Hey XDA forum users,
I had a question regarding the Note 10+ and connecting it to other devices with USB Type-A inputs, such as cars and speakers. I just bought my Note 10+ after having been an iPhone users for the past five years.
I noticed this week, while renting a car, I was unable to use my Note 10+ as an audio device using an USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable I bought into 2017 for my Nintendo Switch. I got this screen without an audio option. We tested the same cable on my friend's OnePlus 7 Pro and had the same issue.
I'm currently using this cable from Cable Matters: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CNZWMJG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ef2KDbV6QNBW5
Does anyone know how to fix this? Am I using an improper cable? Any recommendations?

You need a cable with a DAC chip inside, the phone output is digital, the input your system expects is analog. Search DAC in this forum.

Lots of discussion on this as mentioned. Get the apple dongle for 7 bux at amazon or pay the coin and get the samsung version. Both work as i have both/
You could also run the data to an external DAC first, I use Hugo2,but theres many cheaper options.

You'll get better sound quality that way too. So stupid they got rid of the headphone jack and DAC chip.
Yep, they should have included a built-in DAC st this price.
I bought the Samsung USB-C to Aux dongle with built-in DAC and it works..however, I still think my Huawei Mate 10 from two years ago has a lot better sound from its internal DAC.

Hi there,
I'm looking at returning back to the Android scene with a nice shiny new S3 after being over on the dark side with my iPhone (I know I know!!!). However, I do love one of the things I can do with my iPhone which is listen to my music in the car via the port at the bottom by using a Y cable which splits the output into a USB plug (for charging) and a 3.5mm Jack for AUX in sound.
Does the S3 offer music output and charging via the micro USB slot at the bottom? Has anyone tried this? I've done numerous search's and keep coming up short, with the exception of a post on here that shows the amendment of an iPhone Y cable into a Micro USB version, but that was for the S2.
If your interested in a car dock the Samsung infuse dock works for a single dock connection, but of course the dock has a charger and audio lead.
Hmm, worth thinking about! It's the all in one solution I'm after, so this might work.
Any idea if Samsung are going to bring an official dock for the s3?

We are all looking but the only thing official so far was a cradle (no connections). Speculation was perhaps an inductive charging dock but?..

The microusb does support outputting audio+taking in power.
I haven't seen a cheap cable for that purpose but just made one myself in the end from an old usb cable, an audio cable and a 690K resistor.
A y-cable made for the S2 should work fine on the S3 (that is what I based my cable on)
Ebay will probably have something suitable
Thanks for that, any write up on how it's done? What's the sound quality like please?

I am thinking of purchasing a DAC unit for my phone and wonder if anyone know if the micro USB port will work with an adapter to DAC unit?
Thank you
Well... I've tried Chord Hugo. It has dual USB ports. Only the standard port is android compatible. The other is hifi speced and need drivers on Windows or certain OSX versions. In my case it offers Bluetooth too.
Short version. If it is made for mobile units it probably has android support. A cheaper alternative is Chord Mojo... All depends what kind of money you are prepared to spend.

Yes DAC can be detected via usb... Using FIIO DACs
Got these anker headphones.
surprisingly good! good distance. good sound. small and light. has aptX and up to 7 hours of play time. blocks out a good amount of outside noise too. best of all is the price!
LINKS DELETED
also using some Amazon basics USB-A to C cables that work for charging and data transfer
Anker powerline+ works as well for charging and data transfer
but this Amazon cable DOES NOT work for data transfer.

Have you tried the cable in an USB2.0 port? There seems to be a general problem when connecting the Pixel2 via USB3.0 cable and port. Using 3.0 cable in a 2.0 port works. I can confirm this for my Syncwire cable.

thanks, well seems like i'm out of luck for the time being with that one amazon cable.
I ordered the anker cables in my original post afterwards and they work no problem
these headphones I mentioned in the original post are now on sale with code LGVDRPV3 !
Earbuds recommendation under 50$?
the earbuds I mentioned in the original post are on sale with code ANKER411
Thanks for this. Just got my Pixel 2 last week and going on an overseas trip next week. These will def help on the plane ride.
awesome! yea I def use them for travel and gym
Pixel 2 supports also better codec: Sony's LDAC (Every phone from Android 8 should provide this codec). I dont know if there are some cheap headphones with this codec but it is good to mention that.

