Buy A70. After the last update the fingerprint is working fine. That is the only issue I had with it.
S8. It won't get android 10 tho, but that's fine compared to how stable that flagship is. Check out the bugs and issues the A70 has, and then make your choice.
I have S8+ and A70 . S8 is better for me .

if u want a big display, a huge battery n latest OS go for A70 .
but if u want a good camera go for s8.
in day to day performance i didn't find much difference between the two. i am not a hardcore gamer. i do play games but not crazy graphic games like asphalt or something. i did run asphalt on it just to see the performance n well it didn't lag.
S8 but the Plus one, the standard S8 has a low lasting battery life.
Had an s8, replaced it with an A70. Wouldnt go back, the A70 is better in just about every area that matters to me.
any questions, fire away.

How didn't asphalt lag? It's literally not optimized for this SoC.

No idea about that. But it didn't lag on my set. I'll try again n see if it really lags or not.
Edit: so just tested asphalt 8 again. The game simply just doesn't run on high graphics. It's stuck at medium. But didn't face any lag.

For this time. Playing Games on Note 8.0 is ok. I have Fifa 2012, MC4, Fieldrunner 2, Real Rancing 3 and them run ok. But, I think for a longtime isn't good choice.
My son just got this tablet and I can tell you every game we have put on it has worked flawlessly. For us any game that works on my 10.1 has played as well if not better on the note 8 (including real racing 3).

not that i agree completely..

All devices with Exynos 4412 are proved to be great in stability test, almost no throttling.
I'm doing a complete thumb suck here, but I expect the mali400 gpu that's in the Note 8.0 to start showing it's age in a year to two years.
What I mean by that is top games will still be very playable... But lag will become more and more noticeable in certain areas of the game. Either that or some of the bells and whistles will be turned off in the version that's 'officially' available to us on the Play Store.
After all... There will be a never ending push for ever more demanding games to 'show off' just how much better flagship devices are to previous generations. The Note 8.0 has a weaker gpu than the phone I bought 2 years ago... It can't be *that* much longer before it can no longer keep pace...
Just sayin....

I think note 8.0 better. And maybe 6 month for heavy game. Normal games is no problems. Sorry for my bad English.
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda app-developers app
The note 8 is very fast but uses the Mali 400 GPU, an older (is it two years old now?) GPU.
For gaming, I'd hold off until after Google I/O to see what devices are announced. If the N7 is refreshed with the Mali 604 or so (and/or a Tegra 4) and a decent display, you might want to wait until it can be ordered.
In ordinary use, the GN8 is the fastest Android device I've used, and has the least lag of any Android device I've used. The Nexus 7 is very good, but it's just not playing in this league. I'm sure there are some Tegra optimized games that the N7 will do better on, but the UI overall is not this quick.
Incredibly fast in my use, and I play numerous graphics intensive games. DEFINITELY better than n7, trust me, I've owned both

Can the Mali 400 GPU be overclocked with a custom kernel in order to squeese a little more performance from it?
Overclocking the Tegra 2 GPU on my ASUS Transformer as well as the CPU made a big difference in its gaming performance.

I'm having a little trouble tracking down exactly when the Mali-400 MP gpu was first released, but here's an article on it from 2008: !!!
http://beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=48319
It was still a pretty beefy gpu in the Galaxy SII in 2011... But as far as I know was upstaged by the Adreno 220, which was to be found in the HTC Sensation (the phone I bought in 2011).
Some more info from back then:

I'm thinking about getting a tab pro 8.4 WiFi only (320) and have a few questions.
1-just how laggy is touchwiz. This is my first samsung and have no experience with touchwiz. Does the general ui lag when switching between homescreen pages or moving through apps.
2- does resolution greatly affect the graphic performance. My existing phone (xperia P) can't handle heavy game's or websites. I need to know if the gpu is any good or not. Does it run dead trigger 2 on ultra high smoothly or asphalt 8 maxed out smoothly?
I need something to last me a few years.
3- is web browsing smooth?
4- is 2 gb ram sufficient? Are there too many redraws?
5- how bad are the WiFi signal drops. I live in a small apartment so this does not matter much.
6- any other flaws I should be worried about? Over heating etc.
7- is the contrast ratio acceptable? Blacks dark enough?
I couldn't find conclusive answers to these on the web and hopefully this will help future buyers. (including me )

Have had the 8.4 pro for a couple months now and I can attest to the fact that it is a nice tablet. Screen is fantastic and performance is smooth. Gets great wifi signal in my house which has concrete walls that make it difficult to get signal for most devices. Only real problem I have with it is the android experience overall on the tablet. Many apps display stretched versions of phone apps (twitter, mlb at bat, etc) and web browsing could be better.

