I recently installed the boost variant (XT1922-9) on my Brazillian variant (XT1922-9).
and it runs all ok!
My next step is install a Moto G6 Plus on my device, just because the 64 bit works on it.
Can I run a Moto G6 Plus on a Moto G6 Play?
If Anyone didn't this I will let!

Nope. You flashed firmware for the exact same model number. Of course it works.
G6 plus is a very different device. It won't even flash. Bootloader, partition table, etc, etc... All mismatched.
If you don't believe it, give it a shot. It will fail to flash, or brick ?.

I've tried flashing the vendor, oem, and boot.img from the G6 Plus followed by a GSI. It totally did not work, as I expected. It sent me straight to the boot loader with a kernel and vendor mismatch error.

No V930 firmware has been distributed, to my knowledge. But another user reported successfully using the V935 firmware -- that's the European version:

I wonder what broke if anything and what the benefits would be other than getting rid of the AT&T bloatware.. I'd love to get rid of the bloatware and mine is carrier unlocked so maybe I should just go for this and see what happens. I don't even use it with a sim card, I just use it on wifi... decisions, decisions...

Having used the V935 stock image to recover a fouled V930, the main things I notice that are broken using a V935 stock image are that the rear-facing camera doesn't work (since it's different between the two models), the size of the system files is misreported such that it significantly reduces your available storage (since the V935 has 16GB and the V930 has 32GB, I'm guessing), and the gyroscope seems to not work.
Have seen some kludgy fixes for the system file size issue, and one can always throw in a micro SD card for more storage. If you just need it for browsing the web, reading books, video chat, etc. the front camera works fine, and there are a few apps out there that will allow you to manually rotate the screen. For me, though, the lack of a rear camera and gyroscope really limit my use of this, since I use a few AR apps, and this renders the tablet useless for them. So -- unless there are patches for these issues somewhere that I'm missing -- if a V930 stock .kdz DOES show up, bloatware or no bloatware, I will be all over that.

The first time I flashed it, it did that. It turned out to be a bad USB cable. Flashed it again with a different cable, and it worked.
If you're following the instructions for using Flash Tool 2014 step-by-step by-the-numbers, have tried a different cable to re-flash it, and it's still doing that, then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe re-download the KDZ in case the first download attempt was corrupted somehow?
Sorry to not be much help!

You can find root for your device under XDA forums. It will be some kind of script file. When you run script, it will automatically unlock your bootloader. After that, you need to flash custom recovery. After this point, you are able to install custom roms. Remember, gather all necessary files before doing anything e.g. Your device kdz firmware or tot firmware files.
dear sir i tried and i stuck on boot, so please guide me with the tutorial
its been hard to flash any custom rom on this device
my model is d686 , its not d680
so try to give a simple tutorial to flash rom this device, its very hard to boot into recovery menu and secondly the recovery menu appears only once because after flashing the rom i stuck on boot logo and nothing else
please help me
and also make any rom which is suitable for this device so we can install on it and use it without legging
thank you
Honestly in the long run getting a newer phone like a nexus 6 will fair better. This phone was an absolute pain for me to manage and ROMs were always crashing left and right. After switching to a nexus 6 I do not regret it.
I have a question that might be simple to answer, but i need confirmation because i don't want to brick my device recklessly.
When i got my Moto Z play, i immediatley unlocked it, flashed TWRP and installed LineageOS. So my device (including bootloader and baseband) are still on the state it arrived i guess. But my OS ist the newest LineageOS (so android 7.1.2).
My Moto Z play is an XT1635-02 32GB (bootloader adds P7 as variant), software channel must be RETEU.
My bootloader is C0.14 (from 2016-07-11)
and my baseband is M8953_10208.08.04-47e (bootloader says M8953_10208.08.04.47R ADDISON_ROW_CUST)
Are there newer versions of baseband (which might more important) and booloader? And can i flash them without problems?
Just flashing the NON-HLOS.bin in fastboot and i'm fine? Can i also use the 7.0-modem from RETAIL?
Sorry, these questions might be dumb and too careful for old users, but i'm only used to nexus devices and i am scared of bricking my Z play! Nexus factory images always had baseband and bootloader version written in the filename so it was easy to find out if you need to update. In addition there was just one "software channel" which made it hard to brick a device or flash something wrong.

