maybe Ijusst didnt look hard enough for the answer, but I didnt find it. Ever since the last update whenever I say "hi bixby" nothing happens. bixby is set up and the wake up gesture is on.
also the music control widget doesnt connect to the phone anymore. it used to let me control pandora on my phone but not anymore.

I'm relatively new to the phone, so it maybe somethign I'm doing wrong however I'll explain incase there's something amiss.
I recently installed SPB Time, mostly because despite what I did, the inbuilt alarm on the phone wouldn't repeat (it takes a bomb to wake me up, so I need something loud and long to get me up!).
The SPB Time works great, has a very annoying ring on it, however it just won't go off unless I press the standby button on the right hand side of the phone.
This morning as an example, I awoke at 05:45, the alarm was due to go off at 06:00. I thought I'd wait to see what happened. Sure enough, 06:00 came and went, picked up the phone, pressed the standby button and the alarm went off!
Any ideas what could be wrong. Am I doing something wrong?
You need to let the phone disable itself.
When you press the right "close" button to disable your screen the alarm won't go off.

Yep, thats what I thought. However last night I deliberatly let the phone disable itself and it still didnt work. I can literally sit here at my desk, set the alarm for the next 5 minutes, let the phone disable itself and the alarm wont go off. As soon as I press the standby button, off it goes.
Software or hardware related? Im at a loss to be honest.
i had the same probleme
and the solution is simple !
you need to instal spb clock in internal memoty and not in storage
and it's ok
for sure it take 4mo but you had to choose
regards
Hate to say it, but I've tried that and it's still the same.
It's an old version, so wonder if the new version has the same problems.
I've got SPB Time and it works fine. There is an option in the alarm page for "enable wakeup tweak" make sure that's ticked...
Get the latest version,,, 2.1.4 build 947.
If you have SPB Time 2.x.x then you should be able to use your serial code in the latest versions...
(Works for me fine if installed in storage card too btw...)
Hi,
I've had my M9 for a couple of weeks now, and slowly getting it to work how I want it to. One thing nagging me is this weird issue I have with waking the device from sleep.
I have tried to disable all the gesture/smart wake features (double tap the screen, etc). The issue I'm having seems to relate to the light and/or proximity sensor. It seems (and I haven't been able to find any info on this, online or on the phone) that there is a feature which will enable the device to wake up when being picked up or taken out of my pocket. This doesn't always work, but sometimes it does. When I pull my phone from my pocket, it will sometimes wake up. When I glide my finger over the front camera & light sensor, it will sometimes wake up. This is a minor annoyance, as I would like to only be able to wake my device by hitting the power button.
It gets really annoying when these 'gesture' wakes start to interfere with the power button wake. For example (and this is happening more often than not), when I pull my phone out of my pocket, the phone is off, then I hit the power button once, and the phone still doesn't wake. Hitting the power button a second time will wake the device. It seems to me that the smart waking is some how interfering with the manual waking.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?
Any suggestions for a solution?
Thanks a lot for any help.
This is really odd considering the M9 doesn't support air gestures. Sorry, I have no solution, but is it possible you may have installed an app that may be causing this?
I would think two button push would be the normal, otherwise you could accidentally hit it once and turn the screen on. Do you have Ambient display and pocket detection all turned off ?
Gravity Screen in the play store gives you total control of all that stuff
That for the replies guys.
Clsa, there is no way to disable ambient display & pocket detect because those features do not exist on the M9 (at least... Not that I have found). That's what is bugging me.
I don't think the 2 button press is normal. I've never had to do it on previous phones.
Fernand - not sure if it is another app causing it. I think I have no extra apps installed compared to my last phone.
I just tried Gravity Screen, and it seems to just give me the ability to enable all the features I want to disable.
Any other suggestions?

Settings / Display & Gestures / Ambient display (Wake screen when device is picked up or notifications arrive)
Pocket Detection is part of some Rom Tweaks (insertcoin & viperOne if i remember right)
Hi again, that option is not available on my phone. Do you see it on your M9?
I don't have a custom ROM. Not rooted either.

Yes I have it, but I'm on LeeDroid right now. He adds so much stuff i forget whats "custom" and whats stock
Got the same issue
The power button will ignore the first push while standing by for a long time. Thought it might be caused by apps like greentify?
Hi Ducati, is that a fact or is that just how you understand it? Seems strange that that would be intentional. But it definitely seems to be the case.
I do not have greenify installed either.
Do you get similar behaviour on your One?
After a bit more testing. I can confirm that there are some sort of air gestures on this device. I can wave my finger in front of the front light sensor/camera, and the device will wake.
This doesn't happen all the time, I am not always able to reproduce this. But right now, it is happening. Can anyone else reproduce this?

