UPDATE: No, it won't. This was click-bait article posted by some website that has no clue what they are talking about. No V30 variants will receive LG stock Android 10.
_______________
US998 V30/V30+/V30S will receive LG Android 10!
Found something funny, as this site lists 2018 V30S as getting Android 10, but not the 2017 V30 & V30+.
LG Android 10 update (UX 9.1): Device list, Release Date, and More
LG V30/V30+/V30S ThinQ Android 10 update
* Only the V30S is eligible for Android 10
* The update could arrive in Q2 or Q3 2020
* LG V30 and V30+ are not eligible

However, ALL V30 variants are "Joan" phones. For US998 V30S, there's no difference in firmware with the US998 V30 and US998 V30+. A KDZ for V30S US998 is also SAME KDZ for US998 V30/V30+
All that announcement means if if your model doesn't ALSO have a V30S variant (only Korean carriers and US998 came with V30S), then you won't get LG stock Android 10. However, all US998 WILL get stock Android 10 -- either native US998 or those North American models Frankensteined to US998. This would include AS998, LS998, VS996, H931, H933, H932PR (Puerto Rico).
This would NOT include T-mobile H932, and all H930 variants (H930, H930D, H930DS, H930G). Those models are out of luck.
Might be eligible for it, but probably won't see it until 12 is out.
Android 10 has to be trebelized, right? It'd be awesome to have Verizon/(LG?) out of the update loop.

If it ain't an actual press release or officially verifiable LG statement I'm not gonna put any faith in whatsoever, but it'll be interesting to see what does eventually happen. So figure what, 18-24 months from now it'll start leaking out?

They claim 2nd OR 3rd Quarter 2020.
We know how "2nd quarter" 2019 promise went with Pie... Today is start of 4th quarter...
Assume a year from now.
Just my guess, but if this actually happen then it's because of the V30S being released with Oreo (instead of Nougat like the "normal" V30). Which means it has only received one OS update so far, and since LG gives their flagship phones 2 OS updates normally....
Anyway this is good news. More reason for me to not replace my H933 any time soon.

Well they tried to pretend the 2018 V30S was completely different phone, to compete with the new 2018 Galaxy S9/9+ at the time (which had newer Snapdragon 845 Samsung had exclusively for a while). It wasn't' a new phone. It was merely a "Joan" V30+ with more RAM. (It did have the then-new ThinQ software, but all V30 variants eventually got that on Oreo.)
Whereas the later 2018 V35 ("JudyP") was indeed a new phone with Snapdragon 845 -- but both releases left a sour taste in people's mouths.
V30S (Snapdragon 835 "Joan" series, same as V30/V30+) was pretending to be new phone, while V35 (Snapdragon 845 "JudyP") looked so much like V30S people were afraid of being fooled again -- and V35 didn't have enough internal memory. Except for a Brazil variant the V35 was only 64GB internal memory. Joan V30S had more than that!
But if LG still wants to pretend V30S is a different phone from the V30/V30+ for the purposes of updates, fine.
It would be nice if this would actually be the case... we will see, LGs official annoucements are usually always a bit... late xD
Even if its "just" for the US/korean variants... there are ways.

Indeed. And seeing as how:
There were never carrier-specific versions of the V35 in the US
The only differences between the carrier-sepcific KDZs and unlocked US KDZ are the radio and preinstalled bloatware
It should be a breeze to get Andoid 10 on all V30 variants.

True. Re-reading the original article I see they don't cite official sources. They SEEM to be only basing their prediction on the fact the LG V30S (which is just a Joan variant with 6GB RAM) was "released" in 2018, along with G7, V35, and V40. My apologies for not noticing that when I posted.
The V30S is still just a V30, which is why the V30S does NOT have Treble. The V30 launched with Nougat and Treble is not required. The V30S is just a 2017 V30 which was updated to Oreo FIRST, then all the other V30/V30+ were updated to Oreo.
LG can still give all the V30 variants Android 10, but they aren't going to give ONE V30 variant Android 10 and not the others.
It is hard to know if I should laugh or cry. The V30S is being brought up to rationalize Android 10 for the V30 series. It would be awesome if it happens, but I fear the phone will be worn out by then if it ever happens.
As a V30S owner, I am still waiting for an open carrier US998 Pie rom. The last one was Oreo 20H dated from February. It is pretty good, but there have been improvements that would be nice to have. The US Cellular US998 30B Pie rom is NOT a substitute. It lacks VoLTE and VoWIFI support, ouch.

