Always on heart rate monitor causes massive step counts - Samsung Galaxy Watch

Hi, when I switch the heart rate monitor to always on (or the stress measurement) ,the step count goes through the roof! For example I wake up in the morning having 3000+ steps already! My wife can confirm I'm not sleep walking
Resetting the watch did not help.
Anyone else having this issue?
I am on the latest firmware.

I also noticed that if I have the default tomcat watch face on, which has a glare effect that uses the gyro to adjust itself, the glare jumps to the extremes as if it was getting wrong readings from the gyro. I was almost convinced that there is something wrong with the sensor but when I switch the continuous HR off, the glare stopped jumping and it smoothly followed my wrist, proving that the gyro works fine. I will attach two videos to illustrate.

[Q] Barometer calibration?

Just got the GN for Sprint 2 days ago and have so far enjoyed my selection. I have run across an issue with the onboard barometer though. It seems to always read way lower that the pressure actually is. With every app I use it on it reads 1.2 mercuries low inHg and about 35 hPa low depending on which app I use. Is there any way to calibrate the sensor to compensate since not all apps have a calibration option?
Zero responses? There has to be some way to calibrate it since it uses a piezo system and not actual mercury.
Depends on where you are. It's not corrected for height, so if you are 1000ft above MSL, you'll read 1 inHg low because that's the actual pressure. Your local weather station/airport altimeter setting have corrected for altitude, so places like Denver, CO don't scare people by telling them the local pressure is lower than at the center of hurricanes.
Various apps have a built-in correction factor that you have to manually enter. Barometer HD and Barograph are two that I've found so far that have a correction setting. You have to play with it until it reads the same as the weather man says. Barograph seems cool because it periodically takes the reading, instead of telling you what it is every half a second. You only see the power of a barometer by observing the pressure changes over several hours. Another graph over time app I just found is Barometer Monitor. There's no correction factor, but it does allow you to specify how often it measures the pressure.

This stupid Green light. its ALWAYS on

I have factory reset the watch and everything. I dont run Fit and all the Moto Body notifications are turned off on the watch, yet it comes on every 30 seconds to 1 minute. Charging, on my wrist, on the table, doesnt matter.
Also my battery life, while still decent, isnt as good as it was before 5.1
Anyone else seeing this?

I have noticed the heart rate sensor activating more frequently after the 5.1 update. However, it's not every minute like your does. I notice the green light every time I take it off the charger. Then, I notice if it detects any slight movement thereafter, it will turn on. Like when it's laying on it's side on my night stand, if I pick up my phone and put it down next to it, the light turns on because it feels the slightest vibration from putting the phone down. Pretty much, if I lightly knock the night stand, the green light comes on. A little annoying, but whatever.
i don't care to notice the heart rate sensor light... and after upgrading to 5.1, my battery has stayed the same!
How do you think it does off body detection? Accelerometer alone won't cut it, it looks for a living wrist when its "too still".
mine always comes on when i take my watch off. its trying to detect a heart rate but since it cant find it itll keep looking and it does eat the **** out of the battery.
for example if i take the watch off the charger and let it sit to cool off before i wear, i will always notice the green light on and if i dont wear it in time ill lose ~5-10% battery
No ones really post an answer as to how to turn off the notifications of the wear functionality. its ****ing annoying, excuse my french
Yeah, I've noticed this as well. Before the update, one was able to turn off the heart rate feature altogether by disabling the health tracking stuff.. but now it doesn't seem to matter, it comes on regardless.

heart rate monitor

Does anyone else feel that the heart rate monitor is useless.

true.. i wish they replace the sensor with a bigger battery.. or a compass at least
even if it work.. i still dont know.. why we should know our hear beat?! to make it useful it should work as heartbeat loop!
I don't think it's accurate and yes, I can easily live without it.
I find it handy when going for a run. I wish it would send the data to google fit or keep the heart rate data in-conjunction with weather, incline, steps etc...
I have dobbel checked my heart rate, and HW Censor works fine ! For me all ok .
Yes. Heart rate monitor is retarded. I guess if you use it for working out but if your serious you would have a more accurate dedicated unit.
The pedometer is also stupid to have on your wrist. I can be at me desk all day working and it says made like 6,000 steps. A pedometer should be at your waste.
Useless stuff like that are just gimmicks. Watches are for assisting with notifications.
From doing comparisions with a proper heart rate monitor the one on the W1 does seem quite accurate to be fair. None the less I don't really see the pint in having one on such a high end smartwatch, I can't imagine I'll ever wear this thing whilst working out.
I find the heart rate sensor to be useless if the band is not tight enough. Other than that, it stops working if too much sweat builds up.
Yes, this is useless for me at least. If it does not monitor during workout it can not alarm you on reaching your limit.
Not quite related but does anyone know why there is such a big discrepancy in step counts between Huawei fitness tracking and Google fit? Google gives me about 1000 steps more then Huawei.