I'm running the original bootloader and baseband from 6.0.1 without any issue, so I would suggest leaving it.
I don't want to get on the wrong side of you but that wasn't my question.
I wanted to know this because i'm not sure if i get the most out of my phone with an older baseband. I can't use VoLTE for example which possibly is activated with a newer baseband. Or it might improve the signal.

Well I'll suggest you only flash the baseband that comes with your specific firmware, if you flash the baseband from another firmware package you will end up without a IMEI and you'll have a expensive brick, which you will send to me so I can use the screen to get my mzp working again. That will be payment for warning you
Good one, flashallthetime
Back in, uh, I think Atrix time or even HTC Desire it was normal to flash/change radio baseband. It supposed to improve radio, prolong battery life... In reality, most of the time didn't do anything, sometimes broke something...
So in theory, you can do that. Should be fine but I wouldn't recommend.
If you have to, to get VoLTE, I would make a backup of the current rom, follow guide to flash back to stock and then restore backup. But be extremely careful, so many users over here bricked their devices. As far as I can see, downgrading and the accepting OTA.

Isn't the boost Mobile variant Sperry, although the only difference is the fingerprint, I would imagine that fingerprint wouldn't work if this was flashed on a Perry device since Sperry doesn't fingerprint support. I MAY BE WRONG, I would appreciate it if someone proved me wron

The title of the thread says Perry, some may not read the filename, it's better to avoid confusion
Just to clarify I just flashed the stock firmware back to my Perry and when it booted up I downloaded this OTA and had it install it in stock recovery, after it was done it rebooted back to system and told me that my software was successfully updated, so even though the zip file says Sperry it does indeed work on Perry devices, you gotta remember that Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile use the same exact stock firmware, the only difference is they provision per the carrier you're on, so in short fingerprint doesn't matter if they use the exact same firmware

I'm confused. If your device is a boost xt1766, it is an sperry not perry. The screen shot is the updater script of the ota zip.
Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using XDA Labs
Once again to clarify, the Boost Mobile XT1766 variant's code name is Perry, this variant can use Sperry stuff because the Sprint firmware can be used on this variant
We all know this, at least most of us. It has been established some time ago. This is why my stock rom thread has one rom for Sprint(Sperry) devices, including Boost, Sprint, and Virgin Mobile variants. We refer to them as sperry to avoid confusion. They are all Sperry, and they do rely on the build fingerprint and sperry codename for the ota updates. The Retail Perry models ota's say perry, perry_retail and have a different build fingerprint. Oh, and the firmware packages have Sperry and Perry, different names because they have different code names. What you were saying just didn't really make sense. For a sec, I thought you were saying you flashed the sprint firmware on a retail model then took the ota.
So I tried the ota the other day but it didn't take. ROM is stock, but I have twrp. Can i flash the zip in recovery then?

You can't install the ota with twrp, or if your device is rooted. You have to be running completely untouched stock, recovery and all to take an official ota. Flash full stock firmware with fastboot first.

Hey guys. Thinking of getting this phone E4 boost mobile.
Can anyone please point me to the gsm unlock guide.
I see that the phone can be rooted but I'm not sure how to use it on a gsm carrier.
Sorry for asking on this thread.
Everyone that is confused on this post. Perry is just referring to the Qualcomm variant of the Moto E4. S-Perry is just any of the Qualcomm E4 devices that DO NOT have the sensor for detecting fingerprints.
Thank you.
Hey guys,
As the g8s is falling in price a lot and has good build quality, I was thinking of picking one up. Sadly the almost non existant updates of LG hinder me here.
So I was wondering, did anyone try to get GSI working on the European g8s, which can be bootloader unlocked? If so, how is the functionality?
Thanks.
same here, anyone tried it?
Not possible because there is no TWRP and also no Custom Roms

Hmm, as far as I understand GSI, it works on project treble enabled phones. For this you don't necessarily need twrp and most of all device specific custom roms. You can theoretically flash a generic GSI on a bootloader unlocked phone with fastboot. The question naturally is, if it's usable than on this specific phone.
But it appears noone tried that with the g8s and the price has gone considerably up again... At least where I live
it would be a horribly stupid move to flash a GSI on a phone without any working recovery - if the GSI fcks up something you're stuck with a phone that might be bricked forever
doubt anyone would want to try that with their flagship phone lol
If only you would know that you can flash a stock kdz with lgup in case it goes sideways. The dll is available from this forum, lgup as well and the kdz from LG fan club.
