T-mobile LG V30 ThinQ gets Android 9.0 Pie Update - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

https://www.mylgphones.com/t-mobile-lg-v30-thinq-gets-android-9-0-pie-update.html

I have a LgV30 with 7.1.2, t mobile.
wanna upgrade to 9.0.
Nothing I do makes my mac or my pc recognize my phone. I've used Lg bridge & Lg pc suite.
Sometimes android file transfer works, but that's not for upgrading OS.
Somebody mentioned upgrading OS from google drive?
How would I do that?
Any suggesions appreciated.
I'm about to give up & buy the LgV40,
cuz all I really want is color management
so my edited pix look the same across devices.
Thanks.

You would not be using LG Bridge or LG PC Suite. You need to read post #2. Right there at the beginning of the thread! Post #2.
Go to the KDZ thread link and install using Dev Patched LGUP.

Just to make sure: Your phone is model H932 (T-Mobile version of V30). Right?
This thread is for H932, and you do say you're "with" T-Mobile, so I assume that's what you have. I only ask because H932 normally works with LG Bridge. And if you use the KDZ thread mentioned in post #2 with ANY other V30 model, you will brick your phone.
So just making sure

Good point!
@ericLindellNYC, don't care if you have an LG "V30". There's a few V30 that will work on T-mobile. But do you have a T-mobile H932? If you don't, then tell us what you do have, and we can tell you how to update THAT to Pie.
If you do have a T-mobile H932, then my previous answer will tell you all you need, when you go to the KDZ thread for the T-mobile H932.

We know.
But OTA is partial image update -- dependent on your carrier and if your phone acts right.
KDZ is full image, which will always be superior. You can control exactly when and how you flash -- Upgrade (like a manual OTA, keeping data if full stock) , Refurbish, Partition DL.
Most of us on XDA have unlocked bootloaders and TWRP custom recovery. So, we want total control over how to flash updates. But even if I was full stock (which my spare V30+ is), I still flash full image KDZ via Dev Patched LGUP.
If something goes wrong, I can fix it right then.

I have full stock LG-H932. Should I just download OTA?

Sure, kdz if needed

Just double checking to verify. This update is still arb0?
I recently went back to 100% stock and don't plan to root again for at least a little while. So, I want to make double double sure that after installing this update we can still roll back and root or whatever we want to do.

All other pies were ARB00; not sure bout T-Mobile

I was skeptical that it would be ARB0, but the filename says 00, so I guess it really is: H93230d_00_0902.KDZ.
I haven't installed it myself, but I trust it. All the other LG Pies worldwide have been ARB0.
I'm stock too, waiting for LG to hopefully approve a warranty claim on my touchscreen. And I was concerned that an ARB1 update might arrive before, since they always send phones back with the latest update after repair or replacement.

... I just got the Pie update, AND once again no Project Treble. There is already Project Mainline coming to devices, and LG couldn't even manage to get that done after about a year waiting for Pie. Not sure what the G stands for in LG, but I hope it isn't for greatness.

Yeah, i got the update too, now i'm in Algeria but i have a network locked phone but i still get the update, but how do i unlock that phone ! i didn't find a solution, even paid one ! any help ?

There never will be Treble for "Joan" V30/30+/V30S. Even when some V30 next year get LG stock Android 10. So not sure why you are even mentioning Treble.
It's been explained over and over, yet for some reason people keep expecting Treble? Don't know why. Either you're new or not been paying attention. . Was thoroughly discussed last year when Oreo update came...
V30 series launched bwith Nougat, in 2017. There's no requirement for Treble except for Android devices that LAUNCHED with Oreo.
Trying to send any updates that not only update OS but also create some new Treble partition across ALL the many variants and carriers worldwide would be a disaster waiting to happen. And would take even LONGER to roll out Pie.

Yep, so it seems. It would be nice if LG can make it possible as an option using say LG Bridge with instructions that would backup the entire partition so that nothing would be lost after the re-partitioning.
Has anybody been successful creating a vendor partition for H932 using the SGCMarkus guide: How to repartition for vendor and how to use GSIs?

Sorry, there's no easy solution. You had to find the guy online who can spoof a m another T-Mobile model number and I think you have to downgrade to Nouga5 for it to work. He went by TMobile killer or something like that and it cost money.
Instructions were posted but removed by mods because obstensibly it was advertising for a commercial service.
Do NOT fall for scammers who claim they can give you a "code" that will carrier unlock/SIM card unlock T-Mobile H932. Simple code will NOT work.
Basically the only people who should buy T-Mobile phones are T-Mobile customers....

Yes, many people tried that.
But now that we have tons of regular ROMs with everything working except for stock camera and VoLTE most people just use those.
Or run rooted stock firmware with Magisk and edXposed modules.

