I want to root my a50 soon. Is anyone have us model can root?
From what I understand this phone is very new. Not to mention that it's if you are on a U variant like I am sad there is no root because the bootloader is locked I believe. I was trying to confirm with an expert or someone who knows more than me. My variant is "SM-A505U1"
I just bought this model of phone.
I found this url.
http://androidbiits.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a50-sm-a505u1-easily/
All the steps are not clear to me though yet.
My phone has no oem or boot loader unlock options in the settings.
It also has knox which may complicate things.

My phone was bought unlocked. The device is not a/b and it is system-as-root
Found this bit of information on the forums here:
"

Lol or simply download CSC file from a region different from your country e.g if in US download and flash an european CSC file via odin."
The snapdragon chip is locked only in the US per that post. I seem to remember something about a major security issue found in those chips.

I found this url on changing the csc,but it erases the config.
Maybe there is another method that does not do that such as the one mentioned above.
https://www.**********.com/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
Has anyone successfully flashed any combination firmware? I found this at halabtech, haven't tried to flash it. I thought I seen a bootloader unlock & root for ASH6 firmware I don't think it lets you downgrade though once you have the latest ASK1 firmware. I tried installing this one as well "https://support.halabtech.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=file&id=206734" the only part it failed on was on the boot.img.lz4 everything else flashed successfully. I hope this helps get a start to troubleshooting.
(ASH6 FIRMWARE) haven't tested yet. for A505U1 variant only!
https://support.halabtech.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=file&id=165842
Correction it seems that this is not a snapdragon chip.
I was able to look at the CSC by booting into safe mode and dialing the special number which includes the IMEI #.
They seemed to be all cscs in the US which is why they called it a "US version"
There are files that could be changed with the csc in them , but I don't know what the effect that would have. (maybe bad)
It seems that in the US version there is no OEM unlock option to change in the developer settings.
Also I have not found source code yet for this particular model. (SM-A505U1)
I tried all the root apk out there like kingo-root etc. None of them would root it.
It seems that to change the CSC, you need root access or an unlocked bootloader.
So that method will not work. It seems that unless samsung releases an upgrade that allows you to unlock the bootloader then we will have to wait. That is until
a new exploit is found, and released say via kingo-root etc.
I'm really dying waiting for opportunity to root this phone and make this phone runs so smooth
Here is one URl that provides a schematic for a related phone.
https://www.mobilerdx.com/2020/01/d...0-a505f-service-manual-schematic-diagram.html
Is the boot loader stored inside the processor chip or on another one?

It's just a click bait article.
If you read it carefully, they're assuming there is already a BL unlock for the A505U variants, which doesn't exist at the moment.
I just got notification of an upgrade. I was hoping that the new version would have the oem unlock feature.
I had automatic upgrade turned off nad automatic download on. I was looking at the message, and it automatically scheduled the upgrade without my permission. So I ran the upgrade. It did not add the oem_unlock feature. Maybe next time. Hint! Hint!

I got notice of an upgrade today. I had it set to autodownload. It said that after the upgrade was applied that I could not downgrade. Also it said the I had only 3 chances. Last time it upgraded without my permission. So I turned of the autodownload in the settings.
If I knew the new version would enable an unlocking feature, then I, of course, would upgrade.
I found a trick to the no Unlock OEM option that worked so well I didnt believe it the first time. But my bootloader is unlocked and remains unlocked.
It seems that if you specify automatic download it will upgrade it even if you turn that off.
This latest upgrade still does not have the oem unlock feature. I made sure that my automatic download is turned off.
Automatic download also means automatic install. It seems to download the upgrade into a region of the file system which only root can read.

That method did not work for me. I tried it again and it did not work.
"Samsung allows unlocking the bootloader on the international versions of their phones. But on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S9, and Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the ‘OEM unlocking’ option only becomes available after 7 days of activating the device and adding a Samsung or Google account to the device. If you would rather not wait 7 days or if even after 7 days the button is still missing, XDA Senior Member altai1963 has posted instructions about how to fix the missing ‘OEM unlock’ button on "
Perhaps it requires a samsung account. I do not have one on my phone. Incidentally I noticed that all my contacts had been uploaded to google. I would never have knowingly done that. I had to export my contacts to a file, delete all my contacts making sure then that google was not being used, and then import my contacts from the file that I had saved them to. I was worried that I would lose all my contacts, but fortunately that did not happen. It would probably be good to verify that the file exists and notate it location using a file system browser.

So I guess that I am back waiting for the next exploit which might be a while if bonuses are paid for finding them.

He's either bsing you or trolling or has a different variant.. the "trick" they use has been around a while now but only works on models that are actually unlockable.. the USA variants are NOT unlockable from the start so any tricks will not work.. simple as that.. this has been discussed for years and everywhere on xda as well as many discussions about this specific model.. if u want bl unlock purchase an unlockable variant..
Ppl seem to get confused cuz some devices in USA are exynos models so they think they can bl unlock them but this is not the case.. just bcuz a device is exynos doesn't make it unlockable.

