OK Google not working. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Don't shoot me, I've done some searching but found no answer...
Ok / Hey Google is not activating the Google assistant on my stock android 10, Nov 19 updated phone.
Squeeze works and manually starting the assistant works but not via speech. It always used to.
When I try switch it on in settings, it switches off saying '
Something went wrong. Try again.'
Anyone else had this? And if so how did you fix it?
Cheers

I haven't had hotword detection problems in a while but try deleting Google App and OK Google Enrollment data then rebooting.

I meant wipe Google app's data. Settings>apps & notifications>see all apps>click show system from overflow menu. Then clear all data from Google and OK google enrollment and reboot then set up Google app settings again

Hmm. A few more ideas if you're interested in trying
1. type "trust agent" into search settings and make sure it's toggled on under security settings. Maybe try toggling it off, reboot, then turn it back on.
2. uninstall google app updates and see if it starts working (settings>apps>google>overflow menu)
If none of those work I would think about flashing the factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/images

Thanks for the help. 1 & 2 did not work.
Contemplating whether to do 3 or see if December update fixes my issue!

So I reinstalled Android 10 from factory image with ADB. Not the OTA. Did not reinstate any back up and still hey Google does not work... "There was a problem".
Pants!

try these steps that will completely bring back Assistant to as close to stock as possible without totally resetting the device...
go into Settings/Apps & Notifications/See all apps
*you may need to display “all apps”
Google Play Services
Clear data from within “storage & cache”
Assistant
Clear data from within “storage & cache”
Uninstall
open Google Play Store
Go to menu/sandwich bars in the top left location
Go to “My apps & games”
Re-search, download, & install Google Assistant
launch Google app
Go under the “More” tab section
Go & Select the “Voice” section
Select “Voice Match” section
Select “delete voice model”
Choose “retrain voice model” (if possible – I don’t wish to delete mine)
Follow prompts and re-set up voice match model…
Make sure “Access with Voice Match”
I had/have to frequently reset Google Assistant and “hotword” set up, so this is the steps I take to reset Assistant so it will respond to me saying the “hotword”….it works 95% of the time where the other 5% is rebooting my device and then running through all of these steps……
Hope this ends up being helpful and good luck!

I would try deleting and retraining your voice model.

I had noticed a while back that Ok Google wasnt activating assistant on my phone. I deleted the voice model and retrained it and Ok Google as been working fine now to activate assistant. So letting the OP know that this worked for me.

FFS. Have tried all methods suggested here and I can't get ok Google or get Google to work. It works in my old Yotaphone but not my Google Pixel! Go figure!
I guess I will learn to live without it.
Thanks for all your help.

March update has fixed my issue! Hey Google working well again no.
Mods please close this thread.

Android Device Manager problems...

I'm trying to use the Android Device Manager, but I only get one device and no options to change..
I have an Samsung Galaxy Nexus with android 4.3 (JWR66V)
Could this have anything to do with me trying to root my device (Nexus Root Toolkit)?
I tried to root, but even though I got a message that my device was rooted, It's still un-rooted (But with unlocked bootloader)
The only device that shows up for me is my son's Nexus 7, which I have a profile on. My Galaxy Nexus doesn't show up and there's no drop down to select it.
What version of the toolkit did you use? If it wasn't the latest version (1.6.8 as of this writing) there may be additional steps required (beyond what's in the toolkit UI) when rooting 4.3.
I have allowed Device Manager in Settings, but on the web I see No active devices.

Sweet! I'm not the only one with this problem, But I think I found the fix. It worked for me. I too am running a Galaxy Nexus on 4.3
If your Android device doesn't appear in Android Device Manager, or if you see Unknown location despite your device being online and running Google Play services version 3.2.25 or higher, follow these steps:
1. Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
2. Touch Android Device Manager.
3. Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
4. Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All > Google Play services.
5. Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
6. Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
7. Restart your device.
Make sure you follow the directiions exactly or it won't work

Has anyone else had the situation where all devices were initially showing up in Android Device Manager, but no longer show up? Mine was working fine for a few days, and then out of nowhere, both my N4 and N10 disappeared from the web, and I'm getting the "No Active Devices" message. I tried the above tip, but it didn't work for me.

Yes, same with my N4. I'm not rooted. Neither is my phone
I've tried the instructions above 3 times and still it says "No active devices". Booo Google! Boo.
As with the other users, my N4 also no longer appears on the Play Store, so I can't install apps via a desktop browser any more. I guess the Play Store is now relying on Android Device Manager, which it shouldn't because it's clearly buggy as hell.
God forbid I lose my phone at this stage, having uninstalled Seekdroid. :-/

This might be a given but... Do you guys that are having issues have location services activated in Google Settings and also in your phone settings? I've noticed on more than one 4.3 ROM this gets shut off for some reason.. Also you need to accept the agreement to turn location services on. Just something to check.

