The problem:
A few days ago, my Moto G5S started rebooting whenever I turned on the camera. This happened both with the main Camera app and in apps that use the camera, like Google Translate or WhatsApp.
But the phone doesn't reboot completely; it shows the first screen with Motorola 'M' logo with 'Powered by Android' of the reboot sequence, and then starts the reboot again. And again, and again.
The first few times this happened, this re-reboot cycle stopped after about 10 minutes; the phone completed the reboot sequence with no input from my side and started working normally again. But the camera issue still persists, and when it reboots, the re-reboot cycle keeps going indefinitely, until I force interrupt it.
If I long press the power button in the middle of the reboot sequence, and then wait for a few minutes to turn on the phone, it usually starts up normally. Sometimes it goes into the re-reboot cycle, and then I have to power off, wait and try again.
The only guaranteed way to get it to restart it is to connect it to a charger or my PC, and then long press the power button to turn it off. If I then turn it on while it is plugged in, it starts up normally.
General observations, and what I tried:
- This is independent of battery life. It happens even when the phone is fully charged.
- It happens even when no other apps are running in the background.
- The phone isn't heating up.
- I removed all new apps. No difference.
- I did a factory reset. Still the same issue persists.
Any idea what could be causing this? The phone is in perfect working condition otherwise, and I don't want to have to get another phone because of this one deal-breaker, if it's something that can be resolved.
Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance!

