Note 10+ Custom Boot Animation - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Is it possible to flash or install custom boot animations on this device?
I've an old cia boot animation that I had on my note 2 or 4 that I'd like to put on this phone. Also, I realize that it will most likely need to be modified to fit this screen. That is if it's even possible to customize the animation on this device. Also, the phone in question is the snapdragon variant.
Thanks!

As this is a system file, root will need to be granted... Not sure if that is available for the SD variant yet but I believe it may be for the Exynos...
Just remember, you will break Knox and , I believe this happened with the older models, you might only be able to charge to 80% battery...
Not sure if that is worth a different boot screen...

? Yeah I think I'd rather have a battery that charges to 100% rather than have a custom animation and 80% battery. It's still pretty early though so I'll sit back and watch the show.
Thanksâ˜ș

If you do so, you will trip Knox and void your warranty.

I am using a custom boot-animation on my Exynos Note 10+...
If you wish to know if it is possible for Snapdragon,
look for path /system/media/
you should see the word "bootsamsung" of type ".qmg" you mainly need the normal one with the loop and not the crypt, if that didn't work, then your device is using crypt, also shutdown.qmg, if not then shutdown_WH.qmg...
If you locate that, you can have your custom boot-animation, just make sure you backup the animation before replacing it and make sure permissions remain re-r--r-- (644) or you will have a boot loop...
good luck...

That I have done already, altered the up_parm of exynos for the bl warning and logo, I opened a thread... As for the boot animation, no prerequisites needed, just replaced the qmg with another maintaining the same permissions and it is done, custom animation applied for shutdown and booting... What I'm not sure about is snapdragon, what's on their side and whether a change is similar to exynos makes a difference on snappy or not, as for up_parm are all static images (exynos, didn't check snappy), no animations... However, I won't say I'm an expert, I just learned about the up_parm recently... ?

I'm looking for a wallpaper made of the Note 10+ boot animation. As long as I've had Galaxy Notes from it's inception I've had their logos as my wallpaper. Android Pie' code won't allow Adobe Photoshop Touch to function therefore eliminating my ability to edit wallpaper for my Note10+
Can you grab me a JPG from the boot animation of the.qmg files of the Note10+ if you have a rooted device please. I'd sincerely appreciate it!

I have a Note 10 Snapdragon version.
I replaced my .qmg boot/shutdown animations with ones I made (.qmg). They work great!
I used the Samsung Theme Designer to make the .qmgs

As far as I know QMG format is unreadable by any application, it's a one way direction process to create the bootanimation...
Exactly what do you mean by grab jpg of the bootanimation...?

In the past I was able to actually open the. qmg file proceed to a file folder containing all the.jpg's of the boot animation in order as a cartoon animation would be. There is grab the .jpg of my choice to use as my background. Of course my phone was rooted, which now isn't, as always up to the Note10+.
Was hoping I could keep up my OEM looking background "tradition" riding since I've been a Note owner.
Thanks for your time!
Happy Holidays everyone...

Could someone please help me remove the carrier boot animation. I tried deleting the qmg's in the system/media folder but to no luck. Even if i place my custom qmg's, both will play, first the carrier one than the custom one. I'm using the Exynos version.

[Q] Boot Animation. update.zip

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to make an update.zip file to change vodafones boot animation?
I would like to have the stock animation or a custum animation.
don't think this has been done yet as the images used on Samsung bootup are something like QMG images but there isn't a converter readily available yet
Wait, what? It's impossible even if we want to remove/change the boot? How come there are some threads explaining to change the boot sequence? And, I have a bunch of PNG Vodafone images on my phone.
PS: Why isn't there any response in all of the threads regarding changing/removing the boot sequence ? Newbie here.
Hi Pegart, i have no knowledge of custom boot animations but here is what i know.
Samsung Galaxy i9000 is very different from other android phones in the way the system is. The boot animation pngs you see are the shutdown ones and you could change it. With SGS tools (available free in market) you can change boot sounds. The startup is in qmg in which there is no way to change yet. over in the vibrant forums they are working on it and i think they have done it and you should ask in the vibrant forums how they done it which might help you
Hope this information helped you
Great, thanks for the answer. Much appreciated. Will check the Vibrant subforum.

