Hi folks,
I've been offline for a while from the forums - does anyone know if there is a ROM which basically doesn't have anything on it with telemetry or background network traffic for Google services or anything else, obviously other than the phone calls or texts.
Anyone have good information as to what type of network traffic occurs on the retail ROM from Google?
If you're wondering, I'm asking because I have an interest in tethering via USB and I'd like to ensure the device or its apps/services are not using any bandwidth in the background while on the tether.
I would check out gappless cosp, carbon or maybe /e/OS

Hi guys
First thing my desire is unbranded and unrooted.
Ever since applying the last OTA my portable hotspot has stopped working.... I connect to a data network no problem, but when I turn on portable hotspot, I loose the data connection. I can see it trying to get the connection back but it loops for around a minute and then gives up with no errors.
My wifi has been fine since the upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas how to fix it???
Many thanks
David
I'm not sure this is the answer to your problem, but hey maybe it is the answer so someone else's problem
A Wifi device is either a client or a server - not both at the same time.
If you tell the phone to be a Wifi server, and it was connected to a Wifi network then that connection ceases to exist.
Next it will broadcast its own Wifi network for other devices to use. Those devices (and your phone) can then browse the web, send mail etc. using your 2G/3G connection, and they can talk to one another using local ip addresses handed out by the phone.
I hope this cleared things up, if not for you then maybe for someone else
Yup - experiencing an issue whenever I select "Press to turn on".. doesn't seem to do much of anything (beyond the Processing dialogue).. and while I get the Icon in the Notification bar there is no hotspot available. Can't configure it either..
similar specs on the phone... unbranded / unrooted

guys i need some help regarding my galaxy note 2. after updating my rom to omega 10 suddenly my internet connection using 3g has always been cut even though the icon is present that im currently connected to my data network. my applications like facebook, google doesnt recognize that there is a data connection. does anyone among you have encountered this kind of error? or its just my network provider?
Hi all,
I'm trying to setup a network remote for a program we use (openlp), and I've come across an issue I'd love your help with.
I'm not sure if it's a generic android problem, or LOS specific, but I figured I'd start here.
Quite simply, if the local area network has no internet access, android will not send network traffic over it even if it's local traffic!
The only solution I have found is to disable mobile data, which will force the device to send the traffic over the lan.
Has anyone come across this and can suggest anything else I could try?

Hi,
Per above, want to share 7T's wifi connection - travel often, hotels often restrict number of devices, also, roaming offices usually provide 1 wifi access too. WOuld like to share using the inbuilt hotspot.
I know Pixels and Samsungs are capable out of the box.
What are my choices on the 7T? I can see a wifi extend feature in dev. settings, but that doesnt seem to work.
Has anyone got an easy way to manage wifi-direct?
thanks
7T
Got same issue and kinda disappointed because i came from s9+ and Xiaomi MI 9T Pro and no issue like this.
P.S. hope someone have solution about this wifi hotspot
If rooted, this app can be used to share wifi.

You'll want to use the "repeater" mode.
I am wondering if anyone has found a way to hide hotspot data traffic on OOS from a carrier. On custom roms my carrier doesnt know the difference between hotspot and normal data the hotspot usage never shows any in my account. I am supposed to get capped at 15gb of hotspot data and I am afraid if I go back to OOS they will see that usage and it will get capped again. Wouldnt be a huge issue but I live in an area where satellite or cellular internet are really the only options. Thanks
I would stay on the custom rom's that works. If you had Samsung Dex that give you another potential work around. The carrier may eventually get wise and modify their protocols.
It seems this battle of wits has been going on for years. Hotspot apps are released, work for a while then fail.
My solution was to use Android to do everything on the internet, my laptop stays safely isolated from the outside world. I even do any downloads I need with my N10+. My Android superceded my PC years ago. Even has more ram
This is an interesting problem and is in part dependent on the carrier. I understand Verizon is one of the worst to hack like this. My unlimited data plan is grandfathered but my hotspot data is limited to 15gb as well. I can burn that up in a day or two without even trying
It's ridiculous.

Yep, download VPN Hotspot and have all your traffic run through it. I haven't had an issue and never gotten throttled.

+1 for this
Android 10 and before was easy with adb/terminal or modules but since Android 11, I use Hotspot VPN.
You need root, enable it and turn on wlan0. If you add it to quick toggle tiles, you can just tap the tile twice and it'll start and turn wlan0 on for you.
It removes the speed limit throttle of 600kbps on tmo as well.
I use the playstore version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot
Edit2: you may NEED to turn off "Tethering hardware acceleration" in developer settings