I did some research before I bought it. I also bought it because I could use it on multiple carriers.
The rooted ones that I saw must have been nonUS versions. What a waste of money. I only bought it because I wanted to root it and put a custom rom on it. I did not want to wait for a linux phone and truly 5g phones are coming out now.

I found a bootloader unlock method for the Verizon variant of this phone, however after trying it on my phone I was able to get temp root on my AT&T Note 4. I have not tried to unlock the bootloader yet, but I will keep you guys posted.
Here is the link: galaxynote4root/galaxy-note-4-root/how-to-root-unlock-bootloader-on-galaxy-note-4/2/ (add .com infront of the first root , I can't post links yet)
(Make sure that on step 9 and up to change the file name in the command to n4-2 instead of n4-fix)
(Download everything except the Verizon stuff)
Final edit: This method only works for root, the bootloader can't be unlocked for AT&T because there was never a developer edition released for it.
Note: The root is extremely buggy and unstable, so it is not that usable. Hopefully someone else can make a root better for this device.
How did the temp root go? Doesn't it reboot after a while and then lose the root?

It is very unstable and slow but it works, I'm probably going to install a different rom if I can unlock the bootloader.

Great going buddy!
How long has it been running with root? Does it survive a reboot?
I do hope you can unlock the bootloader, so we csn install custom ROMs and Kernels!

It does not survive a reboot, however root although it slows the phone down seems to be working fine. I'm still trying to unlock the bootloader.
Nice to see someone take the bold risk. I hope you find success. I think everyone blew this off because this method was for Verizon and it tricks the phone to make it recognized as a Devloper model who come bootloader unlocked. AT&T does not have developer model devices so chances are this method will not unlock 910A bootloaders.
Wish you luck! There's a bounty thread here somewhere..
I saw on the other thread you temp bricked your phone attempting a bootloader unlock..hope you do unlock it without bricking your phone..

This temp-root doesn't let us access the system partition
This type of root has been recognized by this community for several months and we dismissed as worthless because DM-Verity removes the root after every reboot and I am surprised you guys haven't gotten a brick yet because, on Android 5.1.1, Samsung added a security method where if anyone roots with Kingroot/KingORoot and reboot, you get a message saying that the kernel isn't from AT&T before fully booting up

I unbricked it, bootloader can't be unlocked though, also I realized that kingoroot works on 5.1.1. It might be due to the file that I pushed for temp root, so now I have temp root on my phone that isn't that unstable.
Thanks for attempting to root though. We might have to look into other exploits to get a stable one. Or maybe there isnt one and its the end of the road on our journey to find it.
Update on how kingroot workin now?

ok, so first of all
Go into Download mode. How to get there?
Turn off your phone entirely, and then when it has been fully turned off, hold down the power button, home button, and volume down button all at once until you get a warning screen. Press the volume down button and it should give you all the information about the phone without the system being all jacked up
Its should say if you have SM-N910F (International Variant) or SM-N910A (AT&T Variant)
Hi guys
Recently i bought my girlfriend LG G4. Now I think it's from Singapore, and I totally have no idea, how to update it. I have 5.1 now, and of course I wanna 6.0. Using automatic option from smartphone still showing "up to date". LG bridge is finding some firmware, but after downloading, at 1% i got error. LG UP always saying, that's bad kdz file ( I download 4-5 of them). When i'm trying to check version by IMEI on devtester, I get nothing. I have no clue what could i do next .

By carrier, I mean the wireless company that provides the phone/texting services to your phone ... if the phone wasn't bought from the original services company.
If it was, the other option might be to try a factory data reset to see if it allows the update to 6.0 to come through automatically - you will have to back all your data first, otherwise you will lose it.

You're lucky you have the European version.. you have no idea how much hassle I went through to get that version...
So anyways, since your bootloader is unlockable, I recommend you unlock it first, prior to flashing anything mentioned by sdembiske.
I recommend you also root the phone and install TWRP, just incase something goes wrong while flashing, you can easily recover the phone, and not have it completely destroyed.
Once you have rooted, unlocked bootloader, and installed TWRP, you can safely do literally anything on the phone
Flashing the rom can easily make your 700USD device worth 0, within seconds... so Please .... take the precautions.... and install TWRP
Cheers

LG Flash Tool has many more bricking issues than LGUP-NEW. If you ever decide you want to roll-back to 5.1, LGUP-NEW will throw up a roll-back version error if one is present - LG Flash Tool will not and will result in a bricked phone. Overall, your best and safest bet is to use LGUP-NEW.
One note: There are fraudulent sellers of supposed H815's out there and as you bought yours through auction there are no guarantees. To be on the safe side I would check with the seller to see if you can ascertain if he was the original owner and ask where the phone was purchased (what country) and who the original carrier was.

