WiFi Hotspot - share wifi connection (not 4G) - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Hi,
Per above, want to share 7T's wifi connection - travel often, hotels often restrict number of devices, also, roaming offices usually provide 1 wifi access too. WOuld like to share using the inbuilt hotspot.
I know Pixels and Samsungs are capable out of the box.
What are my choices on the 7T? I can see a wifi extend feature in dev. settings, but that doesnt seem to work.
Has anyone got an easy way to manage wifi-direct?
thanks

7T
Got same issue and kinda disappointed because i came from s9+ and Xiaomi MI 9T Pro and no issue like this.
P.S. hope someone have solution about this wifi hotspot

If rooted, this app can be used to share wifi.

You'll want to use the "repeater" mode.

WIFI calling?

Hello everyone!
I have a quick question about wifi calling, I used to have a samsung s7 and when i had wifi calling it would stay enabled even if there's no internet connection (ie- connecting to a hotspot and having to login before there's an active internet connection) But on my LG G7 android 9.0 T-mobile variant, with that same scenario my LG G7 would disable wifi calling completely and I have to manually turn it on every single time I connect.
I only can because this is pretty tedious, I live in a very low cellular reception place and I rely a lot on wifi calling. There's times where I'm hopping between wifi and i have to enable it every single time, like 3 to 5 times a day. I was wondering if there's any way I can prevent it from happening.
TL;DR: Wifi calling - can I keep it enabled even if there's no internet connection and it would just activate once there is an actual connection?

[Q] Wifi problem in my Redmi Note 5 pro.

I'm using Redmi Note 5 pro rooted device running on Evolution X v5.6 (Android 11) custom ROM. I'm facing issue with only a particular wifi i.e., when I connect my phone with one of my another phone (redmi note3 pro) using hotspot.
Problem: When i connect with Redmi Note 3 mobile's hotspot, apps dont connect to the network and only YouTube, Google Chrome and Facebook app works i.e., uses the wifi data. I have tried using different wifi and everything works fine, all the apps detect data. I've also found only possible way for the other apps to work using my redmi note 3 mobile's hotspot is that I have to connect to a VPN. Unfortunately the VPN too takes a long time to connect to any server as i guess even VPN app isn't detecting that wifi data too, but once connected, all the apps get access to the internet and I can use them seamlessly.
I know its a strange issue I'm facing and sorry for my english but I would really like to know if there is any way to overcome this problem.
P.S i have connected other phones with my Redmi note 3 mobile's hotspot and I'm facing no issue like this so that means there is no problem with Note 3.
Go to wifi - click on your wifi - click on network usage - treat as unmetered . Maybe this helps.
Also do you use private dns or something. Maybe try toggling that tooo

Thanks for the reply, I did change the network usage to unmetered like your suggestion but unfortunately still the apps are not detecting the network.
Also under private dns settings it is set to automatic, I tried changing to off but no changes.

Question Automatic weak wifi switching on Vivo

Am I missing something or this basic feature that is around for years and been on every phone I had for past X years is not on Vivo X80 Pro? Phone is stuck on weak wifi, not switching to data nor other known wifi networks around. I have to manually disable wifi to force it to reconnect to stronger AP or data network. Its really annoying :-/
Settings/WiFi/Network Assistant/auto switch to data network
There is nothing like that on my X80 Pro (Snapdragon version), not in WiFi section, tried even searching for Network Assistant in setting, no results. Could you post screenshot? Got FW 12.0.12.7

Question 5Ghz Hotspot Problems

Hey,
Wondering if anyone else is having problems with 5ghz Hotspot wifi tethering? I can activate the setting but I can't always connect to it with my other devices. Most of the time it works the first time I activate 5Ghz hotspot, however if I toggle it off and then back on again, it won't work anymore until I restart the phone. The UI will show me that the hotspot is active but my other devices won't be able to find it.
I've tried it on multiple roms including a fresh install of the latest default MiUI rom, all with the same problem. I saw posts on reddit claiming that it could be a UK region bug and to try change the region to France but this doesn't solve the issue either.
2.4Ghz hotspot works everytime, however is a bit slower than 5Ghz, so I'm keen to try and get this issue resolved.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah I understand that, however that doesn't explain why the hotspot works the first time, and never again until a device reboot.
My other devices support both 5Ghz and WPA3.

Question Hotspot Data Hiding Question

I am wondering if anyone has found a way to hide hotspot data traffic on OOS from a carrier. On custom roms my carrier doesnt know the difference between hotspot and normal data the hotspot usage never shows any in my account. I am supposed to get capped at 15gb of hotspot data and I am afraid if I go back to OOS they will see that usage and it will get capped again. Wouldnt be a huge issue but I live in an area where satellite or cellular internet are really the only options. Thanks
I would stay on the custom rom's that works. If you had Samsung Dex that give you another potential work around. The carrier may eventually get wise and modify their protocols.
It seems this battle of wits has been going on for years. Hotspot apps are released, work for a while then fail.
My solution was to use Android to do everything on the internet, my laptop stays safely isolated from the outside world. I even do any downloads I need with my N10+. My Android superceded my PC years ago. Even has more ram
This is an interesting problem and is in part dependent on the carrier. I understand Verizon is one of the worst to hack like this. My unlimited data plan is grandfathered but my hotspot data is limited to 15gb as well. I can burn that up in a day or two without even trying
It's ridiculous.

Yep, download VPN Hotspot and have all your traffic run through it. I haven't had an issue and never gotten throttled.

+1 for this
Android 10 and before was easy with adb/terminal or modules but since Android 11, I use Hotspot VPN.
You need root, enable it and turn on wlan0. If you add it to quick toggle tiles, you can just tap the tile twice and it'll start and turn wlan0 on for you.
It removes the speed limit throttle of 600kbps on tmo as well.
I use the playstore version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot
Edit2: you may NEED to turn off "Tethering hardware acceleration" in developer settings
