Questions---
1. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells have the same preloaded junk that comes on the one at the AT&T store?
2. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells been stripped of some of the Note II futures like the one at the AT&T store?

Be aware that the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note II is currently missing various standard functionality that Samsung is marketing and the other major carriers provide- missing functionality include:
~Multiview
~Group Shot Camera mode - with the ability to change faces
~Mobile data toggle
~Blocking mode toggle
~Screen Recorder
Since I am trying to get the most bang for my buck (a lot of bucks) which Note II phone that will work on AT&T that has 4G LTE should I be looking at?
(note- I suffered waiting on an ICS update from AT&T, so not having to depended on AT&T for my Android updates is a big plus)

The Note II that is in the Best Buy and AT&T stores are going to be exactly the same. Given your concerns with the missing features compared to the international model, keep in mind once you root the device and install a custom recovery on it, you can flash N7105 ROMs to essentially make it function identical to the international model but with AT&T LTE. I've been doing that since I've had the phone and it works perfectly (No AT&T preinstalled apps and all the features you want): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575

^^^ I don't even know why you bothered answering this absurdly asinine question. I'm questioning the seriousness of it. The entire OP statement was a grammatical nightmare. I just told my bestie what was asked, and after he died laughing, he ripped him to shreds. To suggest that Best Buy somehow had some control over what goes inside of a phone ... like they have their own phone service or software peripherals. I don't even know where to begin. Perhaps an iPhone 5 would be more akin to your needs, OP.
Everyone's got to start from somewhere, given the fact how much control U.S. carriers have over handsets to go as far as locking the bootloader or placing their company logo on the device's home button, it's a legitimate concern. As far as grammatical errors go, I've seen much worse.
If I'm not mistaken, Best Buy did sell devices that were exclusive to them such as a white HTC Incredible and a few other handsets.
Just curious... What are some Rootable Phones for Verizon with Custom Rom support? I'm looking to move on from the Note 4.. What do you guys Recommend? Thanks
Majority of phones are escpecially flagship devices look up the model with the word root at the end make sure whatever u find is for your model and your Android version then follow root instructions EXACTLY

Stay away from the Note 4. Its locked down tight, there will be no root.
Keep an eye on this thread and you could possibly buy a Note 4 Developer Edition. You'd have to buy it outright but it'd be worth it. That's how I got mine. If you buy from Verizon or another retail outlet you'll end up paying full price over time anyway. There is no better phone than the N4DE.

Not really useful. The majority have HAD root on lower firmware, ie: note 3.
What would be useful to know is what phones have MAINTAINED root throughout all OTA.
Locked bootloadet is a different story. Almost impossible with all phones after Note 2.

I abandoned 5 verizon lines over the VZW note 4
In my area of the country, T-mobile signal is great, and all their flagships are rootable/rom-able, even the ones that dont have root on other carriers (ATT, Sprint). Note 5 is rooted, rommed on T-mo, not on VZW. I am really sorry to see that; all my old pals after 10 years on verizon are locked out of their phones. I couldn't stand it anymore.
I hope things work out for you. Some folks can't easily switch; or dont want to, and I'm not trying to sell a fanboy stance- just sharing what I had to do to get what I actually wanted to pay for.

I hear you. With five UDP lines, Verizon has me around its pinky. I must play its game, and bend over and take its locked down phones, as they have me addicted to their LTE crack and unlimited hotspot.
Nexus phones, DE phones, and XDA are the silver lining.
Once UDP gets officially killed, it's off to an MVNO.
But here is my list of known rootable phones:
GS3 on latest firmware
Note 2 on latest firmware (4.4.2)
Note 3 ONLY prior to 4.4.4
GS5 on 5.0 (need to downgrade to KK)
And phones I have with NO root.
Note 4 on any firmware
Note 5
V10
Note 3 on 4.4.4

