LineageOS for Nokia 7.2
About LineageOS
LineageOS is a free and open-source operating system for set-top boxes, smartphones and tablet computers, based on the Android mobile platform. It is the successor to the custom ROM CyanogenMod, from which it was forked in December 2016 when Cyanogen Inc. announced it was discontinuing development and shut down the infrastructure behind the project. Since Cyanogen Inc. retained the rights to the Cyanogen name, the project rebranded its fork as LineageOS.
LineageOS was officially launched on December 24, 2016, with the source code available on GitHub. Since that time, LineageOS development builds now cover more than 185 phone models with over 1.9 million active installs, having doubled its user base in the month February–March 2017 And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

I tested now and I found Google Services - are GApps included? I installed lineageos in this build to AVOID this. Or did I make something wrong?

I wrote to Raghu varma for the same question.
Technically it seems to not be that simple - if lineage 17.1 has been compiled without gapps and the build process was done by using private keys, flashing gapps would brick the device or the lineageos installation.
So Raghu varma compiled the version with gapps included to avoid this.
So I took his scripts from github and I built lineageos 17.1 on my own (with private keys and without gapps as I don't think about flashing them afterwards) - this worked fine.
Now I couldn't find his scripts for Daredevil on his github profile anymore - maybe they will come back for the 7.2 build process.

This should be OK. I'll upload a copy and send a link.
Be aware that the security patch level is dated on march 2020 and doesn't include the latest Google security patches from june.

Much appreciated!!
i posted already in the twrp thread of my problem "touch not working with twrp", that's still persisting.
so i got another idea. i used adb commands to control twrp. like you know, adb shell twrp sideload and then do the adb sideload commands for installing lineageos 17.1.
what did i do so far is:
*flash twrp 3.4.0
*boot up to twrp 3.4.0
*use adb shell twrp remountrw
*use adb to sideload lineageos 17.1 zipfile with commands (adb shell twrp sideload and then adb sideload lineageos.zip) - but the progress bar only goes to 47% and say like it would have "finished" - i dont believe in it
*use adb to sideload vendor zipfile zipfile with commands (adb shell twrp sideload and then adb sideload vendor.zip) - that one works normally
*changed slot from B (i was on before) to A on fastboot and flashed the vbmeta to current slot (A)
*reboot without wiping system partition and installing lineageos only brings up normal stock rom
*even wiped system partition one time (or should i say system_root?) - and installed lineageOS via adb sideload. but nothing was in the system_root folder as i mounted it back again
*wiping system partition and reboot only brings up android one loading screen endlessly
so basically, the installer says it has installed the rom, but in reality it didnt seem to touch the system partition at all. am i doing something wrong or may it be that because i dont have touch access i miss to move some unlock slider which is not implemented via adb shell twrp? i think something along these lines might be the case but.. i was able to adb shell twrp wipe system. so basically it should not be a big deal to write to system partition or system_root in general.
oh and of accusation that the adb sideload probably doesnt send data correctly (from which i heard lots of stories of the past), i even pushed the zip file via adb push to / and installed it with adb shell twrp install /lineageos.zip. same result.
what i would really like to see is an debug log of the installer zip. you only see "part 1 and part 2" installing and percentage, but no informations what the installer is doing currently. this would help a lot if there would be a switch for the installer like "verbose information"
edit again.
I finally managed to do the install. You know what? it is possible without the touch gui. what i did was:
*reflashed via fastboot the stock rom
*booted normally, installed the latest upgrade (Stock ROM OTA - took a long while) - (may be obsolete)
*booted to fastboot, flashed newest twrp to boot
*booted to recovery
*adb shell twrp remountrw
*adb shell twrp remountrw (the /tmp/recovery.log showed interestingly at first remountrw the page set of readonly, at second time not - why?)
*adb shell
*entered in adb shell mount /system
*adb shell twrp wipe data
*adb push lineageos.zip /data/
*adb shell twrp install /data/lineageos.zip
*adb push ddv.zip /data/
*adb shell twrp install /data/ddv.zip
*adb shell getprop ro.boot.slot_suffix (to get the actual boot slot)
*adb reboot bootloader
*fastboot --set-active=_a (for me i was on b before, so i needed to go to a)
*fastboot flash vbmeta_a --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta.img
*fastboot reboot
*then the phone - now on lineage - asked me to factory reset, i did
*booted finally successfully up to lineage 17.1 - wlan, mobile network working just fine
if you want gapps on it, install them ideally direct after your custom rom is able to boot. in my case gps didnt worked with gapps and other apps till i did another factory reset. and the original launcher that comes with the cust-rom doesnt work anymore after installing the gapps. use the pixel launcher instead. after that, it works like a charme
in conclusion: a bit odd how the install not works as in the description was told. maybe the TA-1196 is just a bit different.
Hello Together,
i've installed LineageOs yesterday and i realy like it . I just can't find an camera App that supports the wideAngle Camera at the back.
Open Camera only recognizes 2 Cameras, and GCam 7.0 Nokia 7.2 Mod can't seem to access it either.
Is there a solution to this?
Best regards
Alex