Sprint LS998 also doesn't have Pie yet...
Maybe Open Market US998 Pie will come after that is released.
I really hope that LG will do the same like Samsung will be doing with the S8.

First Samsung Samsung has to actually do that. They probably won't.
I can't find any Samsung statement saying they are going to upgrade the S8 to Android 10. Some people are just making that up, based on alleged conversation with famously ignorant Samsung customer service rep.
Samsung Customer Service Reps don't even know the difference between carrier unlocked and bootloader unlocked. Back 3 years ago someone posted on XDA screenshots of conversation with Samsung Customer Service Rep saying the U.S. Galaxy 7/7+ would be bootloader unlocked. I pointed out carrier unlocked maybe -- but never bootloader unlocked. U.S. carriers won't allow that. The guy said, "No look I specifically asked about 'bootloader unlock' and I have screenshots to prove it." So, what? That's like asking a child the answer to a complex algebra equation. Of course the U.S. Galaxy S7/S7+ was not bootloader unlocked.
In all likelihood Sprint is now a dead brand. The FCC approved the merger with / take over by t-mobile. It will be interesting to see how legacy sprint phones are handled. It may be affecting support already, granted that is speculation.

Yes, Sprint is dying/will die. The need to T-mobile merger to bail them out. But with 15 states or whatever suing them, will still be another year before it comes to pass. These states have their hands out, want money.
If merger does not happen Sprint will file bankruptcy and in a year (same amount of time as merger) they will shed their debts but will be even smaller and less relevant. At this point in time, they are certainly NOT focused on releasing updates for a 2-year old phone. That makes them NO money. Selling new phones makes them money. If Sprint V30 is is not updated to Pie, this Christmas Sprint V30 owners may buy a new Sprint phone instead. So, the incentive is to NOT give update!
Sprint may soon be a dead brand ... one way or another

Wow.
But ignore the misinformation in the article about it not being unlocked. The writer says you need the LG V30+ to be "unlocked". Yet, their screenshot even shows the wording that the B&H Photo LG V30 is carrier unlocked. And LG bootloader unlock is coming soon, for both the V30 and V30+. But then a lot of these tech writers are totally ignorant.
Hopefully b and h photo will also offer that 150 off on the v30+ once they realize they sold like 3 of them

I bought one of their V30+. It was my 2nd LG device purchase, to get the $400 rebate card. So, my average price was $665 for the two phones.
But now that the time limit has almost passed to fulfill that promotion (45 days from December 2), yeah a discount would be nice.

YES, it did. My comments made them correct it. Here's the direct quote from the original article:
"you'll need to buy the not-discounted $929.99 V30+ to get unlocked".
They've since edited the article, so you now see what the writer Richard Gao says he meant to say -- not what he actually wrote originally. I pointed out their error in the comments at the bottom of the article, with that direct quote.
In fact below my comments, the writer Richard Gao says he's now changed it --- due to my comments:
That was poor wording on my part. I meant to say that you'd have to buy the V30+ to get an unlocked model in black

yeah I pulled the trigger and bought the V30 from B&H, should be here tomorrow, my essential phone is going back to Best buy tomorrow.
You will like this phone. Good move. I'm waiting for the v30 plus to ha e a realistic price
I've been waiting on this phone to go down in price. I killed my Moto x pure trying to change the battery. Twelve hours before it was discounted I bought a V30 off eBay and paid more than I should've. I wasn't even thinking about the warranty. Just my luck.
The V30+ just dropped down to $775 on B&H.

That is frustrating. It shouldn't take that long.
Yes, I know LG waited six weeks for the US997 G6 (mid May, to very end of June), but that was ridiculous. Still, after that was dev support.
By the way, January 15 will be six weeks mark for our open market US998 V30. Let's hope the V30+ release at end of December didn't reset the timer?
Yet, Europe H930 was only three weeks after release.
LG doesn't seem to understand their phones would be more popular if they preemptively put them on their Bootloader Unlock list. So you would know for sure when the phone have out, you could immediately root it.

