Poor Signal on Lenovo P2 - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I got a second hand lenonvo P2 P2A42 (it is not a rebadged P2A72) and the signal BOTH in 4G/LTE and in audio call is much weaker than the other Lenovo P2 I have. (mine and my father one).
Note that wifi signal is normal.
I already flashed it back and forth Lineage 16 and also back to MM6 stock
Do you know what part contains the antenna ? is it the back cover or little the usb charge/viber/speaker board ? should I change the coaxial cable first ?
What can be the cause of the issue ? I don't think the phone got repaired, but it might have add some water or humidity ?
Are there some stuff I can do to try to improve things...
thanks.

[Q] poor wifi signal.

I am facing a weak wifi problem since I bought it, it was refurbished and it had android 2.3 and htc sense 3.0. i updated it with 4.2.2 r11 .
The problem is that when i sit with the router then it only get full signal, if i move even 2,3 steps signal drops and after 5 meters there is no signals.. laptop and other mobile works fine with the same router so no problem with the router.. so is it the battery cover problem or IC is weak??
i have tried one thing and it even works but it is not a proper solution.. what I did is I connected a small wire with the terminal of wifi which is under batter cover and it is so thin that it easily came out of battery cover.. it increased wifi signal power.. so any one knows what could be the problem be? THANKS IN ADVANCE..
Could be a multitude of things.

N7100 overheating with wifi dropout - hardware problem

I did a search and most of the Wifi problems seem to describe knox security and bootloader issues.
Here, I wish to describe/discuss what seems to be a hardware problem in my n7100 note 2.
This occurs with stock and dr. ketan rom on 4.4.2 even with wifipatch applied (technically not needed).
OS 4.4.2
boot loader: n7100ZSUFNL1 (I believe this bootloader should be ok - correct me if I'm wrong).
model GT-n7100
ISSUE
- the wifi icon doesn't turn on or wifi drops out when the system is running hot. This happened the first time after I flashed a ROM/upgraded and I thought it was a ROM issue.
- however, more recently, I have managed to keep the wifi signal absolutely stable when i open up the back cover and run a fan blowing on the back/cpu area at the top back of the phone around the camera area.
- with fan cooling => completely stable
- without fan cooling => drops out when system under load or randomly.
for some reason, omega rom had a problem for me where it kept disconnecting irrespective of the heat
I have seen discussions of our phone overheating but this seems to be a hardware problem with the wifi module.
I presume that there may be micro fractures with the wifi chip solder (seems to be a theme in electronics) that may be causing wifi problems with overheating.
This happened with an iphone 4 voice audio processing chip once for me and the "online community" had figured out a fix by taping in a "pressure mount" for the chip.
//blog.lovefone.co.uk/iphone-4-faulty-microphone-audio-chip-problem
Any suggestions on taping in a heatsink or pressure against the wifi module?
Help would be appreciated. Just adding to the knowledgebase in the community.
When Samsung adopted RoHS some range of devices plagued with badly soldered BroadCom chips. I personally know one S3 and two Note 2 (one is mine own) with all the same problem: no WiFi from time to time and likely no BT too.
I paid ~100 euros to change the main board with BC chip guaranteed working about half a year ago.
Thanks for the quick reply and confirmation.
After ordering a new midframe; playing around with screws and disassembling it a few times; it does feel like a solder joint/connection issue.
I haven't heard much feedback from the net on this problem which is why i raised it.
Others on the net have mentioned loosening the screws securing the motherboard down. I will try that as well but I presume that with a loose solder joint; overtightened screws may warp the motherboard just enough for the connection to flake out.
THanks again.
PS - if anyone else has the same problem/suspicion; please chime in.
So, in follow up.
Adding aluminum tape to the wifi chip didn't seem to work. I took it off and reseated the midframe where the antenna is located.
Still was getting dropped wifi.
Disassembled; took a small screwdriver and gently lifted the wifi contacts from the motherboard up so that it makes better contact with the midframe.
Seemed to help.
It's definitely hardware. Whether it's a problem with the WIFI chip or with the antenna; i don't know but it's somewhere along that line.