Woohoo! I got my N4 working! The original steps alone DID NOT work for me. I tried them multiple times. However, a combination of adding the steps of disabling all location services and re-enabling them, as well as clearing data for Google Services Framework and Google Play Store (in addition to clearing data for Google Play Services and performing the other suggested steps) did the trick. I did a bunch of rebooting after most of these steps, but I don't remember exactly when (sorry). I did not have to remove/add my Google account.
I still have to get my N10 to be detected. I'll do this when I get a chance, and I'll pay closer attention to which steps fixed the issue.

[Q] Stuck and lost with Google Play Services - unable to update, please help

Symptoms
Google Play Services Error - receiving a message " An Application Requires and Update"
when trying to use "Update" , I get "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again"
when trying to "Deactivate" i get "This app is a device administrator and must be deactivated before uninstalling"
this is now affecting other apps (Google Keep, Hangouts, etc)
I talked to Google already ,cleared download manager, did factor reset twice, no avail, same issue. their recommendation is to contact Asus
Yesterday I unlocked and rooted the tablet, same issue.
Any suggestions? I downloaded "com.google.android.gms.apk" but the system does not let me install it
Thank you in advance , I am stuck for over 3 weeks
You can try going into the Google Play Services app, then force stop, clear cache and clear data. This may do it.
What you may need to do, what I've had to do, is delete the Google account off your device, then add it back. (A reboot in between couldn't hurt.) Why this happens, I don't know.
I suggest to flash a factory image, may be, there is something destroyed in the firmware ...
Just wondering....

I am not sure that I have any clever answers right now, but to clarify the problem, is this with Google Play itself not letting you update or install anything (without producing this error message) or is it a specific app that you are trying to update which is the only one resulting in this error?

It is both
a) Google Play Services require an update (which refuses to install)
b) com.google.android.keep (Google Keep) requires an update (otherwise not letting to open -" This app won't run unless you update Google Play Services"). when trying to update it takes you to the same screen for Google Play Services update which fails.
If it helps, the store shows me 4.0.34 section under "What's new" which I think is not the latest Google Play Services apk
Thank you
tried both...

At this point I'd make backups and flash a new ROM (stock or custom LTE). Something's been corrupted that isn't easily fixable, and you'll save time in the end by starting over from scratch.
I would agree that it sounds very much like something is corrupt in the ROM that you currently have; I would have a browse through the appropriate forums and find a new flavour of ROM to flash onto your device.
I have also heard great things about Wug's toolkit but have yet to use it myself.... about all I *need* to change on my N7 right now is root so that I can install a few choice apps that would not run otherwise, but don't want to wipe everything just for the sake of it
removed google+ from my account, solved.

[Q] Google Play Store Keeps Crashing on Rooted Note 4, What to do?

I have a Sprint Note 4 which is rooted and yesterday I downloaded Lucky Patcher and the Modded Google Play Store to replace my stock Google Play Store. So through Titanium, I backed up the stock Google Play Store and then I uninstalled it, since the Modded Google Play Store would not let me install it without doing that. I also cleared the cache and data on Google Play Store and now it just keeps crashing all the time. When I try to download something, it starts to download and then immediately it crashes and gives me the "Unfortunately, Play Store has stopped working" error. I get the error no matter which version of Play Store I use now, whether it is the modded or the official version. I tried clearing data/cache to Google Play Services as well, to no avail. When I try to restore my backup of Google Play Store through Titanium it stays frozen with "Restoring Google Play Store 5.1.11" and I end up having to force stop Titanium. This is so annoying! What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!!!
1) Go to Application manager/All, scroll down to where you find these three: Google Services Framework, Google Play, and Google Play Services. Force stop and delete cache and data for the first two (in order given). You won't be able to force close Google Play Services but choose Manage storage and scroll to bottom to clear all data. It's annoying that they may try to restart, just clear again and reboot quickly.
2) If that doesn't work, got a nandroid backup?
3) Re-flash current ROM, if no.
4) If stock and no backup, consider another ROM or start over with Odin stock tar.
Note: options 3 and 4 may require clean install.
Note 2: I've tried to suggest from least inconvenience to most; hopefully, the easier methods will do.
Edit: you may also see an option to uninstall update to revert to the original system application; consider that as option 2 or 3 for Google Play.