I'm beginning to feel the same way. Looking like oneplus will own the dev community from here on out. Even at the discounted price, it's hard to say that the v30 is $200+ more of a phone than the 5t is especially if you are into roms and such. If you want the latest hardware with unlockable bootloaders out of the gate, I'm not sure where else to look. For me personally, Id like external sd, a solid camera, AOSP roms and ip67/68. Difficult to find nowadays. Anyone?

ROMs can't add QHD, Qi wireless charging, and IP68 rating. Until OnePlus releases a true premium phone, I can't stand them. Even the Nexus phones were the first or some of the first to have 1080p and then 1440p QHD as well as Qi wireless charging. The people who say the Nexus phones didn't have the best specs aren't talking about hardware specs or features. Yeah, Google skimped on battery and their cameras weren't FANTASTIC, but the hardware specs and features were always cutting edge. So, NO OnePlus is not a "Nexus" replacement. To me, they are hype masters and pretenders.
The only other option is the Exynos Samsung variants which have OEM bootloader unlock out of the gate OR the Hong Kong Snapdragon Samsung variants which have OEM bootloader unlock. Hong Kong and mainland China Galaxy Snapdragon 835 S8/S8+ have had TWRP and root since last July, because they have simple OEM bootloader unlock. And they have all the U.S. carrier bands. Great to import via eBay. But I'm not a huge Samsung fan.
Now whether there are any custom ROMs for the Snapdragon 835 bootloader unlocked Hong Kong/mainland China variants, I do not know. I do know there are lots for the Exynos bootloader unlocked variants.
As soon as LG gets off their butt and puts the US998 on the bootloader unlock list you will see dev interest, just like the LG G6 starting in last July.

I hope you are right and I'll be on board. I'm never going to buy a device until I see the proof in the pudding, though. Even if you look at the most popular device threads on xda, I think my statement above about oneplus has merit. We don't have to agree with what the masses want, but ultimately popularity will dictate the direction things will go for the development community.

I normally wait until I can root from the first day I own the phone, but this time I had to go ahead and buy... but knowing LG would/should soon place the open market LG US998 on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list.
My rants against OnePlus are the same as against last year's Essential. They both pretend to be premium phones, but really are not. They're just missing too much stuff. There's also a whole cadre of Chinese 1080p slabs that fit that category too.
The only real competition LG V30 has is the Samsung Note 8. Maybe the Pixel 2 XL if you lower your standards a little. Yes, for dev work, the Pixel 2 XL has an advantage... But just no Qi wireless charging (one of my requirements) nor headset jack.
(I bet Google adds Qi wireless charging back for the 2018 Pixels, now that Apple has added it.)

It's the 'would/should' thing I'm worried about. Plus I'm willing to wait for the prices to fall even farther (unless we get unlocked bootloaders soon) as we get into Snapdragon 845 device territory. After all SD 835 is soooooo last year . I get the suspicion that the v30 isn't selling well at all as evidenced by the b+h sales as well as carrier BOGO offers. We usually only see BOGO on devices that sell crazy volume or inventory they are trying to clear. The v30 is likely the latter.
Either way, I spend way too much time refreshing these xda v30 threads and wait impatiently for good news sooner than later.
This of course is completely anecdotal but after I talked up the V30 at work, three iPhone users switched over to the V30 (they purchased from their respective carriers) and they all love it. It could be true it isn't selling that well but LG isn't and hasn't ever really been a market leader, they always seem to discount phones quickly, have promos, etc. In any case, I'm confident in ChazzMatt's prediction of the phone being on the bootloader unlock list pretty soon and I don't think there is a better phone out there for my needs. It's not perfect but it's enough for me.
I am an idiot... I just pulled the trigger on the v30+.
In my dream it will be rooted with Resurrection remix installed. Don't know why I did this cause the chance of that are so slim...
This phone is amazing though!
I made this with the intention to keep one update thread for our beloved v30's.
Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and unlocked Variants have already received Oreo.
T-Mobile has halted the Oreo update as mentioned on the last reply to this post. The update has been posted on the lg-firmware site and some users have posted links. The links should be posted once I find them.
If any issue arises please feel free to drop a reply and also take note of differences going forward.
Also if your specific variant has not received any updates yet I'll drop a link to redirect you to the crossflashing thread below.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/using-lgup-crossflashing-t3780969
Please be aware of the possibility of bricking your phone if you flash the incorrect firmware. I take no responsibility on damage done. Crossflashing is on your own risk so do not point fingers if you destroy your phone. We are here for support so ask questions before attempting for reassurance.

