Adaptive Power Saving - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

hi,
So I,m using the adaptive power saving mode that is supposed to learn my usage habits and adjust the performance of the device based on these habits. But when I leave it unused for a while and then turn it on I notice, in many cases, that it is set to the high performance instead of medium power saving mode for example (since it shouldn't need a lot of power to operate while in standby).
I work in a place where network reception isn't good, could it be the reason?
Did anyone use this feature and notice the same?

Hi,
On my phone I need to set it first to "optimised" then enable the adaptive power save.
I high performance, adaptive power save is greyed and can't be activated. It never set it automatically to adaptive when in high performance.

Best not to use no power management.
I package block this apk*.
No 3rd party power management including Samsung's.
Eliminate any unneeded power eating rogue apks including system apks.
My Note 10+ runs much better and longer now...
Android does this very well by itself.
(AT&T variant running on Pie)
*Was set to optimized with only fast charging toggled before I package blocked it. Fast charging still works.
Toggling any other switches in the drop down menu other than fast charging will cause run issues including excessive battery usage.
Counterintuitive.

No that's not fast charging near peak rate.
Depends where you are on the charging curve; between 5-70% is where it peaks if not too cold or hot. Starts to ramp down somewhere between 72-80% then again at 90% and more as it nears 100%
It may not fast charge if the display is on!
Fast charging in the high rate zone will be about 3200-5000 mAh for the N10+:

[Q] Huge battery drain by display (screenshots)?!

I got massive battery drain done by display, no matter what rom using. Brightness set to minimum, no animations at all. And its really killing my nervs. Most biggest battery drain (drop-down) is from 100% - 85%, within an hour! (SLCD model)
EDIT: flashed other radio few days ago, recalibrate battery, nothing helps..
EDIT2: CPU is downclocked to 768 mhz max.

Like on every electronic device (with screens) the display is the most power-hungry component.
So the readings are OK - I have an AMOLED display and mine is always around 65-75%.
Battery life is excellent.
And BTW, it is not a huge battery drain, but only shows what ate most of your juice - and of course the display eats it most of the time.
I saw battery stats readings with only 15-20% battery usage... so i though this may be something wrong.
Yes, those were on Froyo ROMs, but were not accurate - in all 2.3 based ROMs (even official) the stats for the display are bigger.

Do you think that display does not consume any power? Rethink!
If you keep the screen ON continuously then it consumes the battery a lot. Does not matter if it is AMOLED or SLCD. Keep the brightness low and timeouts short to get better battery life.
Screen consumes the most of power on a phone. In addition to mobile/WiFi Internet connection (during heavy traffic) and video encoding (camera), decoding (playing videos).
Watching films on a phone in a bright environment over a mobile connection would be a killer if you want to try
Phone calls drain the battery much less than screen. Same about listening musing while screen is switched off.

That was with about 3 hours of gps on and using Google maps and a route planner for my deliveries today. I don't know if that's good as I've yet to use it like this before.
I have all off screen and on screen gestures turned off except the 3 fingers for screen shot. Auto brightness and wifi was off today as well.
The other day I let my phone idle for 9ish hours while I slept and I lost 4%, that was also putting the cell data to edge though.
I also use the greenify app, not the built in greenify. Haven't messed with the built in greenify does it work the same way?
Tapped out on my beastly OPPO Find 7a
This has got to be a bug...
Unplugged, drove to work and noticed no drain on the monitor.
The phone was trickle charged by my router though overnight, not through the OEM charger
I disabled the gestures, that helped a lot.

Battery

Can I set my mobile to stop charging after a certain percentage?
I don't think so, only scenario I have seen regarding this, is when rooting, max charge level of 80%, but I know of this when I used a note 8
Could I ask why ?

They say your battery life decreases when you charge it fully. I got this off a site: Your phone's battery loses capacity every time you keep it fully charged all night, every night. About 20% loss per year!
My Tab S6 has even a setting to restrict charging to 85%.

Don't think my Note 10+ has that function:crying:
I also have the Note 10+ and I can confirm that, unfortunately, it does not have the setting to restrict charging to a certain percent.
You could use Bixby Routines to get a remainder (sound or message notification) when charging gets to a certain percentage.

