Here are the steps to install viper with a Pixel 4 XL:
1. In magisk go to downloads, install the audio compatibility patch 1.7 3. Choose volume up for requested settings, although USB can be set as preferred.
2. Reboot
3. Install XDA Labs Viper. Do not open.
4. In magisk go to downloads, install the Audio Modification Library v2 4. Do not reboot.
5. Open Viper, let it install driver and it will reboot.
6. Go to app info for viper, disable battery optimization.
That’s it. Enjoy the audio bliss.
Can you link me to the viper that you installed?

You might have the same issue I did. I uninstalled everything. Then, I installed the latest viper. I got the "need to install driver" message about 5 times. Then it stuck. After that I installed the other two modules.
Can you confirm the audio mods are actually working? I've installed viper many times on different devices and in some cases everything seemed to have went fine but the audio mods were not actually working.

You have to enable the master limiter. That's pretty much your on/off switch.
Does anyone know if the Viper equalizer works while playing music on Android auto?
I doubt I'll get a response, but I converted from the S8+ to the Pixel 4 XL. I still have ALL the zip files for arise and viper, can they be used at all now I have viper working or are they pretty much useless?

Since another thread is getting hijacked it might be a good idea to start talking about Viper4Android in a separate place. This is just to share some info, not a Q&A for Viper4Android.
Viper4Android FX is like the “advanced” version of DSP Manager/Beats Audio by providing you with more advanced Surround/Bass/Clarity/Gain boost controls in addition to an equalizer that you can use for your headphones, speakers, bluetooth devices, and more.
I found the guide on how to do it here, I just updated the links and added some more info:
1. You need root and twrp
1a. Make a backup in twrp
1b. Seriously, make the backup
Skip 2. and go to 3. if you are using SuperSU
2. Change to permissive mode with SELinux Mode Changer that you can download here
3. Boot into twrp and flash Viper4Android, you can download the zip from here (old link here).
3b. Reflash SuperSu
3c. Wipe cache and dalvik
4. Boot
5. Start Viper4Android and give root access
6. Still in Viper4Android, under settings switch FX Compatible mode to Compatible.
7. Reboot
8. Activate Viper4Android
9. Enjoy
Additional info:
If you use Poweramp, disable Direct volume control in settings/audio/advanced tweaks.
Do it at your own risk and for technical questions about Viper4Android it's better if you post in the thread you find at 3.
Some people report it working without changing to permissive mode, others report that it's not working at all. Any feedback is appreciated.

I've flashed it, tbh I only notice a small difference when activating it but I still have to play around with the settings. Also, I'm using Jetaudio, maybe it doesn't work that well with that.
Also, I've just changed the description in the op, according to the viper4android post I link to if you already use supersu (which is the same as in the rooting guide) you don't need to do the change to permissive mode.

No need to change the selinux.

With the phone speakers, not much I played around with some settings to give sound a "fuller" effect.
However with Bluetooth or wired headset, definitely noticeable.

First off i'll share my setup:
Recovery: Eng.stk Twrp r5
Kernel: Also by Eng.stk r61
Rom Stock 2.1.3-x
Viper4android: Use lolliviper zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/discussion-viper4android-t2543796
I just flashed the lolliviper zip file through twrp. flash SuperSU 2.52 again just in case. wipe cache and dalvik. reboot.
after reboot, launch V4A app. grant supersu permission. install "high quality" (the middle one) driver. reboot.
Test by playing music (from storage, pandora, spotify etc.) keep music playing and then launch V4A again. go to 3 dot menu and choose driver status and it should show if its processing or not.
good luck.

I'll add the optional supersu step, but the rest is already there. After that it's up to each one to select between the 3 profiles at first boot.
Someone should try LolliViPER[6.0.1].zip zip on any 6.0+ ROM wit "Enforcing" kernel, see if it works.

Oops it was in the Dolby Atmos thread by westenbrood. My brain is derpy sometimes
HERE YA GO!
It's right there past the 6.5 download link, can't miss it. I don't know for certain if this is the magic answer for nougat, but if viper is showing all is well other than the driver status being abnormal (which was the problem with MM) then you should be good to go after flashing it. As always YMMV. Make a backup just in case.

I've tried everything to get viper to work, I don't understand - previously all I've had to do is install the apk, install drivers - reboot & jobs done!
Now it's like you need a masters degree.
I've followed so many guides, viper apk is installed, rooted, busybox & I've renamed the file in system / etc - but upon opening viper & attempting 2 install drivers, I'm told installation has failed.. something something busybox, something something check if rooted :what::banghead:
My hope now is a Dev will build a beta 9 build & incorporate viper

Hi guys, just wanted to open this thread for those of us using the viper4arise sound mod.
I'm actually on Viper 3.5.0 with A.R.I.S.E. Deuteronomy 2.71b + AM3D + permissive + Arkamys + Sonophilos' profile and it sounds really impressive.
What about your config?
I'm on Nougat FW, Viper 5.2.0, Deuteronomy 2.4, ICESound, Arkamys removed, no additional add-ons, SELinux permissive as well. Sounds great, too

No, I use no setprop at all.
I did, but I gave it up because it always felt like there was something conflicting. But I use AcoustiX on top of Deut 2.4 and it sounds great.

The mod isn't device specific, you can configure it according to your music taste. Ask in the thread to be added in the Telegramm group in order to have more details, I opened this post to discuss the best config for our devices.

I'm on Deuteronomy 2.4 + Boomsound and Sonophilos' profile, no ice, no special setprop, no toolbox (breaks Boomsound)
Sound is more engaging but I've lost a bit of separation and detail. I already know from my old Z3 that I still need time to find the best config.
The toolbox breaking can be solved by changing the setprop.... Although now i plan on a clean flash again...i will try to change my current setup... ARISE does wonders for phones regardless of whether the device has good or bad audio qualities. Been using it since it was on concept stage with guitardedhero and ben on 2 devices.

I can also recommend the V4A module by @ahrion and @Zackptg5. It's great, and Zackptg5 always works very hard to make sure the module works for as many users as possible. He also has a 5T, I believe, so it's easy for him to make sure it works on this device.

It's in the Magisk repo. You'll find it under Downloads in the Magisk Manager.
Edit: well, actually... Realised it's a Unity module. You don't actually need Magisk for it.

I went with the materialized version of the Magisk module. Works perfectly, but you'll also need to remove deep buffer from your build.prop. If it's still giving you trouble add lpa.decode=true, or disable selinux from within the v4a developer options.

So by doing this you was able to get v4a to start processing. The processing status is still no on my device.

You shouldn't need to remove deep buffer on the 5T. It should be enough to exit the V4A app (three-dot menu top right), open the app again and then start your music for it to start processing.
