Hi,
While I have had my Evo for 5 or so months, I had a question about using voice dialing. On my old Windows Mobile phone, I could just launch voice command & say "Call Jill at Home".
When I hold the search button on the phone & say the same thing, it either searches google, or it gives me an option to dial someone not in my phone list (some random store for example).
Is there a proper way to make this work? I figure if MS could do it, it shouldnt be a problem on Android.
Thanks,
Rich

Are your contact saved as google account? If not then you will need to them re-saved as google accounts. Also try this: when you press the search button, press and hold it down. Mine gives me two options: voice search and handcent quick compose.
Im using MS exchange & the defaults contacts application. Are you saying the only way to make this work properly is to import my contacts into my Gmail account (which I only use for the market access not email)?
THanks,
Rich
Hi,
I have an evo with DeckRom on it (gingerbread). I'm trying to get skype to be my default dialer, or even better to have it prompt me for what I'd like to use as a dialer (phone or skype).
I can't for the life of me figure this out. Phone doesn't show up under settings-applications-manage-all. I've cleared defaults from gocontacts.
I've tried uninstalling skype, then rebooting the phone and redownloading the app.
Still nothing.
Other thing I might like is the ability to choose google voice to make outgoing calls if that is available.
Thanks in advance.
Bump for this. I'm having the exact same issue on my thunderbolt running stock/rooted debloat. Any help would be great as I'm retiring the thunderbolt and basically turning it intoca glorified pda/voip phone.
Google voice can be set as a default dialer/SMS/voicemail app but Skype I don't believe will set as a default however on decks gb rom in settings under calls you can set up a SIP account for voip calling with no added apps it will use the default dialer to call over ip
When I first installed skype, android gave me the option to choose how to complete the call. I no longer receive that option.

My goal is to either:
1. have the option of using skype, google voice or T mobile when initiating a call from my contacts list
or
2. be able to access and successfully choose a contact from my list when I'm on skype
At some point (I don't know why) my phone stopped giving the choice of using Skype, google voice or TMobile for an outgoing call. I would love to get that back since Skype doesn't allow me to use my phone contact list to make calls. Any ideas on how to achieve my goal?
Please tell me how to have a notification on my email when someone responds to my question.
Thanks

You're in the evo4g forum no one here has tmo as the evo is a cdma phone not gsm
Same problem here since upgrading to latest Android. Did you find a solution yet?
bzzz
Did you manage to find the solution to this?
There are a few threads where a few people have tried and failed (so far) to enable voice dialing on the Nexus 7 LTE. Even when the dialer is installed, it fails to dial with "Voice Calling Not Supported" error.
I would like to ask do we know where the issue is? Is there a "telephony" API that returns errors? Are the hardware drivers present? Is it a matter of configuration maybe?
I have installed the google android SDK and was thinking of jumping in to try and find the API that does "make a phonecall" and see where it gets me, but I hope to get some replies here first
Thanks
All right, before this app is working, but now it's not. I'm using lumia 920. I notice in one of the settings, under privacy > contacts, there is an app listed "block & filter (global)." So where is this feature located?
Also, is there other way to make call + sms work? Are there any other way of blocking?
After the update to the messaging app yesterday, I noticed the 'Blocked Messages' option in the ... menu. Click on that will open the 'Block and Filter' app which lets you block messages, calls, and specific numbers. You can also change the settings to notify you of blocked messages or to auto block people without Caller ID.
You can also access this from the phone app, select the ... menu and then click on 'Blocked calls'
I went back to windows phone 8.1 then went to the excruciate process of updating it back to 10512. It worked, sms+blocking works perfectly! Until i encountered an issue! I Can't create folders! Some apks also don't work unlike before. So i have to reset my phone, but after resetting it, the piece of s**t app does not work again! What is wrong with it?! Can someone help me? Can we play with the registry to fix this?
I know I am late in the game with this phone. I have a galaxy note 10 plus unlocked from Samsung. I am using it on T Mobile. I recently found that I don't have a video calling feature, and it looks like it wants to use my google duo, not the built-in call video option which I see I don't have. I called both T Mobile and Samsung, neither of which takes responsibility and doesn't even know who is at fault with this. I was trying to read through the threads can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
When you select a contact to call do you see the video call icon bit it's grayed out? Or do you not even have the icon on your dialer/contact?
If its there but grayed, that is because it will only do native video calls to people on the same network (tmobile).
If there is no icon at all, I don't know why.
Sorry can't think of anything else

Hey, thanks for the reply. I don't have any option in the settings. Since I have google duo already installed on my phone, it would use that instead of giving me the option to use the native in-call video application which again not sure why it's not there. I am so frustrated. Would a factory reset help, I really don't want to do it since it came from Samsung I believe already done.
There is no setting for video calling in the settings btw....The option to use it appears on your phone dialer when you have a contact selected or punched in(stock dialer app), on the right side of the screen like the pic attached.
Is that where you are checking?
Also i for instance use tmobile, as you see in the pic the video option is grayed out, so unless a contact is also on tmobile as their service it won't be clickable (lit up green)