Others (but not all) have reported those lags on Pie.
You could try this weird fix shared by @thefpspower: Simply make a backup in LG Bridge. You don't have to restore it, just make the backup. Some app permissions/settings may have to be redone afterwards.
If that doesn't work, I suggest a Master Reset. NOT just a Factory Reset, but the button dance.

What is the difference between models? Is it a ton of work for the devs to port it over?
I wish I had time to learn this stuff...
I don't know how difficult it is to do, but I can't imagine it's very easy or it would be done already.
Can't wait for this to be ported...loving my AOSP at the moment though!

Porting it shouldn't require extensive testing since the release to hardware for d855 is almost identicle to ours but the kernel has to play well otherwise we will have to wait for t-mobiles official release. The real question is how easy will it be to reroot.
At this point I don't care about root, I just want Stock Lollipop on my T-mobile LG G3.
Still no lollipop

DONT DO IT!! It breaks root and thats about all it does.
I started noticing that every time I would update to the latest version then root my D851 I would almost immediately recieve an update from Tmo. It's something built into their version of the firmware, maybe in the ever intrusive Tmo bloatware (My account etc), but it seems they can detect root and thats all these updates are for. To break your root access.
I ended up getting sick of it, installing TWRP and flashing the Unofficial CM12 build. No real problems with it so far.

The next update I'll do will either be stock lollipop or CM12 official.
I heard someone say that" Its like that can detect you have root" I know for a fact that T-Mobile can detect that you have root.. Hell they told me over the phone that my phone is rooted. Only thing they didnt tell me was my OS version. which changes from time to time.. and yes its LP. not the stock LP that we should be getting soon. I also checked into
when will we get LP on T-Mobile and they told me, between April and Summer time.. it was supposed to be release already but some problems delayed it.
Dont forget that when Google releases the LP then LG has to get with all major Carriers and agree what goes into and what doesnt go into.. and then it gets tested by carrier for they told me 2 weeks before the OK is givin over to Carrier (T-Mobile) . Then LG wil Roll out the releases..
Me Personaly, I wont update to stock LP till I know there is a ROOT method that works.. I just want my wifi calling back. which only T-Mobile has.. so thats why I want the T-Mobile LP.. But till Root is working with stock T-Mobile LP. I will just wait......... I run ACIP 5.02 and Resurrection Remix 5.02 with MultiROM..

It's built in my account via diagnostics to ensure that's what is causing the problems or not during troubleshooting. And no, we do not push out updates to break root. That's not our priority. We dgaf what you do with your phone, but if it's rooted it just voids warranty, that's all.

also, from various sources, you can't Jump! while rooted

Don't buy a V30 if you want root

Unless you buy one of the models direct from LG (H930 (EU) or H930G (EU) with LG's blessing to unlock the bootloader (ya know, you have to kiss a little a**, void your warranty, and sacrifice your first born) , the V30 will never be rooted. Also, the H932 (T-Mobile) variant might eventually be rooted, maybe, sorta, kinda if a kernel exploit is found. However it looks like on this model that unlocking the bootloader only stop the AVB check on the boot partition -- recovery appears to still be checked.
They have:
* Encrypted the firmware. Yep, there is no reverse engineering it, because what is in the KDZ or on the NAND is encrypted. When the phone loads the firmware, it gets decrypted into RAM.
* Locked lafd down even further. The hack that is going to get us root, won't work on the V30, and you can bet your rear that when Oreo comes out for the V20, LG will update lafd.
** Over the weekend I pulled down KDZs from every model (that has one) of the G5, V20 and G6. I was looking at the possibility to flash an older version of LAF that is still exploitable.
In order for that to succeed, the AVB signature of the laf partition had to match the stock LAF so that abl would load it. No luck in finding one. LG is now using different certs:
1 - signing the firmware
2 - AVB (boot, recovery, laf)
3 - lafd (the SIGN opcode)
* This next one is just speculation because all the pieces aren't in place yet, but it looks like my fear that LG would go to encrypted OTA updates, and completely remove LAF will be coming soon.
So, as soon as my phone gets back, I will finish the work on the LAFsploit, and then wait for the OnePlus 6 or RAZER 2. I will be buying a developer friendly phone that ships with Oreo, so they will have project Treble.

I appreciate that man.
Just for the heck of it I pulled down firmware for the OnePlus 5T to see how they do things. It is really no different. Their firmware is encrypted as well (this looks like it is a SD835 thing -- the 845 is going to be even worse).
The only reason that phone is so popular is the fact that there are no hoops to jump through to unlock the bootloader.
I am still looking for an OEM that will sell me not only the phone, but the KEYS to the phone. I would love to be able to sign my OWN bootloader. What if you bought a PC, and were stuck with Windows.
These days, a phone IS a PC -- and I want to run whatever I want to. If I want to repartition the NAND, it is my RIGHT to do so. We are stuck in this situation because we have ALLOWED these companies to get away with it -- I guess we get what we deserve.
-- Brian
And honestly it's not going to change because the average person doesn't care about or to know what a bootloader is. And if you say "root" to them they are waiting for "beer" to be the next word following that.
Thanks for the warning but this is the V20 forum. We are not going to buy a V30.

