How to install custom boot animations? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked on YouTube on how to install custom animations and installed one myself but it didn't work when I did. Is it different for Samsung devices? Thanks!

Was it a zip animation? If so then it won't work.
I belive Samsung use qmg files for animations. It's the same presses but different type of files

Don't have a video but I do know the steps.
1) First get your animation file or files, for tab S it's qmg. Try to get one with the same resolution as your tablet, it would look better.
2) go into system/media and paste your animation files or file.
3) reboot and watch the magic
Not much more to it. If nothing pops out at reboot then it wasn't placed property. Just back up the original qmg files before u do this. Not sure if you can get boot loop because of this but sure hope not
Same presses for most Galaxy phones not sure about 5, I don't own it.

Gosh yeah I saw those qmg files. One was like a boot up and one was like a shutdown file. I don't know of I'm gonna risk it. I heard if it doesn't work you will either get the same boot up or just get a black one.

this will help you out

Boot/shutdown animation & music from international galaxy s2 and shutdown

I managed to unzip an I9100 international rom to get the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg i installed them in /system/media they work, Just wanted to let everyone know who dislikes the tmo animations. I did not do the shut.qmg but i did delete shut.apk & the video folder in /system/media/video to have a true aosp feel
Hope you guys enjoy this as this is my first post ever just want to get involved
Would you be able to upload it? I would appreciate it, as I really want to replace the T-Mobile boot animation.
Sorry
Im dumb here you go
damn the animation is nice with the S, how to get rid of the t-mobile start up music ?
Will this work for juggernaut? If not can you make one?

My bad guys/gals here it is
After trying the ones posted, these are much better than the t-mobile ones. Why do carriers always feel the need to change something? Leave it the way the manufacture made it.
T-mobile is getting bad for bloat too.
Thanks, I really didn't like the boot animations on Juggernaut 2.0. This really did the trick (kept it silent, though).

I'm a bit of a newb so I just want to know if I did this correctly.
When I turn on my phone I get: Samsung logo, the Tmo screen with loading bar and then finally the SGS2's boot up animation.
Is this how it should be?

/system/media/video/shutdown/shutdown.qmg
/system/etc/PowerOn.wav
/system/media/audio/ui/poweroff.wav
the locations works, but i found it weird the original files were not there, so it made me wonder where are the actual files from Tmo customizations?
on the hand, i forgot the location for the bootanimation.zip
was it /system/media/bootanimation.zip ???
because that did not work, it still shows the Tmo customized boot animation

Allgamer, if I'm not wrong our phone doesn't work with boot.animation.zip. You have to unzip and manually copy and paste bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to system/media.

My Galaxy Ace uses

bootsamsung.qmg
I need the stock files to replace the O2 ones that are on my phone.
I also need the shutdown logos and a bit of help where to find those to replace them with the stock ones.
Bootanimation.zip never worked for me. I simply copy it from my SD card to system/media on the phone and reboot. My file manager recognizes that I have root access on my phone so i am prompted if I want to use RW access and accept.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Where can I also find the stock audio? Mine has been replaced by my carrier.
I know that this thread is old but, right now, I'm trying to change my Movistar startup animation. I've changed the shutdown.qmg and it's ok. The problem is that, after changing bootsamsung and bootsamsungloop, the device starts up well but the anim is like a corrupted video, with squares and lines with vivid colours.
Has another one got this? Are the originals files for a S5830i-2.3.6?

Yeah, you can do this. I use the Google Edition HTC One boot animation. Just Google it and you can find the file. Simply rename it bootanimation.zip and place it in /system/media. Make sure you replace the bootanimation.zip currently in there to something else such as bootanimation.bak. You might have to change permissions to rw-r-r as well.
my /system/media doesn't have an existing bootanimation.zip. Nevertheless I placed that file in that location, set permissions and the stock Verizon animation still showed. Now I'm stumped. Pulled the file from HERE, trying both a manual addition as well as flashing the flashable zip provided.

Are you running a Sense rom? If so, the boot animations are located in System-Customize-Resource. There are two that you need to replace, one for booting up, vzw_bootup.zip, and one for shutting down, hTC_downamination.zip.

