7T and 7T Pro custom roms - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I'm in the UK and deciding which model OP7 to buy. Will the ROMs be the same across both models, or will I need to factor in which model will have the most ROMs??

Time will show which one will be better supported by devs. ROMs will be different

Note 7 advice

Hello all,
I am quite interested in this phone cause I am searching for a Nexus 6 successor and I depend on wireless charging. Sadly there are no high end smartphones which will deliver this feature anymore.
Therefore I have two questions:
1. At this time there are two threee custom ROMs for the exynos variant and no for the snapdragon. Will that change?
2. How likely there will be an AOSP ROM and what version (snapdragon or exynos) will suffer most from bugs then?

I know, that is the reason I am asking two questions about ROM development and advice about choosing snapdragon or exynos
Ah I'm sorry I misunderstood. I can't speak for the snapdragon but I have the exynos and it's awesome. Excellent battery life and no heat issues. Sure I have read that the exynos is better for rooting but haven't looked into it in depth as I'm happy on stock for a while. I'm sure someone will be able to help soon.
get an exynos, more development

Model Numbers?

1.I am in searching of a new phone, and i stopped here on the oneplus 3 forum. I saw there are more models (a3000, a3003 dont really know more) around , so i dont know which one to buy?
And i just want to know if i can flash anycustom rom i want on any model of the Oneplus3.
2.Is worth the extra $ for oneplus 3t?
3.Which one has better rom development on xda ONEPLUS 3 or 3T ?
A3000 is American/Chinese, A3003 is EU/worldwide.
All ROMs can be flashed on all model numbers.

2. That comes down to personal choice. I'd say the original 3 has slightly better price/performance - 3T is indeed better on paper, but those differences are almost negligible in real life. That said, I may be a bit biased towards the 3 [emoji14]
Worth mentioning that 3 is not being produced any more so it may be hard to get now.
3. At the moment the OnePlus 3 has better dev support. But 3T is catching up. And in future they will probably have the same support - literally the same ROMs. We already know that kernels can be made to work on both models and AFAIK OnePlus is working on a unified ROM for both devices (which means that custom ROMs should also be able to work on both).

I'm way too lazy to look into it ... better ask some developer [emoji1]
I guess it detects the chipset and selects the profile accordingly.
Probably not possible to do with completely different chipsets, but 820 and 821 are practically the same, just have different clocks (and probably voltages).
Check out blu_spark kernel by eng.stk in 3T development thread. That one works on Marshmallow ROMs on both devices.

Here u go
It's simple.
If you want big development you choose 3. For 3t development it's small. I don't think many users/developers will get rid of 3 to buy 3t.
Update: we already have unified ROMs also (for example Resurrection Remix 5.8.0). So that proves that in the future both devices will share development.

Check last few comments ... With unified ROMs and kernels the development is essentially the same.

Should i buy a Pixel XL Marlin for custom roms ?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

If you want custom roms etc just buy a OnePlus or Xiaomi device they're very popular among developers
oneplus are too expansive for me, but yea i heard that roms are perfect on this, and wich one xiaomi should i go with ? i know that xiomis are chinese phones, but do they work well on french bandwidths ?

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices
Which bands do you need? If you buy from official Xiaomi French store should have your bands but check before buying anything

Mi A2 was just announced will come soon is running Android One, updates should be inline with Pixel Line will have a ton of developement just like the Mi A1 you can see here
Redmi Note 5 also great device a lot of development can see here

The pro is just named that way in other markets I think in india is called the "Redmi Note 5 Pro" But in Europe it's called "Redmi Note 5" Same device just different name
Xiaomi is a bit confusing with it's branding

I am looking to buy a used Marlin as well. The price is much lower then the two phones suggested here. Does anyone have any comments or recommendations? My budget is around $200 USD.

If it has to be a Marlin make sure you buy a non Verizon model as they block bootloader unlock can be a pita to get it unlocked
last I saw you had to pay like $30 to some shady guy to remotely unlock through team viewer...

Custom ROM chances?

Hi dev,
Why aren't there many custom ROMs for samsung s20+ Exynos or s20 series devices?
I feel oxygen os 11 would look great on s20 series devices.
Is there any component of device causing no custom ROM development?
Well... I had an exynos Note 10+ and the development for that phone was pitiful and was why I sold the phone. Thinking of buying an S20+ but only if I see some active development or at least plans
Well as phones ar getting more expensive and rooting less viable, I really don't see a bright future for custom rom development on future samsung phones.

