Like many users here, I am disappointed by the pace of development. I understand that the T-mobile version is the only one that has a unlocked bootloader and that limits the interest on development as many potential devs have other variants. Many users here (myself included) are not knowledgeable enough to develop anything ourselves. The less enlightened (to put it nicely) non-developers complain like crazy while others sit quietly for a paragon developer to come along. There are a few developers who are doing great work bringing CM11 and DeviantXone to our phones. Either way most of us non-developers really don't have any opportunity to make a difference... until now.
There is a petition that is taking off at change.org. It has already received a response from LG and with more signatures, could lead to a change. The petition is asking for LG to unlock the bootloader of the phone. This should increase the number of developers by a substantial amount. Developing for the LG G3 is much better than developing for just the D851.
Please join Sebastian Jena's campaign: Click here to sign the petition!
Lol wow. I feel for you man. That just killed the devs off for good.

That does not sound like that at all if it what he meant needs to reword big time. It read to me that we have no Dev in this section. We have a small amount but we have. Maybe I read it or took it wrong.
BAD ASS G3
I wouldn't call what going on right now a lack of development. We have both stock based and cyanogenmod based Roms. When the cyanogenmod Roms that are out now become stable we will see a lot of ports for our phone. Its not that big of a deal but the petition is a great idea for the rest of the world. Just so you are aware most g3 versions can have stock based Roms but there seems to only be one actively developed ROM at a time over in the generic g3 section because the rest of the world has the same problem us T-Mobile folks do (lack of people willing to step up and learn how to do this stuff). I give it another month at most until we see stable cyanogenmod.
Goes back to 1% who modify their phones vs. Corporate clients who insist on security.... Who do you think cell providers and manufacturers are going to listen too....?

This is a valid point but I am not sure that many corporate clients support android devices nevermind the LG G3. Everywhere I have worked has been iphone and blackberry but the sample size is only 3 so I could be way off about this. Also they usually listen to the loudest of us. Even if we are outnumbered 10 to 1, we still stand a chance as long as we make more noise in support of this than they do in support of the status-quo. Even if you are right though, it doesn't take long to sign up and it is probably the biggest difference I and other non-developers can make so why not try at least?
I'd be fine with signing it, but then I'll get loads of emails from them, which I don't want.

Just mark it as spam. I signed. I'd say reword to: "sign this petition to get ALL g3 bootloaders unlocked and help development!" And leave it at that.

For the record.... How many bootloaders been unlocked by a cell provider after initial release... And modding community is probably outnumbered by 100 to 1 or more likely more..and loud noise doesn't over come revenue stream... Be glad some providers release a dev phone for purchase.

You still may want to edit.your post. You spend far too long complaining about the lack of developing and how no one is deloping and.far less on why the phone should be unlike. Wasn't until the ending that I was like...oh he's not making a petition because no one is developing but to unlock the boot loader....
I also noticed the lack of development behind the G3.
Its a great phone, but if you want a phone with development youll have to get a HTC or Samsung or Nexus.
Even the Samsung devices with locked bootloaders get more development lol.
Sold mine on Craigslist and I hve a Note 4 on preorder awaiting shipment.
There use to be a time where if you were dissapointed in the amount of development being done on a phone you learned how dev. Thats what was great about android. It is an open source system made for you to make it youelr own. Yes times have changed and and not everything is completely open (nothing was ever completely open), but i know there are still ways to learn. Yes you might think your too busy to learn but if you really want more development for this device you will find the time to learn and truly make your device yours.