That's a negative unless rooted.
Accubattery let's set an alarm that sounds even with the screen off (which it should be when charging).
Heat and voltage potential kill Li's. The higher the charge and cell temperature, the more damage.
•Li's love short partial charges midrange between 40-70% ie from say 45 to 65%. Partial midrange charging causes almost no wear.
•Avoid charging to 100%; best to stay below 80%.
•Avoid discharging below 30% or if you do only do a partial charge of 20-30%.
As you get nearer to the 6% limit the battery needs to provide more current to meet the fixed mobo V+/milliamp requirements thus more battery stress and heat buildup. Voltage converters need to work harder as well to step up the voltage for the mobo which also produces slightly more heat.
•Avoid letting the battery charge hot (above 99F).
○Avoid charging batteries below 80F and never charge if below freezing without warning phone first as it can cause Li plating which permanently degrades the cell.
Keep phone out of the sun; don't bake it.
•Don't allow a misconfigured apk(s) to constantly run it warm. Excessive current draw increases Li battery wear. An idling 10+ should be relatively cool to the touch.
Find the current drain(s) and correct.
•Fast charging is fine if you remember to not allow deep discharges.
•After about 80-90% to charge rate goes from 2%@min to 1%@min. 62-70% is an ideal charge stopping point for maximum battery lifespan.
○Never store an Li with less than 6%; charge when possible. Li's self discharge at a 2-3 rate per month.
They auto shutdown at 6%; if the voltage falls too low their protection circuitry will permanently disconnect the cell rendering it useless. It takes about 2-8 weeks for this voltage drop to happen in a cell at 6%.

Question Protect battery option

How many use this option? If so, is it worth stretching battery life to decrease the time between charging?
Really its the first time i saw it.
I left it off.
I use all my phones the same and havent seen any battery problems.
So i dont see why this one should be different
I turned it on for a day, but this isn't the biggest battery on the market, so I'm leaving it off.
I use it. Prior to this being baked into One UI, I got into the habit of charging my devices to 80% and it grew on me. It's a tip I got from the Accubatery app. It's a simple way to add less wear to your battery.
Oddly, my phone fresh out the box with only 5 charging cycles from 15/20% to 80% has an 88% battery health score. My Fold2 which I had since launch has a 96% battery health score...
There is no consensus as to whether to use this option?

It's all dependent upon how you use the phone. Turning it on will absolutely be better for your phone, but you will lose that 15% battery life. Your charging habits also matter. If you're a person that just always puts it on a charger when not using it, you would see more improvement from turning it on than someone that only puts it on the charger when it's low. The benefits are minimal. It shouldn't largely matter, but if you keep the same phone for many years it will help improve its life.
It's early days with the device so battery performance is still an unknown for a while longer, but I enabled the battery protect option from the start. As of yesterday I'm able to get 5 hours of SOT with the maximum charge at 85%. That performance holds up over time and I'll end up leaving the option enabled.

Thanks!

I use the protection when I'm home, 5 days a week. I just place the phone on a wireless charger when not in use during the day.
When I'm going out, I'll turn it off to get the full 100%.
Frankly I love the option to do this. I used to use an app that notified me at 90%. Now I don't need to bother. My only gripe is that I can't easily set a toggle for the setting. I'm planning on finding the setting name with adb and using tasker to create a toggle, preferably on a weekday frequency
I turn it on because I usually charge overnight. Leaving phone trickle charging at 85% is less detrimental to battery compared to 100%
i use it, still got 5hrs sot
Got a doubt. Does the Battery Protection Mode works when the phone is charged in switch off state ? By switch off I mean completely switched off not just locking the screen of the phone.

works with off state.

Is there any way to limit CPU usage to 70% WITHOUT disabling auto-sync?

If only Power Saving Mode let you choose whether to disable or enable auto-sync. Is there any way to somehow enable Power Saving Mode (to limit CPU to 70%) without disabling sync? I can't miss notifications but want to save some battery.
Running in anything lower than the optimized power setting really screws the N10+ up. More of an emergency measure than a normal operating state.
With a good battery you should be getting 10+ hours SOT if optimized... and days of standby time.

I get 5-6 hours MAX of SOT and 6 is pushing it. AccuBattery has my health at like 93% so the battery isn't bad by any means. I regularly let the phone put unused apps to sleep and I never game.
I really just want to find ways to squeeze the most life out of battery without crippling my ability to get notifications as they arrive.
Something not right. Even with a degraded battery needing replacement I get a lot more than that.

AccuBattery's estimate for mine seems a bit worse than yours, but 10 hours of SOT isn't something I've ever been able to get. My estimated capacity is 3,908 (94%) of 4,170 mAh.

That's not bad. It needs to be optimized more if you want to increase the SOT.
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services when not needed. It's needed for Gmail, Google backup Transport and Playstore but not much more. I always have Playstore disabled as it's a troublemaker. Any cloud apps running in the background are also skewing the battery life.
I use manual brightness control; excessive brightness wastes battery and pixels. I use dark mode and themes to conserve display, battery and eyes. Also use Package Disabler to disable about 70 apks I don't use.