Boot animations?

I'm trying to change the animation on my AT&T branded Play. All I can get is the stock Android blue/green letters for a boot screen, which is the default android system boot screen. While this is a step in a much better direction than the crappy AT&T screen, I want a PSX or PSP boot animation on there. I've tried using a root file explorer to move it to system/media where it seems the original is found. Renaming the original so it won't use it and renaming my desired screen to bootanimation.zip. This yields only the stock Android animation though.
Does it need a special boot animation file to work? I can't believe I couldn't find anything on this through a search, either I didn't look hard enough or it doesn't exist I guess.
Any help is appreciated.
I used to flash them on my EVO but now I use Absolute System Root Tools to set the boot animation, because I used Zergrush and have a locked bootloader. I assume you have root access since you are using Root Explorer... I'm not sure how to set one with the method you're trying, but Absolute worked just fine for setting the Nexus S animation... get it... NeXus.. Xperia... lol. Good luck!
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
I don't know if AT&T has fiddled with your phone so it sets the boot animation with another method somehow. It should be as simple as you have done. Just replacing "bootanimation.zip" in /system/media/ with the one you download, assuming it is created correctly. I have changed mine this way to a Super Mario bootanimation and it works fine.
Also try Absolute System Root Tools as previous poster said. You can't set your own bootanimation with it though as far as I know. Just a big list to chose from.
nice one thanks , works on rooted play

Make sure when you .zip up your bootanimation. You do it with no compression. Otherwise it won't work.

Need some help with my boot animation.

I'm uploading my boot animation in hopes to have some people test it on their phones for me. I want to give back to XDA because I've been helped in here several times. I rendered this animation from C4D and I Have it working on my phone, but it seems to lag on my phone at the start then the fan gets up to speed in a couple secs. I have the GTI9100 S2 at the moment.
My cheap fix so far is that I added a still image from one of the frames and put it in the part0 folder, this way the the fan lag is covered buy a single frame so it can catch up as the animation gets going. I need to work this out and was wondering if someone could load it one their device and let me know how it responds. I'm not really sure if it's my phone or the animation is just too much in size or graphics.
I made this animation at 800 x 480 to fit the S2, so if your screen is real small it will not fit just right, but can make other sizes later on..:good:
P.S......be sure to unzip the uploaded file and just use the bootanimation zip that's in it. I included all the files in the zip.

Don't have a video but I do know the steps.
1) First get your animation file or files, for tab S it's qmg. Try to get one with the same resolution as your tablet, it would look better.
2) go into system/media and paste your animation files or file.
3) reboot and watch the magic
Not much more to it. If nothing pops out at reboot then it wasn't placed property. Just back up the original qmg files before u do this. Not sure if you can get boot loop because of this but sure hope not
Same presses for most Galaxy phones not sure about 5, I don't own it.
Gosh yeah I saw those qmg files. One was like a boot up and one was like a shutdown file. I don't know of I'm gonna risk it. I heard if it doesn't work you will either get the same boot up or just get a black one.
this will help you out