Can I flash this OS on my phone directly without twrp ? will wifi and camera work as it should? Sorry for the questions I am new here and just started reading this Thank you
Nokia is nowadays very slow in giving security patch updates to its devices. Its a high time we switch to custom rom..?
I'm waiting for my phone's warranty to get over. Anyways, do anyone have any eta on when this rom will get official?
I have managed finally to install it, but sorry, nothing mentioned work: no double tapp sleep or wake up, no fingerprint, no slinux enforced, camera is not worth to mention at all and i still didnt test bluetooth or microphones yet. ..

I agree for tapp to wake up and selinux.
Nevertheless, bluetooth and microphones and fingerprint sensors are working like a charm.
NFC is not mentioned anywhere, but I don't need this function at all.
I installed the build from 14/11.
@Raghu varma: Can we help you out sending logfiles for some issues? Do you need testers?

Nice ROM
Thanks for the ROM. I have tried it, works great.
Things that are not working for me is, cannot give apps permission to use biometric identification also NFC is not working.
Thank you, ROM works just fine, much better than Nokia's stock firmware.
Is there any way to root this?
I've tried to extract the payload from lineage-18.0-20201114-UNOFFICIAL-Starlord.zip and patched boot.img with magisk (8.0.3).
This ends in a bootloop.
Installing TWRP and then install Magsik 21.1.zip ends in a recovery bootloop. Fixing with TWRP dosen't fixed it.
EDIT: I fixed it with the beta Magisk channel... Now its rooted. THX for the awsom work for this Rom...

Could you please tell us how you managed to unlock the bootloader.
You have to downgrade to Dec 2019 to unlock.

Hello Guys,
I am new here, but I followed the developement of LineageOS for Nokia devices for a while now.
I have a Nokia 6.2 in daily use and would like to upgrade to LineageOS.
Are there any groundbreaking features missing and roadblocks to watch out for?
I read in some build(I think it was LineageOS 17 for Nokia 6.2), that the camera was not working, so I wanted to ask, if this is the case here as well, or just not listed in the features?
I am thankful for any answers

Thank you @Raghu varma for your efforts!
Three questions:
1) Is there anything compared with the stock ROM which does explicitely not work?
2) Is it multi-lingual? I would be using it in German.
3) Which vbmeta to download for this Android 11 ROM? Following the link you provided which leads to Soruceforge, there is only vbmeta for Android 9 (PIE) and 10 (TEN).

