Wifi Tethering Not Working on SM-N975F with Cricket - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hopefully I'm not missing something obv. but I have a sm-975f variant that is rooted that I am using on Cricket. I'm trying to do wifi tethering using the hotspot feature, but devices are not getting internet. I have added them as approved devices once they connect, but still no internet. I do not have a tethering plan with Cricket, but coming from "vanilla" Android devices for years, I was just able to connect with no problems. Is there something I am missing? Should I use a third-party app?

You have to have the tehering package, my unlocked and rooted Moto Z2 Force never would connect either, also never found any third party apps to work either.

Actually just changed to the updated package with the tethering a few minutes ago. I'll give it some time before testing again to see if that works. Like I said, coming from AOSP and Pixel roms, never had to worry about actually having it included in my plan.

Hmmm..still no internet. I get an IP address but nothing. I was looking and seen that the Note 10+ wasnt on their "approved list" (if that really means anything.) I guess I can call their (existent) customer support to make sure my plan has updated.

I resolved the problem by doing some googleing. The default apn that gets loaded when you insert a cricket sim was missing a setting in the apn type field. It was missing "dun". Once I added that, I was able to get internet on tethered devices. I also moved my sim to slot two which may or may not have helped.
To add, my p2xl did not have the "dun" setting but still was able to tether other devices with no problems so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[Q] Tethering Question - Ports?

OK fellas. Here's a good one for you. I use a Motorola hand-held for work with Windows Mobile on it. I'm in sales, so I use tethering with my phones to send out my orders every day while I'm at work (aka on the go).
Wifi tethering worked EXCELLENT with my Atrix 4G, no matter the ROM. I had a tethering plan, so I didn't need to worry. I got rid of that in pursuit of a WP7 phone and got a HTC Surround. Needless to say I panicked when the ROM didn't even HAVE a tethering option. So, I flashed a custom one. Bam, Wifi tethering worked great.
Fast forward to now, I have a Lumia 900. Nothing has changed, I have the DataPro 5GB Tethering plan, the phone has tethering and it works with my Laptop.. BUT not with my handheld. For whatever reason, it gets hung up on "Creating Data Port" (on the handheld) and will not proceed. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? Does the Lumia block certain ports or something, or do I have to switch phones/wait for a custom ROM?
Thanks fellas,
Nick
Probably not related Lumia. It uses standard WP7 tethering (with the added account check) feature. What's different is that all LTE phones use a new APN called pta in order to connect with LTE (even if you are not in a LTE area). This new APN is known to have additional layer of network filtering on AT&T side. Not much you can do about that. Not sure if it is related to your specific problem. But you can try to switch to older Phone or wap.cingular APN and see what happens (you will loss LTE).

May give it a shot. For some odd reason, it worked today. A few nights ago I removed and re-added the tethering plan online to my account (even though the phone tethered fine with my laptop) and today for the hell of it, I tried it with my work handheld and it went through . We'll see how consistent it is. Thanks for the input/solution, though!

Tethering on Cricket

I would like to tether my Pixel XL and am on Cricket wireless. I am not looking to hack or bypass the provisioning check. The pixel 2 xl is not listed as one of the compatible phones to hotspot with so I can not add tethering to my line, I have tried via the support app, the website and spending an hour on the phone with customer support. I was wondering if I stuck my sim in an iPhone that is on the list of supported phones and added tethering while the sim was in that phone if it would stick when I switched the sim back to my Pixel, if so would it stay through a billing cycle? Anyone have experience with trying this out or know of other non-root workarounds.

Verizon and H3123 - WiFi Calling

I'm guessing I'm probably one of the few people out there using the Xperia XA2 on Verizon. My OG Pixel gave up the ghost yesterday so I picked up one of these XA2s because the price seemed hard to beat. The XA2 is certified under Verizon's Open Development program and functions as an LTE-Only device, with no CDMA connectivity.
Anyway, my question is if there is any way to get the WiFi Calling to actually work on the handset. I can confirm that the feature is still provisioned on my account, but the phone itself doesn't seem to pick them up. There is no option to enable it in the Phone application. If I go into Phone Info (*#*#4636#*#*), there are toggles for both Video Calling and WiFi Calling, but they are greyed out. I really do like the phone, especially for the price, but losing WiFi Calling might be a dealbreaker. Has anyone had any luck here?
Factory software, 50.1.A.12.9.

I recommend you to update to the latest version of the firmware, because after Verizon announced that XA2 is supported to their network, a special update was made for the USA variant of the XA2. Also verify if you have the USA firmware
Hey, sorry for the late response. Thanks for the reply. I am on the latest US firmware, which was required to get VZW compatibility in the first place. Without it, it wouldn't even connect.
No WiFi calling option anywhere, though. Kind of a bummer. Regardless, I've kept the phone. Everything else works pretty much the way I want it to, and fortunately for now I live in a really good service area.

Wifi Calling, Verizon Pixel 2XL, using Straight Talk AT&T Sim no option

Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.
What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.
So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.
Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.

Looking For Sprint A50 Hotspot Hack

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for activating the Hotspot on the A50 (Pie with October 1 update) on Sprint - I'm on an Unlimited Kickstarter plan, and only need hotspot 3-4 times a year for emergencies where I don't have Wi-Fi access. Shortcut Master Lite doesn't allow me to modify LTE Functionality on this phone. I can create another APN and add dun and the hotspot activates as stock, but it doesn't pass Internet data to other devices. I have the unlocked SM-A505U1 version. I like the phone, but if I don't find a workaround I'll likely give up Sprint and go to an MVNO that has hotspot functionality, as anything with it in Sprint's regular plans is crazy expensive by comparison. Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Have you tried the solutions in these threads for the Galaxy S10? I would think it would work the same way for the A50 since they run the same software.

I'm curious if you can get it working, I'm thinking about moving my A50 over to Sprint and this would be great if it works. I was always able to get the hotspot hack working on my previous S8+ and S9+, so fingers crossed!

Yes... I tried that solution... That's where I got the walk-through for how to create the alternate APN. I started to work on it again the other night and it kicked out the SIM for reasons unknown when I tried to reactivate it with the SIM that worked before. I previously got the APN added with DUN and it accepted it but no data pass-through on the hotspot. I read on a Note 9 forum that only having default, mms, dun might help the data pass-through issue and was going to try it, but that's when the SIM glitch occured. Until I have more time I've gone back to a Moto phone with a different workaround.

Thanks for the update. So I saw you're on the Kickstart plan, which I think means your plan doesn't include hotspot at all. I wonder if I would have better luck since my plan has always included hotspot (used to be 10GB, now it's 50GB). On my past few Galaxy's, the hack would just take me from capped to unlimited, which worked nicely.
If I end up trying this, I'll let you know what happens.
