Hi.
Is it possible - if so how to disable automatic software updates?
I don't want to update, checking is turned off in administrator settings, but notifications are still popping up.
Only I can minimize for a maximum of 2 hours.
I don't have root, I want a guarantee.
In the application settings the "software update" option is gray, I cannot turn it off

You can't stop Samsung from sending updates, you can only turn off the automatic download of them. Try hiding the notification by doing a long press on it and choosing to hide it.
Also, why don't you want to update?
I can only minimize for 2 hours.
It is not possible to disable the application in gray via a computer?
I do not want to update because after the last update it is not possible to set smaller icons.
With security from 07.2019 you can still set other values in DPI and icons change.
with this last update this option is gone.
font, appearance changes, while icons remain the same.

I think updates are important, especially since this device still has many bugs. But, if you want to turn them off, then I think you can disable the whole thing through powershell on the computer.

Change your launcher. I said this in your last thread. Don't go trying to block critical updates when the answer is just use a different launcher.

I want to keep the current screen / icon / menu appearance. I don't want launchers.
I didn't notice bugs on the xeo version.
Why do you think updating your system is so important? (apart from minor corrections, e.g. fingerprint)

Security updates are critical. Lauchers only change your home screens and app drawer and can be made to look virtually identical to samsungs one UI launcher, but better and more customisable. Some of them, like the one I linked, even allow you to import layouts from other launchers including Samsung's making the move from the oneUI launcher to a different one an absolute piece of cake. Why would you rather block system updates and mess around with system apps when you can just change the launcher? It makes no sense at all - there's nothing Samsung's launcher does that isn't done better by others.

I thought, would be nice to talk separetly about the KitKat International B510 firmware. Also we can write reviews.
My FIRST impression about this KitKat update is mixed. I missing a lot of features, like Permission manager for push services?!
Video playing is really bad! Standalone and online also. If i open videos online, and rotate the screen, i only hear the sound but the screen flashing all the time. Also video image slides alot!
Sometimes the launcher freez, when scrolling to another page. At multi-tasking when i close app with gesture, (not clicking on "X") it closes not smoothly.
Permission manager is gone? A lot of apps needed that, to work properly. For example: Facebook Messenger Cheat heads blocked, so i cant use it because of that.
Others? Whats your imressions overall?

This is BETA, so it's undestandable to have some issues and missing apps. All apps will be there in the official release.
Is it worth upgrading from B507 to B510 ?

Yes. Give it a shot, it is much faster and all the new functions are running very smooth. The performance is much better.
Update this beta version through OTA (I attended to do beta tester).
No problem with standalone and online video, about launcher seems slightly less fluid, I recommend using a theme created for 2.3 EMUI version.
About the permission manager, I suppose it's changed the method of management with the app "phone management"
I love the new keyboard and the new lock screen !

Yes, im okey with changes, but if it's working well. In phone management you'll not finding any options to set up, permissions neither push options. So it's not a good "change".

I find instead the new implementation significantly easier to use than before, for example, the widget is really functional and also the new management once you understand how it works, I do not mind at all.
It is true, I have not found the settings about notifications, but the rest is "smarter" :highfive:
for me no problem with video playback ( i sugest hwreset)
and Permission manager is now phone manager... so nothing is missing at all ;p
it runs good as for day of usage ;p