Hi
I just bought a Pixel 2 XL off Facebook and am new to it.
1 - Does any adapter work for USB C to USB A Male if I want to transfer to computer? I have an older laptop about 12 years old.
2 - Does any USB C to headphone jack work? I saw some off Ebay but not sure if they work with any device.
3 - What is a good casting app? I have an LG Smart TV and would like to cast to it when I want to watch movies. I had a S3 and the video player app that came with it used to cast automatically and it would let me put subtitle srt files to it. I'd like something similar. I DL VLC player but not sure if that works with LG.

Hi,
I should be able to answer two of your questions...
1 - Phone comes with two USB cords.
1 x USB-C to USB-C for the OEM charger
1 x USB-C to USB-A (for 12 years old PC. )
Otherwise, here is a list USB-A to USB-C tested and reviewed by a google employee a few years ago:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ls/ref...nk_bb_marketplace&ref_=pdp_new_wl&ty=wishlist
2 - Not sure...
3 - Unfortunately, Google removed casting abilities from its devices. You have to pair it with:
https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast?hl=en-US
Or

Cheers...

The adapter I got for the USB C to USB A is only USB A is female and it can apparently only be used for OTG
Thanks
1. If you have an extra USB-A to MicroUSB cable laying around, they make adapters (readily available on Amazon) for the MicroUSB end to convert it to USB-C. I know as I regularly use one in the car and have a second one for any computer lacking a USB-C port, like an older laptop. @5.1's listing of cables may be correct in his home country, but not here in the USA. In the USA unlocked models came with just the USB-C to USB-C cable, the OTG adapter, the audio adapter, the SIM eject tool, and the charger.
2. Any third-party dongle with a USB-C end should work. If you purchased the MicroUSB to USB-C adapters I mentioned even an older dongle should work. The one included in the box is somewhat fragile from what I recall, so getting a third party dongle might be a better alternative even if you did get one.
3. I can't really help you when it comes to casting apps, as I don't use one. VLC however I think should work with your LG.
Hello,
Thanks @Strephon Alkhalikoi . I didn't know that... :good:

The USB C to 3.5mm dongle has a DAC in it so you need one that supports the Pixel (my wife has a Huawei and the DAC is in the phone, not the dongle, so the Huawei dongle doesn't work on my 2xl, and the Google dongle doesn't work on her P20 Pro)

I am currently on Ebay. Unfortunately the phone I bought second hand did not come with a USB C headphone jack.

Do you by any chance know where I would buy one? Any third party options?
As the title says. I guess you can say I'm using a generic USB-C cable to activate android auto. I noticed that the phone gets warm to hot but not to the point where it would cause over heating issues. Anybody else experiencing this problem or recommend a USB-C cable to use for android auto?
I haven't had any problems. I use the phone in my car with Android Auto every day. I'm using a high-quality Anker cable, however. I was using an old USB-C cable that I had from my 2016 HTC 10, but if my wife or I grabbed our phones, it would lose connection, so I finally replaced it. I already had the Anker cables - was just trying to use up my old cables first.
Edit: This is the package of Anker cables I grabbed the 3 foot cable out of, but this isn't available on Amazon at least any more, but just as an example. Anker Powerline USB-C to USB Cables (5-Pack: 4-inch, 3ft, and 6ft) for USB Type-C Devices Including Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8, S8+, S9, S10, iPad Pro 2018, MacBook, LG V20 G5 G6, HTC 10 and More
I would get this Anker cable if I needed one today. Powerline+ USB C to USB 3.0. I'm not clear on if every Android Auto car uses USB 3.x - I had one phone that only have a USB 2.x USB-C port and it still worked, but my first Android Auto car, the USB-A ports were blue, which is supposed to mean USB 3.x. I refuse to buy any USB cables that don't at least support 3.x though, as someday I might want to use that cable for data.
