Hi,
As you all know, the stable version of Android 10 has started to roll, I updated mine today and wanted to find out about the new features.
What irritated me the most is the pad which appears below the keyboard in portrait mode and can not be removed. I use gestures, so I don't have a navigation bar, and I benefit from the full length of the screen. With this new silly pad, I lose an area equal to that dedicated for the navigation bar, and for no reason!
Anyone has managed to install the update and found out about new issues?
Is any solution available for this issue?
The pad disappeared, don't ask me how because I really don't know lol

I know how!
You can disable it in navigation bar settings, select full screen gestures then there's an option for back key always there if keyboard pops up
Oh, exactly!
Man, that was really annoying
idk, i find the padding to be more comfortable for where my fingers are, but its great to have the option.
Let's see how good this android 10 is, I hope it will not be a resource-battery hog, I remenber stories back to the note 8, that when going from 7.1.1 to 8.0, the battery drain was huge (for some users) among other complaints
Sorry, but where did you get stable version of Android 10?

I don't notice any improvements in terms of battery life, I even feel that the standby drain is slightly more.

Glad to hear that battery does not get worse by much, do you use galaxy labs? maybe the extra optimizations it provides work better on 10 than in 9, I am using it with pie, and I can'see real improvements, but, in 10 it might just work better
I'm running the U with tmobile firmwire and still no update. My wifes s10 got android 10

I'm not using it, and I believe it's a little bit early to tell if the battery life is better or worse, it was just a feeling, I need a couple of another days to tell exactly

Labs provides no actual new optimizations, everything that it accomplishes can already be done with the Android system as it exists now
Only releases so far
Can I install a TPA (Panama) rom on my ZTO (Brazil) device without any issue?
After two days I can say that battery life has improved, especially the Standby Drain, a slight improvement but adding that to the already good battery performance is even better.
The responsiveness of the system has improved too, it feels faster, and smoother. Transition animations look cool.
The update isn't major, but is a step forward

Id say mine has taken a step back from how it feels but cant be certain. I have been using my phone a lot BUT I have never needed to charge it before I get home unlike yesterday and today I got home with 15% battery when normally it was 35-40%.
And this exactly is my concern, these major updates always result in a mixed bag of experiences, some good, some barely perceptible, and some really bad

We all love to rag on Touchwiz for being a bloated lag beast and pray for the day we can flash CM to get rid of it. However, there is a way to compare stock Touchwiz vs stock Android on two devices with exactly the same hardware specs and surprisingly, the difference is not that significant.
The takeaway is that Touchwiz seems faster loading video while stock Android is faster loading web content - I have a theory for this based upon how Touchwiz parses javascript, but that's another thread . On a benchmark basis the two are within a few hundred points of each other.
Anyway, here is an interesting video of a guy testing the S4 Play Edition (pure Android) vs the S4 Touchwiz Edition, both all stock and brand new with no rom optimizations or debloating. It's interesting and shows that while stock Android may be a bit faster overall, the difference is far less than one might have imagined. Of course the results may be different on the Tab S.
Nice, but surprising report. Guess the skeptics will need something else to complain about.

If only those 2 models were comparing Exynos vs Snapdragon.....then we would have a better understanding.
But I can say for sure, in daily use, Touchwiz is noticeably slower than stock.

The thread is about TOUCHWIZ Vs ANDROID not Exynos vs Snapdragon. In this test anyway there doesn't appear to be much difference between the 2 running on the same platform. YMMV.
Apparently, Kitkat 4.4 introduced aggressive cpu throttling at much lower temps than prior Android versions. This may be something that is causing slowdowns you have perceived with prolonged use. While this increases battery life, it crushes performance. Fortunately a good kernel should be able to address this. In this case the hardware is fine, it is the OS which is screwing things up. I guess Google saw that people care more about battery life than blazing performance.
Anyway, here is the article. Interesting.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/sa...at-performance-cpu-throttling-dvfs,26414.html
Again this is for the S4. Not sure how it applies to the Tab S.
Here is a thread by a dev who was able to disable the DVFS throttling on the s4. He claims that is to blame and not KitKat directly. Will research to see if thee is anything similar for the Tab S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674928
Ok, I see that using Wanam Xposed you can disable Samsung DVFS in Advanced Settings. No idea if this works on our Tab S but I disabled it and nothing seemed to break on reboot. This should not increase benchmarks, just stop excessive throttling. One would guess you will see better performance and worse battery life.
We'll see.

Hi Mitchell, did the battery life turn out worse?
Still deciding whether to root my tab our not (root loses a tv streaming program in belgian which is quite handy)
All I have to say is load up my alpha rom and see for yourself. It's like the difference between a tablet that came out this month (CM) and a tablet that came out three years ago (TW) performance wise.
I've gone from thinking about selling it to wondering how many years its going to be before they can produce a tablet that makes me want to upgrade.

