Hi all,
I had recently attended a Qualcomm developer conference in San Francisco and they had given an Amazon Fire TV to the attendees. But the problem is that from my home in India, I'm unable to even register the device.
I created an account on Amazon.com with a US address, but it still fails to sign in.
I tried proxy dns services like unlocator and dns4me, but no luck.
Without registering the device I cannot access any menu items , hence no way to enable adb debugging.
My goal is to turn the AFTV into a media centre box / android tv using xbmc and google play store.
Is there a way to skip the registration and enable full access either by -
1. Somehow going to fastboot mode and flashing a pre-rooted image (is that available) ?
2. Or going to recovery mode and adb sideloading a update-zip file which removes the registration hurdle ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I dont want a black brick near my TV which does nothing

Short answer is you'll probably need a US or Germany based VPN. Long answer is fastboot is useless because they prevent everything with a locked bootloader. And recovery is useless because ADB over USB doesn't work. Even if you were able to flash rooted builds, you still need to be able to get through registration.
Thanks. Will try the vpn route.
But just out of curiosity, how do I get to fastboot mode?
I know how to enter recovery mode by using the keyboard
alt+prtscrn+i method. Is there any similar key combination
to get to fastboot? Also, i have used the 'fastboot unlock' cmd
to unlock bootloaders before, but of course it will ask for a
password. Does any one know the unlock pwd for AFTV?
Its a long shot, I know.
A couple hours ago, the AFTV wouldn't play any Prime video and would just hang on the Netflix screen with the loading icon. Fairly certain it was on 51.1.1.0_user_511070220. Definitely 51.1.1.0. This was rooted with updates turned off using the adbFire app and a few Amazon URLs blocked in my router's access restrictions. After rebooting the AFTV a couple times, I read that a lot of solutions online were to delete the Prime/Netflix apps' data/cache. That didn't fix it. So then I followed the next common step and deauthorized the account. This is where the AFTV starting going crazy. After putting the user/pass back in, it started very quickly flashing between the "Authorizing Your Device" screen and the "Could not connect screen." A lot of button mashing broke the loop but every time I entered the user/pass, the loop would begin again. Hard and soft rebooting had no effect. Turning off the router (running AdvancedTomato) access restriction didn't help. I even used adbFire to very temporarily re-enable updates. Still no access.
I figured that this was a sign I should protect my root better. It may have been a mistake, but I decided to try and install Clockwork recovery. I left the "pm disable com.amazon.dcp" from adbFire enabled. So Amazon updates were still blocked. I downgraded to 51.1.0.2_user_510058520 kinda not realizing that this would kill my root and maybe also not realizing that Clockwork would need root to install.
I now have the same exact problem as before. I am stuck on the registration page and cannot sign in. It either says that the "sign in failed" or that the "connection was lost." At least on this earlier firmware, it doesn't seem to get stuck on the flashing loop between those two screens. There is some new weirdness where it seems to be pressing buttons on its own somehow. The text entry menu will disappear as if I closed it. And then when I select it again, it's in a broken format with all the keyboard buttons there, but the input field names missing.
I have verified that the current firmware is 51.1.0.2_user_510058520 with "grep fingerprint /system/build.prop".
I am 99% sure that nothing else from amazon is blocked besides "pm disable com.amazon.dcp", which I'm now unable to turn on again as I don't have root. adbFire says that "Amazon updates are off". I thought that this was reset by a downgrade? I can't think of anything else to check. I used to use dnsmasq to block three Amazon URLs before I found AdvancedTomato's Access Restriction but dnsmasq is empty and the rule in Access Restriction is deleted.
I am 99% sure I never edited my AFTV's hosts file. I just did "adb pull /system/etc/hosts" and all it has in it is "127.0.0.1 localhost".
Is there anything else I should check?
Just tried it again this morning. After every "sign in failed," if I let it sit on the failed screen with the keyboard where it wants me to enter user/pass again and touch nothing for 5-10 seconds, it will suddenly close that keyboard pop up and then immediately reopen it -- except it will be broken in that it's missing all the labels for fields like "Enter email here".
?
If you have Amazon.dcp disabled then remove all the blocked sites from the router and boot it up and see if you get connected. Maybe a site you have blocked is the issue

I don't know where the router block could be. The rule in Access Restrictions is deleted and the Dnsmasq field is empty. I'm going to try using a cell phone hot spot to register it. Probably won't change anything but I can at least rule out the router as a problem.
Hey guys, I am needing some help. I have a First Gen FireTv box that was rooted previously and is now stuck on the registration screen when you first start up the box.
Here's what I did to get to this place. The box was rooted with CWM recovery installed. I followed this guide and made it back to the registration screen. When I tried to log back into the firetv box I kept getting "The information does not match an Amazon account. If Sign in Approval is enabled, please follow the instructions on your phone." The problem is, that I don't have Sign in Approval enabled (that I know of) and I never received any type of message on my phone... During my sign in attempt, I also kept getting the Critically Low on Storage popup.
After trying to sign in, I tried to connect to the box using ADB again, and it actually worked. That told me that something wasn't quite right with the downgrade process so I re-installed CWM and ran through the guide again and then went in and did a wipe of all user data thinking it would clear up the storage issue. I am pretty sure the storage issue is cleared up, but unfortunately, I now cannot log into my firetv to check the firmware version or enable ADB. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? Please help before I screw things up even more with this box (if that's even possible)