There is development going on for the g3. Just the tmobile variant. Once the boot loader gets unlocked, it'll probably be easy to port them to the other variants. And it's not LG's fault that only tmobile's boot loader is unlocked. It's the cell provider's that wanted that. If everyone just gives up and moves to different phones, the devs will see no need to try and unlock the other bootloaders.
I signed it , hopefully they unlock it

Starting a post for those of us who are stuck without the factory images corrupted. I am one of the idiots who made a backup but didn't save it to my computer so for now I am stuck with a paper weight. If any kind helpful soul has any suggestions for I or the rest of us who may be stuck please let me know as I'm willing to try anything. I'm pretty good with twrp adb and fastboot commands. Thanks otherwise I can wait on the images from Razer I guess just wish we knew when?
Hello there i am posting here full backup factory image of all partitions before to modify anything

After discussing this with a few heavy hitters in the community I have decided to send it in through the RMA process. There is no guarantee we will ever see the system images and after multiple talks with Razers support staff I don't feel good about waiting while my phone depreciates in value. Will probably sell it at swappa for a one plus 5t if we don't get system images by March 1st. Sad cause I really wanted this phone to be great but no development and no system images really set the stage for a failed first model. I'll update this post when I get it back from RMA to verify it was indeed accepted and fixed......fingers crossed.

Development is meaning less and less as the push for security is becoming tighter. Soon no device will be able to be secure while having open source development.
If you do get the 5t make sure to flash an aosp based rom before you even set the device up. Mainly with them being caught again mining data and sending to to China.

I'm actually really quite disappointed in the time this is taking. I actually had a Nextbit Robin and the factory images were out almost immediately. What on earth is going on here?
A major contributor to me getting this phone was knowing Nextbit were in some way involved and they were very developer friendly. Being a big Razer fan too and hearing about these awesome speakers and silky smooth 120Hz I was totally sold. If I'd known development was this non existent (not the devs faults!), I wouldn't have bought this phone.

Being an anarchist myself, ive been more than tempted to start a boycott on the razer phone (even while owning it myself) - support staff are uninformed, phone is still in beta stages, and no fun for anyone wishing to do development.
Its like the company is trying to rival apple instead just for gamers. Imo they missed the mark a bit and throttled the phones performance by not developing the software fully.
Ive added manual controls for the camera and installed Viper plus an adblocker just so when you play games theres not the constant risk of pop up ads..... Nice idea for a phone not but not well executed, suprising considering the nextbit was its predecessor. And now Razer are talking about the Razer 2, its a joke :silly:

That's what makes me the most upset. How are you talking about the Razer 2 before even fixing some major bugs on ur current 2 month old phone.
Not sure what everyone expected. It's their first device and nextbit only had one device before being bought. It wasn't even that good of a device. So of course this oem will take years to catch up.
As for development, that is becoming g less of a priority for oems. Due to the security risks. Also being its razor you have to expect most of the stuff to be completely closed Sourced and any open source files will lose lots of tweaks.

Well that depends. Some of the drivers maybe licensed so that they are only in the wild on devices and not allowed to be released in any other fashion. Many things could be causing them not to release it. I could easily see many reasons not to release it.
Will ... We can open thread in there forum and make request to razer to release the stock image and make many people replay on it. And if they close it we can make another one.

I have been on the other side of the fence and let me tell you that it is pointless. The tools available to sites go all the way up to the isp when needed. If someone doesn't want you on their site bad enough. Trust me. You won't be. And hiding behind a VPN or changing your iP. Don't do anything.
But you are more then welcome to give it a go.
Razer needs to pay the price for keeping root hard
Wow some of you people are quite delusional how this works. Razer never released this as a developers phone, and rooting it is very easy.. I don't know what are are all on about. No, they haven't released factory images yet, but Iirc they don't HAVE to. They met there legal obligations by releasing the kernel source. Yes some of you didn't follow they procedures for twrp and messed up your phone but that's not razer fault. Technically they don't even have to do RMA on those phones but from what I understand they have.
They have already stated they WILL be releasing factory images soon, but it's just not out yet, now you wanna throw a temper tantrum on there forums? How about everyone just calm down and wait.. I know it sux being without a phone, and such a kickass one at that, but you made the choice... At least you know a fix is coming right?

Hey,
since I am getting my 7t soon and always valued the oneplus phones as developer friendly I am wondering if the lack of devs and roms/kernels for this particular phone will sort itself out over time? Is there any issue preventing things like proper twrp and stuff from happening?
Can you recommend a kernel (from the few out there) and is there any other place to look for them?
ElementalX has it covered, right?
Thanks!

