[Q] Huge battery drain by display (screenshots)?! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got massive battery drain done by display, no matter what rom using. Brightness set to minimum, no animations at all. And its really killing my nervs. Most biggest battery drain (drop-down) is from 100% - 85%, within an hour! (SLCD model)
EDIT: flashed other radio few days ago, recalibrate battery, nothing helps..
EDIT2: CPU is downclocked to 768 mhz max.

Like on every electronic device (with screens) the display is the most power-hungry component.
So the readings are OK - I have an AMOLED display and mine is always around 65-75%.
Battery life is excellent.
And BTW, it is not a huge battery drain, but only shows what ate most of your juice - and of course the display eats it most of the time.

I saw battery stats readings with only 15-20% battery usage... so i though this may be something wrong.

Yes, those were on Froyo ROMs, but were not accurate - in all 2.3 based ROMs (even official) the stats for the display are bigger.

Or were the results of people barely using their phones sharing misinformation. Whomever has anything else on top of their list other than display, is barely using his device. Eod

Do you think that display does not consume any power? Rethink!
If you keep the screen ON continuously then it consumes the battery a lot. Does not matter if it is AMOLED or SLCD. Keep the brightness low and timeouts short to get better battery life.
Screen consumes the most of power on a phone. In addition to mobile/WiFi Internet connection (during heavy traffic) and video encoding (camera), decoding (playing videos).
Watching films on a phone in a bright environment over a mobile connection would be a killer if you want to try
Phone calls drain the battery much less than screen. Same about listening musing while screen is switched off.

Crazy battery drain after upgrading to 3.9, program to test?

I think my thread got deleted due to the crash, just reposting
I'm having crazy battery drain after upgrading to 3.9, about a percent a minute. Is there a program I can use to see what program is using all that juice?
The monitor function of SystemPanel is great for tracking down problems like this.
Also, if you're phone isn't sleeping, checking partial wake usage in Spare Parts will tell you what is keeping it awake.
Thanks for the quick response, I'll monitor usage for a day and see what comes up.
Have you checked your awake time vs. uptime in battery stats?
I think I found the problem, it was a corrupt copy of wireless tether that I had installed, the battery life seems okay now, still lower then what I was getting before hand. I'll post some screens here later. As for the uptime vs. awake time, I'm at 23:30:51 uptime vs 3:46:46 awake time, battery is currently at 43%

wow thats good, how do u get such good battery, i would normally only get 1:30:00 or something around there for awake time before mine would die, are u using set cpu?
I got...
32:48 up / 4:57 awake. At 37% battery.
I'm using the new OTA deodexed by Myn along with the new radio package (radio, wimax, pri, nv) by caulk. Nothing else! Set CPU is uninstalled. WiFi is on 100% along with background apps/auto sync. Mobile Networks only on when I am out of the house and without WiFi or 4G. I actually get good battery life on 4g if I keep the mobile networks off.
Here are some screens from my phone. This is after a normal days usage for me, do these seem normal for my kernal/ROM?
(This is without any type of OC/UC utility, I don't ever use those anyway)

I'M using Oxygen 0.2.2 Beta Rom. Yesterday I recalibrate my battery, closed unnecessary programs, turn off wifi, 3g, gps and bluetooth. Morning I checked battery level and shocked battery leves was about %75. I checked if there any memory leaked program but I couldn't find something like that.
Display used battery percantage dramatically high?
What is the problem? Screen was turned off naturally.
'My Battery Kills Me' - sounds like the title of a cheap horror film - LOL
How long is 'overnight'? 8, 10 hours?
25% in that time sounds quite reasonable to me.
@cr1960 25% over 8 hr with wifi and 3g off is not normal and if you experience this i would check what is causing your drain.
@yapay Install current widget, place it on one of the home screens and set it up to wright to the log every 5 min. Then turn your phone in to flight mode overnight and the next day check the log, if you have more than 1 mA usage regularly during the night there is something using to much power. Install a monitoring app from the market and let it run during the night to find out what.
If it's mostly around 1 mA than your problem probably is gone after another charge.
Screen is very high for only 1.5h ish. Looks looks like you have high brightness settings and a lot of white/blue images being displayed.

There is a misunderstood. I checked battery status after woke up and that was 60% display usage. After that I used phone during breakfast and later my battery was 18%.
Something is wrong...

(TIP)Possible battery drain solution for LTE devices.