Power down the phone, pull off the back cover and take out the battery. There should be a white tag under it - make a note of all the letters and numbers there. Provided the tag hasn't been tampered with, it should provide a good idea of what model you have and help narrow down your search for a kdz/tot that will work. I would still check with the seller of the phone and seek some verification. If the auction site is reputable, you may have some recourse if the phone is not as it was sold as.

The physical label is easier to tamper with, than the actual software. Just go by my suggestion.. the MMI codes.

The member providing you with the codes to access the hidden menu seems to have forgotten that not all codes work for the same models (as he himself found out when he tried once before) - there are carrier firmware variations with locks imposed on being able to access some. IMEI's can be changed by 'snakeheads, pimps' ... and fraudulent sellers.
Frankly, you are lucky you haven't bricked your phone completely by flashing different model/carrier variants and if you had used the LG Flash Tool to install the H815 kdz variant he recommended, you most likely would have. The same member has, for a fact, provided misleading, misinformed and potentially very harmful advice to other less informed members.

What do you mean "if you had used the LG Flash Tool to install the H815 kdz variant he recommended, YOU MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE" ??
How do you know for sure?? Have you tried it??? NO you havn't tried it, so you have no right to say "it would most likely brick it".

Hey buddy, let's check whether your bootloader is unlockable before you do anything. Please download ADB (Android Debug Bridge)
Before we do anything, make sure "Enable OEM Unlock" and "USB Debugging" options are enabled.
Once you install ADB, open Command Prompt (Press Windows Key + R , then type 'cmd' and press Enter key)
Issue the following commands:
Code:
cd C:\adb
Code:
adb start-server
Code:
adb devices
At this point, your device should show up under the list of devices. If it doesn't issue the following commands to restart the ADB server:
Code:
adb kill-server
Code:
adb start-server
Then, check again whether the device is being detected
Code:
adb devices
If the device is not showing, please check whether drivers are properly installed
If the device is being shown, you can proceed to the following command:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
If the device just boots back to Android, then the bootloader is locked, and you could have any device aside from the H811 or H815 European version
If it boots into the bootloader, then you have either the H811 or the H815 European version, and you should be able to easily root, install TWRP and flash any variants kdz file.
Now, if you have got this far without booting back to Android, time to unlock bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Once complete, issue:
Code:
fastboot getvar unlock
If you get the message "Unlock: Yes", then you have successfully unlocked bootloader.
Hope this helps

This was posted in the all Note 8 forum claiming it is an engineering combo. Has anyone tried it to verify it is actually an engineer boot?

From what i gather from the firmware this is the us firmware for sprint, which in theory should work for verizon, however not worth bricking to find out.

I can confirm this Combination firmware is legit, or at least the one from the AFH link. You must do a factory reset after flash or the phone will not boot, likely due to encryption.
This kernel is permissive, and it does have ADB enabled by default.

When you say likely due to encryption, do you mean encryption already present on the phone or does flashing this encrypt it? I don't believe my phone is encrypted as I haven't enabled any secure unlock system. Or do you mean bootloader encryption. Unless I'm mistaken the phone isn't encrypted until after a secure unlock option is enabled.
I really don't want to go through my phone setup again when root isn't available yet. This just seems like a first step to enable flashing of a rooted firmware.

Since android 6.0, encryption of /userdata is supposed to have been standard. My understanding is that the partition is encrypted at first boot. It's probably encrypted with your personal key after you set a secure lock setting.
Regardless, won't boot without factory reset. You will lose your data if you want to use this firmware, but simply flashing it doesn't format /userdata. I can't say whether or not flashing back to stock triggers automatic factory reset, but sometimes it does.
I did confirm earlier today thought that you can't only flash the kernel. Phone won't boot, regardless of factory reset. Nor will it work with abl.mbn(I assume android boot loader), and xbl ( download mode?) But, the kernel is not fully permissive anyway. /system cannot be remounted rw, and I can't manipulate the files in /dev/block either.