RELEASE
This is an alternative ROM for the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.
Creating this to honor the great work of modpunk and derf elot from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-lineageos-18-1-unofficial-2-0-update-2021-01-20.4047763/ which seems to be discontinued. Posting an own thread to keep the latest versions visible, I'm NOT claiming authorship over the ROM.
I basically just build the ROM using the latest changes from upstream LineageOS/Google and kernel updates (usually incorporated by derf elot ) See my post.
FEATURES
Signed with dev keys
EAS kernel
Passes SafetyNet out of the box (thanks Rooted_Ansh, Havoc-OS Team and kdrag0n)
Seedvault (Video)
IMS support (thanks to Rooted_Ansh and also Shujath)
17.1 has stock Sony camera (not possible on 18+)
DOWNLOAD
You can download the latest release here.
HINT: Download both the ZIP and md5sum file so TWRP can check the consistency of the upload/download.
Make sure you download the right version, vanilla LineageOS is named lineage-*UNOFFICIAL-lilac.zip while the MicroG version is named lineage-*-MICROG--lilac.zip
REQUIRED FIRMWARE: 47.2.A.11.228
IMPORTANT: I only test the 17.1 releases myself. The 18.1/19.1 are build from mostly the same sources and hopefully work. I only test them roughly.
Backup download
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT: Magisk seems to cause issues (bootloops) on update, so remove it first and reinstall if required. Note that Magisk is usually not required unless you want root.
Put the zip file of the ROM on your SD card or internal store and boot into recovery.
When coming from stock ROM, do a full wipe (i.e. factory reset) via "Wipe". You don't need to wipe system. When flashing the stock ROM you can select to not keep user data which is equivalent to this step.
Go to "Install", select the zip file and add optionally the gapps zip. Then flash it.
After updates you may now wipe cache&dalvik (option after install)
I suggest to use modpunks TWRP recovery. Again: Don't forget the md5sum file!
TWRP 3.3.1-0 by modpunk / derf elot
Or use the latest TWRP for 17.1/18.1 or TWRP for 19.1.
3.7.0 Seems to work well with latest updates (decryption working) but LineageOS 19.1 (Android 12) requires the ones with "_12" suffix, e.g. 3.6.2_12.
For ease of use I suggest to flash this recovery (only required once):
Boot in Fastboot mode: Hold "Volume Up" while connecting the USB cable to phone and PC
Flash TWRP by running this on the PC: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.3.1-0-lilac-android10-1.img
(adjust the filename if necessary)
From now you can boot TWRP by turning on the phone with "Volume Down" + Power
I heavily recommend to make a full backup before any installation so you can go back in case of issues. Flashing an older ROM usually helps to recover bootloops etc.
Upgrades between versionsDirty-flashing (e.g. from 17.1 to 18.1) works well but you have to also flash a GApps version matching the Android version or the device will bootloop.
For the upgrade to 19.1 you may need to fully remove OpenGapps by wiping /system and install e.g. MindTheGapps.
SUPPORT
There is NONE. If you have any issues or question ask in the thread so maybe someone else knows the answer.
I'm just providing the ROM (Lineage 17.1 variant) I use myself for others to try to and just build the Lineage 18.1 ROM without much testing.
If you prefer to use a more well-tested Android 11 ROM, I suggest to look at Havoc-OS.
Contributions to the sources are welcome and likely get integrated into the next release.

Thank you for keeping this rom up to date for this small but loyal userbase! A miracle come true for me cause I can't build roms on my own.
Thank you so much!! Can anyone report to me if flashing the new 18.1 directly over the previous version of 18.1 works?
I would test myself, but right now I cant afford to need to totally reset my phone if it doesn't work.

All I can say dirty flashing works well over the latest/previous 17.1 by Flamefire, which in turn works well over the latest modpunk (1.7). So it's worth a try.
More generally, although these ROMs are hardly as well tested as HavocOS, there are satisfied reports over on the original LOS17.1/18.1 thread.

Exactly. Just not the other way around.
Updated with the July security patches.
Note: AndroidFileHost was quite quirky today, so use the md5sum files to verify the integrity of the files

Thanks. Tried it for a couple of hours - dirty flashed over the 0702 version - and it works just as well so far.
I had one brief moment of panic: upon first boot the phone was stuck right on hitting the desktop for some 10 seconds (did not happen on the many previous dirty flashes); but then everything proceeded well.
Again, great work.
@Flamefire Regarding the information to TWRP: There is an official TWRP version (maintained by @modpunk & @derf elot ): https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiaxz1compact.html
Maybe you can update the information in your header.