[GUIDE] [MOD] [ROOT] Enable DARK Boot Animation while on Dark mode

Hello.
After testing some custom ROMs I've noticed a feature that I thought it was quite cool... the boot animation changed to dark when the dark mode was enabled while running the system.
Decided to investigate this feature and realized that this could have been already implemented on our devices (at least on Android 10 ROMs) if the "media" folder was present on /product instead of /system. Unfortunately it wasn't so I had to come up with a method to get this running on stock ROMs.
The method I've came up with is not "elegant" at all but, hey, it gets the job done, and also, it will work with any light/dark boot animation already released (Pixel, Evo, Havoc, etc...).
How to:
Download both files, present on this thread attachments, and store them on your device (for instance, on Download folder)
Install any root explorer (I'm using FX File Explorer...but you may use any explorer with root permissions)
Install MacroDroid App
Extract the content of Auto_Dark_Based_On_Daylight.zip file in order to obtain Auto_Dark_Based_On_Daylight.macro
Create a backup of your current bootanimation.zip file (just rename it to bootanimation_BKP.zip or something like that, the original file is on /system/media/)
Install Typhus_Themed_Boot_Animation.zip Magisk module and reboot your phone.
Import the Auto_Dark_Based_On_Daylight.macro to Macrodroid (see the Image Tutorial if you don't know how to do this)
Test the Sunset trigger
Reboot your device
Enjoy your dark boot animation while running your system on dark mode and vice versa
NOTES:
1 - As stated, this method will work with any boot animation out there. You just need to replace the zip files inside the "bootanim" folder you will find inside the zip file
2 - Yes, this WILL break OTA since we're mounting system as R/W to do this. I don't mind...I know how to install an OTA when it arrives, so I'm fine with this. Please don't ask here how to install OTA when it arrives...there are a lot of posts and threads here on XDA where people (myself included) already debated that subject.
3 - Didn't understand the method? Need more help? CHECK THIS Image Tutorial!!
Cheers and enjoy!

No, this will work with any ROM, any device and for any Android version if running AOSP based ROMs.
BUT it's possible that if, your using a custom Android 10 ROM, this isn't needed since it may be already implemented by the developer.
Check if you have a /product/media folder. If you do, then all you have to do is to put the bootanimation-dark.zip file on that folder and it will work without the need to do all the other things.
Cheers!

Yes, indeed it is. Don't really know where the splash images are stored on Mi A3. They're not on splash.img. If I knew where they were I would change it, obviously.
Really, this is something that I've been wondering about since day one....where the hell are the freakin' splash images stored!!?? Something so simple for almost ALL other devices out there turns to be a riddle on Mi A3....

Most probably the splash image is embedded in the bootloader or kernel
I've made a Magisk Module with the dark one, it's utterly simple, but this way you can do it systemlessly.

First of all, thank you for your contribution.
I know I could have made a Magisk module to do this. But, that way, the boot animation wouldn't change dynamically, it would be always dark and that wasn't my objective.
Of course, if your goal is to always have it dark, then you can use the module to "replace" systemlessly the bootanimation.zip file.
On a side note, I've tried to include this feature on the Pixel Theme, which is a Magisk module, but, unfortunately, it's not possible to symlink files, or folders, from files, or folders, that only exist "systemlessly" marked as read only. That's why this method has to be done like I've explained on the OP.
I've even tried to include a /porduct/media folder with the zip files inside the module....but that didn't work as well. You see, /product is a read-only file system and, for this to work, it had to be mounted as read write at boot time, so that it could be read while booting, and that would have to be made at kernel ramdisk level. Don't think it's worth the trouble just to have a boot animation that changes dynamically.
Tried, as well, to include the files on any other folder that could be symlinked (like /vendor/overlay/media). They were symlinked all right...but Android doesn't read that folder at boot time....so yeah, I've gave up and came up with the method explained here.
Anyway, thanks for your interest and, regarding the splash image....my knowledge isn't enough to figure out bootloader and/or kernel stuff.
Maybe @paul89rulez could help us with this....
Cheers!

Sorry for the delay, just read the notification.
Glad you found where the images are stored, but be careful xbl its a bad partition to mess with.
You may want to read this article:
https://worthdoingbadly.com/qcomxbl/
Theoretically, with this tool and 7zip you can extrac the xbl, and if you know wich files you have to swap, repack it fastly. But messing with the bootloader its dangerous.
It's worth it?
