How can I Factory Reset while rooted without bricking - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

So I stupidly tried to upgrade to the Pixel 4 Launcher before the official Dec update came and even after trying to uninstall/reinstall the .apk and downgrade etc, I still can't get the launcher to be remotely usable without the error popups if I have gestures on. So I am resorting to factory resetting and just starting from scratch.
I feel extremely dumb asking this as I've been rooting/customizing my phones since the G1, but about 6 months ago I had to send in a phone for RMA and when I factory reset it, wiped the OS and the bootloader was locked, so I am making sure I don't do that this time as I'm now out of warranty.
What is the process of factory resetting when I am rooted with Magisk and have the bootloader unlocked? I don't have a custom rom, just stock Android and I do not have TWRP installed. I feel like it's as simple as just going into Settings and hitting Factory Reset in Reset Options, but I can't remember if I did that or something else when I bricked the RMA phone and want to make sure.
Again, sorry for the completely stupid question, just trying to cover the bases. Thanks in advance!

It's like you said, go to settings and factory reset. Or, go to stock recovery and do it from there :good:

How to Get Back to Original Factory Setting

Hi All,
I am currently unlocked, rooted, and recovery installed. Can I just use the regular hard reset from the settings menu? I would like to know how to get the phone back to the stock factory condition. Not planning on returning, but I just got this really bad habit of wanting to start fresh from time to time. Thanks in advance!!

[Q] sgs3 with android 4.3 problems. Help!!!

okay so I have a samsung galaxy s3, I updated to Android 4.3 through AT&T and my phone has been giving me problems ever since. could someone please tell me what options do I have to fix this thing? Right now I have downloads that keep coming in that have been completed months ago and my LED flash also comes on when my phone rings. I havent done any flashing or rooting since about 2 years ago with my AT&T Tilt 2. I just felt like this phone didnt need it. I've read some other articles that say if you try to root an AT&T SGS3 that it will brick after this cripling update to android 4.3. But it's just fine to do it wit other carrier smartphones. It doesnt seem like there are any fixes on the horizon, so I feel like i need to take matters into my own hands. Please help.
I'm assuming you already tried a factory reset? But as far as rooting though I don't think it's possible currently if you did the ota update. Whatever you do don't try to Odin back though, you'll hard brick.

I'm not sure if i've tried a factory reset. The only reset i've done is the option they give you when you hold the button on the upper right hand side of the phone. Where is the factory resetet option? Also, should I backup my information before I do this factory reset.

boot into recovery to clear the cache first and then try a factory reset if that does not work.
I have read of this continual download bug, but do not have it myself
If you can connect to KIES, you can back stuff up easily , but I'd just backup contacts and stuff and reinstall the apps. Yes, a factory reset will wipe your apps and contacts, but it should leave your pics in the card and in the phone alone.. back em up just in case.

[Q] How do I restore my LG Optimus G pro to stock?

I know I can do a factory reset on the phone itself, but can I do a factory reset just like you could on an iPhone (you know, download the software and restore it on your phone)?
Also, are there any risks of rooting it? I'm kind of new here so just bear with me.

To factory reset, go into setting, storage, and factory reset. After that, your phone should be the same as the first time you installed what ever rom you're using. As for root goes, the biggest dilemma I know of is whether or not to void the warranty. So if the device is already gone past the warranty coverage time, then go ahead, get towelroot.apk and root that sucker. It's easy and fast..

Installing Custom ROM after "Abnormal Factory Reset"

I have an old Verizon Note 4 that I'd like to give to my wife's bed ridden grandmother. She could really use something to pass the time and talk with friends.
I wiped the phone to remove all my old stuff. I rebooted into recovery mode, wiped the cache partition and did a factory reset. When I rebooted and started to configure the phone it gave the message:
"The phone is locked because of an abnormal factory reset. Sign in to the Samsung account that was previously used on this phone to confirm that it belongs to you."
I never had a Samsung account, and I don't want to start now. I think the best course of action is to install a custom ROM. I dislike all the Samsung bloatware anyhow.
But I can't boot this phone because I can't get past this "abnormal factory reset" screen (presumably it's an anti-theft thing?). How can I install a custom ROM on this phone? Everything I've read says that I already need to have root before installing the ROM, which seems impossible since I can no longer have access to this phone's OS.
How can I proceed?
Dou you have TWRP? If not, make Odin Download Mode, put Rom Stock, and try again... root/unlock bootload/Twrp/customrom, etc

Pixel xl phone app unresponsive 9.0

Hi, I'm aware that several people have issues with the new pie rom.
Unfortunately, I have a problem that I haven't seen before on the forum:
It takes like a full 5 sec to call somebody and the same to end it.
It's very frustrating because I never know how to react in this situation (did he heard? Etc...)
I don't want to factory reset and I got everything stock.
Anyone has an idea on how to fix this?
Can I wipe cache with the stock recovery? Maybe install an other phone app?
Thx
i am having issues in pie as well. i cant seem to transfer large files to the phone.doing so makes the phone restarts. i tried it 5 times or so. fhis update is not good
Only way to clear up issues is a clean factory image install if this was not done to begin with.
OK thanks...
Though I blindfully hope someone will be get some alternative has I don't want do execute such extreme solution

It's actually relatively painless. Apps restore automatically when you go through setup, calls and texts are restored, as well as system settings and WiFi networks. Takes me ~30 mins total, and maybe 5 of that is actually looking at the phone, the rest is letting it sync and restore backups automatically.
I was thinking about it doing a factory reset once the final came out but I've heard stories from fellow moviepass owners that are unable to use the app when switching phones. That would make a valid concern for factory resets as well. Not because of lag but I have noticed battery seems worse after the upgrade and wanted to factory reset to rule out. As I ran all the ota betas of pie a factory reset isn't a bad idea anyway.

Your device ID is tied to the app. When you factory reset and reinstall the app your device ID is reset. You can root using Magisk and then install Titanium Backup to backup the app and data, this will preserve the ID. i had to do this when switching ROMS.