Your suggestion would be valuable if you share your experience:
- encrypted partition mount and decryption compatibility with LineageOS 17.1/18.1
- partition backup / restore - single / batch - with / without password protection
- other version differential bug report
Im running 18.1 ROM now and its working great. It works so much better than the previous January release, because the network connects properly now after restarting. There is no need to fiddle in the settings to switch to 3G, then switch back to 4G.
I really like it.
Ok, I was bored and I made a mess, I could use some help.
I was on the latest and last 17.1 by modpunk. I updated TWRP to the latest official one. I tried to flash the latest 18.1 by Flamefire (I had to disable zip signature verification. I know ). Upon reboot it spends about a minute on the LOS animated logo then reboots to TWRP. I then downgraded TWRP to the latest by modpunk and flashed his latest 18.1 from January. This bootloops to recovery without ever reaching the LOS logo.
I know this is my fault. This said, what's my best chance (if any) not to have to wipe everything? I read in a post above that downgrading from 18.1 to 17.1 won't work, otherwise that would be my next idea.
Thanks in advance to anyone replying!
EDIT: Silly me. I had just forgotten to flash 11.0 gApps. All is well with the dirtiest flash ever.
It was not possible to boot LOS 17.1 with TWRP version from first post. (fresh flash, etc... ) However when using latest official twrp https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiaxz1compact.html everything works well.
OUTSTANDING!
Thanks for bringing life to this amazing work, you are the best!
Much appreciated.
@Flamefire
Im confused so u continue with updating the security patches every month correct ?
Im confused about the 18.1 u also only update it with securitypatches or also other stuf like making stable and fixing problems orwhatnot ?
Thank you for keeping our trusty xz1 compact alive a little longer.

Does it respond to volume up button presses and in special system restart recovery mode? Prompts for a pin/pattern during login and successfully mount and decrypt the partition? So far no one else has reported using it and so far we knew 17.1 / 18.1 requires a different version. Your experience will help us a lot please share as much experience as possible about the new twrp.

i forgot to mention - i'm using lineage-17.1-20210702-UNOFFICIAL-lilac.zip build (not the latest ..20210720..)
TWRP version 3.5.2_9.0
Magisk 20.4 -> 23
Entering recovery works well, pwr+vol down, vol up after pwr, or when set in Developer submenu - advanced reboot. I have active pin and fingerprint. When entering recovery, twrp asks for password for user 0, using my pin works and twrp decrypts FBE. i can mount and read user data by File Manager in twrp.

KNOWN BUGS
SafetyNet does not pass (Unfortunately, this is not possible as your SoC has hardware attestation... the workaround is to use unsupported mods like Magisk which tbh I haven't tried myself as I don't root my devices, but other users said that plus the SafetyNet Magisk mod works). I posted Rob's solution to SafetyNet / gPay here
SBC HD does not work
Heyyo, allow me to introduce myself. I am Marc "ThE_MarD" Bourgoin and I maintain LineageOS and TWRP for the LeEco Le Max 2 (X2) and was crowdfunded a zippo which I will maintain LineageOS for (with selinux enforcing of course) and TWRP as well. I also own an Asus Zenfone 5z (Z01R) which I maintain LineageOS and TWRP for and I was also donated a Motorola Moto X4 (Payton) which I maintain LineageOS and TWRP for.
I saw there wasn't much custom ROM development for heart and since we already have a pretty good sm8150-common tree set up? I decided to get heart working good on our LOS 18.1 trees, and it does! Everything works good, no major bugs.
I'd like to take this moment to also thank anyone who donated to the crowdfunding campaign for my zippo! Without you? I wouldn't have this epic device in my hands to work on.
Also MAJOR thanks to Zhenxiang Chen (aka pasta_con_tonno, Lucchetto) for all the amazing work he has done on zippo.
Special thanks goes out to Einar Gednochsson (aka kanstmablason, pete80pro) for organizing the crowdfunding campaign for my zippo and also a new one for KuranKaname so he can revamp our kernel.
Thanks also to hypnz, chema f, gawin and Lucky for also working in zippo and to HighwayStar who started the initial trees for heart (Lenovo z5 Pro GT) which zippo trees are based upon and Art_Chen for working on heart and zippo and also bringing us FOD Dimming and DC Dimming.
Thanks again to Zhenxiang and Chema f for figuring out and implementing the QFIL recovery and vbmeta while keeping the bootloader locked
Special thanks as well to @odei0funk @optional_toast @frostyfeety @VinciosFernandes who tested a lot of stuff for heart! Without their reports? It would have been a lot harder to accomplish what we did
On test21 build I uploaded today, I added power_profile needed for battery stats. Please test it to ensure battery usage stats work. If I don't hear any bug reports in about a week's time? I will merge all the heart commits into LineageOS and request official heart builds!
Great release
One question @ThE_MarD , my bootloader is unlocked, because the last TWRP I've installed, to flash with your ROM. To lock the bootloader and install your latest lineage release, do I just need to install this following TWRP?