I'm in the same boat brother. I've tried the v10 but I'm addicted to Viper4Android and do pentesting. Root is a mandatory for me.
The thing that pisses me off about Verizon is I should be able to use my Hardware to its full capacity and potential given that I paid for the Hardware in full and I'm not on a monthly payment plan. I think Verizon's rationale is for customer safety, however people who know how to root their phone know how to protect their phone. I can compare it to Cable television.... I refuse to buy Cable because I don't want to pay to watch advertisements. I think it's absurd that these companies can charge you for data or television and then use your own money in way that you did not approve of. Its like bloat for phones or popup advertisements from verizon to buy more upgrades/roadside freaking assistance. I didn't approve of my data to be used by verizon to sell me stuff. My usage in terms of the things transmitted to my phone should be a one way street... nothing should come to my phone that I didn't ask for including Verizon's various pop up services for premium voicemail excetera.
In my opinion its unauthorized use of the things that I paid for and I own. And its stupid that I cant utilize my 600 dollar phone to its potential when I've paid for all services software and hardware.
but Verizon's full of a bunch of sh!t heads anyways that's why either workers are on strike.

This would be good info if it was updated as Verizon phones gain root. I have the Moto Z, bought it before checking XDA, now i'm kicking myself in the ass! Sad thing though, is none of the other Verizon phones even appealed to me, minus the LG G5, but that one i don't think even has root yet either.
I have the LG v10 and rooted but no bootload3r unlock. Now that the note 4 is rootable and the bootload3r can be unlocked, I'm scrapping my v10 and buying the note 4 retail.

Note 4 king of the verizon hill for power users hands down.
For rooting and bootloader unlocking there isn't a Verizon phone better suited than the Nexus 6P. Better than the note 4.

Maybe. But I can replace my battery, insert a SD card and have the S-Pen. The Nexus 6P will get Nougat and whatever will follow while the Note 4 will only get security updates.

Nexus 6p will only get whatever update you allow it. I never take updates when I root. Plus I never stay with the stock ROM. I use CM13. With the Nexus having 128gb of space there's no issues with space but I will agree it needs a swappable battery.

I know there is no way to unlock the bootloader on an att Note 4, but if ATT unlocks it would it become an International Version and can the bootloader be unlocked? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I cant believe I didnt come here before I bought 2 brand new at&t Note 4's Unlocked. What an idiot I am. Just never had a at&t and didnt think anything of it because everytime I have wanted to root and mod my previous phones, I never had a problem.. I never had at&t though.. uhhgg. maybe by the time I just cant stand the stock rom, they will unlock the bootloader? I dont know if that's how it works...
Oh well, sad man here.

Oh I feel you man. Note 4 was my first phone on ATT and I regret it. If I wanted to be locked down I would get a iphone. Still the note 4 is a great phone just with a lot of unused potential.

Well, I just sent a return request for one of the note 4's. AND just bought a USED sm910T from ebay.
So, instead of me getting a brand new AT&T UNMODDABLE note 4, I will be getting a used but in great condition T-Mobile note 4.
And if I can get out of the restocking fees from the return, I will come out 50 bucks ahead. Cool.
The other new note 4 went to my daughter for xmas, and she already broke the screen. DOH!!
I lucked out this time I guess.

Yeah man, I'ved used At&t for years. Some phones still ended up rooting and unlocked (Sky-Rocket, LG E970, and Note II) this is the 1st phone I purchased that couldn't be rooted to install ROMs and Mods. Very annoyed but glad to know after this experience we know not to buy from At&t directly. Either buy unlocked form Swappa, eBay or Amazon or know that you will be limited when you buy from carrier. In the mean time if you really want out, pay the bill so its clear for selling, and sell it online or in person. Also you can wait it out until the next upgrade.

Never again for me, not directly from AT&T & maybe not Samsung. [AT&T-Captivate, and VZ-Note2..rooted and other ROM'd but now ]. Question: what aspect of the hardware allows a carrier's specific bands of LTE to function? Or is it that the hardware is fully "plastic", capable of any LTE banding given the software[albeit locked] and SIM[mine unlocked] ? There are multiple Note4's. AT&Ts also runs UMTS and GSM. T's? Verizon's also runs its EV-DO. Perhaps these 2G, and 3G aspects become irrelevant and the 4G/LTE buildout completes, but the question remains over capability on carrier specific LTE bands.
With my SIM unlocked Note4 I used a VODA SIM this summer in Italy, but don't recall whether I had access to LTE , or evn which data mode functioned.

If I have to use a custom kernel, which one is the most stable?