Brutal signal attenuation on D855

Hi there!
Several weeks ago and after a fall to the floor, my loved D855 is unable to make standard phone calls. So, it has LTE signal but when you are about to call (or receive a call) it tries to switch to GSM/UMTS network (as my phone company does'nt offer VoLTE) and is in this moment when signal is dropped (and call is not even started).
After a bit of investigation, resetting it, rooting it, flashing LineageOS (BTW i Love it)... behavior continues and I've realized that phone has a general signal attenuation (regarding only to mobile networks), because wifi signal is OK. I can only make standard calls when I am 100 meter LOS a base station...
I spent about 30$ in antenna replacements (PCB Antenna, Upper antenna, Lower antenna ) and also I bought the coaxial cable that goes from upper PCB to lower): Without success
So, I can use it only as a "tablet" without phone functions, and only 4G when there is "good" coverage. When there is bad coverage (a normal phone would show a 50% signal) my D855 loses total coverage.
May be a hardware problem?
It's a pity to buy a new one when a newer phone will have similar specs (new LG G6 will have 4/32Gb while mine has 3/32Gb) and still runs very smoothly (even more with Lineage OS)...
Thanks!

Wifi Bluetooth Antenna problem with connection

Hey guys,
I have a problem with my OP3. I dropped it and it had a big dent on the back. So I decided to open it an try to press the dent back into shape.
After reassembling my Wifi and bluetooth are broken. I can get connections but the range is realy bad, about 5m for Wifi till it disconnects and about 5cm for Bluetooth.
I opened it a second time to take a look if i missed a connector or something and i saw a clip (those small things that connect to the back of the phone) was broken so i ordered a sparepart (it was the headphonejack circuit board) and changed it but its still not working.
Does anyone know where the bluetooth and wifi antenna are positioned ?
Have i just broke my phone or can i change something to get it back to work ? Everything else is working fine.
Thanks in advanced
Dennis
Same problem here! After I replaced the screen I lost my WiFi and bluetooth connections as well. WiFi is working in a range within 2m.
Is changing the coax antenna cable a solution?
Many thanks in advance from me as wel
Ken
Glad I'm not the only one, so maybe we get more help when more people have the same problem.
I changed the backplate cause of the dent and because the antenna is built in there but didn't change anything.
I have ordered a coax cable and will replace it when it arrives, could be today. Will post afterwards if this helped, but I'm not realy confident in that because i haven't done anything with this cable while repairing.
Maybe someone knows more about this, i just don't get why it is working but has no range, makes no sense to me ...
I have opened my phone several times now, but nothing seems to work.
Do you have an update on the coax cable yet? I hope it works, or the one plus 5 has to hurry ?
Hey there, same for me, opened it up to 10 times now but nothing helped, coax cable was a failure too. I realy don't know what it could be.
I'm about to wait for the OP5 or get a used 3(T) depending on what the . Was thinking about getting one with cracked screen and change everything but not sure if i should try it.
I have the same problem now. Any updates?
Hi guys! Yesterday I changed the camera of my OnePlus 3 because it wasn't focusing anymore, after reassembling my phone I noticed it wasn't connecting to the wifi anymore, tried Bluetooth and it was the same problem... I had to be really close for it to connect
Did any of you had any luck solving this problem? Did changing the board in the bottom of the phone not solve it? It seems that's where the WiFi is... Or maybe changing the backplate
Thanks in advance!

Anyone found a solution? I had the same problem when I replaced the fingerprint sensor + the battery
I've been without wifi for 4 months now... Any help is appreciated
Hi, guys. I have the same problem. Did anyone find a solution?
I replaced my rear camera and the loudspeaker, at reboot wifi was not working. I noticed that if I'm near the access point network is detected but with very poor signal strength. Thanks.
Hi, maybe I could have found a possible reason to our lack of wifi and bluetooth signal.
Please look at this thread and give me your opinion. Probably your mainboard shows the same problem.

Poor wifi signal issue

Hi all!
I would like to know if anyone here has noticed if their Mi5s has a poor wifi signal strength compared to other phones they had.
I've used a Samsung Galaxy 5 NEO as comparison. While the samsung brings me nearly full speed at a distance of 10-15 meters from the wifi device, the mi5s just brings me 1 or almost zero if I move just 3 meters far.
There's something I did that maybe has broken the wifi signal. I had an accident where some coffee was spilled in the phone, and I had to unassemble it to clean the speaker that wasn't working properly. I just cleaned the speaker module (it can be deattached) carefully with little water and it started it to work good again. But not sure if it was because the unassemble but I noticed that the wifi signal was pretty poor comparing other phones.
I'm starting to think in changing the rom now with all the kernel hype and I would like to know if I'm the only one, because if it is that case, I'm probably going to unassemble it again (not a easy task) and recheck if I missed to connect something, but if I remember correctly, the wifi antenna is nothing more that just a metal part attached to the board.
So. Am I the only one who noticed this or just my xiaomi is broken?
many thanks!
Mi 5S have good Wi-Fi module, at least better than Samsung Galaxy S6. I think that your problem is connected with that accident. Metal can oxidize when the water touches it. I think that you have something like this with your Wi-Fi module connection.