Has LG always sucked @$! when it comes to after sales support? Its bad enough discovering the lockdown on the Canadian version for modding after buying. But seriously, the worst of 16 cell companies for OS update?
This March 2018 article indicates LG is the one of 2 companies out of 16 that had not pushed an Oreo update out to its flagships. And the other company had released it as an open beta if you want to go with it. I suppose you could argue that the article doesn't account for some versions getting it a few weeks ago, but that doean't really change the overall conclusion. And it looks like Canadians are 3 weeks away. Come on LG.

I always thought the carriers controlled when the updates rolled out.

Carriers do for carrier-branded models -- but the OEM (LG in this case) has to give them the update first. Verizon was always the worst, they would roll out their updates long after AT&T, T-mobile, etc. Because they didn't care -- they wanted to you to buy a new phone, not get updated to new OS on your current phone.
One example: With the Motorola Quarks (Droid Turbo, Moto Turbo, Moto Maxx), Verizon was always the last. Most of the Quarks got Marshmallow in July 2016, but Verizon Droid Turbo got it December 2016. Yes, same exact version of Marshmallow, 6.0.1. Motorola gave all the carriers the update, and even released it directly to the "Motorola factory" models (what LG calls "open market" models) -- but Verizon sat on it for 5-6 months.
And then when Verizon DID finally roll out Marshmallow, it bricked Droid Turbo phones that were encrypted, because Verizon didn't even bother to really test the update. They just put the update in a drawer for several months, while they tried to persuade users to buy NEW phones. So, then Verizon had to issue an update to the update so it wouldn't brick encrypted phones. It's not like they didn't have enough time to TEST the Marshmallow update, right? WHAT were they doing from July to December? And Motorola gave them the update BEFORE July. July was when it started rolling out from other carriers and Motorola around the world.
So, very surprising that Verizon is the first of the North America carriers to roll out the LG V30 Oreo update.
Whereas for the open market versions, LG fully controls when the the update is released -- not any carrier. LG could release it same time they gave the South Korean models. If Verizon V30 has Oreo, why doesn't the open market US998? LG controls that.
It is part of the reason why LG struggles to compete with other mobile devices in the market. Product support is little more than an afterthought. For all it’s faults, if Apple needs to put out a software to support its phones, they don’t just sit around to think about it. They do it... and then they’ll tell everyone and their granny that they did it so they can market that support as a critical service.
Software is critical in any piece of electronics.
Yeah, it's bizarre and frustrating that Verizon, of all carriers, has released the update, and us open market folks are sitting out in the cold, without even an expected time of arrival.
And I just read that a Korean V30+ has gotten a hefty (800 or so MB) ThinQ update, too.
/shrug
Met someone from LG today. Apparently the H 930 DS (India model at least) won't be getting oreo until the second half of the year. The G6 may get it around the same time.
The person said that right now the plans are to get the V30S on sale (by May-June) and then roll out the update as people might not buy the V30S if the V30 has the same feature set at a lower price.
Same person said that in recent years, LG has pruned their software developers and they don't have the wherewithal to do a full fledged rollout of new Android roms unlike Samsung or Sony.
Take this with a massive grain of salt but you've been warned in case any of this is true
Would make sense with the AI software which is LG's product, but not Oreo which is a Google/Droid operating system. LG would be cutting their own throat if they did this as customers would be cutting bait and leaving for Samsung in droves, and the V30S wouldn't stop that. Besides, all they have to do is to sell the V30S going forward, which is their original plan. They don't have to alienate the customers that purchased their product since October until now.
Woke up this morning to find a pending update on my VS996. After the installation, I noticed the V30 ThinQ splash screen. I now have software version VS99620b with the AI camera. Gotta love the fast updates on this phone. Btw - I'm located in North Carolina.

Uh, it's not fast updates. Verizon is just catching up with LG's "complete" Oreo for V30. For some reason Verizon first gave their customers Oreo with ThinQ stripped out, then changed their minds.
Everyone else who already has Oreo got the ThinQ IN the Oreo update. Verizon for some strange reason did it in two parts. Oreo, then Thin Q -- instead of all-in-one. AT&T, Sprint, Europe, Canada, regional carriers (AS998) all have had Oreo WITH ThinQ as ONE update.
Seems Verizon was going to shaft their customers, then decided to add the ThinQ thing after all.