Ok, to cut a long story short;
i bought a note 4 on an online australian shop for $470 (really hard without a job)
Anyway, they noted that their phones are from GENUINE Suppliers and i got a Note 4 UNLOCKED from, you guessed it. AT&T.
Now i wasnt too fussed. I was happy i got a note 4 that wasnt a chinese brick phone, since it technically was refurbished from their Hong Kong Warehouse. Anyways
After like...idk 2 months? approx? i decided i wanna root it. Guess what?! BOOTLOADER. WHAT THE ***T!!
Anyway, i spoke to some people, one said he hasnt rooted a phone passed gen 6. and the other person said 'no cant root. Bootloader is locked and no way to bypass.'
Soo im wondering if its possible to root the phone without removing bootloader? I dont restart my phone much and the whole bootloader doesnt worry me so im just curious if i can chuck a stock rom on without worrying about the bootloader.
Some background info:
I am Australian, therefore my phone is running under Australian networks (Boost, Lyca, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, etc)
It is filled with unwanted, unnecessary AT&T bloatware.

No root or bootloader unlock yet or maybe ever....u can disable all the att stuff but not remove completely without root. At least it will cleanup ure app drawer a lil.

PlayStation 3 = reverse engineered
iPhone = jailbroken
Why isn't the AT&T Note4 unlocked yet? Would offering a bounty help? Is it impossible to unlock? Is it a matter of time? Is it a matter of throwing lots of computation power against the lock?
What will finally get the AT&T Note4 unlocked?

Is there no bounty offered? If each ATT Note4 owner chips in a few dollars, we could raise a bounty of several hundred dollars. Then some tech-wiz can take much time trying to unlock the bootloader.

Yes, FRP lock is on and no option to turn it off anywhere like on the Exynos model.
I don't see why samsung, and if not them the companies, have to be dicks about this and screw over their US clients.

It is shame. One of the reasons that I switched to Tmobile was because their Samsung phones always had unlocked bootloaders.
I learned my lesson with the s7 edge and didn't buy the phone right away this time around. My Note 7 with root was amazing, but we all know what happen with it.

I feel your pain. I switched from at&t for that very same reason and now all us models have locked bootloaders, but with all the customization you could do to these phones rooting and flashing isn't really necessary for me anymore. I just like the phone all around. It's a great phone. [emoji4]

Lol... its a well known fact that the international devices get faster and more frequent updates than US or Canadian devices ever will.
I was laughing at all the guys on US/ Can s7s whining about no update to nougat..i had nougat on my international S7 edge mos before they did.

I had both TMobile branded S7 edges and international models as well. I found that I actually preferred the TMobile version for volte, rcs messaging, native video calling and a few more small percs. Yeah the international models was bootloader unlockable and had faster updates but I had to do so many work arounds to get it close to how I wanted and yet it still never did. I could have rooted and got everything I wanted but I actually use Samsung Pay and that'd kill that. To each their own. I also recall the TMobile S7 edge and note 7's having a locked bootloader still eventually got root.

True the international versions lack some features but depending on your use they may or may not matter..for me I could care less about any of those so no biggie but others may need them.
Id rather have root,twrp and roms etc
The root on the s7 and note 7 snaps was via leaked engineering firmware and it wasnt ideal...buggy, slow and just a general pain to deal with.

Yep, I had the s7 edge and rooted it but it wasn't the same as when I had the T-Mobile version of the phone. It was a pain. These phones are great and I rather use it to its fullest. I also use android pay and want to use samsung pay so for me I'm good without unlocked billiards for now. I have a bunch of phones I have rooted that I can get my flashaholic tendency out. Lol. My pixel gives me that pure android feel so having a vendor feel is ok with me. I will be going back and fourth. I also don't know how having an international version will affect the gigabit network update when it comes out.

You get what you choose. I chose a carrier model because it is superior in network quality. I can't root my primary phone anymore because my work policies flag rooted phones automatically and I stop syncing. For my playground, I have Pixel XL. Fastest updates, unlocked everything. For a reliable phone I have TMobile S8+. Like i said, you get what you pay for and pick up.
I mean hey sure the bootloader is locked, but once the right person gets one of these in their hands Im sure there will be an exploit. Just gotta wait patiently good things come to those who wait!

