've owned all the galaxy's on Sprint.. (See sig) Just got my S3 as well. Love it so far.. Rooted (of course) running The Peoples Rom, and it's smooth as silk. Overall i'm impressed with it. Coming from the S2 so we see over the days how it goes. (Just got last night) But as was stated, Enjoy it! Galaxy's are great phones (No matter which model you try)
I made the jump from my Epuke 4G to the SGS3. Wow, what a difference a couple of years makes. Sprint still sucks for coverage down here in San Diego, but the fact that I got the phone dirt cheap makes up for crappy coverage.

Just got my galaxy s4!

picked it up earlier this morning, pretty awesome.
also glad we got a new home!
about to go try the root method for the phone, wish me luck lol.

Where did you get it a store?
Ordered mine online a few hours after they went live on tmobile. Free overnight shipping when i ordered it! i cant wait it willbe here sometime today, so excited!!!
Ordered yesterday in the AM. No tracking till Midnight Central and then pop and its shipped for 3 PM delivery today. Called UPS to ask to hold as I work during the time of delivery. Was told to call back once it arrives but before it gets on the truck.
Woke up at 6am and called and changed it to Pick Up. Was lucky that they pulled the box off the truck and held it. The wife got the S4 (White) switched from the iphone yesterday, so convinced her to pick it up from the UPS place and she dropped it off a couple hours ago. Mine is Black and already have a Sammy 32GB Class10 SD in it.
I am unable to put it down.....I think I am going to get fired today. LOL.
Love it, and while I am at it, am removing a lot of useless crap on the phone through Application. Will give it a No Root Treatment for 20 days, and hopefully, the 32 GB comes in, and will order that and return this. If not, then Root it is.

Any luck rooting it? I hope that you're enjoying your new S4.
Any lag on T-Mobile S4? On AT&T S4 forum, people complained about the lag and it is not as smooth as the s3. Please post your observation after using it.
Just order mine. but have to switch plan
hope its worth it

Havent noticed any. Just had my google account sync all the apps that I had on the HTC Sensation and it worked flawlessly. They were quite a bit, none huge, but over 50+ apps. Took about 1.2GB of space after apps, and uninstall of several apps, I am left with 8.8GB space.
I do live in a non-LTE but 42 HSPA+ area, so when I ran speedtest with the fast.tmobile.com apn, it yielded me about 6mbps down, and then I changed it to epc.tmobile.com (I had that on the iphone 4S) and am getting consistant 12-20mbps. Bear in mind, this is just HSPA+. No LTE.
I am trying to avoid using it much as dont want to get fired....haha. But thus far, it has been very very responsive. I have the Air Touch and Smart Stay on and they work like a charm.
I did uninstall Lookout and also Tmobile Visual VM (I use Google Voice for my VM). Did see a little lag when Lookout would scan the app, but that is from since my first time trying the LO Beta.
Will update tomorrow with a more detail overview. Hope this helps.

Apologies for posting again, But thought I should share this.
With charging, I had it connected to the computer thru my Micro USB cable (I know it doesn't matter) and it literally took over 2 hours to go from 8% to 11% battery with literally no use. But then I pulled out the wall adapter from the box, and same cable connected to the wall, and in 185 minutes, I am up from 11% to 40% battery with a little use.
Implying, I think there is no Fast USB charge. I had the Sensation rooted in a couple hours after receiving it and the kernel updated to Fast USB charge so I do miss it.

Yes, I'd like to know the status of this as well... as far as I know only AT&T (and most likely Verizon) locked their bootloaders, and I read a statement that this isn't exclusive to AT&T. Does this mean we will see a locked bootloader as well? if so.. mega bummer. and here I just left HTC for Samsung.. drat.
That being said, I got my S4 in the UPS today, and I'm in the process of making an unbagging (yes, it came in a bubbled polybag)/unboxing/initial impressions review of it.
I got mine around noon.
I placed the order yesterday before noon and they gave me overnight shipping for free, but it was just until 1:00 a.m. today that I received the tracking number via email.
Haven't had the chance to play with it since it's a very busy day at work.
Can't' wait to get home.
