Hi,
Like usual will there be any cutom rom development?
Also since we have a mtk soc will there be any update after a year for miui/android? They usually don't do that mtk devices..
Not many people bought this phone i think

If that's true then how are people finding it difficult to buy it still?
XDA has sent RN8pro devices to many developers. Have patience and development will happen. Sources are also released already.

I got it in the first try.. It was very less competitive compared to other Redmi devices..

I don't understand this.
If you get in first try, it's a problem.
If you don't get in first try, it's a problem. Xiaomi is bad, they use this trick and so many complains.
If you getting in first try is equal to bad sales then you are outstanding analyst. ??

Would Cyanogen Mod be interested in developing for this phone now that we have unlocked bootloader? Given the choice, I'd love Paranoid Android, but I went hold my breath.
CM is already in development . https://github.com/CM-zenfone2
BrokenROM https://github.com/BrokenROM/device_asus_moorefield
Seems that are only for ZE551ML I hope that will be compatible with ZE550ML
If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Yay! I really hope Paranoid Android follows suit. I LOVE Pa's Halo feature.
custom roms will help this phone.zenny 2 has one of the worst stock firmware optimization ever and seems like asus cant fix the problems.
Be patient guys, I just sent a couple developers phones this week.

Good to see Asus is showing commitment to this phone. Also great to see you guys are embracing the aftermarket ROM community. More vendors need to be supportive like this.
We love the enthusiast community - you guys are the ones that like to tinker and have contributed to our growth over the years when we were just a motherboard vendor. I bet many of you still have fond memories of building PCs with our components before tinkering with phones .

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!
We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

Just got one single request... Open an official outlet or distributer in Pakistan... I am buying your items off international vendors without warranties... Would love to see if I can get some support locally...

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done
Good thing to see Asus sharing to make custom ROMs efficient.
Already on Harfainx's ROM, can't wait to see things going even further.

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.
I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all

Kernel sources are out. But don't expect much development here.. If u really care about development then 7x is not for YOU
Development will start after some times for sure. But don't expect like other manufacturer devices...
For me i really don't care about custom roms.. I only need root and TWRP. I got both these in 7x. So very much happy

I think you'll be fine because of project treble, not sure though
I'll tell you an advice, if you want to buy a phone for development of custom ROMs, just go with a snapdragon device (like Xiaomi, Motorola, OnePlus...etc)
What do u need roms for basically? i come from the nexus to the pixel and then oneplus community.
being addicted to rom flashing every other day and used to waste a lot of time
EMUI is great and has almost all the functions. except for root i dont even need much.
With treble all the major development teams will release updates anyway in future.

I'll wait, a little bit (I still don't know what variant to get, US or EU)
I want to buy a fone. Any suggestions how much time to recieve custom roms....
dont ask for ETA, I also ordered one Honor 7x too
When a phone is brand new with absolutely NO Roms out yet I'm pretty sure the whole "Don't ask for ETAs" rule doesn't count. Relax. Please be honest with yourself.
This device will only do good (For some people) if it gains dev support. Kirin is closed source from what I understand so development sucks when compared to Honor/Huawei devices with SD chips so inquiring minds will want to know.
I'm ready for an upgrade from my Honor 5X myself but can't pull trigger due to lack of support for 6X or 7X. Honor is good about updates but I need more control over my device (Root, hotspot, and Roms) past the 2 year update standard. I would go to xaiomi redmi unlocked but their US device lacks 1 of the LTE bands I need on AT&T.
Plus I actually really love my Honor 5x device and respect the company for their attempts to make affordable higher end device and come to XDA with so much support on launch of company. I won't for get that but I still need a device soon.

I mean, there's OpenKirin, not sure about this being closed source with kernel sources already released. It depends on which skilled dev feels like picking up this device.

I can confirm that this device is going to be officially supported by OpenKirin as soon as we can get a stable rom running on it.

Care to share which ROM you're in the dev team of? I'm sorry but the one thing being a member of XDA for close to 8 years had taught me is that some people like to lie about being a developer. It's such an inconvenience to other members that want to experience something positive.

Wassup Guys,
First of all, I wanna thank every developer in this forum here for providing us with free custom roms and mods for our device. I got a G986B by myself, but I neither rooted my device, nor did I install a custom rom. I wanted to install the latest stock debloated by hmy65, sadly my device type is not supported yet.
This brings me to the question, why there are so less projects in comparison to the amount of people being active here? Besides the reason, that Samsung is not providing every source tree or similar, I am wondering why there are so less custom roms currently ...is it because of massive amount of variety between the model itself? I am a developer too, sadly I am not a pro regarding building custom roms... although I gotta admit that I am interested in learning it. Well, what do you say? I mean like the S8,S9,S10 had plenty roms avaible at that time (speaking about the passed time since the device's release).
Could be worse, you could have a snapdragon with zero development.

Yeah, I was gonna say, the Snapdragon model has literally zero. I could be mistaken, but I thought SD always had more development in the past..

Well, that's true. But I guess I speak for the majority, when I say that Samsung and Snapdragon is not always a perfect combination. Well, I'd actually build something by myself but I doubt that someone can learn that fast ??
