Android Device Manager problems... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm trying to use the Android Device Manager, but I only get one device and no options to change..
I have an Samsung Galaxy Nexus with android 4.3 (JWR66V)
Could this have anything to do with me trying to root my device (Nexus Root Toolkit)?
I tried to root, but even though I got a message that my device was rooted, It's still un-rooted (But with unlocked bootloader)

The only device that shows up for me is my son's Nexus 7, which I have a profile on. My Galaxy Nexus doesn't show up and there's no drop down to select it.
What version of the toolkit did you use? If it wasn't the latest version (1.6.8 as of this writing) there may be additional steps required (beyond what's in the toolkit UI) when rooting 4.3.

I have allowed Device Manager in Settings, but on the web I see No active devices.

Sweet! I'm not the only one with this problem, But I think I found the fix. It worked for me. I too am running a Galaxy Nexus on 4.3
If your Android device doesn't appear in Android Device Manager, or if you see Unknown location despite your device being online and running Google Play services version 3.2.25 or higher, follow these steps:
1. Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
2. Touch Android Device Manager.
3. Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
4. Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All > Google Play services.
5. Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
6. Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
7. Restart your device.
Make sure you follow the directiions exactly or it won't work

Has anyone else had the situation where all devices were initially showing up in Android Device Manager, but no longer show up? Mine was working fine for a few days, and then out of nowhere, both my N4 and N10 disappeared from the web, and I'm getting the "No Active Devices" message. I tried the above tip, but it didn't work for me.

Both my N4 and N10 originally worked too, not just my N10 shows up. What's more disturbing is my N4 also disappeared from the Play Store on the web and my devices in my Google account dashboard.

Very weird. I haven't had either device disappear from the Play Store, but nothing I do will make them show up again in the Device Manager. Oh well. Guess I'm sticking with Cerberus as my anti-theft solution for now.

Umm, thanks? I've "followed the guide properly" more than once on two devices, and it doesn't work for me. It also hasn't worked for others as well, according to comments on a few sites that re-posted the guide.

Same here, devices were showing fine just yesterday, now suddenly my GNex and Nexus 10 are both gone from the Play Store and ADM. What gives Google.

Yes, same with my N4. I'm not rooted. Neither is my phone
I've tried the instructions above 3 times and still it says "No active devices". Booo Google! Boo.
As with the other users, my N4 also no longer appears on the Play Store, so I can't install apps via a desktop browser any more. I guess the Play Store is now relying on Android Device Manager, which it shouldn't because it's clearly buggy as hell.
God forbid I lose my phone at this stage, having uninstalled Seekdroid. :-/

This worked for me:

This might be a given but... Do you guys that are having issues have location services activated in Google Settings and also in your phone settings? I've noticed on more than one 4.3 ROM this gets shut off for some reason.. Also you need to accept the agreement to turn location services on. Just something to check.

Woohoo! I got my N4 working! The original steps alone DID NOT work for me. I tried them multiple times. However, a combination of adding the steps of disabling all location services and re-enabling them, as well as clearing data for Google Services Framework and Google Play Store (in addition to clearing data for Google Play Services and performing the other suggested steps) did the trick. I did a bunch of rebooting after most of these steps, but I don't remember exactly when (sorry). I did not have to remove/add my Google account.
I still have to get my N10 to be detected. I'll do this when I get a chance, and I'll pay closer attention to which steps fixed the issue.

[Q]Nexus 7 doesn't appear in Google Play on desktop, laptops..(RESOLVED AGAIN)

I've cleared the cache and data, rebooted everything numerous times and it just doesn't show up anymore since I installed Paranoid Android (which BTW is SUPER fast and smooth), so I can't be on my laptop or desktop and install apps onto my Nexus 7.
Any thoughts, tips or advice?
Thank you!
UPDATE 10-16-2013 at 3:02pm (EST) - for some crazy unknown reason it just started showing up again. I guess I just need to post the issue here and it will fix itself.

Yes it is. This is very perplexing.
Had this problem recently. Fixed it by going to play store (latest version, 4.3.11) > menu > settings > account > sign into a different account then sign back into your default one. Or you can try clearing play store data/cache.
Showed back up for me not long after that.
I suspect the problem happens when I don't register an account on a fresh install.

[Q] Stuck and lost with Google Play Services - unable to update, please help

Symptoms
Google Play Services Error - receiving a message " An Application Requires and Update"
when trying to use "Update" , I get "Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again"
when trying to "Deactivate" i get "This app is a device administrator and must be deactivated before uninstalling"
this is now affecting other apps (Google Keep, Hangouts, etc)
I talked to Google already ,cleared download manager, did factor reset twice, no avail, same issue. their recommendation is to contact Asus
Yesterday I unlocked and rooted the tablet, same issue.
Any suggestions? I downloaded "com.google.android.gms.apk" but the system does not let me install it
Thank you in advance , I am stuck for over 3 weeks
You can try going into the Google Play Services app, then force stop, clear cache and clear data. This may do it.
What you may need to do, what I've had to do, is delete the Google account off your device, then add it back. (A reboot in between couldn't hurt.) Why this happens, I don't know.
I suggest to flash a factory image, may be, there is something destroyed in the firmware ...
Just wondering....