Its not the kind of thing where it locks up the device for a significant amount of time (seconds or even 1 second) but just a lack of general fluidity (split seconds of lag) within TouchWiz itself (not within 3rd party apps) when swiping through home screens, going back and forth to app drawer, etc. Really not the type of thing we should be seeing at this point with higher-end Android devices. So while disappointing, many folks are probably fine with it. Me on the other hand, got tired of it after a couple months, rooted and flashed a CM-based custom ROM, and much happier with the fluidity now.

If you are asking such questions about gaming and RAM, I have trouble believing you will be satisfied with any device for a "few" years. Maybe 2 years tops. But really the best you can do is by the best tablet you can afford (and the Pro 8.4 is a great contender) and hope for the best in terms of it being "future proof".
I'm not much of a gamer, so I can't help you much here, unfortunately.

I have had no issue with WiFi. The Pro 8.4 has as good or slightly better WiFi reception as other Android devices I've used. I use my Pro 8.4 on my back porch, with my WiFi router being in the front of the house and on the 2nd floor.

I had a minor issue with the battery meter sometimes not displaying properly after a charge. It would still read something like 50 or 60% when I had been charging it for long enough to be full. After a reboot, it would read 100%. Happened fairly occasionally, maybe once a week or a couple times a week. Others have noted similar issues.
This seems to be software based, as I haven't encountered this on my current CM ROM. And possibly this has been fixed in newer stock software.
Nothing else I've noticed since owning the tablet since April.

Subjective. I'm used to LCDs, so the blacks are dark enough to me, and the colors look realistically vivid. If you are coming from AMOLED, you might feel differently. An LCD will never going to meet the infinite contrast ratio of AMOLED.
@redpoint73
Thankyou.
I should have termed it better. I didn't mean lag but delay and lack of fluidness. You phrased it perfectly.
Like you said, other than the tegra k1 sheild I doubt that any device is "future proof". What I meant was that if it is capable of running modern games maxed out. Obviously better games with higher demands will come but for the moment this will probably be sufficient. What worries me is the resolution. It's far greater than 1080p and I was worried if the adreno could handle games as they grew more demanding.
The contrast on my xperia P is terrible ( whites are 900 nits. Figure the blacks.) and at the moment any display would look darker. As this is my first tablet I didn't have anything good to compare it to (other than an android 1.5 tablet ). So I hoped that someone with past experience could tell me better.

"Lag" is as good a term of it as any. I just wanted to clarify to anyone that has not witnessed it firsthand, it just a lack of fluidity, and not like you are staring at screens loading for seconds on end, or anything like that.
@redpoint73
I pretty much expected that. One more question. How long does is take for the screen to turn on after pressing the power button?
My father owns a galaxy s3 and turning on the screen takes about 2 seconds. On my xperia P it's instant. I'm guessing it's something to do with touchwiz.

Actually seemed pretty instantaneous on TouchWiz. I've been on CM for a few weeks now, so that's just by memory. Actually, its a bit slower on CM, but still not 2 seconds. Maybe 1 second.

Well, not "unplayable" in usual sense. Thing is, this phone tends to overheat and slow down, and that causes FPS in GTA:SA and RR3 to drop to 20 or so -> which is far from smooth, but still playable.
And yeah, 2k resoltion is a bit too much for 330.

I wish devs gave more support in regards to changing resolution and settings for Android games... A little like the GTA games have attempted.
But thanks anyway

Yeah. Wished it ran at a higher frame rate. 30 seems like it's struggling which clearly isn't the case.
Cheers for the reply
it performs better in small phones but not on op3
And I mean games like Duke Nukem 3d smoothly. I have an S7, and the only reasons I would update are the 120hz screen, the bigger screen, and being able to play games like this smoothly. With the S7, the FPS become unplayable in some places, while decent in others, it's not responsive enough overall.
There is a port but it sucks, I want to play from dosbox. Anyone by any chance has tried it?
Also, on paper, is the S22 much more powerful compared to S7 to assume it will work?
Idk but it lagged hard for me with most games. Here you can see s10e snapdragon 60fps stable, no lag. S22 exynos 35-45 fps unstable af lagging hard on modern ops 2. Also see CPU and Temperature. I'm back to the s10e !

I don't game but compared to the dual drive Note 10+ the S22U is a downgrade.
1tb max of overpriced unexpandable storage... the S22U might as well be an iPhone. Android 11/12 were the last straw, dead camel.

As far AS I know, all emulation needs optimization to a specific hardware. Maybe dosbox has to do some code to run well on Exynos 2200 and SD 8 gen 1
Something seems to be busted, at least on Exynos units but I wouldn't be surprised if Snapdragon ones are affected too. But my guess is that this is softare-related.
For example, in SEGA Genesis emulation, games which can be run fine even on low-end chips stutter while the game is in focus. But if you touch the screen or make the status bar/navigation appear, the performance becomes as phenomenal as it should be.
If it's a game that isn't being emulated, though, like Dead Cells, there's no lag.
