Hi, I have an LG Nexus 5X. I'm trying to add a SanDisk 64GB SD Card (SDXC.) My question is, do I need to do anything (like formatting) before I add it? I don't want to have to open the case again. So can I use my new SD card out of the box? Or do I need to format it? Can I add files and folders from my PC before I insert my SD card? That would save time. So how do I install an SD card in my Nexus 5X? Please reply. Thanks
I just checked YouTube and it looks like there's no way to add an SD card. Just external adapters. I'll check back later.
Is there a difference between a Google Nexus 5X and an LG Nexus 5X? Mine's LG.

They are the same phone. Most all people call it Nexus 5X. Some people call it Google Nexus 5X and some call it LG Nexus 5X.
Hi, so do I have to format my SD card? Can I add files before I insert them? I got a toolkit for Nexus 5X. Please reply. Thanks

There is no slot for an SD card. No way to attach one.
Do you mean the SIM card? For making phone calls?

will it still work properly?
Did you install any apps to the SD?
What do you think would happen if you got a brand new SD card?
You're fine.
Edit: That probably sounds a little jerk-like. I mean no harm

i dont think it sounds jerk like. but its true, its a pretty simple answer. deleting files on the sd card is the same as deleting files on your desktop

ok, so I purchased a Galaxy s3 today. could not move the apps to the ext sd card. So, I rooted it thinking if it was rooted, I would be able to move the files. Still no luck. Why has samsung devised this phone not to be able to move apps to sd card. It is like going back in time to the hero. Is there a work around on this issue?
ICS and JB don't allow moving, I guess that's why phones have more than 1 or 2 gigs now.
It's not Samsung, it's Android.

It still allows moving to SD on devices with 2gb or less internal, or a partitioned internal. However internal SD on this device is just a folder on the single partition allowing you to use the entire space for anything from apps-zips and everything in between

It has been my experience that even rooting your SG3 will not allow you the ability to move hour apps to the SD card. If you discover a way to do that and still have them be functional i would love to hear it. Hope this answers your question.

Why do you want your apps moved to the sd card, are you running out of internal memory? I keep all my apps on internal and have my sd card for music and pics. The s3 has enough memory not to have that problem of needing apps moved to sd card. Well that's IMO.

ok. Here's the deal. I'd try to do this myself but I have next to no android knowledge other than how to use the things. I was going to get a 64gb card and do the ext sd swap trick I've seen on here BUT... half my hours were cut at work and I can no longer afford to get a 64gb card. I do have a 16gb in the phone now. I was hoping a way to make the phone think that 16 was part of the internal storage so I could extend the internal storage to the sd card. Does that make sense? Is this possible at all? Could anyone make it possible? If I added up the internal with my 16 that'd be 32gb which would be a nice size. I have apps in the app store that I can't install right now because of the limited 16gb (11 usable) space on my phone. I would really appreciate any help you guys could offer me in making my 16gb card work for apps along with my internal storage. Thanks so much!
Wrong section bro :/
Next time ask in Q&A section.
As for your question, as far as I know, that isn't possible. You can either use the internal or swap and use the sd card. You cannot merge both together, though.

What you're 'asking' would be to physically the hard memory of the nand chip - its not going to happen,
Best thing you could do is install what apps you could, then use something like titanium backup and batch move other apps to the sd card. Don't move widgets or any app you use as a widget to the sd card, or you lose widget functionality.
Along with this should be posted in Q & A.

yes yes it was posted in the wrong section, I'm sorry. It was moved to q and a so it's all good i guess...
as for my question, there's no way to join the two partitions together like you could hard drives on a computer?
if not... what is this app2sd about? If I used it would I still have my icons on the homescreens for all my apps or would it be some kind of fugly method of launching the apps on my sd card?
if I replaced my internal with my 16gb sd card would that give me a little more space since android is installed on the 16gb that the phone comes with? Currently my phone says it has 11GB usable space on the storage section... soooo if I used my 16gb would that give me 16GB usable? That'd help with my memory a little bit...
and finally... if I made the 16gb my internal... would it be possible to copy movies and emulator roms to the main phone storage since i'm using sd for apps at that point, or does that just totally negate the internal storage for everything?
sorry to ask so many questions. thanks for the help in advance. sorry about posting in the wrong section.

This is a really confusing question. Have you filled up your internal storage with apps? If so you can extend larger apps to install on the sd card and they'll run normally, unless the app involves a widget. You should never move apps that have widgets over to the sd.

how do I install larger apps to the sd? Also, what would the point be of switching my sd to internal storage like that one mod floating around here if I can just use the internal and install apps to my sd as well?