Or I need something else?
Heyyo @rafman79 unfortunately it's not to simple as that, here's a guide:
Backup everything important off of the device as we will be formatting data
You need to QFIL back to stock https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...t-l78032-stock-firmware-bootloop-fix.3915945/
Next, reboot to bootloader
Then type in...
Code:
fastboot flashing lock
Reboot to system
After it boots in? Reboot to bootloader so we can check it
In bootloader, type this...
Code:
fastboot OEM device-info
If it shows that your bootloader is locked? Then reboot into EDL mode and then flash either the TWRP bootloader locked or the Lineage Recovery version
Then flash required device firmware for LineageOS and then ROM and your GApps if you wish to use it
Reboot to system
Hello. Good stuff!
Is it all works: all slider functions and logic (e.g., taking a call by opening a slider), all rear and front cameras (including IR-camera), stable Wi-Fi, not false-triggered fingerprint?
Heyyo @Atom_Z , yes it all works, otherwise I wouldn't be applying for LineageOS official builds
great job @ThE_MarD ! I Flash your rom for two weeks, everything worked, but a little case of WIFI.
wifi can work but can not connect to a hide ssid.
big thanks for your work.you let my l78032 regain a new life!
Heyyo @niuxue3 , glad to hear you're really enjoying it!
Can you please provide info on your router? Is it WPA3 or WPA2 or WPA1? and is it using TKIP or AES?
I've also applied for official LineageOS 18.1 builds for heart! Just need to wait for LOS team to review

I'm trying install TWRP locked via EDL, but it doesn't install. It reboots but always on official LENOVO's recovery...
@rafman79 , sorry I should have mentioned, as soon as you QFIL flash recovery? Hold the power and volume down and once it reboots into bootloader? Reboot into recovery. If you reboot to system after QFIL install of recovery? The stock ROM will overwrite it with stock recovery.

A new test build is going up. lineage-18.1-20210916-UNOFFICIAL-heart I'm testing the switch to Xiaomi sm8150 Android 11 NFC configs and NFC firmware as I'm guessing the problem is heart's NFC configs are only meant to work with ZUI vendor image if someone wants to test gPay

Release lineage-18.1 lineage-18.1-20210916-UNOFFICIAL-heart - LineageOS for heart #osdn

UPDATE:
I got confirmation it works! gPay now works properly. I have merged it onto the official LOS branch so the next official build for heart will include it. I'm guessing every Wednesday will be the day for our weekly builds.
Optional_Toast made this guide in order to get gPay working:
[Forwarded from Rob M]
Google Pay - Lineage OS 18.1 - 16/09/2021 - Working
I have made a purchase in an actual shop for goods using Google Pay on Heart. My device has a locked Bootloader.
These are the steps I took.
1. Install Magisk
2. Hide the Magisk app
3. Turn on MagiskHide (I did nothing more than this, I didn't hide any other apps rather than those set by default, you may need to hide your bank apps if you have them installed, but I cannot confirm this)
4. Install MagiskHidePropsConf - reboot
5. Install a terminal app (I used Termix)
6. Open terminal and type props (if you're using Termix run su first to grant permissions)
7. Follow institutions https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/MagiskHidePropsConf/blob/master/README.md#usage I chose the "Edit device fingerprint" option and selected the Pixel 5 as the device id.
8. I cleared data for Google Play Services and Google Play Store and rebooted
9. when you open Google Pay you should be able to add card
10. Go to shop, consume.
Heyyo, err, unfortunately, I have some bad news... Recently on LineageOS they merged a repo for AndroidTV devices that used the same KeyHandler name for their special remote buttons which is the same name that heart uses for the slider which broke our build... I'll be renaming it to DeviceSettings which should prevent that error from happening. Since the official build already failed though? We will have to wait until next week for another official build, oof... In the meantime? There is that unofficial test build with the NFC changes that works great with gPay (as long as you do SafetyNet haxxs which tbh I've never tried so someone else would need to guide you guys). I'll probably also be merging a bunch of test stuff I have for display blob updates and reworking the ramdisk to try and make the boot a little faster and also a minor HIDL manifest cleanup.
Update: ok, issue was fixed. A new build was queued so we should still be getting an official build today!
Official build is there and it is glorious.
Heyyo @blairpoodle , I'm glad you're enjoying the official builds bro! A lot of effort was put into our Lenovo sm8150-common trees with a major special thanks going to Zhenxiang Chen for getting it all started and also Rob M for testing almost every build since I started working on heart and helping to get it working on our trees too.
Hi. Problems with bluetooth headphones using the Aptx protocol. Connected but no sound. SBC headphones work without problems.