One of the major Problems is twrp still needs time for Android 10.
It's a problem for every device.
You also have the option of arter97's kernel that he just brought to the 7t
[r40] arter97 kernel for OnePlus 7 series
There may not be a huge quantity of devs for the phone yet but in this case, you have a few very good developers already.
Oh and on a side note, Arter97 is helping to bring Paranoid Android back to the scene so good things are coming.

Most of those links are semi-private by invite-only.
Developers got tired of requests and demands from rookie users on XDA, and rightly or wrongly felt under-appreciated at complaints about their free for-fun work...and then took their for-funsies development to more private areas. There also has been much squabbling and drama about "originality" and "kanging" in conjunction with moderation here over the decade+ Android has been a thing; which annoyed developers more. XDA really was a victim of XDA's and Androids own success over crappy OEMs undermaintaining their own firmware. Thus the seeming deadness and lack of development across most devices, now.
I know links and very active and very-elite groups on TG--but am not sharing them, because then I'll lose my own access to those channels. Not trying to show-off or be a jerk here, just explaining how and why.

Continued oxygen deprivation results in fainting, long-term loss of consciousness, coma, seizures, cessation of brain stem reflexes, and brain death.
I have zero signs.
If you knew I was referring to the U.S. variant, you aren't alone. The undertone of your message referring to your particular snapdragon was an obvious unwarranted flex which reason is probably beyond your own ability to perform metacognition.

Your very first post in this Note 10 thread was you stating Snapdragon couldn't be rooted....whether you and I know different, someone else might think Exynos was their only route to have root. So your blanket statement was factually incorrect. Many people come to xda for answers to questions they never thought to ask and the more accurate ideas shared, the less confusion for those people.
The correct way to put it is to not buy a U.S Snapdragon if you want root, or simply to avoid the U and UI Snapdragons if you want root.

The irony here is your blanket, rough draft suggestion saying, "to not buy a U.S. Snapdragon if you want root;" while staying within the context of your last reply, is factually incorrect. Many U.S. snapdragons, Galaxy S' for example have numerous comments of "will never be rooted" and "cant be rooted" and these were also factually incorrect or proven wrong when root was found.
Worst case scenario is someone thinks something cant be rooted, keeps searching and finds out it can be or has been. Best case scenario is they buy a device already proven and verified to have root.
I said and I quote, "I [me] don't even bother to root anymore, if I [me] really cared about rooting I [me] would never buy a snapdragon variant in today's time." This isnt an instruction to anyone or any group of people regardless of what they are on xda for and I do not represent xda in any other capacity than a forum member. My post is literally a personal admission and comment pertaining to my personal choice. Nowhere did I say a snapdragon or U.S. snapdragon cannot be rooted therefore anyone with basic intelligence and comprehension skills wouldnt be looking to my singular comment for guidance on rooting their device. It is a comment of personal choice, not a guide on rooting.
Your comment saying that your H. K. snapdragon has root, has no grounding in my choice not to buy a snapdragon if I "really cared about rooting." This is why I believe it to be 49% informative and 51% a weird flex to say you have a rooted snapdragon, which I guess I should be saying... Congratulations? But then again, your rooted phone has zero affect on my life in any way as I am not seeking to root.
The probability of someone taking my comment and pulling from it that all snapdragons cant be rooted is baseless and would be considered reaching and would only speak to that individual person's ignorance to ignore readily available public information that proves otherwise. If a person chooses not to do their own research, that's their choice. Their quest for root has zero to do with my personal choice to not buy snapdragons if I really cared about rooting.
A personal statement is not an instruction. What someone pulls from my words is based off of their own symbolic interaction with my comment. The same way if someone read your comment stating, "do not buy a U.S. snapdragon if you want root" is not entirely true and would be jumping the gun to presume snapdragons cant be rooted. The correct statement would go along the lines of, if you prefer an easier route to rooting capability as it pertains to most Samsung Galaxy devices, then the Exynos variant would be the smarter, safer purchase for a consumer. Obviously dev's of any stature would be somewhat excluded from this from an operational and mechanical standpoint as they may want to take a crack at a workaround, root, etc.
Semantics.