I totally agree. I was a Note fan until the Note 8, which even if you get the international version it has significant problems with rooting and customization.
I will absolutely be looking at the OnePlus 6 and Pixel 3 and Essential phones just for the ability to customize.

Cheers!
I got the oneplus 5t for the wife and it's sweet! It reminds me of the good old days when root didn't require months of effort. What the devs like you OP, did for this phone makes it easy to hold on to till the 6t. Probably the longest continuous run on the same ROM I have ever had. Unbranded is the future on XDA I guess.

Yes it is international, bootloader unlockable. You can flash EU OPEN firmware on it too if you want to get rid of all carrier branding and bloat. I imported one from Italy too, from TIM carrier. Got a good deal for 659 EUR.

I'm not in the EU, I'm in India and pretty much in the same boat. Leave aside the V30, this is the case since the G4
I've had to give up root for other benefits and that really is the only negative i've found going with LG

If you had followed the op of this thread, you would have known why he posted in the V20 section. He was thinking that if he cracked root for the v20, then G5 and V30 users would benefit as well.

No, you can root the v30 in the US -- just buy the us998.
I will update the first post to specify the models (h930 (EU) and us998 (US)). I will also add that *maybe* the h932 (T-Mobile) version *might* be rooted if another kernel exploit is found.

This build contains the July 5 2019 security patch level. Please leave a thumbs up if this is useful to you.
If you need root, flash Magisk from recovery and install Magisk Manager.
I you wish to install the Google apps, flash opengapps from recovery after first boot (you need to get the ARM version for Android 8.1 nano package is recommended).

I have one of these tablets and would love to use it but the custom rom seems to slow it down. It's Android 7. I have TWRP in it but I cannot seem to find a lighter rom to help speed things up. Any thoughts, suggestions?

Anything older than Nougat will probably suffer from multiple security vulnerabilities. Lineage 15.1 is the only ROM I found that works bug free on my tablet (14.1 has camera issues and 16.0 doesn't wake up when pushing the home button).

Hi @tc3500. If you have a previous build of lineage os 15.1 installed you can just flash the new zip in twrp and then reboot. If your tablet is stock, then you need to first root it and then install twrp recovery for the gtelwifiue first. The procedure for doing this is explained in another post on the forum. Please ensure that your model is SM T560NU or else this ROM might not work.

From memory, I rooted my tablet by flashing CF-Auto-Root-gtelwifiue-gtelwifiue-smt560nu.zip using Odin (PDA button)on Windows. Can't remember if that gave me twrp or if I had to install it seperately. Hope this helps a bit.
Note: Enable Developer Options: go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options. Enable OEM unlock and USB debugging options ( Settings -> Developer options )
Note: you will need to have the Samsung USB drivers installed, you can get those by installing the Samsung Kyes software.
Note: Make sure your device is in ODIN download mode (usually you can get there by holding VolDown+Home+Power when the device is turned off)
Backup of my twrp recovery in case you need it.

I have all of the files downloaded to my laptop.
And that took some time. I got a Note 9 last year and I rarely even turn my PC on anymore. So there were many updates and and misc things to attend. Also it is frustratingly slow compared to my phone, haha.
I do need to get CF Root.
But my concern is that my Tab E is a Wifi model. And I am not sure how to verify if it will accept this modification.
It is definitely an SM-T560NU. Specifically an
SM-T560NUUEU1CQK2. I think it's an A3L, not a
gtlewifiue. So I am trying to figure that out. I backed up the device and don't mind trying to move forward if there is more of a chance that I can at least recover it to oem rather than brick it. Any advice on verification of model or recovery if install fails?
Only a guess or opinion, I know that there are no guarantees, lol. But it is very slow and I do need to make my best attempt to improve it.
Thanks.

From what I gather the letters and digits that follow SM-T560NU describe the carrier or the country of origin but I could be wrong.
I can't advise you to try or not to try flashing this ROM but there is near certainty that you can restore your original firmware from this site using the Odin method if anything goes wrong as I've mentioned in my previous post. If what you're after is speed you could even flash an older firmware (lollipop or marshmallow) and disable auto-update but you'd be left exposed to multiple android security vulnerabilities that aren't present in this updated ROM.

I keep the tablet pretty clean. It's an 'extra' device.
Don't really store anything on it. Use if for the web and take it on the boat or guests can use it. I will gl with 15.1 and see what happens. Thanks so much.
I did get the Firmware downloaded, that site is SLOW if you're cheap like me, haha. Hope your day is a good one.

