Has anyone attempted to get call screening to work with the Google Dialer phone app? I really miss that feature!
I followed the instructions listed here (for the OnePlus 7 Pro), but I still don't get call screening

I'm rooted with Magisk. There's a Magisk module for converting apps into system apps.
This doesn't work on Google Phone versions higher than 39 on non-pixel phones afaik. I've tried.
i had this working on oneplus 7 pro but oneplus 7t can systemise app but no phenotype flags file at all

Hey I was just going through the Google phone app forum and saw you have the tmo branded Moto z2 also, my question is are you using the stock dialer and if it is possible to get Google phone apk that is signed by Google and not that other person. Other question is how do I re enable my RCS service as TMO will be launching universal RCS soon. Thank you in advance for any kind of information. @skywalker-live

To get the Google phone app from the play store I'm using a magisk module from the repo (yes the module says for OP 5/5T but it does work).
As far as rcs services my understanding is that is replacing sms and would be covered with the Google messages app. How did you disable your rcs services? I didn't know there was away to disable it, just that we're waiting for tmo to enable their end for the support.

That thread is old, the "bug" with texting was fixed with the 26.7 nougat firmware update. Then reappeared in 27.0 Oreo update and was fixed with the current firmware 27.1 Oreo. Twards the end of that thread is the suggestion to use Android messages, which works great for me both back on nougat and now on Oreo I didn't have to make and modifications to my device for that.
Also that thread makes it sound like TMobile is already using rcs, the problem is it's their own profile instead of the universal one that is being promised.
Magisk is a root manger that can also make modifications to the system without actually touching the system partition.
70-90% of what is found on xda is dependent on being rooted. This phone (motorola) requires breaking the Motorola warranty to unlock the bootloader to be able to root. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device.
Having a rooted phone is a great responsibility to read everything about what you do to it and understanding the risks involved, knowing how to fix it before doing the modification. Also keeping everything straight between current and old methods, things can change in a matter of weeks. Developers sometimes change phones every 6 months.

OnePlus has switched to Google Dialer and Messages apps since OOS11. On OOS11 you could still download and install the .apk for the OnePlus Dialer and Messages and use them instead of the "stock" Google ones. I don't know if it still works in OOS12, but you can try it. There are links to the final versions in this post. Just keep in mind the OP apps are not supported anymore and will eventually quit working, so you'll have to adjust to Google at some point, or use another third party app.
I've been searching all over the internet for a way to make Google Recorder's transcript work after an audio recording has been made but haven't found anything, it also seems like the latest post about this issue was in 2021 while most of them were in 2019.
I've read that the fact that recording works but transcriptions aren’t visible after saving is due to OnePlus devices running software with modifications to TextView.
Could anyone be able to elaborate on that matter?
What does this imply exactly?
Does it mean that any OxygenOS based ROM is using some kind of modified library causing issues with the app?
If so, could it be possible to somehow patch/mod or add that unmodified library to the ROM or the app itself? (Maybe using some Magisk/Exposed module?)
If for some reason such a fix wouldn't be feasible, are there any alternatives?
In terms of solution first (changing ROM?)
Or a similar app with equivalent features able to record, transcribe and save a searchable transcript, all while remaining offline.
UPDATE: For whoever it may be of interest, I just found out today a workaround that partially works.
Basically, instead of modifying the Google Recorder app to work on non-Pixel phones, (which worked to some extent but is bound to fall short when: either people that patch the app stop maintaining repos, or Google decides to apply new ways to check something on the device that would also need to be patched...) I took the opposite approach and tried to spoof the device itself for it to be recognized by the app as a Pixel phone.
For that I used the Pixelify Magisk Module:
[MAGISK] Pixelify
Pixelify Magisk Module A magisk module was created to make your android phone close to pixel devices. Current version - 2.2 So Features does this module provide? - Next Generation Assistant - Call Screening - Direct my call - Hold for me - Next...

GitHub - Kingsman44/Pixelify: Magisk module to enables pixel exclusive features and ui
Magisk module to enables pixel exclusive features and ui - GitHub - Kingsman44/Pixelify: Magisk module to enables pixel exclusive features and ui
github.com
And after successfully flashing the module, I am now running the official version 4.2.20230103.502951773 of the Google Recorder app natively without any modifications to it.
Now, the transcription problem seems to still be present for some reason when it comes to viewing it within the app after the recording is saved on the device itself. BUT, since this version of the app allows for online backup and access to the recordings through a Google account on recorder.google.com, you can technically both access and export the transcript from that web page whether you so desire! Whether it's by adding it as a link on your android device with "Add to Home screen" from your web browser of choice, or simply accessing it on your computer.
This workaround should work for any device being able to make use of the Pixelify Magisk Module mentioned earlier, for that I invite you to read their Readme.md page before trying it out in case you're planning on using it on a different device (you should probably read it regardless).

