System consuming excessive storage - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

I received my 7T 8+256gb today, after updating it to 10.0.4 and setting up the device, I noticed that System is consuming 29gb I don't think that this is normal. Anyone with a fix other than factory reset?

[Q] Battery drain super fast!

Hi, I updated to lollipop two days ago and I noticed the battery is draining 1% every 1-2 minutes.
It's crazy!
I checked the battery usage and the screen is causing all these problems.
The screen takes more than 50%!!
I lowered the brightness to 40% and still no improvement.
I'm really desperate and I can't just wait to lg's update and hoping they will fix this problem.
Anybody has an idea what should I do? Can I switch back to kitkat?
Have you tried a factory reset? I know it's a bit of a pain, but I had a similar problem and it's gone after I did that.

Did you perform a factory reset after the upgrade? If not, backup and try that first as I have no issues with battery life on Lollipop. Also, make sure the apps you use are up-to-date as it might be one of them not playing nice with 5.0 yet...
same issue here...im stock and unrooted. I dont think greenify can do much. Phone heats up more than before and thus causes more battery drainage... i guess unless we roor the phone, we are stuck with this, or unless there is a software update from htc to fix the issue
I'm with EddyOS on the factory reset. I'd do that, but probably through hboot. I'm running lollipop slightly overclocked with a fairly aggressive custom kernel and I'm not dealing with any heat or undue battery drain. Battery life is actually better than kitkat. I'm running a radically debloated ROM, too, but even on a simply rooted stock ROM with a stock kernel I didn't have such issues.
Thanks for all. Now my HTC One_M8 battery working for automatically after 3 days of update.

I can tell you that it's down to apps and cpu.... I took update from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 ... consumption was massively increased (15-20 mins lost around 10% battery power) ....later ran tr/towelroot/sunshine apps and if I left them running longer I'd have had a new room heater
Turn off after an update, see if that clears it up first, if it continues then do a factory reset

I've had a similar problem since I got the lollipop update, my battery seems to die at somewhere between 20 and 15% and the phone will turn off. Sometimes it will come back on sometimes it won't. I thought a factory reset would do the job so I ended up flashing AR HD (a factory reset was a good enough reason to move away from stock) and its happened again. Anyone any uses what could be causing it?

Tap on extreme powersaving mode. not the on button, but the words Powersaving mode in the settings. make sure that it is at 5% that it turns on, not 20% I had that problem. before.

Wake lock after charging phone

What gives?? Charging my phone always seems to trigger a wakelock upon unplugging. This is usually from a combination of Android OS and Android System.
As a result, I always have to reboot my phone after unplugging in order to avoid the wakelock killing my battery early.
Interesting. Maybe Dash Charge is the cause?
Think I had the same wakelock yesterday.
Does somebody have an idea what to do? Always reboot after charging isn't the best solution I think ?

Hey I personally do not have this anymore. I BELIEVE the solution for me was to turn off the Back up my data option in Settings > Backup & reset. Also cleared cache from the stock recovery upon turning that setting off.
It may have been something funky happening when I restored my Nexus 6 backup when initially setting up the OP3.
Thank you, will try it

Extreme battery drain and heating

I can't figure out what is causing this but my phone is losing battery quickly and when I check battery setting it is some app or the other at the top of the battery consuming app-list. If I remove (uninstall) the top app from the phone, another takes it place. I removed 10 such apps and now it's WhatsApp and Chrome who are doing the honors. What is happening to my phone? As I type, the phone is heating considerably. I have just restarted it and only WhatsApp and XDA app is running in the background.
Edit: The heating and battery drain only happens when the screen is active. When the phone is locked, it no longer remains hot and battery drain also subsides.

Batter drain
Hi, since past few weeks my phone's battery is draining like anything. Strangely the built in app ContactsStorage is showing on top of the battery eating apps, can anyone please help me understand what this app is and why it is eating up battery the most. See the screenshot attached. Please help me with the solution.

Hi,
I am facing this issue too from last 2-3 days. Have used greenify to kill apps that seem to use battery but that has been of no help. I only keep my mobile data on and rest all - wifi, gps, auto brightness, screen rotate etc. are switched off. Still battery drain happening and phone is heating on normal usage (No games or heavy apps used - just messaging and whatsapp). I have also noticed that the fast charge is not really charging the phone as quickly as it used to earlier. If anyone finds a solution do post it here.
Not looking at a factory resetting the phone as I do not have the entire backup of my phone.

Try turning off the auto sync for the accounts that you don't use often.

Any solution for this
Any solution for this? Is factory reset really solving the issue. Any response would really be helpful.

Hi,
I never use auto-sync - its always off. Also, I have kept the resolution as FHD since beginning. However, facing this issue suddenly.

You should try a factory reset then.

You can try this alternative solution:
Go to settings > Apps > Hit the "Plus" or "more" dots button > Reset by default
It might help to fix and reset everything for each single app in terms of notifications, datas, permissions, specific actions linked to your apps.
Give it a try and let's see what happened for you guys, and it won't delete anything in your phone, no worries,

Excessive idle drain

So for the past 2 days my idle drain has been well over 2% with it currently sitting at about 4%. This is confirmed using ex manager. Previously my idle drain was less than 1%. Usually hovering at about 0.8%.
I find this very curious. Upon inspecting what's using battery I see nothing out of the ordinary. I cannot use bbs as I am not unlocked or rooted. My usage had been consistent, I have not installed any new apps. I don't get it.
Anyone experiencing anything similar? I guess if not and it's not some new temporary google play services thing my next step would be a factory reset.
Thane a million for your input.

I would start by rebooting into safe mode to see if this is reproducible. If not, then its a user app causing it. Did you add or update any lately? What build are you on and how did you get to it? As cool as I think the OTA process is I never fully trust it and always end up going back and "clean flashing" the OTA later.
Now, to be fair, this is the longest Ive ever been on stock in my life so ymmv.

I will give that a go. Thanks got the advise.
I have taken app updates as they become available. Not sure. Probably 15-20 apps have updated in the heat few days.
I am in the latest ota. I was on beta and updated to stable when it became available and then another update within the last week or so. Never saw a changeling for that one since it mirrored the Android 10 stable update.
I feel you on not running stock. This is the first device I have not felt the need to screw with. Usually that's step one. Unlock and root access. Saw you are working on a rom. I may give that a go when you get it up and running. I've run your stuff before. Solid.

Yea more times than not it's an app causing an issue.
Do you have always on display enabled? I found leaving that enabled definitely brings my idle way higher than I'd like it to go. With it off my idle is about 0.30%/hr on it can get up to like 5%/hr.

Yeah I've had that on though. It doesn't explain the discrepancy. I did a factory reset and am back to standard idle drain if about 0.7-0.8%. Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate it

Hi,
which apps do you use to check the drain in percentage?
I found that 4G standby (even without data switched off) started to drain faster when I travel. For example 6-7% during my 45 mins commute to work.
Strange is that battery usage app shown .. nothing that ate 7%, actually showing ... nothing.
No idea if this ia due to latest android but for sure I get less screen time 10 out of 11 hours.
Is it needful to download the image and flash or factory reset will do similar job?

I just used the factory reset option and it fixed my issue. Make sure you backup all your data. After that Google has made resetting the device extremely easy. Back in the day I had to jump thorough a ton more hoops when setting up. Now data is backed up as are password and login credentials. You'll be back up and running within 20 minutes. Good luck.