Okay I will try to sum this up. My S3 was working fine and everything randomly I noticed issues with battery calibration It would be 100% then I would calibrate it and then unplug and then I'd instantly drop to 85%. Thought It was a battery issue and made a point to get a new one later. Then it kept working for another month or so then It started really screwing up the shutdown menu would randomly pop up and I'd back out of it.
Then randomly 3 seconds later the phone reboots. And it would keep doing that randomly I thought it might be a power button issue. Then as time goes on it got really bad to where it would simply reboot and not make it past the bootloader, It would not "reboot" more like a complete shutdown then I'd have to power it again and have it do the same thing. Seeing how I could not even make it past the bootloader I got a new battery, waited a week for it and then I put it in and the same issue happened. It would not get past the bootloader.
So I kept trying and trying and trying and it finally booted past that. And it stayed on for a whole night. I did everything on it I normally would and it was working great. Then the battery was getting low so I plug it in and was going to calibrate it after it was charged, I go back to it and it's dead again won't get past the bootloader once again. I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this I pop'd off the button and blew in there and the button seems fine and everything still no change. I also can not get into recovery. It trys and loads but then shuts off. Anyway if anyone has any ideas on what this is or how to fix please help! I need my phone back! Thank you.
I'm running MOAR Lite version.
UPDATE: Took the phone apart and took a close look at the button it looks 100% fine...I saw a video on youtube that requires you to complete tear the button off and it works. But I don't know if the button is my main cause of this issue or if it will actually work. Some says it works, some says it does nothing...Please let me know thanks...
UPDATE 2: It will show that battery with spinning circle in it for like 1 second then turn off again. (When it is plugged in)
That's odd. But when it comes to the power button, dismantling and what not 90% of the time will show 0 issues. It will look perfectly fine when it's not. You playing with the power button I assume were pressing hard and normally to try testing it. It's a common issues on this version of the S3 to have faulty power button and you would need to get it repaired. Odly even slightly atmospheric changes can cause it to act different at different points. Some days it works fine, other days a very slight brushing over can cause it to screw up and trigger a manual shut down (holding for like 10 or 15 seconds).
Assuming that it is the power button, or to try, just do a variation of things to the power button itself. Use your finger nail to jiggle it around with different pressures. During boot if it shuts off, it could be the power button internally stuck, just jiggle it around.
This is all I can think of unless you bring it in to get repaired.
I was encountering the exact same problem. I would try to get into download mode and it would sit at the "Downloading" screen for about 5-7 seconds then the display would go blank. It won't make it into recovery either. Based on the above recommendation I took the whole phone apart and sprayed a lot of compressed air directly on the power button mechanism and the plastic case pressing the button in. I didn't see anything broken with the button when I did that.
It seems to be working now, I can boot into my Rom. Don't know how long this fix will last.
SInce Upgrading to Lollipop my N4 now Freezes when I plug the Charger in. The Screen is Dark the Red Light is Lit. The phone will not do ANYTHING. If I Hold Down the Power Button Nothing Happens, No Matter what I push Nothing Happens. The Screen just stays dark. I end up having to Pull the Battery & Power it On. This Never happened before the Lollipop Update. I dont know if its tied to the 5.0 Update or not but it never happened before. Now it happens almost Every time I charge my N4. After the 1st couple times I thought maybe it was just a glitch & wouldnt happen again but it happens almost every time I charge it. Side Note: I did peform a FDR before Updating to 5.0. Does anyone know what could be causing the Freeze or know How to Start Trouble Shooting the Problem? What I can do to Sniff Out whats causing the Freeze? Thanks in Advance for any Help. Jason T.
(I searched the Forum for anyone else having this Problem & my search results came up with ZERO, I typed in Phone/N4 Freezing while Charging)
Same here. I want to add couple of more issues actually.
-when charger is plugged, that lightning icon disappears and re appears every 50-70secs. But this happens very quickly that your eyes may not catch it. When soft keyboard is on, keyboard disappears in the blink of an eye and reappears. It is impossible to use the keyboard sometimes. I suspect, power button address is called for a reason or a proccess is terminated and re-run again, couldnt identify which process. This gives me the smell of a software error. Some users tell that even they cannot unlock their phone because keyboard pattern is disappearing half way and have to redraw the pattern. If this sucks, disconnect the charger and draw the pattern and reconnect again. But ofcourse after this your keyboard starts malfunctioning.
-When phone left plugged to charger, it never reaches 100% charged so easily. Always starts to slow charging at 92% or 94%. When you watch red light, it seems to go steady but blinks very quickly every 20-30 secs actually. When the phone is turned off, it is again blinking very quick every 20-30secs that even you can not catch. This slows down charging. As the phone is off and no software is running, this gives me the idea that bootloader or in other words bios is malfunctioning.
-I have tried different chargers ranged 500mA to 2000mA, result is slightly changed. Phone's original charger is also a problem.
-Connected bluetooth keyboard, no issues encountered during typing. But when you move the cursor left or right by keeping left or right arrow, it stucks just for a portion of a second and keeps going. So, again there is a software malfunction is interfering this. So strange.....
-When i remove the battery and give about 6-10 secs then re install the battery and startup the phone, problem dissolves for a short time and again starts.
-I have replaced the battery (thinking this is a battery issue) installed a brand new one, result didnt changed.
-For example open google chrome and just wait.... You see (random time elapses) google chrome application restarts. Again do not touch anything, many times you see google chrome restarts. Actually i have tried boatbrowser also. Just run the app and go to a web page and wait..... app restarts. This causes when you are climbing down the page, it teleports to top of the page and reloads.
-I have long pressed power button. When power off and restart appeared, long pressed on power off, then safe mode appeared and selected it. When device started from safe mode nothing changed. Conclusion at this stage this is not caused by a third party app.
-I am a PC user for a very long time, i know when hardware malfunctions, different fatal things happen. Not this kinda things. This things gives me the strong idea of a software malfunction.
-Also, you cannot turn your screen off. When you press your power button it just turns off for a fraction of a second then turns on asking for my password (my unlock screen is password protected).
So, two conclusions; this is a software error (most probably), or a hardware error (less chance). If hardware is malfunctioning then service is required. But u know services are not solving problems 100%. They may simply say "no problems found with your device"
I am also waiting for a solution or an update. I have to tell that this has first started when my battery depleted completely when i was out. When i get back home plugged to AC charger, red light was on but not charging. Phone remained dead for several hours. Then i long pressed power button then it blinked 3 times then to sign of life. Everytime i long pressed the button same 3 blinks came. Removed the battery then placed it back, started charging. After about 40mins phone was awake . In the middle of the night i was up for a drink and my phone was on the wall charger. Screen was turning off then on then off then on non-stop repeating this. That time i was using a different charger. I thought wattage of the charger was not powerful enough. Unplugged the phone saw that it was 94%. This is the all story. But started happening after upgrading to lollipop.
Hi. So after a long wait I got my Zenfone 2 ZE551ML today. The first thing I did was turning it on and it turned on normally, then I proceeded to make the initial setup (logging into google account, etc) without any problems. Then after about 10 minutes of use the phone suddenly turned off with the battery being at around 35% and didn't want to turn on again. I read that old firmware (like the one that comes default with the phone) had battery display errors so I thought the phone had run out of battery, so I charged it for 8 full hours and I unplugged it now. To my surprise the phone is not turning on either. The only way I can make the screen show something is by connecting it to the charger, it vibrates and displays a white battery icon, eventually changing to fully green (fully charged battery, the green led indicator also appears) only to disappear like 3 seconds after. Can't turn the phone on while charged and can't even make the phone show the battery icon again (unless I unplug and plug again, repeating the cycle). So, what can I do to turn it on?
Thanks in advance.