Hmm... I did this and for some reason the boot animation wasn't replaced but the down animation works fine. Side note, does the boot sound in that folder play for anyone else?
HTC One s-off
On the stock HTC ROM, to change the boot animation, you have to change two files in 'system/customize/resource/' : "htc_bootup_one.zip" and "vzw_bootup.zip" (capitalization matters). They both have to be replaced with fully functional boot animations. When I changed mine, it wouldn't work if I just changed one or the other, I had to change both.
On the stock HTC ROM, to change your down animation, you have to replace "hTC_downanimation.zip" (capitalization matters) in '/system/customize/resource/' with a functioning down animation.
On custom ROMS, you have to look to find where it's at. Sometimes it's in 'system/media' named "bootanimation.zip", sometimes it's not. Remember, it has to be a functioning replacement, otherwise it will show the stock ANDROID boot animation.

Actually, you don't have to replace the htc_bootup_one.zip. You can rename it to .bak and replace or do the same to the vzw_bootup.zip and it will work. I actually removed my htc_bootup_one.zip and replaced the vzw one and everything works fine. Probably helps that the boot up animation I use was made for the One variants that don't have anything to do with Verizon

That's very odd. Now that I try it without the "htc_bootup_one.zip", it works, but it didn't when I originally replaced it. Very, very odd.
I grabbed a flashable boot animation (including audio) from the HTC One section and was finally able to get the animation to work after messing with the .xml file. Tried to throw the audio in with it and couldn't get it to work...I'm on Bonestock and noticed there wasn't any audio with the regular boot animation...could it be the Rom? Volume is up btw.
To get a better idea of what I did I'll include the tread. I wasn't able to flash, so I had to manually replace/rename the files in my system/customize/resource folder and then change the name for the boot animation in the .xml file. I tried to follow the steps to get the audio file included as well, but it just reverted to a basic android boot animation when I attempted that.

If there's not a solution, its not a big deal...I'm probably overlooking something. Thanks guys!

If I recall correctly, there is an option in the XML file that tells it not to play audio when it's not the first time you set up the phone, meaning it only plays on initial setup. You need to change that setting to play every time. I don't want audio on my boot animations, so I leave it alone.

Add this code to the XML file.
Code:
audio="/system/customize/resource/MP3_file_name_here.mp3"
This is assuming the sound you want is located in the 'resource' folder. If not, give the correct path and filename. Hope this works for you.

Note 10+ Custom Boot Animation

Is it possible to flash or install custom boot animations on this device?
I've an old cia boot animation that I had on my note 2 or 4 that I'd like to put on this phone. Also, I realize that it will most likely need to be modified to fit this screen. That is if it's even possible to customize the animation on this device. Also, the phone in question is the snapdragon variant.
Thanks!
As this is a system file, root will need to be granted... Not sure if that is available for the SD variant yet but I believe it may be for the Exynos...
Just remember, you will break Knox and , I believe this happened with the older models, you might only be able to charge to 80% battery...
Not sure if that is worth a different boot screen...

? Yeah I think I'd rather have a battery that charges to 100% rather than have a custom animation and 80% battery. It's still pretty early though so I'll sit back and watch the show.

If you do so, you will trip Knox and void your warranty.

I am using a custom boot-animation on my Exynos Note 10+...
If you wish to know if it is possible for Snapdragon,
look for path /system/media/
you should see the word "bootsamsung" of type ".qmg" you mainly need the normal one with the loop and not the crypt, if that didn't work, then your device is using crypt, also shutdown.qmg, if not then shutdown_WH.qmg...
If you locate that, you can have your custom boot-animation, just make sure you backup the animation before replacing it and make sure permissions remain re-r--r-- (644) or you will have a boot loop...
good luck...

That I have done already, altered the up_parm of exynos for the bl warning and logo, I opened a thread... As for the boot animation, no prerequisites needed, just replaced the qmg with another maintaining the same permissions and it is done, custom animation applied for shutdown and booting... What I'm not sure about is snapdragon, what's on their side and whether a change is similar to exynos makes a difference on snappy or not, as for up_parm are all static images (exynos, didn't check snappy), no animations... However, I won't say I'm an expert, I just learned about the up_parm recently... ?

In the past I was able to actually open the. qmg file proceed to a file folder containing all the.jpg's of the boot animation in order as a cartoon animation would be. There is grab the .jpg of my choice to use as my background. Of course my phone was rooted, which now isn't, as always up to the Note10+.

Could someone please help me remove the carrier boot animation. I tried deleting the qmg's in the system/media folder but to no luck. Even if i place my custom qmg's, both will play, first the carrier one than the custom one. I'm using the Exynos version.
