I am wanting to get the latest security updates for the Pixel 3 XL but do not want to upgrade to Android 10 (for the time being).
I saw the latest update for Android Pie for 3 XL was August 2019.
Is there a way to get the current security update without being forced to upgrade to Android 10?

No, the latest updates are all on 10. Is there a reason you haven't taken any 10 updates? If your holding out for a Verizon bootloader unlock, don't hold your breath. No offense to Fern and whoever else is working on it, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I really like having the ability to swap the navigation buttons. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/help/android-10-swap-navigation-bar-menu-t3966439).
Plus...I've read a good few posts where people aren't happy with battery life and prefer going back to Pie.

Bought in May 2019, it has no option to update to Pie after 8.1.0 Oreo, Security Patch 5 Oct, 2018.
I tried to clearing cache data of Software Update app but no good.

Use the VPN trick to force pie but it will be for that country. I my self is still waiting for pie in the UK 8 weeks has passed since its release and still not on my device. As for the android one with the Nokia brand yeah they release updates every month but it can take weeks to hit a person's device.

Bro
HERE IS THE PRO TIP
DONT UPGRADE TO PIE. OREO IS MUCH BETTER. ANDROID PIE ON 5.1 PLUS IS ****. YOU WILL NOT RECIEVE ANY NOTIFICATIONS FROM ANY APPS, YOU WILL BE FED UP WITH THIS PROBLEM.
CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY TO BE ON OREO.
REMEMBER BRO,
IF U UPDRAGE TO PIE, U WILL REGRET IT.

how did you get 8.1.0? I have only 8.0.
Listen to Rajeel, do not upgrade to Pie, hacks to keep notifications no longer work on Pie and also you will not be able to record phone conversations.
hey all. I don't want android 10. is there somewhere/someway I can download the security updates without getting nailed by android 10? thanks.

Unfortunately no, it doesn't work like that.. The security update and OS update are not modular components, you can't mix and match to suit preference/taste.
If you want the security update you will have to download (and install) the update that is provided in it's entirety.
IIRC the official update should've launched around november-december
Its february, what happened? did xiaomi drop the RN5pro from the list?

I think Whyred was never on the list
LOL! Where did you get information RN5 will get Android 10? RN5 Pro got 2 major Android updates 8.1 and 9. Be happy they even continue MIUI. Last MIUI update was in November and after that still nothing. This is not a flagship phone. If you want Android 10 go with custom ROMs.

They were launched with Nougat
Dude has right. There were serious rumors that we would get android 10.
What is the point of android 10 if it is still covered by MIUI skin? I hardly can point out any additional feature provided by android 10. There are several nice to have features, but it also brings along several critical limitation.
I flashed Havoc 3.0 android 10 early January this year, just for the sake of update, after one week immediately regret it. I am back to AEX 6.7 Pie 9.0 since then. The clipboard limitation severely damage several of my daily flows in Automagic. Any wifi/bluetooth related action now require high accuracy location feature to be on all the time. While at pie 9.0, battery saver mode is enough. There is pratically no significant new useful features I can find.
At that time most android 10 cusrom still haven't stable yet nor implementing their features into the ROM. Example, I can't yet find Smartbar DUI in AEX 7.0 Android 10, but it is there in AEX 6.7 Pie 9.0 (that's why I stay on Pie). Rather than having new version but with missing features, I better stay on old version but with full features.
Maybe battery backup is better on Q?

Also, some come with MIUI 9 and others with MIUI 10. You received an updated batch.
If you search "Redmi Note 5 Nougat" you will see that this device was launched with Nougat.

Installing that Nougat on my whyred is going to break my camera, which means that 7.1 wasn"t meant for my device. Indian whyred was launched with 7.1 . Not global one
Sent from my whyred using XDA Labs

That's true, I agree
But I still think xiaomi won't update it to Android 10
I've bought this phone earlier this year (at a big store) and I haven't received an update. I haven't rooted/modified ROM/unlocked bootloader or anything. I used it as it is.
But the thing is that the phone can't connect to the OTA updates, and it should have at least find the latest security patches. What is wrong?

Actualy there is a more recent Pie build with march patches : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82210047&postcount=158
It's weird that the OTA is not working.
I recently flashed Oreo stock rom ( miflash) and upgraded to Pie over OTA, i could only get the 10.18 version, probably other update is pulled to, it was 75mb , maybe just security patch and some software to prepare upgrade to android 10
Hi,
is it possible to keep the stock rom and install newest google security patches?
It would be better to keep everything as it is (also user data) and just install security patches.
I love this phone and I don't need a new one. I'm also fine with the stock rom.
The only thing what bothers me is that the last security patch is 5 months ago.
(im familiar with flashing custom roms years ago: cyanogenmod on galaxy s3, lineagueos on s5. But since then I did not get in touch with the custom roms topic)
Thank you!

If you're on A12 try using Oxygen Updater to see if a later update is available.
Otherwise 1+ has ended updates for the 7 series
OnePlus 7 and 7T Series Will No Longer Get Any Software Updates
OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 7 and the 7T series will no longer get software updates going forward. Have a look at the details.

Yes oneplus ended updates and I don't like custom roms.
So the only option for me would be to buy a new phone just because I want security patches...

Afraid so. Security updates are pretty much over once the manufacturer stops tweaking the patches for a particular line.
Even Google only promises Pixel security updates for 5 years.