Search for an app on the market called App 2 SD. There doesn't seem to be a way to do it without a 3rd party app on this phone.

ya i searched for app2sd in the marketplace and they don't work. i think there's only one floating around on the forum here that works with the s3 but i hear it's real clunky too where you don't have icons on your home screen you have to open app2sd and launch some stuff from there which is just weird i dunno. I might bite the bullet and grab a 32gb card and hope that's enough...
Hey Everyone,
Just picked this up 2 weeks ago and finally getting around to using it.
I have a 32 gig microsd card and I was wondering if there was a way to move the apps/games to the SD Card to free up space on the internal memory?
Also, it seems that there is not really a big rom scene for this tablet. Anyone know of a debloated and/or google only type rom (like the default rom on the Nexus 5) for this tab?
Thank you,
Whiteice
I believe you can save your apps to ExtSDCard with NoBloat. Then you can delete them and if need to restore, do so from the ExtEDCard.
Has anybody tried the method of formatting an sd card into a partition for the note 7 the way it was done for the s7 and s7 edge?
There is no reason not to work!

Yes if you mean Modaco version (ADB), there are other ways but I'm not a expert like that.
EDIT: Unless I did it wrong, didn't work. Probably Note 7 different upgraded touchwiz or something.

It's a method of bypassing a security feature. They have to close down these exploits because they want a bigger share of the enterprise market. Most companies aren't too keen on letting people receive sensitive data on an insecure device.

This is extremely aggravating. Adopted storage can be made to be just as secure. What a pain in the arse these locked down phones are! I'd rather sacrifice most of these "security" features for freedom.
I hate adaptable storage
Is it still necessary with a 64gb phone? What would be the advantages? Just curious

So what happens to the internal storage after you make the SD card adoptable?
Also there's a setting in the browser to set download to SD card.
But I see your point.

If I am not wrong adoptable storage breaks your phone if you remove the SD card. And another phone won't read it.
I constantly switch SD cards and copy files from and to my friend's phones because it is faster than wireless methods.
Adoptable storage is good for people who just keep their SD card in all the time

If I understand it correctly, adoptable storage also lets you set up partitions on your SDcard. So part of it will still work just like in the past, therefore allowing you to still have a user defined section of it available to still transfer data by popping the card in and out of various devices. This would be the best of both worlds.
As a mobile gamer, I SERIOUSLY hope someone finds a way to incorporate adoptable storage on the Note 7!!!! The data folders for HD games are so big these days that with just 20 HD games or so I have almost run out of storage space already on my 64GB Note 7. I have rooted all of my previous Note devices for this very reason (in order to store game data on the external card), but was hoping that the Note 7 could be the first one that I would NOT have to root. Now Samsung has screwed this up AGAIN...just like last time with the Note 5 where there was no SDcard used at all.
If anyone can figure out a way to use adoptable storage on the Note 7, it will be tremendously appreciated!!!!!!!! Thx.

The ways in which someone could use a memory card formatted in a typical manner is restricted. In a nut shell the phone treats it as a source for content like music or videos, but won't let you copy applications and other types of content to it. This also means that data that some applications use can't be moved to the cards. Applications that are for consuming content (ex: an audio book reader or a video player) potentially could use a lot of memory and there's no way to save it in anything other than the device's main memory. I personally struggle with 64-gigs. The Note 5 didn't have a memory card option at all. I have a GS7 and enabled it's memory card to be used as adoptable storage and it works great for my needs/demands. I had been hoping that between the 64 gigs built into the Note 7 and the 256 gig memory card available for it that I would have more than enough. But hearing the news in this thread strongly disappointments me.

I don't have a link or anything but there is a no root method of doing it now. People just tend to advise not using it that way as if the card becomes corrupted for any reason it may negatively affect your internal HD. Also if the card us removed for any reason it can create problems because the OS isn't set up to react to the HD being removed.
I have no experience with it myself but that's what I read about it. Biggest use the SD card would have is utilizing some of it as RAM when a root releases officially but other than that everything I've read advised using it for storage only.
Kind if sad since I got the SD card ad a promo gift but hopefully all that space will come in handy as the phone updates or gets more root love.

Well, that is EXACTLY what we are referring to in this thread. The source that you do not have the link to in order to enable Adoptable Storage on any device is referred to as the "ADB Modaco Adoptable Storage Method". It is supposed to work on ANY Marshmallow device, but for some reason as some of us have tested, it DOES NOT WORK on the Note 7. Samsung probably found out about it and BLOCKED it just because they think they know what's best. Its STUPID!!! Its a stock Android feature & should have been left alone!
Now my fear is that they somehow break this method on the S7 &S7 Edge with their stupid "Grace UI" update & it would have been pointless for me to exchange my Note 7.
Will be disabling "System Updates" with Debloater on my S7 Edge... try blocking THAT!!!

Just finding this it now! I've been expectantly waiting for my 256 Gig SD card just so that I could partition it and use part for adoptable storage. I am beyond belief that Samsung has blocked it! Damn them!