Use any browser on your PC/Mac to recoup (using the email you used to create it) or create a new Amazon account. Then log in.
You should still look into moving into PreRooted FireOS 5. The low storage will be back quickly. That bug was never fix on FireOS 3. The only true fix is updating to FireOS 5.
I had jailbroken firestick.
I asked to install new version and did factory reset.
Now after I setup the firestick with my account, Im stuck at "welcome to prime" screen with only continue button active. When I press the button I return to same screen or some error page.
Cannot select any options using remote.
I did factory reset multiple times but I end up in the same place.
Prime video on mobile app can see the device and play the video directly but I can't get to Options.
Is there a way to install latest OS from a computer. I don't think I can use adb.
Thanks

What stick generation do you have, i.e. what is the name of the device? montoya, tank or mantis?
I have got firestick 1, good news is after using different account that is without prime subscription I was able to update the firestick and use it.
Thanks.
Hi everyone
i my friend gave me his firestick 4k the other day because he has managed to mess it up big time
He said that he followed a tech docter youtube video to sideload an app to remove bloatware, after being successful at this, he then used an app that clears your cache and closes all the apps for you, from what i can understand it sounded like the app "cleanmaster"
after doing that he immediately lost his internet connection, he said that there wasnt even a network section anymore, just a troubleshooting option, he then factory reset his stick but this didnt solve anything
ive got the stick setup now, ive looked in the network section and he was right, theres nothing, even in the my fire tv section where you can see the ip/mac/ssid etc, they all say "not connected"
ill attach pictures
Im willing to flash this somehow, or root it, install cfw anything, please help!
Try:
Select Settings > Network from the Fire TV menu, then Play/Pause on your remote, and follow the recommended steps.
If that doesn't work maybe reset the stick again.
I know one of the settings in the debloat tool turns off the ability to see new networks, resetting should have reenabled that switch.

Thanks for replying, pressing play/pause does nothing, as you can see there is nothing on the network page at all except the troubleshoot option
Factory reset doesn't work at all, doing a factory reset from the my fire tv section just makes you go back to the settings menu, using the back and right button combo does nothing either, even if you wait for the countdown to end
When he gave me the stick he had already factory reset it so there are no apps on here at all including this bloatware one you mentioned, nothing

If you have a stick that is from 2019 you can fix it by unlocking it and installing another firmware. This will also give you root privileges.

[NEWBIE GUIDE] How to Unlock Bootloader/Root and install Addons FireStick 4k
None of this is my work and all recognition goes to the awesome developers that made this possible, I will link their guides in here with some minor notes for newbies like me that may had some issues trying to unlock and root the Fire Stick (FS)...
forum.xda-developers.com
It doesn't have to show ip address, follow the thread carefully. It involves opening up the stick, connecting it to pc (via the power cable) and shorting a resistor.
This will unlock the stick and let you flash brand new firmware. It's the only way to do it if your factory reset isn't working I'm afraid.

Thankyou for this fantastic response, when I've got spare time and the balls to try it I'll dive in, seems complicated but I'll give it a good go

don't unlock your stick, use any of the method
Method 1:
reinstall the app again and turn on wifi, the wifi on the stick is disabled.
Method 2:
take out your stick, connect to your pc
wait for it boot
enter
adb devices
if it says "unauthorized"
press "Down" on remote two timesand press "select" to authorize your pcwhen it says "device"
enteradb shellsvc wifi enable
if you get "killed" error then go for method 3
Unplug your stick from PC and connect to your TV.
Method 3
Install the apk on your stick, then click on "Enable"
It will also tell you if your Wifi is disabled or not.
This app can TURN ON and TURN OFF the WIFI
Here's a proof
Hi I'm trying method 2 at the moment, but if it doesn't work how do I install the WiFi enabler APK without having WiFi?

I've run into the next problem, I've installed the debloat tool, I've re enabled everything to try and clean up the mess my friend made, but when I try and deregister the stick it just goes straight back to settings, is there anything else I can do here? (he said I can have the stick now as he has a new one)

Reboot your stick (Long press "Play/Pause + Select" for few seconds)
Try deregistering, is result is same, go to developers options, turn it off and then on again.
Go to network section of the stick copy the ip address.
Then go to your pc, (make sure your Stick and PC are on same wifi network)
Enter
adb disconnect
adb connect ip:5555
Here ip is the ip address of your stick
Eg adb connect 192.168.43.123:5555
It should connect
