Bootloop with TWRP, after installing LineageOS 16 - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

I´ve installed TWRP and LineageOS on the phone.
It works fine, but I wanted to update to Lineage OS 16, from 15 and reseted the phone.
After installing via TWRP the OS 16, the phone is in an bootloop. (Here I wanted to place the link to the YouTube Video, but I´m not allowed to...)
You should find the video on YouTube with search for: "Bootloop Lenovo P2", upload couple of minutes ago.
I can´t access to the phone via ADB! No devices found.
Any ideas to get out of that loop?

Solved
I don´t know why, but I found a post to press Volume UP and Down when phone starts, at the same time.
That stopps the Loop.

I have similar problem where upgrading to lineage 16 just as it came out makes the boot logo showing lenovo and a obscured logo on the top, the device reaches the boot animation (lineage os) which plays very slowly and causes the part around the processor to heat up to skin burning hot.
Booting into recovery, the recovery menu is obscured and I cannot see any thing other than some random patches. Note that the phone does not heatup in this menu.
please help.

Marshmallow Update followed by Bootloop [EUR]

I just got the official update to Marshmallow and I decided to just do it since it is official. It downloaded and then installed. Then it rebooted and showed that "apps are being optimized" screen and after that a bootloop of the lg logo. Rebooting doesnt work only if I take the battery out but afterwards there's still a bootloop. I also didn't do root or anything else to my device. I can not enter download mode or recovery either, but honestly idk if it has worked before.
Can anyone with probably similar experiences help me? Thanks in Advance from Germany

I have exactly the same issue. I have a German-bought LG G3 d855 updating this morning to Marshmallow. It is now caught in exactly the same boot loop. I get the LG logo, for a few minutes (the brightness changes during this time) followed by the "Android is updating..." app optimization screen which optimizes my 44 apps before going back to the logo in a constant cycle. Then my 44 apps get optimized yet again, and on it goes. I can't enter recovery, none of the button combinations has any effect. Phone has no mods, and was working fine before this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi,
Similar issue here, my phone updated today (also no root, no mods) and for a couple of hours everything worked fine (just some missing apps after the process, but ok), then I went to flight mode and back and then it started with the reboot loops.
The reboots on my phone happen after some seconds in the home screen, so I have time to try to set it in flight mode again, and in some cases, after this it stops rebooting, but in flight mode, with no connections at all.
I'm trying to remove things to avoid doing a factory reset by now, removing cache didn't help...
Is your phone rebooting also after loading the home screen? or it just loops in the LG screen or in the apps update screen?
Hello,
I had the same problem. Just hardware reset the device and the device will continue from optimizing the apps
Instructions on how to hard reset see the video find on youtube "How to Enter into Recovery Mode on LG G3!"

Hi
I managed to recover my phone, BUT I didn't manage to recover my personnal data... I had to reset everything...
My method : with this tool https://www.google.fr/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi9oJnC66bMAhWHDsAKHY_cBVQQFggdMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D2683691&usg=AFQjCNGG5q9UKA6oKXlahEEOksUo8faGrw&sig2=cTz4bAtdqp4BEut2S4B2GA enter your imei, and download KDZ file, latest directly from LG server.
Then follow this method (in french sorry)
http://www.phonandroid.com/forum/installation-propre-flasher-facilement-un-firmware-officiel-fichier-kdz-lg-g3-t97193.html#p1452621
You can try "normal flash" at the first time, but if it doesn't work (for me it doesn't work) you will have to choose "CSE Flash" and it should work. But you will loose your personnal data. So be strong.

i have the same problem....after the stock firmware has been restored, what method is used to get the proper working marshmallow upgrade?
I went from 5.0 to 6.0 using the LG PC Suite.
0 problems, 0 reboots, quick and fast. Did you update through OTA?
yes i did but still boot lop............is it the battery?
so ?
Same problem here, did you find a solution ?
New G3 from LG but back in bootloop after 24h of use.
Thank you.
I got the exact same issue, neither hard reset or flashing firmware works. Is there any other solution or should i start looking for a new phone?
Edit: Somehow it works just fine now lol. Tried flashing it like 3 times and hard reset twice and now after an hour of constant optimizing apps bootlopping i pulled out the battery for like the 100th time and now it works, what the hell. Looks like my G3 will die soon tho haha