Ok I just did that now when I run Play Store it doesn't crash, instead it is says " Check your internet connection and try again" It seems as if it isn't recognizing that I actually do have a connection? I heard that if you go to the files on the phone to "etc/hosts" file and put a "#" in front of the second IP address in the hosts file that it will work but I just tried that and it didn't so I reverted the file back.
Also I tried going to settings>accounts and removing my Google accounts and re adding them but Play store still says I have no connection (which I clearly do). I made sure my date/time settings are right as well. This is happening with the modded play store and the official 5.2.12 Play Store.
YouTube randomly crashes now as well and gives me "unfortunately, YouTube has stopped " Google play store is still not recognizing that I am connected. I think I have tried just about anything besides flashing back to the stock ROM
Did you try step one again after swapping the Google Play versions? Worth a try, if you didn't.
One more thing: Lucky Patcher creates an Odex file. You should use the Lucky Patcher option to remove the Odex and restore the original. If you're ROM is deodexed, Titanium may not fix this for you. You can manually check for Odex file as well. Titanium is also useful to check for unneeded dalvik-cache files.
And one last suggestion I omitted: in recovery, delete all cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Hmmm it is working now after hours of fumbling around with settings. Both the Modded and official newest Google Play Stores started working after I turned off "Google License Verification Emulation" and I had to turn off "Google Billing Emulation". Very stressful lol but they were the default settings and I didn't really want to mess with any of the settings as I am just starting with Lucky Patcher.

Was that Google Play version 5.2.12?
I flashed that to system yesterday and everything was working except that it didn't populate my applications and notify updates until a day later. I had to search for updates that I knew were available. Today, the apps populated and I got update notification for available updates. I think it may be part of the battery savings that lollipop is supposed to be bringing; less Google Play wakes.
Consider that your manipulation results may have been skewed by Google not immediately syncing the update.
As for my experience, I did find myself doing step one and considering flashing the nandroid but waited for applications to sync. They did finally sync this morning. The longer sync of apps may have been induced locally by the use of Xposed module "Recent Apps" which can be configured to force close apps and remove from recents, reducing wake times.

The # is used in scripts to comment out; meaning ignore that line in your host file.
As far as LP, there is a help link to read. Discussion threads on LP may get closed on XDA; LP may be a useful tool but leans toward piracy. Not saying this pertains to you but there was a thread that the developer participated in that xda allowed to remain open with a warning. That should be sufficient, unless closed as well.

Why is it that when running stock lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 Edge is it that Google Play Store constantly crashes when I'm rooted.
When no root it works fine and dandy.
Soon as rooted the bloody thing crashes constantly..
The only way I managed to keep rooted was to use stock google play store and prevent it from updating.
This I can cope with.. If anyone else has come across this issue and found a better way to fix it please let me know
My note 4 lollipop 5.1.1 device has rooted but fix problem in Google play when I update big file(like no system apps) apps so when it's completely update after start beginning wht can I do it

Google Play Services. I messed up, need help

So, I manually updated Play Services......
I got this apk right here http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-7-8-92-2098262-440-android-apk-download/
Made sure the one I had matches the "440" at the end of the version number, which is relevant to Android version > 5.0, ARM64, and universal DPI.
Now that I installed it, a lot of my apps are crashing and won't even load.
I tried installing an older version of Play Services but it won't let me.
Any suggestions please?
I'm not happy to do a factory reset for this.
Wipe data from play services? That should reset it all. If you use Android wear you will have to reset the watch and wipe the wear app tho. Too much of wear is tied into play services to work. Also, have you just rebooted first? Updating play services like a normal app interrupts the normal flow and may just need to clear the triangles and reboot then wipe the app if that doesn't do it.

Yes I did reboot the phone
I also wiped the data from Play Services and the apps that were crashing but nothing changed...
Can you go to Settings > Apps > All, scroll to Google Play Services, and Uninstall Updates?

It won't let me do that. The button is grayed out.
I've been doing some research and there's quite a few people in that situation with no answer...
I suppose I'll do a backup and Reset Factory Settings this weekend if nothing comes up

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES... Now everything is crashing
Uninstalled updates then I let it it update itself, and reboot. Did another Clear Data for Play Services.
The Play Services is back to its correct version before my manual update.
But I'm still getting all the same crashes. What the hell... ><
I'll format it tonight. It's getting on my nerves.
Reset factory settings worked out well.
And for the record, LG Backup is a damn good option.
3 apps out of 100+ didn't restore properly, they were all moved to external sd before the backup.

How to use google assistant?

I tried every possible way of using Google assistant on my CM 13. Used Android N-fy, edited build prop but nothing worked.
It showed "This account isn't connecting to the feed"
Anyone running google assistant on their device? Help! Thanks.

It works for me on OP3. Follow this tutorial and let me know if it still gives you an error.

I think its my location issue. It says while loading feed "This account is not eligible for the feed"
join the beta version of the google app, make sure n-ify experimental is enabled and the google assistant thing is checked to enable, reboot and it should work
note: "ok google" didn't work for me but I just set long press home to google assistant. also i found that this drained my battery significantly so i uninstalled it a day later