I was waiting for this clean Lineage port, but i need to make sure that everything works before i give it a go. I only have a single phone and i need pretty much eveything to work (NFC, Camera with decent quality, banking apps and AOD).
I will keep my eye on this thread. Thank you.
Thank you so much.
If I install your microG version now, will I be able to dirty flash the version from https://lineage.microg.org/ when it becomes official?

I am using this build as a daily driver myself and so far everything works well.
As for camera quality: the stock LineageOS camera app is not really good but in the microG version of this build you can install GCam without any issues.

In that case formating data (full wipe) would be required. LineageOS has a preinstalled backup tool which makes it easier for you to import your data after a full wipe.
On a side note: it can take a while for this becoming official since LineageOS only accept source-built-kernels. This build here uses the stock prebuilt kernel from OnePlus because OnePlus released buggy kernel sources (NFC broken).
IMO working NFC is important which is why I will start working on making this official once the NFC functionality get's fixed in OnePlus kernel sources.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

Hi!
Did you use OpenGApps Pico and followed the instructions in exact order?
It is important to reboot to recovery after installing LineageOS vanilla und then flash GApps.

Thanks for reporting back!
I took the instructions from the official LineageOS wiki and did not test GApps extensively since I only use microG.
I will test this and create an update this week where GApps will work.
In the meantime you can use microG if you want.
It also gives you the ability to use Google stuff.
//EDIT: you can also try BitGApps, those are like OpenGApps Pico but smaller.
I updated the GApps instructions accordingly.
If you want to try those please start over again with the instructions.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I like the idea!
I think this can help with testing while working on making this an official port one day and also help with making this project bigger.
I will see what I can do in this regard when I have the time (set up the group etc.)
Best regards

Features over Stock
FM Radio, File-Based Encryption (which allows power-off Alarm to actually work and no annoying PIN prompt half-ways through boot), QTI Bluetooth stack
KNOWN BUGS
ViLTE does not work
4K UHD Video recording does not work in LineageOS Snap Camera app. (A workaround is to use other camera apps like OpenCamera or Gcam Mods)
Touch sometimes doesn't work in Lineage Recovery. The workaround is to use the volume buttons to move around the menu and power to select or to reboot to recovery.
SafetyNet does not pass (Unfortunately, this is not possible as your SoC has hardware attestation... the workaround is to use unsupported mods like Magisk which tbh I haven't tried myself as I don't root my devices, but other users said that plus the SafetyNet Magisk mod works)

Heyyo, a new test build is going up! It will be ready within 10 minutes of this post. lineage-19.1-20220406-UNOFFICIAL-Z01R is stable and pre-official! This is what the official builds will be like whenever 19.1 goes live (whenver that is? No idea lol). Offline charging bug is fixed and QTI bluetooth too thanks to Edward's kernel.