How is the S10? Yeah I'm thinking about swapping out soon also. Thinking about the oneplus 8 pro but heard there were display issues so I'm holding off on that one. Looking forward to the fold 2 or note 20. Might try something else tho, not too sure yet

Are there any custom roms for the pixel 6 pro? I don't see any on XDA and I have a hard time finding them with just a Google search. I appreciate you answering me.
there are a few (2) listed in the development section in this forum. but most aren't listed on XDA anymore. You will want to join a TG group that lists all the ROMs that are currently available (approx 8 right now). The name of the group is Pixel6Chat
Ahh I'm finally getting the hint. Why has development migrated to tg? I've never even used tg lol.
Yes, there are quite a few. crDroid, Spark, Lineage, Derpfest, AICP, AOSP Extended are some.

Too many n00bs cluttering developers threads with posts that don't contribute to development. It gets annoying fast when people keep re-asking the same question that has already been answered multiple times in the thread or is answered in the original post, or complain about bugs without providing a logcat or at least details on how to reproduce the issue.
I remember when XDA used to be about Android development, but as it gained popularity over the years it started to become more of a general Android/smartphone/tech help and support forum.
I see. I can hardly blame the developers. Perhaps a more tightly moderated board would be more encouraging.
Definitely sad state of affairs!
I figured it may have been for another reason, say why we lose things like vanced.

True that.
Sadly, especially the new generation prefer TG groups instead of forum. But if the reason is that people keep asking the same questions, it might happen more on any social media or group, as the forum should be better for searching function and tags by arguments. One limitation perhaps is that the new XDA forum is not compatible with Tapatalk, and, for mobility reasons and use on smartphone would be a nice method to access.
As the original Google firmware delivered with the stock rom has some special features (we know mainly some code related to Tensor computing, for photography on gcam, as well on dictation etc.) I wonder if we may see any review here, about the main difference, which features are common, because part of AOSP rom code, and what we may miss. Does the custom roms in Pixel apply ie the June updates?
In my previous devices I always used custom roms, but I never owned a Pixel and of course would be interesting to know about the difference.

I hate telegram and refuse to use it. Is there a discord we can join to get the updates and or downloads? I joined xda years back for custom os like lineage for my android devices.
When was lineage os for pixel 6 pro built? Twrp?

You can download some roms like lineage for p6p here. Just use fastboot -w
Then fastboot update "rom.zip"
I can't guarantee that all these roms use that method but lineage os does.

True I know those commands. But It will wipe my data and well I kinda dont want to do that right now. I will download them though for the future when twrp becomes a thing for the p6p.
I have been using fastboot commands to update my p6p monthly security patch . Magisk prevents it.
Thank you for the link! I just downloaded them. Will keep them saved for the future when I can use them.

This seems to be a factor too. I read in one of the descriptions of a recent released ROM that proprietary features would not be included because of similar concerns.

These are fastboot flash able zips , I don't think they would work on any twrp btw
I don't know if there will be a twrp for a13, which I'm on any time soon. Even official lineage with los recovery would be great

agreed! But time will tell. Glad to see within the past month custom roms have been happening. Pixel 6 pro has a 5 yr google support so there is no reason to really move to custom roms unless its for fun with messing around and experiencing features.
I must say, latest A13 beta, rooted, with AOSP Mods and a few others, makes the Pixel 6 Pro feel GREAT

Yes, I have seen several positive comments about A13 beta. I'm with A12 on Derpfest, and as soon there will be a nice custom rom I will move it.

You know why this "new generation" go to TG? Because on XDA if someone complains about a bug or something they have to deal with it. On TG if someone says something they don't like or want to deal with they can ban them. Way to many people lacking the mental capacity have admin rights on TG.