I have a feeling that you did not hold the power button long enough. Disconnect the charger first, and wait for about 10 seconds. Then, hold the power button for at least 6 seconds. The phone should then vibrate and then you may release the power button. Other reasons why your phone may not seem to be turning on at all might be due to the back cover not being fully locked in, thus not making any contact with the power on the motherboard itself.
Do report back the results.

I did. Doesn't work. I also removed the back cover and pressed the power button with nails with no results either. Personally I think there's something to do with the power button as it doesn't even responds while charging (pressing it should display the battery icon) and the only time I could use the phone it didn't work to wake up the phone or setting it to sleep, only double tapping worked. What is strange is that it worked the first time I turned on the phone though.
Are you able to get into FastBoot mode? If so please try performing a hardware reset including wipe cache partition. Please see the following:

I got that several times when connecting my phone to the PC. I removed the back plate and disconnected the battery, after reconnecting phone booted up.

I am facing same problem.my zf2 power button does not work and unfortunately my mobile switched off.now I m not able to switch on again.nothing happen when I press power button. Is there any other way to switch on ?please suggest me if u get solution
The watch is continuously rebooting. I would like to factory reset it, but it appears there is no way to do it as the watch just keeps rebooting. I see Huawei logo, then the watch vibrates twice, shuts down, and the same cycle continues. I let it sit, so the battery dies, but after recharge, it just repeats the same reboot cycles.
I tried going into bootloader using instructions here,
https://www.hanfei.name/huawei-watch-boot-to-fastboot-mode-by-using-physical-button.html
nothing happens. The watch just continuously reboots. The long pressing of the physical button doesn't do anything.
Hi , I’m having this same problem. How did you solve yours ?
I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue that happens to my phone every few weeks. I don't usually reboot my phone, but sometimes I do. Occasionally, when the phone starts, the screen is completely black. If I shine a flashlight on it, I can sometimes faintly see the screen. The only thing that can resolve it is holding down the power button for 10 seconds so it restarts.
Sometimes when it happens, if I'm in the car etc, I can't tell if the phone is on or off, so it's a bit of a headache.
I've completely reset my phone and flashed an Android 10 Image a few months ago, but it still occurs. ( This was a full factory reset with clearing cache etc in recovery ). I've never rooted the phone, but have always had bootloader unlocked.
Anyone else ever experience this?

I'm still on Android 9 and occasionally this happens to me too. I rarely reboot so I don't notice it that much but it does happen. If I hold the power button down I can feel the vibrate feedback for the power menu presumably. I've never tried to troubleshoot it investigate because it happens too infrequently for me