Xa2 black screen and flickering after lineage os 16 installation and reboot

Hey guys,
i have a screen issue with my xa2, android 8.0:
I followed the steps from wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pioneer/install until subtopic ''Installing LineageOS from recovery, point 8 (optional step)'' and used ''adb reboot sideload'' to install gapps nano.
After the successful installation my phone rebooted not into TWRP but Lineage OS recovery.
I chose ''reboot system'' and since this step, my screen is all black aside from occasional vertical lines and flickering.
The screen occassionally shows white background with flickering and switches to black again.
Somehow i can still take screenshots and switch into flashmode.
I tried to run sonys flashtool ''Emma'' and try to reset it to a android stock ROM, but even after this successful step the black screen and flickering continues.
Can anyone help me?
[EDIT:]
My PC still recognizes my phone in adb devices and fastboot devices and i can still execute respective commands with cmd, but its mainly the screen which is black and hinders my work.
same here, still looking for a solution...

Does it matter which android version was installed on your devices prior to the LineageOS setup?
I had android 8.0.
same issue here. i stupidly upgraded my xa2 to android 8.0 then downgraded via sonys emma tool before following the procedure from the lineage wiki. all went well, i was able to boot and do stuff, although the camera was making problems, but all of sudden the screen turned flickery. maybe it has something to do with propietary drivers getting lost in the android 8.0 update process? now emma doesn't recognize the device. any ideas?

TWRP for Sony XZ2c instead of Lineage Recovery?

Hi everyone
After some research, I can't find a succeful way to install TWRP recovery instead of Lineage stock recovery.
It's really embarasing because I'm currently setting up my brand new XZ2c compact to run the way I want it to on Lineage OS 17.1 with Magisk and Xposed modules, and I experienced 3 or 4 endless bootloop that led me to fully format my phone after bunch of hours setting it and tailoring it up... Huge waste of time, frustration overload, as you could expect. So, I really miss tremendous TWRP backup fonctionnality I used to run frequently on my old Z5c... :crying:
Does anyone here as figured out how to replace Lineage stock recovery on this device? Is so, I'd really to hear him out
Have a good week-end!

Have you seen this- https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-android-10-stock-sodp-xz2-c-p-3-twrp-unofficial.4074403/ ? I haven't tried it on Lineage, but might work...
Hi levone1 & thanks for answering,
I've tried this one, but I get adb\fastboot.exe: unknown option -- disable-verity
Hi guys!
Today I tried again to install TWRP on my Sonyh Xperia XZ2C because LineageOS Recovery doesn't provide Nandroid backup, which is a shame.
I tried many ways described over the web, none of those worked, and I ended up with a boot loop at startup with that naughty message "your device is corrupted it cannot be trusted and will not boot". I can't boot to Lineage, neither to recovery. I'm stuck.
With device turned off, I can eventually press volume down, plug it to computer, access fastboot mode (blue led), flash+boot the LineageOSrecovery.img, then the device restart, Sony logo appears... and that's all, I'm stuck with logo in boot loop, and I can't go anywhere further.
I tried to change boot slot (without knowing if it could help with this problem at all) but I alway get "unknown option".
I'm panicking right now, I can't find any way out to this bootloop, if someone could help it will be sooo appreciated!
I tried hard to find a solution for 4 hours now, I'm completly stuck and I can't even sleep. That's why I finally reached out here.
Did you ever find a solution @tomboudiboudi ?

NERVOUS about flashing Lineage 18 :-(

HI,
I am not new to flashing phones and tablets, but I am a bit confused about the new partition format.
I have a nokia 6.1.
I want to flash the official lineage 18 ROM on it.
I downloaded the latest version , and also the latest lineage recovery.
I followed the install instructions on the website . I believe, exactly.
But after I have executed this command '' fastboot flash boot xxxxx.img"" to temporarily boot recovery, the phone stays in download mode and does nothing.
I then thought maybe I need to reboot?, and power down, because the next thing on the lineage install instructions is to start the phone having powered down.
Anyways, when it boots up, it hangs and stays on the android one screen.
Power/Volume up does nothing.
Whats worse is, it is no longer recognised in ADB.
I was really worried. I let the battery die overnight, and then tried to get some response, but no - still stuck.
Finally, after more fiddling, I got it into download mode, and was able to flash stock using OST.
I tried again - same thing, and once again luckily managed after an hour or so to get it into download mode.
So I have reflashed stock, and wondering if somebody a lot brighter than me can give some advice??
Currently on stock android 10, but would much prefer lineage 18 , as I have no need for google services.
Can only think something is going wrong with whichever partition I am temporarily booting to recovery?
Many Thanks ( with a relieved sigh for escaping a brick )