Yes and this is one reason why I get sick of people moaning about battery life all the time. It's a mobile device constrained by current technology and what size battery can be squeezed in.
Yet people still expect 3 days battery, super duper speed and a nice slim light device.
For me I accept the limited capabilities of a battery in a mobile device and think they do a pretty good job as it is.
I want a mix of performance and battery, but I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of battery life for a lag free , smooth device.
However the more people moan about battery life the more the scales will tip to battery life at the cost of performance.
I would be willing to except a tablet a mm thicker to have a bigger battery

Nope.. How is your SoT? How much power does Android system consume? Mine is 403mAh after 4h SoT. As I can see it is not ridiculous high.

I have no interest in doing any such maintenance things. Which is a strange thing to be saying on these boards, I know
I started having issues with the OS using an unusually high amount of power a week ago. I was using EX kernel and manager. I didn't change anything, but I don't morning my phone was noticeably warm and the battery was draining very quickly. I tried a few different OOS based rom/kernel combinations. Anytime I install a custom kernel or even any apps that provide kernel tweaking options (even if I never open them), the issues return. The small cores rarely dip below 1190 MHz and the big cores stay at 1478mhz or higher. It sleeps normally when the screen is off. The only way to get lower speeds with screen on is to set max lower than that, then they just stay maxed out and everything lags. I tried with fresh installs and even went back to ext4. It's strange, as I'd been using the same Experience rom/EX kernel setup for quite some time when the issue arose. Now I'm still on Experience, but with stock kernel and no tweaking apps, and I'm back to 5+hrs SOT.

You expect aunts and uncles and mother and fathers to mess with wiping cache in their phones?
That's insane.
OP3 have themselves said "flagship killer" which means it0s intended for the same audience as GS7 and such phones. So no friking tinkering. it has to just work.
That being said, i'm still happy with my OP3 and Nougat overall. But battery life is somewhat worse.

I don't think it's insane. I know a lot of technologically capable older folk. They're definitely the minority xD but seriously, that does not change the fact you came on here, complained about batt life, see things that could improve it that are extremely simple, but won't do it. Leave the aunts and uncles out of you not wanting to do maintenance.
In my experience, I've seen every single phone had problems iPhones every generation, flagship Samsung DEFINITELY, ZTE, etc. I don't think any phone automatically "just works." At the same time, while my note 4 was running at an ambient temperature of 60°C on a daily basis, I've had friends who have faced identical problems and never had their phone get hot. No phone is perfect.
My mom jailbroke our iPhone 3 and 4. When we went to Android, she knew how root and remove bloatware a full year before i did. She's a City bus driver. So i don't think counting out my elders is quite fair. I was introduced to OnePlus by someone well over 55. Back when it was the invite system lol.
These experiences may or may not be considered anecdotal, but i am very happy to hear you still enjoy your OnePlus 3 man.
Hey folks. I'm sharing something nice i've been using for a week that I am very happy with.
First of all, I'm a humble guy and I'm not into coding like many respectable members from here are.
Since I changed to Los based ROM ( ressurection remix + dragonxia kernel- thanks to pappschlumpf, the only complaint I had was the battery. With MIUI ROMs battery used to last a lot ( at costs of performance and limited multitasking, I must say), and this was a nice Thing
After googling a little bit, I found out on XDA another thread belonging to people who uses the OP3 smartphone. On that thread they've created a project called AKT that states for advanced kernel tweaks.
So thing is, those tweaks were first released for snapdragon 820 processor, but latest versions supports tweaks on our Chipset (snapdragon 821). Using the instructions on the thread I was able to get a good battery with consistent performance ( need more time to quantify - I'm using zana balanced profile), much better comparing to stock settings. Its also good to remember that not all settings are applied because of the limitations of the kernel..
So here is the link:
:cyclops:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/advanced-interactive-governor-tweaks-t3476589
Hope it helps you if you were having the same problems as I was, any other suggestions are also welcome

I agree with you my friend, and I think the more suitable world to describe it would be "better"
Since this is the first week im using AKT, im running some tests and varying many of the profiles on my daily smartphone use, so my battery levels aren't consistent to a fixed kind of profile
Anyway, As other user said, if you are on a LOS ROM you will notice how battery drain is very high. If you try it you will see the difference, and I think it's worth trying since it's free..
Here are some screens of my battery life. Used battery (ZHANA)profile in akt app. And 15% performance profile to play mupen64 games.
So u see batterylife is amazing in my opinion. And still have 20% left
I think the phone would make 18Hours battery with one charge.