Like many here I've been having battery drain issues since the day I purchased the Galaxy Nexus. I also purchased the extended battery since day one. I've been reading through every single forum on how to reduce the battery drain and none seems to have worked for me. I've tried switching to wifi, 3g only, no email push, no google+, etc and my phone at 100% battery would lose almost 30% within 2 hours idling. Then I was looking at the settings and I came across the Developer Options/Background process limit and limited my background process from Standard to At most limit to 1 process and my battery has improved tremendously. Prior to making the change the Android OS was using 80+ % on idle (Wifi or 3g didn't make a difference), now it's uses around 20 or less. On idle I'm seeing around 4% or less an hour vs 15% battery drain.
Please remember this may or may not solve YOUR battery drain, but it has definitely helped mine and I just wanted to share with the community on what else you can try.
I've had pretty good results with my battery. I think some of ya'll are either just playing around with it too much or have some energy-sucking apps out there.

Or that you don't have a connection to the data network.
Just say'n. (I do the same thing at night)
I had Wi-fi enabled for 12 hours, and the battery only dropped to around 85%. I have been on 4G for 5 hours now, and the battery is now down to 13%. I'm going to use a Wi-fi/3G combination tomorrow. Oh and I also have my phone rooted/underclocked to 900Mhz.

A single screen shot shows us absolutely NOTHING about battery life.
Your battery is also almost full...
Use the phone a full day 100% to 5%, then screenshot your overview, graph, screen on, awake, and signal times. THEN we'll be able to tell.

sorry i missed the first pic my question is i am 82% after 1 hour of screen time with heavy use that means i am getting 5 hour on screen time if that so its very good.

My first day was like this after charging it for the first time when immediately opened it. I found my brightness to be all the way up by default and set it to auto, substantially improving my battery life.

Still means absolutely nothing. Use it 100% to 5% and then report your usage.
I'm using liquidsmooth 1.3, just got this...is this on par or could I be doing better? Didn't browse the web much though, only lurked around xda cos I noticed chrome really sucks the juice

battery life is definitely improved on 4.0.4 , i'm getting between 45min-1hr more screen ON time (mostly surfing and reading xda) than on 4.0.2
i use live wallpaper and autobrightness, wifi always ON, everything stock with no tweaks, stock 1750mAh battery
Can you also post the battery voltage when you almost depleted your battery?
It can let us to see if the battery is correctly calibrated to show the proper percentage value. I encountered up to 1 hour different in screen on time with a non calibrated GN.
To know your voltage, dial *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#info#*#*) (no need press call).
Go to battery info and see the battery voltage value.
The galaxy nexus will always get awful battery. I have never gotten over 2.5h screen time and.I have tried every rom, literally. I can't really get over 14h stanbdy either.
I can verify I seem to have better battery life after the 4.04 update.

Is there any way to limit CPU usage to 70% WITHOUT disabling auto-sync?

If only Power Saving Mode let you choose whether to disable or enable auto-sync. Is there any way to somehow enable Power Saving Mode (to limit CPU to 70%) without disabling sync? I can't miss notifications but want to save some battery.
Running in anything lower than the optimized power setting really screws the N10+ up. More of an emergency measure than a normal operating state.
With a good battery you should be getting 10+ hours SOT if optimized... and days of standby time.

I get 5-6 hours MAX of SOT and 6 is pushing it. AccuBattery has my health at like 93% so the battery isn't bad by any means. I regularly let the phone put unused apps to sleep and I never game.
I really just want to find ways to squeeze the most life out of battery without crippling my ability to get notifications as they arrive.
Something not right. Even with a degraded battery needing replacement I get a lot more than that.

3440 mAh is 80% of the battery's original capacity and the end of its useful service life.

AccuBattery's estimate for mine seems a bit worse than yours, but 10 hours of SOT isn't something I've ever been able to get. My estimated capacity is 3,908 (94%) of 4,170 mAh.

That's not bad. It needs to be optimized more if you want to increase the SOT.
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services when not needed. It's needed for Gmail, Google backup Transport and Playstore but not much more. I always have Playstore disabled as it's a troublemaker. Any cloud apps running in the background are also skewing the battery life.
I use manual brightness control; excessive brightness wastes battery and pixels. I use dark mode and themes to conserve display, battery and eyes. Also use Package Disabler to disable about 70 apks I don't use.