Agree, valid reasons for rooting are evaporating. With app based options offering solutions and Samsung making it more and more challenging it's hard to justify. Especially when one considers the prices for a top shelf device and a very real possibility you'll brick your smartphone. Firmware and CSC's are much more complex than 5 or 10 years back, it's not like the good old days when rooting was more straight forward. With that being stated much of the push for rooting comes from users who fail to investigate which device is best suited for their needs, even within the same model line.

Buy an OP phone if you like that, the S20`s have different hardware so most likely not possible.

Question Poco F3 worth getting for only custom ROMs?

I am thinking of getting the Poco F3, but I would not want to use MIUI and would prefer to use a custom rom.
I watched this video and don't know if what this guy is saying is true or not.
Would it be worth buying this phone if I am only going to be using a custom ROMs, or should I pay more for a phone that has better software by Oneplus, Samsung etc...?
I've used custom ROMs in the past, but it was mainly because my old phone no longer received support. I am on Lineage OS on my Oneplus 5t.
Thanks!
I picked up the Poco F3 BECAUSE there were custom ROMS and there are a few that are already really good so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I may even buy another one and sell my 512GB S21 Ultra. (Update, bought another F3) Don't pay attention to that guy on Youtube, do what you want to do.

Yeah I totally agree. This device is cheap and has all the qualities of a flagship killer. All the devs are interested in it and are buying it to develop for it. So in the future expect to get a ton of Custom Roms and Mods for F3.
You cant go wrong with this device.
Period
Yeah i agree.
Totally agree . I recently picked up one after selling my 3A only for custom rom. I hate MIUI and have already initiated steps to unlock the bootloader to flash custom rom.
I had an redmi 7A and when i saw the bloatware on miui my eyes popped out Jesus Christ.
Not to mention to root the stock rom you need to patch the boot.img specially for this phone and to mention it was 32bit rom on a 64bit CPU arghhh!!!!!
I only bought this device because it had superb hardware for the price and I could flash custom ROMs.
I believe in the community of the custom ROMs and think it is a great deal, I was thinking of getting some oneplus or even Nokia phones but I realized it is one of the best that we could get so enjoy flashing

because I really like the stock feel, and Nokia is driven with an android one.
Hey mate, just flash my F3 right after one week of waiting for bootloader.
Gona say YES, IT IS FREAKING WORTH IT.
Come from Galaxy S9, after so tired with the bloat of Samsung, I flashed LOS, and man it is fast.
But, with my F3 on ArrowOS, right now, it is insanely fast.
Just buy it, you will not regret. But it is my personal opinion. The choice is your.
Within the price range, F3 already deiminated all other option. But with custom ROM, it decimates even the flagship

Just buy it. Performance to price point, nothing wins Poco F3
The only downside is the MIUI that comes with it which is sluggish and buggy. I flashed mine to ArrowOS and loving the device more now.
Have sticked to MIUI 12 and upgraded to MIUI 12.5 where they removed multiple Do Not Disturb schedules, that is when i know is time for me to flash the rom
Ok just watched the video.
His logic makes no sense at all! According to him buying a windows pc and putting Linux on it would be equally stupid. And the "paid devs" are less likely to unleach the full potential of a device then the "unpaid devs" because of model postioning and other commercial conciderations. So... still glad I bought my F3 for the custom roms
just bought poco f3 and I can tell you the MIUI isn't so bad (12.5.3) it is super smooth and with lots of features and configuration in it (double tap to wake and sleep, double fingerprint for flashlight..) themes are also rich. The main weak point is camera app that is not as developed as gcam but... you can instal gcam ports (8.1) that already work very well!! So yes this phone is sort of perfect.
Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM for Poco F3 that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Also, why do all the threads about F3 refer to 11x and K40?
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot

Xiaomi = main brand
Mi, Poco, and Redmi = sub-brands
Mi focus on high end flagship phones, Poco focus on mid end performance phones. Redmi focus on lower end value for money phones
Mi 11x, Poco F3, and Redmi K40 are the same phone targeting different regions with different launch date.