This rom now official right ? I saw it on lineage official download with nightly status.
Anw, can i just download the nightly and update using updater or should i use sideload to update ?
Heyyo @semuabaik, yes we are official now! One of 19 devices that got official builds of 19 heh
You will need to manually update to official as OTA via Lineage Updater only works if you're already on an official build that is the same version. Upgrading versions must be done manually as any additions like GApps would need to be updated too.

Ah so the step is the same when i updated from 18 to 19.1
But i can't get my laptop to detect my phone anymore since i update to 19.1
I tried to change the cable, different slots, etc but nothing worked then i used the same cable to my brother's phone and every cables i tried worked.
@semuabaik you can use USB OTG if you have a USB flash drive or micro SDcard
I am to install lineageos 19, however when I install GApps, the phone gets stuck at the boot animations. I have wiped the phone and started from scratch 3 times. Any thoughts?
Edit: I am going to try the GApps version that doesn't specify 64 bit and report back.
Update, it boot loops no matter which version of GApps is used. I might go back to one of the builds that isn't a nightly and try that.

This is a fantastic surprise. Thanks so much @ThE_MarD & team! It is working brilliantly. Not at all what I'd expect from a nightly.

If you are running Windows, download the (Windows 8) USB drivers directly from ASUS support. Unpack and direct device manager to the unpacked drivers. Works up to W10 for ADB in powershell (prefix with .\), not sure about W11.

First time go for me & device can be restarted without issue. Wrote the recovery image, OS and gapps to SD rather than using ADB, but otherwise followed the official instructions using:
20220516 nightly
gapps version MindTheGapps-12.1.0-arm64-20220416_174313
GL if you give it another go!
Heyyo @Cyb3rk1ll , can you please specify which GApps and package name it is you are trying to install?
@Incoherent Ian , tbh it's crazy how good Z01R works on custom ROMs! It actually works best out of all my devices too haha... Only real downside is Widevine L1 because Asus wiped DRM keys on bootloader unlock...
From what I've heard? Newer Asus devices don't wipe DRM keys, so they can do L1 the lucky buggers
Hi, its possible relock the bootloader s SafetyNet pass im test?
So I believe I managed to brick my phone while retaining access to TWRP... I'm kinda panicking right now and would appreciate some help.
(I never flashed GAPPs throughout this as I want to degoogle my life, but I had them before)
I was running EvolutionX and decided to clean flash the latest LineageOS build. No errors, but booting resulted in it rebooting straight back to recovery. TWRP logs mentioned Android Rescue Party with reason enablefilecrypto.
The only thing I did that wasn't usual was flashing a new version of TWRP directly to boot_a instead of just boot.
Wiped Data and Cache, tried again, same thing. Restored my EvolutionX backup. Now it just got stuck on the Powered by Android screen, didn't do anything. Clean flashed EvolutionX and after a few reboots it entered a cycle of lockscreen for 2 seconds - boot animation - lockscreen.
This is when I decided to use the Linea recovery, use ADB sideloas and follow the installation steps as closely as possible, which resulted in the same recovery bootloop. Somewhere throughout all this I tried the LineageOS build just before the last (maybe the latest was broken) to no avail.
Sorry for the wall of text but I wanted to explain all that I've tried. I'm not sure what to do anymore. What can I do?
Heyyo @DarkAlpha.Sete sorry but for some reason, I didn't get a notification for your post.
Just to check, when you said clean flash, did you format data? Wiping data in TWRP doesn't count as it doesn't format the part of the partition that handles encryption and I'm unsure if EvoX or other ROMs even have any encryption on Z01R.
On LineageOS, we use File-Based Encryption to ensure future compatibility with encryption on Android as Google has depreciated Full-Disk Encrytption back on A10. ZenUI stock ROM used FDE, so definitely coming from stock a Format Data is required (and tbh recommended on any device anyways).
Your device isn't bricked, it's just a matter of finding the solution and I suspect it is encryption is the issue.