Hey, I got it and I agree with you, the best battery of this device is from MM MIUI.. But still you are keeping notifications not delivering properly and keeping GPS OFF.
Its a personal taste of course, but On LOS ROMS this phone is almost perfect, as another user mentioned here. On MIUI I had many problems about my notifications ( I didn't receive them without a significant delay) and with multitasking options, even disabling the tweaks to save battery.
Not to mention that MIUI is not customizable as LOS..
As I agree with the other user, this phone is a BEAST with LOS ROMS..
The only problem with LOS roms I had was the battery and the camera ( yea the camera has a better consistence on point-and-shoot mode on miui).
With this mod, battery is very good and acceptable, WITH GPS ON AND LTE ON AS WELL. For me, so far, it's lasting more than 12 hours with around 3:30 sot, LTE on and GPS on, and that's great
I think we'll have the best battery and performance when xiaomi releases official release nougat for our device

Konstantine, everyone understand that the battery is BETTER on MIUI ROMS. No discussion about it. What I'm talking about is a good battery that can last a Day with GPS, LTE on all the time, with no battery saving apps ( or background data restrictions), ON LOS roms. LOS ROMS .
If you use it on miui, I really don't know the results, but I think the battery WONT BE BETTER THAN IT ALREADY IS on miui Roms ( most specifically epic rom), if you use this mod
So, If you ever plan to try LOS roms, give this mod a try, it's nice.

Just wasn't a fan of the stock EMUI and then there wasn't much in the world of roms or kernels. I mean project treble was nice, I loved the havoc rom as it ran smooth and had some nice customization. It just didnt have the notch figured out yet or some other P20 pro specifics fingerprint etc. I wasn't blown away by the battery by any stretch even since, day one. The camera was however quite impressive, the night mode especially and great portraits. Soon as I got my hands on this pixel though, fell in love and not sure why it just, its just a nice device haha.

Try rooting and using Flash Kernel. Insane battery life.

Will try that not before heading out for work, I just can tell by a few small features on the device that its not spring chicken so my assumption is its at least a year plus old.
*** Edit
So after literally download and flashing that kernel, typing just this edit using my phone I'm down 3%. Maybe it takes a bit to optimize I'm not really sure. I will say it does at least last me an entire day! (On the Stock kernel I mean)

You're Pixel 2XL can't be a year plus old. They we're announced October 4th of last year, so they weren't available even a year ago.

Oh well then lol, I guess I'm the idiot!
Just seems weird the battery drain is incredible. Maybe my expectations are simply just high, either way very pleased with the device

You're not an idiot. Well, I don't know I've never met you IRL. You could be, I guess, LOL.
Seriously, though, not doubting your bad battery life. It's likely a rogue app. Or maybe really poor radio signal so your phone is constantly polling for a stronger signal.
You could always try running in safe mode, which disables all 3rd party apps. If battery life improves, then you know it's an app causing the drain.
If that doesn't work, try running in airplane mode. This will always increase battery life, but if it takes care of your abnormal drain, then you know it's related to signal strength.
All else fails, do a factory reset, don't restore anything, and run it for a while with no 3rd party apps.
If that fails to fix it, it could simply be a hardware issue. Its an electronic device. They fail and do funky things sometimes. You could always call Google and see if they will RMA it for a bad battery. Or if you have a UBreakIFix store near you, go talk to them. They are a Google partner and the one here in town is very knowledgeable.

Haha that's awesome. That's actually quite useful information though I really appreciate that! I will try out those, I'm actually not running much aside from stock but I'll see what happens. Thanks again!

The battery life on the Pixel 2 XL should be better than that to be honest. Especially if you have Android Pie. Let me know how it goes? What is your SOT?

On my Pixel 2 XL i get about 2.5 hrs SOT with 70% remaining.
Heres a screenshot I guess that's not awful it's just seems like heavy drain when using it. I think I'm just being picky
I have replaced my 2xl display because it was shattered. I tried to replicate the original waterproofing sealing by using the black liquid adhesive.
That looks just about right. Both "full charge lasts about" and the SOT. At least that's what I get typically with my use.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Just received the 5.1 update on US unlocked S21FE. Still exploring changes.
There's been reports of the 5.1 update causing issues on other Samsung devices.
If anyone experiences an issue on the S21 FE, please let us all know.
Bad battery life (8 hours to 6 hours)
Not including object select/crop
Not many changes thats all

From the latest update my battery life went from 8 SOT to max 6 too.
Yeah, battery life has taken a hit with the 5.1 update. Doesn't inspire confidence throughout the day.
with CSC SEK still waiting for this battery massacre
Been with One UI 5.1 since approx 2 weeks, better battery life for me in idle, a bit less in use but nothing bad.
My speaker seems horrible, sound is not as loud as before and less clear, it's like old gen phone. Or it's just me. But nothing has changed significantly in this release.
Sound quality has gone bonkers. Can't hear anything after update. Speakers are useless now.

If you want a parch issued for that, your best bet is to report the problem in the Samsung members app.