I'd like to try that, but insofar I noticed in Download mode it says the carrier is ATT. I think this might be set in the /efs but I could be wrong. If so, root can help. For the record, Verizon is the same model N950U as ATT.
Greetings all,
Been a couple years since I've visited these boards, I just picked up the note a couple days back. Am I reading this correctly that we can actually flash the verizon model with the engineering firmware to a more permissive setup without brick, or am I just exceptionally out of date and reading this wrong?

hmm. interesting. now I just need to understand (or make sure I understand correctly) that/what is gained by using this firmware? Is root or bootloader unlocked gained by flashing this firmware? Hey everyone I'm looking to unlock my phone. The goal is unlock, twrp (or alt), Detoxed Rom w/ Root Magsik. The phone is from Telus and Telus SIM it's Canadian variant. Model # SM-G960W.
Links: Unlock Bootloader? , TWRP , Detoxed Rom
TWRP says it doesn't support W version, or is there away around this? Thanks
I would like to help you about this if you still having this problem
Unfortunately the only version of TWRP supported Snapdragon version of S9 is only for 9600. And I don't think that it will work for 960W

One more if your real goal is to unlock Canadian version of S9 you should know that in Canada all phones should be sold unlocked since December 2017 (you should be able to use any SIM card} . But if your goal is to root the phone (for example to remove all Samsung bloatware) there's no way to do this for now

That patch is generated for every phone, even ones with locked bootloaders, so it will work if you can unlock the bootloader but that will never happen.
I found one way to unlock the bootloader on my galaxy s9 sm-g960w
I used this firmware on this page, it's a crom.(combinat...), https://shell.boxwares.com/Download.aspx?L=8417
Although the page says it's for the sm-g960w, the filename once downloaded says it's for g960u. Nonetheless, after flashing using odin the patched version, you can unlock the bootloader in Developer settings. At least for me it's there.
So, using this crom enable to unlocked bootloader, firmware.mobi doesn't contain a CF-AUTO-ROOT file for this version of the firmware.(COMBINATION_FAC_FA80_G960USQU3ARG2) so I still unsure whether it can be rooted. When I visit the samsungfour.com website, it gives me a security certificate error and fails to load so I cannot say for certain that the tutorial on their website for the sm-g960w snapdragon 845 varient works or not. I'll try the website later tonight or tommorow and post back here.

im on G960WVLS3ARJ6 , no limitations on what build you have to flash?
I might not update to Pie when it comes out!
I was on the latest build when I flashed with patched Odin. which was G960WVLS3ARJ6
i wouldnt waste your time.. its not a "crom" more so your standard combination firmware.. combo firms have always had the oem unlock option in dev settings.. unfortunately all it will really do for you is disable frp.. the bootloader will still remain locked..
you can confirm this by going into dl mode and trying to flash a custom img.. also can verify in adb by doing a getprop..
flash lock and other lock will still be 1 and verifiedbootstate will still be green.

LG haven't released security updates for V30 in literally over a year now.
I'd imagine security updates would come through the usual OS mechanisms, and not a forced app install at 3am. And wouldn't a bootloader update require a reboot afterwards? This spyware didn't require a reboot...

It doesn't say it's a bootloader update. It says it's something to prevent bootloader hijacking. What form comes in, I don't know. But it seems to match the timeline.
The people so far getting it do not have the bootloaders unlocked yet and are not rooted. (EDIT: others are now getting it too, already with unlocked bootloaders.)
So far seems to be T-Mobile only, because T-Mobile has a bootloader unlock setting which actually works.
If you find out more or different information, please let us know.
The bootloader vulnerability seems like the likely reason this was installed on our devices. I have t-mobile version and this was installed on my device as well. I'm rooted with stock ROM.
There are two permissions associated with this software package:
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED
com.lge.permission.RECEIVE_PACKAGE_ACTIONS
I originally disabled this apk as soon as it was installed before rebooting, but have since enabled it and it doesn't seem to affect anything.

Lots of system "apps" don't have icons nor ability to uninstall unless you are rooted. And no they don't have documentation. It's quite common. If rooted, look at the huge list of "apps" available in Titanium Backup for backup/restore. In that list, over half -- even those with LG in the name -- have generic green Android icon because there is no assigned icon. And of course they won't show up in your launcher.
This is why OCD debloating discussed in another thread is such a bad idea. You may not know what the system apps actually do and it may be something important. I'm not saying this is important -- I'm just saying no documentation, no icons is quite common for system apps.

Actually, @jsndr had already posted yesterday that they received it on their rooted, stock phone.
I am speculating that LG wrote this for all phones affected by the new bootloader vulnerability, but they depend on carriers to push it on the carrier models, and only T-Mobile bothered to do so.
The fact that we didn't see it on US998 (combined with other evidence) probably just confirms that LG considers it a US Cellular model rather than a true Open Market model.
If I still had my H932, I would just remove this using ADB uninstall. Along with SRTC, MLT, and com.tmobile.pr.adapt, all of which just slow down the phone and report home to LG/TMO about your actions.
OBVIOUSLY take a backup first

Hi everyone,
I found you when this software came on my phone on 8/25, and I went "What the crap is this now?" LOL.
I wanted to share that I have an LG G7 Fit, and my service is with Mint Mobile, who utilizes T-Mobile network. My initial thought is this might be some kind of tracker app for COVID contact tracing purposes? Or a precursor to a roll-out for it? I figure they likely wouldn't outright name it in such a way that we would know that, you know?