I have the same issue on my M9. Glad I found this thread. Thought my power button was defective.
I can't activate any gestures by waving my hand.
I think it's happening mostly when waking from deep sleep.
I know it's an old thread, but I just installed CyanogenMod 12.1 and I guess my google-fu is rusty. I find that if I hit the power button in quick succession (double click) it turns off the phone. Anyone know how I can stop this?
By quick succession I mean multiple times within 20 seconds
I am a long time user of Daydream mode, now renamed to Screen Saver, on my phones with a USB charging desk dock. It is very useful as a desk clock.
Prior to Oreo the screen would wake up when a phone call comes in. Now it turns the screen off and I can't see who is calling before answering unless I take it off the dock and tap the power button.
I have had to tweak some stay awake and power options for other apps to work the way I want them to, but haven't found anything to fix this yet. I have tried the stock Clock app as well as a few from the Play Store, but no difference. Has anyone figured this out or is it a bug in Oreo?
Bumping this up in hopes that someone has figured this out. With Tasker, I have been able to wake my phone up to the lock screen, but not the incoming call screen, so I still can't see who's calling. I'll post this in the Tasker section as well, in case someone there has a fix.
Most of all notifications dont work or pop up unless i bring phone from lock or screen off. i have looked into alot of things but still it doesnt work right and with this issue even the tile doesnt work. i think gmail and phone and texts but thats about it. also im not sure if its due to pie or these newer phones.
Do you mean, when a notification comes in, the screen stays off and does not show the notification pop-up? Like what Apple iOS or BlackBerry 10 does?
Do you still hear the notification sound (if you have one set)?
Does the notification LED at least blink (again, if it's set for that)?
By design, Android doesn't turn the screen on. Not sure if it ever woke the screen up for notifications. Maybe some OEM UIs did that, but Samsung doesn't.
Look up "Glimpse Notifications" in the Play Store. That's what I use on my S9. Works great. Also have it on my Fire HD8 tablet.
Nah it's like as if the app isn't running in the background or just doesn't give notifications while screen is off specially with like discord but with tile works with phone unlocked but with screen off.
Okay. That's something I'm not familiar with. Someone else will have to chime in.

I have the exact same problem.
I have to press the power button to see and hear the notification.
I put my Note 10+ on silent at night and it's on vibrate when I'm at work.
When I put it back on sound via the pull down panel, often the notifications do not go back to full sound which is rather annoying.
Is this a known issue?
Personally, I use "Bixby Routines" to set the locations where phone is on silent/vibration and on sound.
The volumes stay as they were when it changes and it works seamlessly.
Like you said, at workwhere I need it silent, it uses GPS to determine where I am and changes to vibrate , when I walk through the door at home it turns all sound back on.
Neat little feature that is hidden on the phone like soooo many awesome things...

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely explore this. I have a lot to learn after 3 years with Huawei.

LOL, it's a new feature exclusive to Note 10/10+...
Tried to install Bixby Routines onto the Note 9 but it fails...
To find little nuggets of information and awesome features, youtube is your friend... 90% you may already know but there are always little surprises there too, like how to send an sms at a certain time even if you don't have your phone with you. Good for espionage... Also you can set a reminder from a received sms to sound at a certain time and the message will show up on the screen again.
Always learning....
I have this same problem. It's rather annoying
I have a similar issue, but, in my case ALL notifications sound, except gmail, I've been trying anything that I could think of to no avail, I finally gave up and made a macro to sound when a gmail arrives, it's just a work around, but works
Same issue when using Volume buttons and Bixby Routine
Please let me know when someone figures this out. It is rather frustrating! So when I use Bixby Routine it knows the location of my workplace and automatically changes my phone to vibrate mode and when I leave work it changes the sound to turn back on. The only issue is that everything goes back to normal (ringtone, media, system, Bixby voice) except for notifications!
Even if I adjust my phone using just the volume buttons instead of the Bixby routine it would change everything to vibrate but when I change it back the notification sound is the only thing that stays silent while everything else goes back to the setting I originally had it at.
Ugh... I already cleared my cache with the physical button I thought it worked but it went back to doing the same thing...