Something similar happened to me, it turns out that from android 10 stock you have to first:
fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img
you will get an error in the cmd, that's good, now
fasboot boot xxxx.img
.
this was mentioned a long time ago but was never mentioned more in other threads
if you get stuck you can use ost la. also remember the slot A B when you flash the rom

Question OP 9 Pro stuck on infinite loop using LineageOS

Hi all,
I'm coming back to Android after an absence and would like to run Lineage on a new US unlocked 9P. I followed the directions in the Lineage OS website and unfortunately the phone now is stuck in a constant animation of the blue circle moving left over the arc, and there isn't much I think I will be able to do about it until the battery runs out.
Here's what I did as per the directions:
-got and installed adb and fastboot from the Windows zips from Google
-added the install location to the path enviro variable
-installed the Universal ADB driver from Github
-activated USB debugging and OEM unlocking on the phone
-got the phone repeatedly into fastboot mode but then got stuck since 'fastboot devices' didn't show anything
-got bailed out by another thread here that one needs to check for updates with phone connected and Win will download the relevant USB drivers. Thanks!
-unlocked the bootloader
-downloaded and flashed the 18.1-20210803 recovery img
-sideloaded the copy-partitions 20210323 zip and it got stuck at 47% just like the website said
-did the factory reset
-sideloaded the the LOS 2020210803 zip to the phone and rebooted
When I rebooted it just plays the animation I mentioned at the beginning, so it looks like it's stuck in a permaloop.
I should mentioned that after I flashed recovery and booted into the normal Oxygen mode it would take much longer to boot so perhaps there was something already creating the loop.
I am grateful for any assistance.
Thanks,
How long have you left it? First install of Lineage spins for ages
I think I left it for an hour or so. Thanks for the info - I just turned it on and will let it spin for a while and see what happens.
I let it run until the battery died. I fully recharged it and am letting it run again. Same result of blue circle tracing arc to the left.
Success!
I tried to install the prior version (0720) which was then rejected for being too old. I wiped the storage and then tried 0803 again and it installed. I turned it on, the circle moved for a while and then the Lineage logo came up. I just finished setup, and it looks beautiful.
So far so good!

Everytime you flash a new rom you need to wipe data after
Anytime that happens you just go back into recovery and wipe data a few times and it should work after that.
It would've been due to encryption. Each time you flash a new rom you need to wipe userdata which removes your lock and also removes encryption. If you try to install a rom without doing this first, the rom cannot access that partition, because it doesn't yet know the unlock code/pattern, which is why it just gets stuck trying to do so.
Thank you to the 3 posters above, and I appreciate DJ Sub's explanation, makes sense in hindsight and I'll keep it in mind for the future.
PS - I'm glad to be back to the Android modding community, it's refreshing to be able to steer what OS my phone is running
I had the same problem (also a couple of different boot loop problems) when flashing LineageOS.
I did many things, so can't say for sure which one helped me to fix that, but the things I did were:
Restore from boot loop via MSM tool flashing EU image.
Updating that OxygeneOS to the latest using internal updater.
Repeating the LOS installation process several times in different conditions to isolate the source of the problem. I was changing LineageOS package, OpenGapps package, etc.
One of the problems I've found was that latest OpenGapps package (July 28th if I'm correct) was causing the boot loop on first start (very similar to what you're describing):
Phone tries to boot showing the LOS animation.
It goes for several minutes.
Then the phone vibrates, reboots and it continues from the start.
If I'm not mistaken, it was fixed by using the version from July 24th. The latest package also were removed from the OpenGapps page later AFAIR.
Second problem was after the successful boot. The phone was rebooting from the first setup wizard, booting to recovery (or some other partition) and proposing to make a factory reset.
Not sure which of my steps solved this, but I was updating back to the last LOS package watching closely that I'm flashing the same slot on each step and also making sure that slots are properly copied from one to another with the corresponding script.
Even in the most stable setup I was probably having some setup wizard loop problems, so I was skipping account setup steps and doing that manually later.
I'd say that installing LOS on OnePlus 9 Pro was most difficult and problematic installation in my experience and I did that a lot previously: HTC Wildfire S, THL 5000, Zuk Z1, Xiaomi Mi 5s, Xiaomi Mi 9T (Redmi K20) and several other devices.