Intially, do I did not. Something I later found to be a mistake when chatting with the guys over at IRC. I also tried clean flashing with a regular format again to no avail. Even tried the LOS recovery and followed the install instructions as closely as possible (sideloading). TWRP logs would show a message about failing to enable file based encryption (Android Rescue Party). LOS just gave me a screen asking to factory reset, which solved nothing.
I also tried just flashing EvoX again (had no encryption), but it just rebooted back to recovery. Do note that every time I flashed LineageOS/EvolutionX I either formatted or wiped data and tried on both slots most of the times. Nothing changed. Another thing of note is that I was never flashing gapps (trying to degoogle).
Later I even tried LOS 18.1, but no boot as well. By the way, 19 rebooted to recovery right after the Powered by Android screen, but 18.1 got to the boot animation... and stayed there for 15 minutes after which I gave up and flashed stock via the bootloader. Tried flashing LOS again after stock - same thing -, so I'm on stock now.
Sorry for this insane wall of text, but I didn't want to miss anything. Hopefully anything can be taken out of this.
Hmm super odd... Ok, next time you try it, can you check via TWRP if there is anything in here? And if so download a copy and send it to me?
/sys/fs/pstore
Or you can do via terminal
Code:
adb pull /sys/fs/pstore
Dear @ The_Mard
First and foremost, fantastic and fabulous development. You have practically extended the life of the Asus Zenfone 5Z by a straight 12 months! As such in India, 5G - with all band support will take 6 to 12 months (especially handsets with mmwave support), till then I can manage with 5Z.
I have 3 sets of queries / doubts which I have posted as 3 different posts - for better understanding and clarity! When you do have spare time, please do share your thoughts - in the following posts!
I have 3 - 5Z mobiles and I use 2 as my daily driver and 1 as back-up. Yet to update Lineage OS - planning to start with Lineage OS from September 1st. Got to clarify before going all out.
@ThE_MarD
My 1st / First Set of Queries! (My Handset is ZS621KL (Asus Zenfone 5z - 8 GB - 256 GB)
Would like to understand, whether the Lineage OS 19.x will support the standards features of Qualcomm 845 Chipset?
1. Cellular LTE Carrier Aggregation Support - 2x20 MHz carrier aggregation (Up-Load), 5x20 MHz carrier aggregation (Download).
I'm on Jio Network and I have CA supported SIM. Standard Asus ROM used to indicate 4G+ as the network indicator. Will Lineage OS support 2CA for Upload and 5CA for download?
2. Wi fi Support - Does it support Peak 256 QAM Wi-Fi, MU-MIMO & Multi-gigabit Wi-Fi. For MU-MIMO, is it 2x2 or 3x3?
3. Will Lineage OS support Qualcomm® Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 4 technology?
4. Does Lineage OS support all the APIs - Vulkan® 1.1, OpenCL™ 2.0 Full, DirectX® 12 & OpenGL® ES 3.2?
5. Will Lineage OS support Qualcomm® aptX™ audio playback support & Qualcomm® aptX™ HD?
@ThE_MarD
My 2nd / Second Set of Queries!
These set of queries are from your initial logs #
1. Is the ViLTE working now?
2. any plans to enable 4K UHD Video recording in LineageOS Snap Camera app itself?
3. Is there anyway to activate Widevine L1 using some method - from any other Asus Phone or any other 845 Chipset model or something of that sort? Will writing to Asus through email or Asus Forums help? I can attempt, in case if it's feasible!
@ThE_MarD
My 3rd & Final Set of Queries!
1. Lineage OS Updates - When I check for updates in Lineage OS, I see the update files listed as full 900 MB or so - which means it's a full file download.
Not only it takes bandwidth, but, it seems to rewrite the whole code once again and not merely update the changes alone.
The official upgrades used to be incremental and small in size - where-in I know that it only updates the relevant part of the code which requires change.
Is my understanding right or am I off the standard lineage logic?
I'm also worried that one such FULL LINEAGE update one day will knock off my data and will start as if it's going to be a FRESH upgrade! it will disturb my day to day life an hence such questions!
2. Since I will be moving to Lineage OS, is there any app - which If I install in mobile will keep sending the errors / bugs as log file to the developer? This will help pass the bugs issues / automatically!
If my understanding is right, then the lines in the log file will be (possibly) coloured differentially - which means all error lines will be RED in colour which will help you to address the issues!
Point 2 above is just my wish list and hence was checking if an option of that sort is possible - either automatically or manually!
@ThE_MarD