I am not sure that I have any clever answers right now, but to clarify the problem, is this with Google Play itself not letting you update or install anything (without producing this error message) or is it a specific app that you are trying to update which is the only one resulting in this error?

It is both
a) Google Play Services require an update (which refuses to install)
b) com.google.android.keep (Google Keep) requires an update (otherwise not letting to open -" This app won't run unless you update Google Play Services"). when trying to update it takes you to the same screen for Google Play Services update which fails.
If it helps, the store shows me 4.0.34 section under "What's new" which I think is not the latest Google Play Services apk
Thank you
tried both...

At this point I'd make backups and flash a new ROM (stock or custom LTE). Something's been corrupted that isn't easily fixable, and you'll save time in the end by starting over from scratch.
I would agree that it sounds very much like something is corrupt in the ROM that you currently have; I would have a browse through the appropriate forums and find a new flavour of ROM to flash onto your device.
I have also heard great things about Wug's toolkit but have yet to use it myself.... about all I *need* to change on my N7 right now is root so that I can install a few choice apps that would not run otherwise, but don't want to wipe everything just for the sake of it
removed google+ from my account, solved.

for all its worth, I solved it by reflushing factory image and removing google plus entry from my google account. no issues now. thanks to all who helped!

You can download the latest playstore (Version 5.4.12) from the attachment provided below..Transfer it to the phone and enable unknown sources...Install apk normally..
The apk/file provided by @a76vna is google installer...It will help you download all the apps made by google (Only google apps ; No third party apps can be downloaded from it)\
Please tell us how did it brick..Is it stuck on bootloop??...You can revive the phone by downloading and flashing the stock rom from official Asus website...

Sorry for the short post.
The phone was stuck in a boot loop. It would show the ASUS logo, then the spinning wheel.
Turns out the problem was that I was trying to flash the .11 version of the pre root image instead of the .13
Flashing the .13 version fixed the boot loop and also installed all the google apps! So both problems are solved now.
I was able to install all the gapps using this method.
I found the google installer for the miui and than it worked flawlessly.

Any changes you know where I can get the correct Google Play Services for the zenfone 2? I tried all sorts different version and nothing works. Every time I install it I just keep getting the message "Unfortunately google play store has stopped". I tried all sorts of different things to get it to work but its still not working. Right now I have it uninstalled by factory data resetting the phone. I downloaded the attachment you had and every time I open it it just close back and no errors. If anyone has any suggestions for me would be much appreciated.

Will do. Some of you might already know this trick but ill tell you what I did. You need to uninstall google play store and google play services I could not do it from the phones options so I had to factory data reset my phone. To do so go to settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset Note : This will erase all your data on your phone. I did not back up my data or turn on any of the options in the backup & reset. Ones you are done with the factory data reset check if you any google apps installed on the phone. If you do then try to find a way to uninstall them I don't know how. If you don't have them installed then go to settings > security > tun on unknown sources. Then go to your browser on the phone and go to m.app.mi.com then click on the green button at the top right hand side it will start downing Xiaomi market. When you have the app installed on to your phone open it and search google. You should get a button that says "search other markets" if you do click it. You need to find the right now I can't post pics so do a search for Xiaomi google installer in google images and you see it . This should install google installer, ones its done installing open google installer and install google play store you should know and see the icon for it. You will get a prompt saying install google services framework click ok. Then you should see "Google Services Framework" ,"Google Account Manager" , and two different google play icons. On the bottom there is a install all button click it. You will get another prompt just click continue and just keep hitting next and install ones you get prompted. That it you should have everything working now hope that helps.
PS: I know this is a long away to do it. You can just download for the 4 apps and transferring them to your phone internal drive and installing them. You could do that but that's not what I did.

so many people told about many things, but no one gave easy solution......I just installed Google installer_1.3_9.apk...thats it...now I can access google items in my Asus Zenphone 551ml...

OK Google not working.

Don't shoot me, I've done some searching but found no answer...
Ok / Hey Google is not activating the Google assistant on my stock android 10, Nov 19 updated phone.
Squeeze works and manually starting the assistant works but not via speech. It always used to.
When I try switch it on in settings, it switches off saying '
Something went wrong. Try again.'
Anyone else had this? And if so how did you fix it?
Cheers

How to delete the Google app? It's baked in on Pixel phones. Cheers.