So, she can be sad now?
Anyone happen to save this update file before they ran it?
I have the US998 V30+ which I cross flashed to VS99620a via KDZ. However the phone will not update OTA. It does not connect to Verizon Software assistant.
I should be able to update with LGUP, but I need the file.
Thanks.

I am on AT&T -- but I've never owned an AT&T phone.
That site is useful for some, but not others. For instance it still doesn't have the AT&T Oreo (I don't need it, as I have US998), and I don't think it has the Sprint Oreo either. Because no one snagged them and uploaded them to the site. It's a user-supplied repository for LG firmware and is not associated with LG corporation in any way. Basically it's for people like us.
Not sure which I prefer first anymore but anyone care to guess which will happen first?

They will never release bootloader unlock code for any US carrier based model.. You can bet on that.

I'm no fan of LG and I can appreciate your dissatisfaction based on your experiences trying to unlock your G7 (Sprint) however LG released bootloader unlock codes for the G6 USA carrier free model somewhere around this time last year. It's anyone's guess what they will do going forward.

That's great for those who have it.. But I still believe for any phone, Samsung, LG, Google, if it is for a carrier then bootloader unlock his highly doubtful. I wish they never bowed to the carriers in the first place.. They should have said NO period.. But it is what it is...

Agree totally.
Even though I use Mint Mobile (US-based prepaid plan that uses the T-Mobile network), I picked up a 2nd-hand G710ULM (vs G710TM) in hopes that LG would offer an unlocked bootloader code at some point (I like to use my phones for 4+ years and after ~2 all phones seem to get sluggish given dev targets if you stay on stock).
That being said I hope and am betting on Pie getting pushed out first (hopefully before Q official release) because I think it'd benefit the most amount of users (Pie really does have some unique and useful features, even though I've seen others say that they are purely gimmicks).
I went from flip-phone, to HTC Incredible (great phone with a great hacking community), to hand-me-down Samsung G3 (same, although Knox sux), and finally a 2nd-hand LG G7 (unaware of LG's history and actually believing their "Quick Update Program" or whatever they called it). Just because I'm able, doesn't mean I'm willing to pay ~$1,000 USD just to buy an unlocked Pixel device. Maybe some more feature-rich Android One entries will join the bunch. I can see how/why people get into the Apple ecosystem x.x

Yeah, the reviews make it look like my ideal phone; I hope Google keeps making a midtier phone like the 3a as they release new lines. 3a/3a XL even reintroduced a standard headphone jack
I currently have a G7 ULM which was the unlocked version for the US. I bout it from Google Fi, but this phone since it is not carrier specific will never be updated by LG. Still on Android 9.
Other versions of the G7 have received OTA updates.
So I wonder which version of the LG G8 I should buy in order to not get stuck (apparently they will update up to Android 11 for this model)
But I need a GSM unlocked G8 that I can update OTA using any carrier other than the one it is tied to.
Which one would you recommend for this and also for less bloatware etc?
I really like having the fingerprint sensor on the back and it seems that the LG G8 is the last iteration of phones from LG with this feature and it is an upgrade from the G7. (which is great in my opinion)
It is cheap here in the US too.
Suggestions appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
Just came across your post. I have an unlocked LG G8 that I purchased from Best Buy running on Verizon. I have had some OTA updates but, as you know, LG is slow with them. I am on Android 10 with the 4/1/21 security patch. They say that it's supposed to get Android 11; keeping my fingers crossed. I hope this helps a little.

thanks man! You are the only one who likes pink floyd apparently lol..
I have Tmobile and would need a version that works with tmobile.. not sure which one to get. The unlocked versions are harder to get updates because according to a rep from LG they need to test with many carriers before they release the OTA update. May or may not be true.
But thanks for your input !

Yep, I do like Pink Floyd. Amazon does have some lg g8’s both unlocked and locked to t-mobile. Most of them seem to be “renewed”, as they put it. T-mobile locked would be best as long as t-mobile keeps up on their updates. Hopefully lg will keep their promise to bring out Android 11 for these phones.
I hope that you’re able to find a good deal.