While it is software written by humans and anything is possible. S7 never got an unlocked bootloader. We got root with the eng_boot.imgs, but never an unlocked bl.
But I'm holding hope. The community is full of extremely clever people.
Really sucks, I recall the heyday of the Galaxy Note II and SIII, man back then there were like 200 ROM's out, Touchwiz, AOSP, CyanogenMod, etc... Root and Recovery available the first week the phones released.
And I'm talking the U.S. carrier phones too. Not just the international.
And then they all stopped after the Galaxy S4 came out. They released a firmware and locked the **** down like a Navy sub going deep. Note 3 too LOCKED. And forever the good days long gone.
Except the T-Mobile Note 5 was rooted and ROM. But that was a freak rarity.
Now root and recovery are things of dreams for Galaxy phones.

Whole reason I moved to T-Mobile two years ago, was for the unlocked bootloaders that T-Mo was famous for, even when Verizon and ATT didn't allow that anymore. The Galaxy Note 5 was their last unlocked phone, since then, the S7, and Note7 were LOCKED, and looks like the S8 is too.
Glory days are gone.
Almost like the Jailbreak scene, which has faded bad, and there's only a stable JB released maybe once a year or every 18 months.

I just got the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ on September 30th, SM-N975U1 variant, and I cannot toggle the OEM unlocking because it is missing. I read that this is due to the KG state of the phone and I would have to wait 7 days for it to be an option to toggle. I am trying to find out from other Note 10+ users with the same variant as mine if the option appeared after waiting 7 days?

Unfortunately the "U" variant does not have an unlockable bootloader. The OEM toggle is not there so that variant cannot be rooted (no USA variants can at the moment).
Exynos equals root.

For realsies? none of the "U" Variant... So I cant root my note 10+ SM-N975U? Dang that really grinds my gears!!!!!!!!
Leave it to samsung to figure out a new way to keep people from rooting their phones... "Hey lets get rid of the OEM unlock toggle, that way they cant unlock the bootloader and root their phone, and will have to keep all the bloatware we, and their carrier, force down their throats against their will, whether they want to or not."
I knew I never should have bought this phone. I swore 6 years ago I would never own another Samsung Device, but then they came out with this cool new phone and I wanted it so bad. I should have just waited until the pixel 4 XL came out and bought it instead.
Guess I'll Know better next time around at least, and by the time I need a new phone hopefully all phones will have the inscreen ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

1. You could have informed yourself prior to buying, it is common knowledge US SD-models have locked bootloader and cannot be rooted...
2. It is merely a US-provider requirement to have locked bootloader, not Samsung's choice. Note 10/10+ is rootable in most other parts of the world..

What do u mean SD Models? Also if it's a us provider requirement then how come you can buy phones that have the OEM unlock option available on them?
Also this page is the first I even heard of it... Every time I search it shows that 7 days after you activate it the OEM unlock shows up. And on top of that just because it's not rootable at the time of purchase doesn't mean somewhere down the line someone won't figure out how to.
In fact my last phone was sold by a carrier, as carrier unlocked, and it had the bootloader toggle on it as well which made rooting a breeze.

And besides that if you buy the carrier unlocked version of the note 10+ it should be your choice what you do with it not carriers and not manufactures.
Oh also I found an article (link below) Where someone managed to root the note 10+ SM-N975U with a patched boot image, which I would assume would also work for SM-N975U1 as well.
So like I said it's only a matter of time before someone figured out how to root it anyway. And my post was me griping at Samsung for doing what they did, and staying if I had waited I could have gotten a device that is made by a company that isn't actively trying to thwart rooting.

SD=Snapdragon, the SoC of the N975U/N975U1 phones. Those devices for US market have the locked bootloader.
The models with Exynos SoC (Samsung's own SoC), in models of most international markets N975F have working OEM unlock option and thereby unlockable bootloader.
Why would Samsung provide unlockable bootloader for one part of the world, but not for US where phones have US SoC (I.c. Snapdragon)? You tell me...

try setting a lock. i've had this same issue and thats what worked for me. Although when i unlock and root, it factory reset which sucked.

Well why not do a oneplus/google thing where unlocked versions have unlockable bootloaders while carrier versions don't?

It is a nice device stock, after flashing the N975U1 firmware with ODIN, and disabling (at least), about 150 system-apps with ADB, it is fast and efficient.
I can't imagine how nice the Note 10+ would be with administrative rights.