I don't know if you are still having problems with this but after the transcription wouldn't work on my VoidUI rom for the Poco F3 I found your post and after installing pixelify it worked but only after clearing the data of the app. After that it let me download the language package and the app was working perfectly.
Greetings All,
New to this community, running a Moto Z2 Play (albus), with stock Android 8, which was the last update available to me. Here we are 5 years later and the phone is still in amazing condition but I'm having trouble with the PlayStore telling me "this version isn't available for your device", and the older the phone gets the more apps I learn no longer support it. So I learned how to sideload apps (like Microsoft office, OneNote etc) but I figure that the writing is on the wall unless I upgrade Android.
After a quick google search I learn you can root your phone and there is an Android 11 image called Lineage OS 18.1 ... which sounds pretty sweet. BUT after additional searches, I'm reading so many cons about rooting a phone.
What's really at stake? I don't have any warrantee to void, I also figure if I brick the device I was probably going to buy a new phone sooner than later anyways.
Questions: If I install Lineage OS 18.1 successfully...
Will the Play Store and Apps continue to update, or will I stop receiving notifications regarding available updates? Or am I forever stuck with sideloading?
If I don't install G Apps is this bad? I don't use stock Google Apps, I've opted to use the Microsoft equivalent like Outlook for email and calendar... or do I still need to install Google Apps to gain the ability to layer Microsoft products on top?
Why is there so much negative talk about malware infection with rooted phones? If I'm not downloading and installing apps constantly, the risk would still be no more threatening than it is now correct?
I heard that Moto mods stop working, no biggie - I never used any of them anyways (I thought the included LCD Micro projector was cool, but ask me how many times I've actually used it = 0). While discussing moto stuff, would the gestures still work? I do like shake for camera, and the flip upside-down for silencing the ringer but I could learn to live without them.
Would the camera still work? Its probably the only real feature I use that I couldn't live without.
Are there any apps that would realize the phone is rooted and refuse to run? Some searches told me that security apps may not like a rooted phone. Does rooting it affect Microsoft Authenticator app?
I mean what's really at stake? My phone is fighting to be relevant for the few select apps I use (mostly Microsoft stuff) and I don't play games.
It looks like win-win, unless I'm missing something really important.
Thoughts?
Firs of all Flashing a rom doesn't actually count as root but some apps (will refuse to work) will detect an unlocked bootloader or something like that if you install the LineageOS rom

there is also Pixel Experience and Dot OS roms to flash (I already test both) so:
when it comes to Pixel Experience:pros:
Stock "clean" Rom
Android11 so your phone will have access to the apps you said refuse to work on Android8 also the phone will be detected as a Pixel 5 by Google Services.
all Google apps and support out of the box for basically everything you would normally use on a stock phone
somehow with this rom the apps wont/never detect any unlocked bootloader unless you install Magisk
unlock 64-bit and use all 4GB of RAM so it perform just better than stock rom with the same or even slightly better battery performance
MOTO MODS support
Google Camera support out of the Box
cons:
there is basically no cons of using this rom unless you want to root it.
somehow this rom is the most unestable when it comes to install magisk addons and slide load things cuz it can randomly brick/bootlop by just accessing to the custom recovery TWRP. Could also be a fault of my phone but I doubt it..
Dot OS:
pros:There is a GAPPS version of this rom and it basically has all the same pros as Pixel Experience
this is by far the most customizable and beatiful rom when it comes to UI personalization
cons: and also the reason I avoid using it
huge battery drain even on idle whithout GAPPS installed

That is the rom I actually use
Lineage OS wont have installed the Play Store/any Google Play Service/related app.., out of the box but
- you can actually slide load the pico opengapps package just after install the rom using TWRP so:
you will have the same support and features of Google Play services that the Pixel Experience rom has (like streaming to a nearby device, gps auto location, sync accounts/passwords/contacts, find my device, updates notification, install new apps, etc), heck opengapps even add out of the box support for nfc payment
pico version of open gapps will just install the Play Store and no other Google app so LineageOS remains very stock and lightweight.

As I said you can install pico gapps which are a very lightweight version of Google Play services without compromising any feature the stock version has, also the battery drain of picogapps package is barely noticeable comparing it with stock gapps

Magisk(is the only recommended method of rooting these days) is pretty safe, it even has a Github repository. As you said unless your a noob and dont even know what are you installing you can get infected even on a stock phone..

Yes the camera will work normally, if you dont like the camera app LineageOS include you can always install the Gcam (support out of the box if you install opengapps)

Sadly Google Play services will detect LineageOS as a rooted rom even if you dont root it so any bank app, streaming apps like Netflix, CrunchyRoll, etc., won´t work.
Though Microsoft app will work even if you dont have gapps installed (except lite versions) and I think Microsoft apps dont detect root and even if they do you can easily bypass that by using Magisk deny list. As for Microsoft Au I confirmed it does not detect root

Yes, is a win-win, specially because LineageOS have the best battery performance of the three roms I listed before and you can make it more efficiente by installing the Stratosphere addon for Magisk by CRANKV2
Just rooted my Pixel 6 pro and was trying to find a way to get unlimited Google Photos storage but none of the methods I used before work on this device. Does anyone know how I can get the unlimited storage (or if it's even possible).
* I tried the props editor method which did not work as the props that I needed to edit did not exist (or maybe its different)
* The other method where you place a nexus file in the root directory was not possible as the root directory was full, even after deleting some system apps.
UPDATE - The pixelify magisk module is the solution (thanks taanh1412 !)

Also I cannot live without the facial grouping now, it's way too useful

Magic Eraser is available with Google One subscription on all devices (including non-Pixels). No need for anything else.
Unlimited Original Quality backup is available ONLY on Pixel 1 (the 1st Pixel). The others until Pixel 5 get unlimited storage at 'Storage Saver' quality.

You are right. I had to wait few hours and the Magic Eraser appeared in the "Tools" section. On the other hand there is no "Unlbur" so, the former must be related wit Google One subscription, as spoofing as Pixel 1 gives unlimited backup but as a trade off disables newer Pixels features.