@BeyondTheHorizon (assuming your working for Huawei)
My impressions, after updating from B506 to B510. Note that since i have already used Emui2.3 beta (B014) and Emui 2.0 (official) i will not get into mentioning its improvements over Emui1.6.
- Magazine lockscreen is awesome. But i don't understand why magazine option is enabled only for a selected theme, while a few other theme have weather option on lockscreen, and why not instead have them all for all themes. (Also haven't figured out what the "link" option is within the magazine lockscreen menu).
- Overall there is lags and inconsistency in transition and animation speeds everywhere.
Examples:
> Pulling down notification panel has slower animation then when pulling it back up. While on the other hand there is also a jamming lag when notification panel goes back up.
>Random lags when moving about homscreen pages.
> lag in settings sections when entering each settings item.
- I personally dont like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". The combined was much better. Even in the split form, there is design inconsistency, for example in the switch panel there is lot of free empty space on the bottom half and there is no point in having a slide down arrow to reveal just one row of switches. Furthermore it would have made sense to have the switches fill the bottom half, as it makes it easier for one hand usage. But i still prefer the the combined form which just two rows of switches and brightness option, while the rest hidden under the slide down.
- Thankfully the weather 4x2 widget is proper size, compared to the huge size on B506 and B014. But the transparent clock widget (first introduced on Honor 3c & 3x) is not yet available on this rom.
- The video player app is missing (and like others mentioned, the permission and startup apps manager, one hand option and navigation bar hiding option is missing too)
- I was hoping for changes in the "customize" section of the theme changer app. The old problem of swiping right/left a lot to get to the end of the lockscreen styles, or icons types, etc remains a burden.
- As someone said, its time to change the grey color of navigation bar. Either allow users to customize it, or have a number of colors that changes according to apps.
- In contacts "favorite" section, there is Chinese fonts.
- I don't think there is a need to have all the google apps pre-installed. Just a couple of them would be enough, while the rest can be downloaded from playstore.
- The water mark option in camera is nice. Cant find the "Cheeze" to take pics option. The photo editor is great and fun too. Video recorded on camera comes out dark. In case of taking selfie pics, once you hit the shoot button, the screen weirdly gets all yellow before taking the pic. Photos looks grainy too. But im no expert on camera, so i could be wrong.
- The Chinese rom had an app center app, and at times the latest version of the Huawei apps would be available on that. Such app updates are not available on this rom.
- The types of transition effects for homescreen keeps decreasing with every new rom update, when instead we should be getting newer ones added.
- The homescreen icons on this rom appear slightly bigger compared to them on the Chinese rom. Can be noticed when applying emui2.0 theme icons on this emui2.3 launcher.
Good and bad in B510
Good
- Magazine lockscreen is really good. I like it, hope more themes are like that.
- I like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". But I hope they could have a setting to enable/disable it.
- Floating apps are awesome.
- Torch in notifications is very useful.
- Ultra power saving mode changes UI to dark black --> seems convincing that it will save battery life. Overall this rom has decent battery life.
- External SD settings
Bad
- Just hope that when I use other music players it can get the controls on the lock screen. Also, if there was a music slider to skip a few seconds of music was available on lockscreen that would be good.
- Hope that the default launcher could have a drawer. Having all the apps on the screen is messy.
- The radio widget still isn't transparent while the other huawei widgets are. It stands out and looks ugly.
- No permissions manager. It blocks facebook chatheads by default because it draws over other apps. No way to unblock it because permission settings are missing.
- The grey color of navigation bar is horrendous. Hopefully they notice this and they make it black or able to customize.
- Camera pictures look grainy.
- GPS still sucks. Don't know if it is a hardware issue.
- No ART mode
Other
- I don't know what to think about the carrier name. I feel like it's ok, don't hate it or like it.
The carrier name HAS to go! Why do they need to put it there anyway?
I agree with @warea about the notification panel that is better in Emui 2.0. Having it separate could work if you can change the settings of how you want it to be opened.
I find that the rom is a bit laggy most of the time, but for a beta I can live with it.

The carrier name it's something new for this update. And everything else it's really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing is that this ROM must run smooth and fast without any lag when it will be released as official/final. Everything else is just customization that can be added or removed by rooting and installing third party apps.
Also noticed, my phone is really hot, even for simple use. And the battery is really bad on this rom.

I can't stand the round icons that the Pixel forces to appear, often times they're just the app icon in an ugly white circle, especially for third party apps. Is there any way at all to disable them?

July! Thanks
Here it is I had one made up for my mod pack. There's a couple of other tweaks in it. Faster led blink rate and no screen on for plug and unplug of usb cable. Clear launcher data after swapping out apk. You'll need root. Use a root file browser. Then reboot. Then clear launcher data and reboot once more. After that you'll be good to go.

If you try out the Android O beta 4 from Google that just released, it has 4 icon mod display options baked in....

Try lawnchair launcher. Is the same pixel launcher with added feature. One of them is using ur own icon pack. Also found that using latest beta (which support weather). Is actually SMOOTHER than stock pixel launcher. The developer did some tweaking to eliminate any lag or stutter on scrolling or swiping to google now page.
I've never encountered any lag or stutter on the Pixel while running stock. The phone hardware and kernel have been optimized for performance. Are you running any mods on your phone?

Thanks for the tip. I use Nova, the problem doesn't necessarily lie with whether or not the launcher supports icon packs. It's more that most icon packs lack support for every single app I have installed, and in that case I want to fall back on the app's default icon. However even if you switch launchers, on the Pixel those icons still get turned into these ugly white circles which is dumb. I have no idea who in Google decided that it was A+ idea to force that on people without leaving in an option to disable it easily. I mean for example I use the Acorn icon pack cause it's pretty af, but it stopped updating about a year ago and doesn't cover many newer apps. I don't wanna stack icon packs when the default icon looks just fine when not in this weird rounded mode that's forced on my phone. It's bizarre that we have to decompile and manually modify a value of a system app just to get rid of a "feature" that's not even slightly polished but is forced on everyone who owns this phone.

Yeah, this was the only way I could find to do it. Under Edit Current Theme -> Icons there was an "HTC Classical" pack that restored most of my icons to how they were pre-update. Unfortunately not Chrome, Gmail, Maps, and a few others but it's better than nothing. I could never find the "Change Icon Shape" option that everyone else seems to have (even with developer mode enabled)

Then learn how to create an iconpack. They didn't ruin anything, so let's say for example you sold 5 million phones.....how on earth are you going to please 5 million individual users ?
Android is very open source so modifying it is pretty easy. Do some studying and make it your own.

