[Q] can someone tell me how to root HTC Desire which was updated to official 2.3.3

hello frnds,
I recently updated my HTC Desire to the officially released 2.3.3 (gingerbread) firmware. Now i want root my phone so that i can use costume ROM's. So, someone please tell me a way to root my phone.......?
Try revolutionary. Check on their website revolutionary.io
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Revolutionary is the only tool that can get your Desire S-Off. The new update from HTC will NOT unlock bootloader. It is not ment for the Desire. Only Desire Z Wildfire etc etc The Revo tool is confirmed working to get your Desire S-Off for me anyway. Running the Leedroid rom now.
grtz Maverick ®
The bootloader unlock tool by HTC only works on the sensation and EVO 3D

Search. There are already threads on this topic.

Use last revolutionary, I used it and it worked for me perfect.
They currently support for HTC Desire, the following HBOOT versions: 0.93.0001, 1.02.0001
More simple to do it on Linux, since the program is self-contained and not required to install drivers as in Windows.
In Linux you will need to do the following steps:
=================================
1. Download file 'revolutionary-0.4pre4.tgz'
2. Extract 'revolutionary' executable module from 'revolutionary-0.4pre4.tgz' and put into your work directory
3. Connect your Desire via USB cable to machine with Linux
4. Start 'revolutionary' executable module from your work directory:
#./revolutionary
5. Follow the directives of the program and you will get S-OFF and also it will install ClockworkMod Recovery ver. 4.0.1.4.
6. To get root you will need to switch into recovery mode, and from there, to flash manually the file: 'su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip'.
NOTES:
- You will need internet connection, to allow revolutionary program to download & install ClockworkMod Recovery, as discribed above at 5.
Good luck!

Thanks!
Hi!
1. Relock your bootloader via htcdev.com
2. Download latest RUU file for your phones CID.
3. Flash it via PC
4. Root your phone via One X All-in-One program for example.

[Q] Viper ROM on my M8

I really want a good rom on my M8 if I am going to root it. I'm just wondering if I am able to put this rom onto my phone.
Software info:
4.4.3
Sense - 6.0
Software number - 2.22.531.6
SDK API lvl - 6.25
Also if I root it using the all in one toolkit on this forum, will I need to S-Off too in order to install the rom?

Yes you can run the ROM. It would be better to root via adb/fastboot as it is much easier, regardless, you do not need S-Off to run this ROM.

Could you give me a link to something that works to root my phone? I unlocked the bootloader with the toolkit, but when I try to install CWM or TWRP it says no device found.
Try a different USB port fastboot can be a pain and if it says it again type fast boot devices and if it says no permission you have a problem but I've never heard of this on windows only Linux don't know why the HTC boot loader must not like Linux

Unlocking the bootloader resets the phone so you have to enable usb debugging again and adb should find the device if you have the drivers installed.

So I have everything working with viper one installed finally. One issue is my home screen apps are locked, like I can't move them or my widgets. Don't know if this was the ROM or if it is a setting.
Edit: Never mind figured it out lol.

How to upgrade AT&T 2.23.502.3 (Android 4.4.3) to Android 5.x.x (AT&T 4.28.502.2)

How to upgrade AT&T 2.23.502.3 (Android 4.4.3) to Android 5.x.x (AT&T 4.28.502.2)
Hello and thank you in advance.
LONG STORY SHORT
I have a rooted AT&T M8 with unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery and AT&T 2.23.502.3 (Android 4.4.3) build. (I have followed this thread to flash this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-2-23-502-3-bootable-ruu-pc-required-t2860486)
I want to install the latest ViperROM following the links on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705292. THE PROBLEM IS, download link says that:
"The 4.3.0 rom is based on HTC’s latest M8 Sense 6 Android 5.0.1 base and requires you to update your firmware to at least the 5.0.x (Lollipop) version! Else you will run into hiccups, like Wi-FI not working or No Boot and so on…
You need to do that on your own, because we can’t install the firmware for you with the rom installation."

THE QUESTIONS ARE
1- How do you find ViperROM in general and particularly the latest builds?
2- Can I upgrade my firmware to a Android 5.x.x version with a Windows 8 PC by following the instructions and downloading the latest 1,5 GB RUU file on this page: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
3- How do you like the idea in general?
Thank you very much and Cheers!
Not a Viper user myself.
But the RUU you linked is the proper way to update to Lollipop firmware. You will need to relock your bootloader, if its presently unlocked and you are s-on. But you know that, since you've done a previous RUU. RUU will wipe all data on the phone, but again you already know what!

Do I need to lock my bootloader if I'm using the HTC Sync Manager? (AT&T doesn't give me OTA updates so I need to manually download and push to device by using HTC Sync Manager)
OK SOLVED.
fastboot oem lock
double click the .exe file in Windows
solved it.
Thanks!

I know you figured it out. But just your knowledge for future use: With s-on, you need to relock the bootloader to RUU. It doesn't matter how you run the RUU (zip on SD card, fastboot the zip, run the exe, HTC Sync) they all require the bootloader to be RELOCKED or LOCKED (unless you have s-off).
Also, HTC Sync is just an unnecessary middle man. You can just run the RUU.exe after downloading it to your PC, with the phone in bootloader-fastboot mode.

No Recovery?

Right, here is what I have:
HTC 0ne M9 -Carrier is Bell
I have Venom Rom 3.5
SuperSU - verified root
S-ON
Bootloader Unlocked
TWRP- 2.8 but currently missing?
Phone doesn't want to boot into recovery after using suggested twrp method to upgrade to 3.0.
Have tried re-install in download + bootloader mode -nadda
Interestingly I can`t find the root portion when plugged into laptop (win7) but! can find it with solid explorer ( has a little lock icon beside it) suggesting it`s inaccessible?
Phone works fine....but I'd like new kit!!
Thanks all,
Colin :highfive:
Flash twrp 2.9.0.1 and supersu 2.65.

Thanks for the reply!
I has recovery! This means newer versions and m9's are not so compatible?
Anyone with a link for upgrading the Venom Rom with newest patches? Overall I'm trying to get Marshmallow loaded with the Venom Rom, any help would be appreciated!
Thanks all!
If you want to go from Lollipop to marshmallow you should have done that before rooting.
You need the official htc marshmallow update as a base then flash venom rom over the top of it.
S-on means you have to get the device back to official status before you can use an ruu or ota.
The quick and easy way is s-off.

I've had the device rooted for over 6 months now just about getting the updates and things. Will do the s-off to get the ball rolling again.
Thanks for your time,
