Hi !
I have the following Problem.
Charging via USB is working and also the headest, but icannot sync via usb or do anything else.
What can i do ?? Wheres the Problem ?
Question; Are you using a charger in the car?
Yes the original T-Mobile charger
Well I guess that must be the bad guy.. do you plug your phone in the charger before turning on the engine? That causes higher voltage peaks which can damage the USB-circuit.
Since your using the original charger supplied you should send your device in for repair.
OK, thanks for your answers.
What's the good way for charging the device in a car?
Thanks
The safest thing to do is to start the engine before plugging in your device.
Here is another thread about current overflow with the Tmobile car charger: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1686041&postcount=10
RE-INSTALL
Try re-installing active stink on your main computer.
Maybe that will sort it.
Hi i've the same problem. When the phone is turned on in the bootloader it doesn't say anything on the left bottom of the screen (normaly there was standing something like "USB"). and now its blank? ActiceSync isn't working eather and WM5 storage doesn't work. I only use the original USB cable and charger from the phone. when i plug in the usb it starts charging. but no usb connection.
Please help?
same problem as above, same as my Artemis, blown USB board. If its still under a year old send it for repair. Mine is over a year old now, so i cant get it fixed (unless i pay)
I just called T-Mobile Dutch, they will send him on repear. this is my second mdac3 in one year that needed to be send on repear. I hate it when i need to mis my telephone. hopefully when it comes back from repair it's fixed.
So if you got the same problem that USB is not working, you need to send it on repair. because you can do nothing about it
(fixes typefaults)

yes the correct way is u start the engine then plug ANY ADDITIONAL instrument so that the output of the power outlet in your car will be from the dynamic distributor and not from the battery directly!!
I have the same problem-can't connect via Usb anymore.does anyone know how much the repair will cost?My Orbit is out of warranty.Or is there any other workaround fo the problem?

apparently there is a company in London that will do the repair for £20, not sure on details tho.
i'll have a look around, as i'm looking to get mine repaired too. If you find details please post
Hey Guys & Gals,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have hard bricked my Epic 4G. I was flashing the SPH-D700-EC05-8gb-REL.tar via Odin v 1.61. The flashing process froze on "datafs" portion of the flashing process.
The phone's screen went black after awhile, so I decided to pull the stock USB cable from the phone like a smart person. I then pulled the battery and put it back in the phone. When I tried to re-enter download mode I was unsuccessful.
The phone is now unresponsive. No red light when "charging" the phone. The phone will not go into download by holding the "1" on the keyboard while pressing the power button. No response from the phone at all. I have tried different batteries and USB cables with no avail.
I tried removing the battery, pressing the power button to discharge capacitors, etc then placing the USB cable in and trying to enter download mode and every incarnation of that process.
I even tried MysteryEmotions "Reset Button" trick.....which by the way, there is no button underneath the plastic as I even dismantled my phone to check.
I am looking for help in JTAGing my phone. I have experience with doing so on other devices.
First, is it possible to build you're own JTAG to low level flash the mainboard. I do not want to buy a RIFF Box. I have a JTAG I made that is a 20 Pin Serial to 5 pin JTAG with resistors soldered on for another project in the past.
Second, if I can use a homemade JTAG, is there software that can help or can I use the ressurector software from Riff Box?
Third, It looks like the JTAG pins are under the Camera Flex Ribbon, is this correct? Does anyone know the pinout for JTAg purposes?
I don't have the TEP insurance through Sprint. The phone was purchased 8 months ago but I do not have the receipt anymore.
I have considered going back to Sprint and getting a new one for $35 or sending it to Samsung to JTAG it.
How much does Samsung charge for JTAg...it sounded like $35 under the 1 yr warranty.
I have searched these forums extensively with no clear cut answers. Any help with these questions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Again,
Green Andy
Pull out SD card and battery, put battery back but leave SD card out, boot into download mode (1 key + power button).

I appreciate your response ghostrid3r. Unfortunately, I had tried this tactic as well to no avail.
I am a man that never posts because I believe the answer is already out there and just need to google the [email protected] out of it until you find it, but this problem has me stumped. I tried your method for giggles again but it did not work. Thank you though it is appreciated.
I assume you tried to leave the battery out for about 10-30mins, then retried to get into download mode?

Yes I did sir. I even left it out over night, pressed all the buttons to discharge any remaining power in the capcitors and used my wife's fully charged battery etc without success. Thanks again for the input however.
Sounds like time for a trip to the Sprint store. It is still under warranty so they will replace it.

I'm starting to think that myself. Now since I do not have the "Equipment Protection" insurance plan but am still under manufacturer warranty, a sprint store would handle giving me a new phone and the would send my old phone back to Samsung? I thought I would have to send the phone back to Samsung. Is my thinking correct on this?

Most stores will order you a replacement. Tell them it was on the charger and when you took it off it would not come on.
Ok folks problem solved.
Went to the Sprint store and they were unabe to repair it. Since I do not have the TEP insurance, they charge $35 for a refurbished phone. I asked the sales rep what would I had done if my phone was out of the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty. He stated they would have replaced my phone with a refurb anyway for the $35.
So it's $35 for exchange. I did not have to send it back to Samsung on my own.
I also considered sending my phone to mobiletechvideos.com for $50. I learned about this business from the forums here....I would imagine this business is legit.
A riff box costs $150, which is a JTAG box for cell phones.
Moral of the story, is ODIN freezes.....DO NOT PULL YOUR USB CORD OUT OF THE PHONE! First see if it will eventually complete. If it does not, check the forums to see what to do but do not disconnect the USB cord.
Thanks again to ghostrid3r & kennyglass123 for your advice and help.
Hey there glad to see you found me before making your final decision. I definitely can JTAG the Epic back to life and repair it and would have loved to but hey glad you are back to going. To answer a few of your questions, nobody has developed a DIY JTAG solution, you can't use anything but a Riff Box with the Riff Software and the pinouts are available with the Riff software. Still though, the pins are around .2mm in size and require some decent skill to connect to but you may be familar with that size factor.
Thanks for the info regarding DIY JTAG's connexion2005. I've done the .2 mm size soldering contacts before with a very fine tipped 15 watt soldering iron, a steady hand and patience. It's a fun hobby and a good skill to learn especially since most components are surface mounted these days. You are in my Rolodex for future reference and services though.....thanks again.
For future reference re download all of your odin files pit, tar & rom. Also make sure your usb cable is good. Those are the only 2 things that make odin freeze. Odin itself usually doesn't freeze.

