I had jailbroken firestick.
I asked to install new version and did factory reset.
Now after I setup the firestick with my account, Im stuck at "welcome to prime" screen with only continue button active. When I press the button I return to same screen or some error page.
Cannot select any options using remote.
I did factory reset multiple times but I end up in the same place.
Prime video on mobile app can see the device and play the video directly but I can't get to Options.
Is there a way to install latest OS from a computer. I don't think I can use adb.
Thanks

What stick generation do you have, i.e. what is the name of the device? montoya, tank or mantis?
I have got firestick 1, good news is after using different account that is without prime subscription I was able to update the firestick and use it.
Thanks.

Hello, today one of my rooted fire tv's became stuck on black screen and basically none of the important stuff can be accessed. This has happened to me a few times in the past and I am usually able to get the settings menu launched by playing around with the remote and the voice functions or if all else fails usually disconnecting my network will prompt the network connections menu which then will jog the main settings again and from there I can force quit and get it back up and running. But today I have gone through pretty much every method I know of and still no luck just a black screen. I run xposed on my fire tv so it is set to use spmc as the homescreen launcher. Any other methods out there that I have not tried? I wanted to avoid having to do a factory restore and reinstall everything if I can.

If you just need to get into the settings menu, then connect to the Fire TV via ADB and run the following command to load up the settings menu:
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.amazon.tv.launcher/.ui.SettingsActivity

The only other way is to hold the home button until the popup menu appears with the settings option. You have to be on one of the newer software version for that to work since it was recently added.
Hi all!
I received a 2nd gen Fire tv that as I am now suspecting had the hosts file modified.
1) It will not pass the register screen. (Enter correct log in info, submit, and it goes back to log in info)
--Is there a fix for this??
2) I have tried the below steps but get the attached massage and can't get into recovery mode.
I found a related thread in xda regarding reset in recovery mode but the thread ended with the issue I am having with no solution.
--Would the recovery reset fix the issue of host file mod?
Thanks!!

"Hi guys
you may know this, but in case you dont, it is very easy to get in to recovery.
you dont even have to unplug the unit from power,
click and hold alt+PrintScreen and then hit i, dont click all keys together, or it wont work.
every time splash screen comes up, hit i key and make sure you already holding the other 2 which is alt+PrintScreen
1: Hold alt+PrintScreen
2: Click i
3: fire TV screen will restart and come back, you should still be holding alt+PrintScreen and all you need to click on is i key
4: do above 3 times until splash screen will no longer come back and all you see is amazon logo in the middle of the screen
at this point, let go of all the keys and wait for firetv to go to recovery mode.
good luck!"
me too
I am having the same issue. I received a secondhand Fire TV today in pristine condition.
I type my correct username and password into the registration box and it immediately says it's incorrect. (it is correct).
I am able to do a factory reset by holding "right" and "back", but it still doesn't solve the problem.
I don't know if it was rooted or not, but I don't care about root. I just want it to work.
Are there any options for flashing a recovery image onto this thing? Stock or pre-rooted, either is fine.

Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to mention that I called Amazon (twice) about this, and they said the device was already registered to "another account".
The second time, I had the rep register it over the phone to my account. Neither rep mentioned anything about it being "blacklisted". It is now listed under my account on Amazon, but the device itself still wants me to register. This probably means either it doesn't know it's registered because it can't get to the server, or it isn't registered because I have the wrong DSN/serial no.
The problem is, the DSN number (serial no?) is NOT on the Fire TV. It is only printed on the box, and I can't be certain that the Fire TV is the same one that originally came in that box, so I don't know if the DSN I registered is actually the DSN of the Fire TV or just one that's printed on the box. Is there any way to get the DSN out of the Fire TV itself without being able to get to the home screen/settings screen? This is a stupid problem.
Honestly this problem sounds like what the OP suggested; if someone rooted it before and altered the hosts file, it wouldn't be able to verify my password or register, and it's behaving like it's "rejecting" my login before it ever gets sent to the server.
I was successfully able to bring up the "recovery" menu using the <ALT>+<PrtSc>+<i> method mentioned. Do I have full access to ADB from there? Can I load recovery images from there?
In summary:
Is there any way to extract the DSN/Serial no. from the Fire TV itself without access to the settings screen?
Is there any way to edit the hosts file from the recovery console or via ADB?
Is there any way to flash a stock image or rooted stock image to the device from the recovery console?
Thanks a bunch,
-Wes
Anybody have Anything we can at least try?? (Besides the soldering)
Thanks
...and FACTORY RESET fails
Hi all,
We have a gen 1 firestick - I did have Kodi installed but NO ADDONS we just used it as for playing home media and photos from the NAS etc. so just Kodi ITV player, youtube via firefox, etc etc. Amazon Prime...
All was fine until a few days ago when I noticed things not working right. It failed to install an ITV hub download and Kodi stopped.
When trying to install an app, it said downloading and then came up with an error such as this:
best picture hosting
It's been installed a while so I thought I would factory reset it.
I did the reset through the menus. It had the reset message on screen for a few minutes then went to black screen. So after 1/2 hour I cycled the power. The white amazon logo came up and then I get the account login screen after 5-10 minutes. I have to then pair the remote - but this won't work unless I take the (brand new duracell) batteries out of the remote for 10s then hold home to force the pair.
The firestick then automatically logs in to my router (though I haven't given any passwords etc.)
I set up the account as normal and I can use BBC iPlayer for example and all seems fine but any app I try and install just fails to install - it gets to the 'downloading icon' then says that the download failed.
If I cycle the power it goes back to the 10 mins white logo and setting up the account all over again.
I tried a second network and a different amazon account and it's the same.
Tried lots of factory resets but always the same outcome.
I do notice that the stick reports 3.19GB of memory used !
I suspect that somehow some files are corrupted on the stick and something is stopping it from doing a proper factory reset so I thought (from reflashing phones in the past) I would try and boot into recovery and try and to a reset from there instead.
I can adb to it,
I managed to boot to recovery but it just gives me a load of this failed and that failed messages at the bottom of the screen.
Any suggestions of how I could force a proper reset or what might be going on would be very gratefully received.
Thanks in advance ?
Netflix on my jailbroken firestick freezes as soon as the login page loads up. I cleared the data & cache and reinstalled it but still the same problem.
I tried to download APK and install the previous version via Adblink but it was not really compatible with a firestick. I don't want to factory reset the firestick because it would un-jailbreak the firestick and I don't know how to jailbreak it since I bought it. Does anyone else having the same problem or know anyways to fix it? Thanks!

Its "Android" not "iOS", so we don't jailbreak here, all you have to do is go to Settings and then "My Fire TV" then go to "Developer Options" and enable "Unknown Sources", Enabling this option allows you to install any app.
But in your case you have a rooted stick, then you will have to update your system via TWRP.
Hello,
I have a Philips 50PFL5766/F7. If I go into settings and select reset (there is no physical reset button on this unit), it doesn't actually reset the tv. Once it reboots, the personal Google account is still there. The TV doesn't boot into Android TV at all, only to an HDMI source. The TV attempts to process a Google update (989MB) on startup but it seems the file is too big or it's corrupted and fails to complete. I've tried deleting individual apps to make room to process the update but on reboot, they reappear. It's as though the OS and data are locked and read-only.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