When I did mine almost a year ago, I rooted first, then I flashed the TWRP img from an app such as rashr or flashify (might have to install the SuperSU app first to get the permission dialogs). Then rebooted into recovery and flashed lineage from there. But now I'm wondering if you might be able to flash TWRP directly from Odin without needing to root first. I wish someone with a fresh experience could chime in here.
Anyhow here's a video I came across that might be helpful to you:
Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 Root & Install TWRP Recovery 100% Working
And yes the SamMobile site is painfully slow but it is a lifesaver if you brick your device. Once you have obtained the firmware, it is really easy to recover your device with Odin.

Any news on this, here in Oz we've been abandoned by LG to having only Android 9...
Everytime we ask about it LG says it's up to Google to release the update... What a crock since the rest of the world has it, we are the ONLY country yet to get Android 10...
This might give a little love to our forgotten, EXPENSIVE FLAGSHIP...

He's already shown that it's possible, give them time to develop the steps/guide to do it. Don't ask for ETAs, basic XDA rule.
Hi guys! Please be patient as there were some bricked devices.
All korean V50 can have this and also some G8.
If you dont have patience, join telegram group V50 and ask for help from Vlad48 aka VL48. White user also has the knowledge and also contributed a lot to this, but he doesnt speak english that good and you may get confused in doing things that will brick your phone.
I'm waiting to make an ALL IN ONE guide with everything in that ADB folder so that we will donwload just one file.
Almost all bricked devices so far were because of WRONG file placement inside adb folder if you believe it ...
That's no worries, not wanting an ETA.
Sorry, went off on a tangent there earlier due to overwork and night shift.
As I said, here in Oz we've been stranded with Android 9, security update is for Oct 19, with no Android 10 release in sight and only excuses and buck passing from LG.
Do we know if this will allow Android 9 to be rooted and, finally, be updated to the latest OS?
Cheers guys...

Yeah, there may be an issue there... You can only use temp root on Android 10. Specifically what phone model (carrier/region that the phone is from) do you have? I don't mean your current carrier necessarily, just the branding of your model.

It's the LM-V500EM, like Europe, however, it is distributed exclusively through Australia by Telstra.
This means we can't upgrade using another country's firmware but also, as we aren't part of Europe and UK, we can't unlock the bootloader. :crying:
Again, every time LG is asked about newer firmware the finger is pointed at Google.
When Telstra is asked, mostly just the sound of silence but if you do hear whispers it's no firmware has as yet been supplied and to check with the manufacturer of the device.
Google also has the advice Telstra give about the updated firmware which puts LG in the drivers seat and they're still sitting at the bar at the start of happy hour as far as Australia is concerned, and every hour is happy hour..
Hence we need to be able to unlock the bootloader and root to update our expensive and, supposedly flagship device.
You understand the frustration and impatience...
should we be looking for a brand in particular of the phone beside the korean one? Plannign to upgrade my v30

I see thanks. If a module breaks safety net, does uninstalling that module mean the device passes safety net again? Or is the device just permanently marked as unsafe?

Not to sound like a jerk, but I do think it's a valid question... what is the point of creating a thread promising a comprehensive 'All in one guide' to be 'released shortly', and also posting in the other root thread that a guide will be available, and then nearly a month later, there is still no guide? Again, I don't want to sound like a jerk because you're trying to help, but so far, you have just made empty promises and gotten peoples hopes up but not actually provided anything
(again, not trying to sound harsh, just posting as someone who has been keeping an eye on this for a month and now feeling frustrated)
Sorry, dont have time for this, anyone can make a new thread or admin delete this...

LG G8 Cannot Change APN

Hey everyone, having an issue with my LG G8. It is a sprint phone, however I was using it through T-Mobile. The problem came when I tried to switch to Mint Mobile, I am unable to edit any of the current APNs and I cannot select them or any new ones that I create. Because of this I have no data and cannot even call or text. Any help is appreciated!

Pretty sure that running the Sprint rom, you won't find a way to make it work (properly) with t-mo mvno. Why not just cross-flash to US Open rom? My G8 has that rom and it works great with Mint, has volte and vowifi etc.
Mine is orig Sprint also, used remote unlock to unlock from Sprint. Then used Bkerler EDL utilities to completely backup Sprint rom (no kdz available, also, many of the files backed up now available could be needed later).
then use Netmsm guide to do crossflash, you don't have to root, but can if you want to. Since there won't be any more updates, really no reason not to. Latest (and probably last) version is a11. It works very well.
cheers

Well, you "go through all that" if you don't happen to have a T-Mobile device. And, not sure where you're getting your information but, Google does not release the ROM for LG devices, LG does.