I meant wipe Google app's data. Settings>apps & notifications>see all apps>click show system from overflow menu. Then clear all data from Google and OK google enrollment and reboot then set up Google app settings again

Hmm. A few more ideas if you're interested in trying
1. type "trust agent" into search settings and make sure it's toggled on under security settings. Maybe try toggling it off, reboot, then turn it back on.
2. uninstall google app updates and see if it starts working (settings>apps>google>overflow menu)
If none of those work I would think about flashing the factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/images

Thanks for the help. 1 & 2 did not work.
Contemplating whether to do 3 or see if December update fixes my issue!
So I reinstalled Android 10 from factory image with ADB. Not the OTA. Did not reinstate any back up and still hey Google does not work... "There was a problem".
Pants!
try these steps that will completely bring back Assistant to as close to stock as possible without totally resetting the device...
go into Settings/Apps & Notifications/See all apps
*you may need to display “all apps”
Google Play Services
Clear data from within “storage & cache”
Assistant
Clear data from within “storage & cache”
Uninstall
open Google Play Store
Go to menu/sandwich bars in the top left location
Go to “My apps & games”
Re-search, download, & install Google Assistant
launch Google app
Go under the “More” tab section
Go & Select the “Voice” section
Select “Voice Match” section
Select “delete voice model”
Choose “retrain voice model” (if possible – I don’t wish to delete mine)
Follow prompts and re-set up voice match model…
Make sure “Access with Voice Match”
I had/have to frequently reset Google Assistant and “hotword” set up, so this is the steps I take to reset Assistant so it will respond to me saying the “hotword”….it works 95% of the time where the other 5% is rebooting my device and then running through all of these steps……
Hope this ends up being helpful and good luck!

I would try deleting and retraining your voice model.
I had noticed a while back that Ok Google wasnt activating assistant on my phone. I deleted the voice model and retrained it and Ok Google as been working fine now to activate assistant. So letting the OP know that this worked for me.
FFS. Have tried all methods suggested here and I can't get ok Google or get Google to work. It works in my old Yotaphone but not my Google Pixel! Go figure!
I guess I will learn to live without it.
Thanks for all your help.
March update has fixed my issue! Hey Google working well again no.
Mods please close this thread.

Question Cannot update Chrome application on global Poco F3 due to unfinished configuration of brand new Android device

Hi all,
I've tried to update my chrome application (the pre-installed on my Global Poco F3 which is under MIUI Global 12.02 stable global) I have tried multiple times to update the Chrome app from the Google Play Store with no success to this day.
I've investigated using adb logcat and I've seen a specific error trigger itself :

I have tried to update chrome on a Redmi Note 8 pro without success as well. However, under LOS (Lineage OS 18.1) another phone has successfully updated the Chrome app, meaning this issue is probably not due to a weird Google Play Store bug but most likely due to MIUI 12.
Anyone has encountered this issue ? And is there any way we could work around this ? (instead of waiting for a potential fix in MIUI 12.5)
Thanks for any help on this matter, I can provide the whole backtrace if anyone want to see it but I doubt it would help anyway since she looks pretty obfuscated to me (the only thing I could understand was some execute function being called but all the classes names have been randomized and most functions call names too).
Hi! This is usually a problem for those who have set up the system for the first time. I also encountered this, after a while Google Chrome was updated on its own. The same applies to the Android System WebView application. Wait for a while and the app will update.
UPD: Or you can download right now from apkmirror.com, if you want

But my Redmi Note 8 Pro isn't brand new, but I still encounter an issue to upgrade Chrome at least, I'm not too sure how long should I be waiting ? (like 6 months or just even a few weeks I guess ?)

Okay, try log out from your Google account, then clear data & cache Google Play Services, Service Framework and Google play store too, then reboot and login again, but not sure about this method
I cannot understand the mistake. I updated Chrome to the latest version 3 days ago.

You were correct, I had unfinished the device configuration (the first time you have to connect your Google account etc.) hence it didn't work to update Chrome and Android Web View, I just finished it right now and Chrome did successfully update. That's weird I think Android should change (if this issue is at the Android level).
In the end I didn't need to do all this logging out, clearing data & cache and so on, just finishing the device configuration solved the issue.

I had a somewhat permanent notification that said something along the lines of "Finish configuration of your device" I clicked on it and then I pressed next and tweaked the last options, once that notification was cleared, all the Google Apps kinda of updated themselves somehow (I saw some of them even reinstalled themselves that was a bit weird but everything went fine afterwards).

Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately I didn't have this message to "Finish configuration". So, I followed a tutorial on internet and erase all Google play store and Google Play services data.
After that rebooted the phone and put my information again on Play Store and than the update starts working for it self.

Good thing you figure it out, and also thanks for explaining how for others who will face this issue, maybe sometimes the notification disappears for some reason or the configuration doesn't finish successfully and this issue happens.