This seems to hold very true. I followed your advice and reflashed my wife's GB leak back to Stock EC05 and Odin behaved itself. The stock USB cables suck. Thanks Again!
My phone just doesn't charge anymore.. I've googled and googled. I found one page where a guy said to push up on the tongue of the port to get it centered, but that didnt help at all. I've tried multiple cords with no luck. So I have two questions. What is better to go to for help. My verizon store? Or talk to them on the phone? And if i do, would i need to return to stock? No wait, 3.. if i do need to return to stock, how would i do that with a dead phone? I posted a question on rootz aswell with no solutions yet, maybe y'all will have some ideas. Thanks ahead!

Had the same problem recently. It's a hardware issue, the only way to fix is to change the board inside the phone than contains the USB port.
And there is unfortunately no way of re-locking the bootloader, since your phone won't get a connection to a computer due to the dead port.
I looked around in an local Android forum and found someone who could fix my phone for a very fair price. The USB board is not expensive, you can get one on ebay for about 10 dollars
Hop this helps.

When i connect it to the pc it tries to install drivers, but then nothing happens
try getting into fastboot..
or try connecting it to the pc n install the toolkit n then use the option 16
OK you can try to install the qualcomm drivers as the phone must be in download mode. That`s why its recognising it.
Then I think you need to flash a hex image or something.
Take a look:

Maybe one of the kind members here (a regular) may let you send it to them in the states and you could RMA it from there?

Not sure what should i do
What rom did you flash?
Seroiusly mate. IMHO if you don`t have the qualcomm hex images (or whatever they are) or a means of JTAGing your phone, then only option is to send it to someone in the US who can RMA it. For the cost of postage and maybe a beer for the kind person, they could do it for you.
Assuming you ordered it from your Google account when you was in the US...
1) Find someone trustworthy in US
2) Ask if you can send your Nexus 4 to them
3) They RMA it using your account details
4) They send the new device to you in Europe when google drop it off.
Everyones happy.

Yeah, but shipping to US takes weeks, RMA takes weeks too
Might ask in Italy before

as i seem to recall, even an unlocked bootloader wont give u access to boatloader partition and other important partitions..
which makes it still recoverable..
if u ask me, get a different pc with windows vista/7 *not windows 8*, download the nexus drivers from xda and install and then try flashing via fastboot..
and if i seem to recall, the installation scripts in the rom.zip dont format partitions numbers but use tags such as system or data which is predefined so you cant flash system in bootloader by mistake..
ofcourse, i can be wrong
Can't go in fastboot mode, that's the problem
I think the only option is to send it to a JTAG service, if sending to google aint possible. I remember reading it was around 60 USD to revive a nexus 4.
maybe its the charge?
leave it for charging for 30 min-ish
then try fastboot
or try holding power for 20 second-ish to make sure the phone's restarted
as in, maybe its semi-booted
Charging doesn't work, will need a JTAG service or ask LG support
Just noticed this on W8

I know it may take a while, but it`s a means to an end. A bricked Nexus 4 is no good to anyone, unless you want to sell it for a pittance for parts...
Personally I wouldn`t care if it took weeks. You would be getting a brand new phone eventually.

DOOOO ITTTTTTTTT !!!!
On a serious note, i bricked my nexus somehow a while back and these guys were able to fix my phone , they are very trustworthy.
BTW they do have international shipping too
EDIT: just checked , its 105 dollars in total for a repair, you have a couple choices: you can sell your phone for pieces (there is high demand for screens since everyone is cracking theirs, and as you know it doesnt work after being cracked), you can find someone local to repair, and your last choice is to just take the bullet and pay 105 dollars (+ shipping from your area to them) to send and repair your phone.
I'm sure there's another way to fix it bro.. It can't be that hard. Just search around

Yeah, don't remind me.... (been there, done that)
But on a related note, sounds like a JTAG is definitely in order. If you're comfortable learning how to use a JTAG yourself, I believe they're about $150-200. You can fix your phone, and keep the JTAG to start fixing other phones in your spare time. After a few repairs, it would pay for itself! I've often considered going this route. Something I've thought of doing is buying bricked phones for cheap, fix them with a JTAG, and resell them for profit. Could be a fun little business and you'd learn a lot about several different devices. Look up the RIFF Box or Medusa Box - definitely do some research first, if you decide to go through with this. Just a suggestion at the very least...
By mistake i flashed nexus 4 kernel to my og and hard bricked my phone. I went to local shop repairer and they opened the back of the phone and connect many wires to the board and connect it to pc.They did something in their pc(something in cmd, don't know exactly) and they said that software installation process went till 71% and the phone switched off because of low battery. Is this really possible without JTAG? or they telling lies?
That is in fact JTAG Riff. They open the phone and connect some wires to the back of the phone and transfer the needed files to bring back the phone to life.