Step counter is stupid on a wrist. I work at my desk and it says I walked 5000+ steps. Bahaha yea right.
The heart rate monitor is also a gimmick. I honestly never used it. I guess some people would.
I was hoping to ditch my fitness tracker and have the Huawei watch be my single wearable, but the heart rate monitor is not up to the task. It does give a pretty accurate reading for me, but only at rest. I've tried exercising with it a few times and the monitor just stops recording after a few minutes. Sigh. I've gone back to using the Garmin Vivosmart HR for workouts.
As for step counting, the problem is exacerbated by being left handed. Doing things like brushing teeth, eating, etc. will add bogus numbers to my step counts. Since most, if not all, watches are designed to be worn on the left wrist this is a problem for us lefties. I started wearing the Garmin on my right wrist and find the false step padding to be less of an issue.
Bottom line is I'm still pleased that I got the watch, it's just not as useful as I was hoping for. Looking forward to the Marshmallow update...
^ditto! I mostly use this cool watch for exercise! Bring on marshmallow...
I use it for my sleep tracking, Sleep like android is great for this and does full all night tracking. I can have my watch on me all day, and tracking at night (double click to turn screen off so the battery lasts) and it charges in the AM while I get ready for work. My only issue is being on all night sometimes seems to start to burn my skin. I have to take it off my left, and put it on my right at night so my left can "heal".
i have used hearth rate only a few times in 1 month but now it don't works anymore ( like wrist gestures). I Will wait 1.4 firmware before sending it back to amazon. factory reset was useless

Sorry for off topic, but what is your thougths after tracking your sleep, did it change your quality of life or you are more aware of something than without this feature? what is adres value of this, do you sleep better, deeper, longer?
I use sleep monitors for already a few years (started with sleep as an droid, then miband, now hwatch). And yes: it improves hugely how i wake up. It awakes me earlier than alarm, but i feel less tired when I wake up, compared to without monitoring...
But it depends on how your personal sleep-habits are. If you almost always sleep well and feel good in the morning, you'll likely not have the benefit of the feature.
As for the skin: regularly clean your watch on the skin side with isopropyl alcohol.

Inconsistent Heart Rate Monitor

I bought a manufacturer refurbed Moto 360 first gen the other day. I have noticed that the Heart Rate Monitor is very inconsistent, meaning that if I go into moto body or Google fit and tell it to read my heart rate it fails probably 4 out of 5 times. Its pretty tight on my wrist and I hold still but still no luck. I do see the little green light come on when the watch is off so I know it is working.
Anyone have this issue and any advice on getting it to work. I got this watch to supplement Strava with my heart rate on bike rides so its value is not so great if this doesnt work.
I have always found the heart rate monitor in my 1st gen Moto 360 to be hit-or-miss when manually initiating a heart rate check. It usually takes 3 attempts to get a reading.
I wouldn't even consider relying on it for physical activity tracking.
I was getting this the other day. Then took the watch off and wiped the sensor and tried it again and it worked first time, sweat and dead skin can easily block it.

Proximity sensor acting weird

My proximity sensor is pulsating not while on call but while screen is off and in good light conditions. When ambience is dimmed, it stops. Why is it doing this, any fix? Using dome glass.
Weird, but maybe somehow the glue and glass are indeed interacting with the sensor under certain conditions, I was wondering if with this new under display sensor wouldnt be this kind of issues, reading about your case, then I will not use any
Any other insight or possible solution?
I need to make a correction to my question. This behaviour happens when AOD is on and light is good. Funny enough I don't see it on call. But screen turns off just fine on call.
Same here. Even with AOD off. Seems to turn on randomly and flicker. When I wave in front of it, then it stops.
If I turn off the AOD, it stops doing this.
I also have this..sometimes it keeps flickering even after I have unlocked the screen. If I put my finger over it then it goes
I had to turn off tap to wake as the phone kept coming on in my pocket despite the phone being faced towards my leg, to me the proximity sensor in the 10+ is just wrong.
I turned off adaptive AOD brightness and it stopped doing this.
Interesting. I don't see this behavior.
With AOC on a slightly than 1% per hrs battery usage seems to be nominal operation.
This circuit uses little current I suspect anyway.
Unless it's using more battery than I stated it doesn't matter.
It wouldn't harm the OLED... cool find.