@Mr Hofs Perhaps you don't realize, but HTC has removed the "Change Icon Shape" feature normally available in developer mode with Android Oreo. So, yes, they did ruin it, so to speak. They simply could have left that option available and the solution would have been 2 clicks away instead of having to take time to customize your icons or root the phone to customize the OS.

So i think i fixed the annoying background issue. Here is a link to my icons collection (V1) if anyone would like to try.
These are mostly original icons. Would appreciate some feedback

Just use lean launcher and pixel icon pack... It's basically like stock android
Can't you just use an icon pack with a 3rd party launcher (like Nova, etc)?
Mr Hofs The reason some people are saying that their experience is now "ruined" is because there is the tendency in (forced) updates to get new looks or changes to how things work without any notice the user that doing the update would significantly change the experience by doing that update and not giving the user an option after the update just to keep the look and feel exactly as you come to expect it. People are busy and sometimes a forced change is not something someone wants to deal with at that moment. New looks and features are great, but not always desired and or timing of updates with user current usage need is poor. Changes to expected behavior at ill times leads to negative reactions to the update.
I, quite frankly, dislike the new "squircle" icon look. I like the clean icons with no background or rounded edges. I also recently had to factory reset my phone. The changes start piling up and make the experience "ruined" because you just sometimes want things to stay the way they are and look as expected because there is an inherent comfort with that and you have enough other things to deal with and having too many changes all occurring at once or too frequently might not be popular behavior with some user.
What people like us are saying is that we would rather 1) be told up front what an update will actually do and give us a choice to have the update now, delayed, or 2) at least give the user the option to keep the interface as accustomed to. The only reason to force an interface change should be if a vast amount of interface actions are changed, not just the look.
Is there a way to have this support more than 3 apps? It's ridiculous there's a limit with the amount of ram on this phone
That's a GREAT question, and I'd love to know the answer too. I haven't found one yet though. RAM isn't an issue on this phone. Maybe they worry too many locked in memory will affect battery life too much?
Where did you learn this is the limit? I've gone days without opening an app before and when I go back to it it's right where I left off.
You could perhaps go to the battery saving menu and disable the battery saving for any apps you want to remain running. This may cause some serious background battery usage though, but It may be worth trying out. Also, try running the high performance mode. I've run that mode a lot and never noticed it causing much battery drain over the standard optimised mode.
Coming from Oneplus and using it for a long time I can tell you, the Note 10+ is probably one of the best multitasking phones I've used (including Note 9). Chrome on this hardly ever closes in the background and find it always running and available with all the tabs open. Oneplus phones can hardly keep anything in memory / background loaded for more than 5 mins but but Oneplus phones feel sooooo much more responsive and snappy comparatively otherwise.
The default for background apps is set to, "standard." Which allows more than 3 background apps.
Go into Device Care - > Battery - > App power management
Some apps may have been automatically added to sleep or deep sleep.
You can add or remove apps as needed.

After you add three to "Keep open for quick launching" the option becomes greyed out.
You're right, it's generally not an issue where apps get closed down in the background anyway, but I normally have 4 or 5 that I always wanted 'pinned' to my recents list. Not a big deal, I just found the limit strange, given the phone's capabiities and hardware.

Edit: attachments aren't working, here's a link to the screenshot: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqdgaMVMg2EMirgLXMqey1V1d0Gsdg?e=RGdVeX
I have three settings :
Put apps to sleep
Put apps to deep sleep
Apps that are not put to sleep.
I can add as many as i want in here.
There's an option to Goodlock's Task Changer to keep an app open which is a setting you don't have anywhere else in the system.
But i don't have that long live app in Multistar on my end.
Sorry for digging this up but do all of your apps appear in the "Apps that never sleep" list of apps?
I'm missing quite a few of my apps, aProfiles and Philips Hue for a start...
Anyone has noticed that before? Thnx
Hi, this morning I received a notification of a new system update, release 62.1.A.0.617.
Wasn't able to find any info on the web, so I'll wait for a while before proceeding to update my Xperia.
Do someone have news?
Ciao!
Updated today, can't see any difference so far, other than the security patch level, which is now July 1, 2022.
Dito. No (new) bugs so far.
I had one problem so far - home screen now shows one row of apps less than before the bottom ones just disappeared to my confusion.
@De Greedy same experience here, before the update, my 5x9 app drawer would fit on one screen, now i have to scroll to see the last row.
I used the default display size and font size from settings before and after the update.

Right after the update the phone started acting weirdly, graphics were not smooth but kind of jumping, the wifi was off and couldn't turn it on, notifications history always crashed, but this all were fixed after multiple restarts. However, the software update history only shows previous two updates, but not the current one, despite the fact that software was actually updated (based on quick settings menu version number, checking for updates, security update date, and baseband number).
I've been using it for four days now. Haven't noticed anything bad so far.
I confirm that the spacing between the icons on the screen and in the app drawer changed a little, rows are more separated. Not a big deal for me.
The last update appears regularly in the history.
No other issues at the moment.
edit: there are new emojis

does everyone know how to change UI Color?
To my knowledge, you can't choose, it follows the main color of the desktop image.
Unless you install a different launcher(!)
