I'm traveling in the US (European guy), meaning no permanent address. I need a phone otherwise I'm lost.
Just got the 3a Xl unlocked and the speakers are toast. Rattling, crackling. I need to replace it and I have a problem.
Amazon returns and stuff takes time, plus the most time I spend without moving is 2 days. Current location is LA. Can't order it because of that.
Retail stores all tell me they don't have any unlocked phones, order online. Can't do that.
Is there a place I can go to that sells this phone NEW and actually has warranty?
Oh and did I screw up my warranty by joining the beta program? Bootloader is locked still, no root.
Also: it's 2019. How hard is to manufacture a phone that works? This shouldn't be a problem. At all. Ever. With any product.

Thank you. Bought another one and the return on the first one is on the way. Hope the second one is OK.

My Pixel C has been flawless since I bought it two months ago on Swappa (New/resale). When I booted it up this morning, there are a lot of lines across the screen and the colors are washed out. Looks like a TV from 40 years ago with rabbit ears and very poor reception.
No mods of any kind. Locked bootloader with stock 7.0 November security patch. NRD91N
I've searched and not found anything similar on this forum. I tried clearing cache and factory reset without any effect.
Any recommendations before I try to contact Google? Not optimistic about their support because I didn't buy directly from them.
Update: I contacted Google Support, and while they were polite they basically told me to go pound sand. They said they could provide no support since I didn't purchase from the Google Store. Said "return it to the store you bought it from". The guy had never heard of Swappa, and didn't care. So, while I bought a new device via Swappa, it appears I'm left holding the bag.
I did open a case on PayPal, but I am not optimistic about the outcome. The seller has been unresponsive, so far.
Any recommendations appreciated.
Update: while I wait for some resolution from PayPal, one thing I've learned, that I'll pass on to other users is: do not buy a "new" device on eBay or Swappa. If you didn't buy it from Google or one of their authorized resellers and something goes wrong, you're left holding the bag. Google will do nothing to help you.
Final update:. PayPal refunded my money today. Decided the claim in my favor. Three cheers for PayPal. Raspberries for Swappa and Google.
Yikes, sorry to hear that. My Google RMA was fairly painless, though I purchased through Amazon.
If your PayPal case falls through, you may have an option to request reimbursement through your credit card (if you used one through PayPal). American Express, for example, provides extended warranties for most purchases automatically. I've used that for other electronics that have failed on me in the past and they've been very easy to work with.
I will certainly stay away from Swappa!

Another Pixel C
Hey,
I would like to get some advices before I purchase a Pixel XL
what would be a better choice if I am not willing to buy a brand new Pixel XL
a used one from swappa (mint condition)
a refurbished phone from ebay (it was refurbished by a company approved by the manufacturer), with only 30-days seller warranty..
the price is almost the same for both phones.
the only thing that would worry me with the refurbished is if the screen was the reason for the refurb, then maybe they did not install an Original replacement ? could this happen?
what would you advice me to do?
Not sure if there are panels by other manufacturers, I think they are all literally the same. So if a screen was replaced, it was replaced by the same quality part that was in to begin with.
Personally, I'd go swappa, I use swappa constantly and I think there is a 60 day return thing with them (can't remember)
I bought mine from Swappa and it was such an easy buying experience.
I would just go through eBay either way you're going to be good.
There was a sale previously from Google Store.

I think before or after Pixel 2 released, there would be another round of sale, if you are not in hurry to purchase.

Get Swappa you could find a good deal a lot of times the sellers throw in accessories. but I would tell you if you could wait for a few months you should for Pixel 2.
I have sold on SWAPPA and have not had any issues. I have not bought anything as of yet. I do like EBay as well and have sold and bought from there.
Just look at the persons feedback. I would try SWAPPA before Ebay.
Get one on swappa that's mint and not a refurbished one

The 2XL is already priced at $100 off. I ordered one late last week and was discounted $100 at the checkout.

It came to $749 plus tax from the Google store. Amazon shows slightly higher but there are refurbs cheaper and are most likely bootloader locked (no root). Honestly I do not trust Amazon sellers all that much and you probably won't get a two year warranty like Google. I fixed the screenshot in my previous post.

You need to be very sure where he got it from if rooting and unlocking are important to you. If it was any where other than the Google store you won't be able to do that.

Thanks, I will try to check... The phone should be unlocked as it will be used outside of the US... why would rooting be important?

If the phone was purchased on BF then it will be bootloader locked since it was from Verizon. Google didn't have a BF deal. But you might be confusing bl unlock with carrier unlock. You might want to check that. Rooting is only important if you want to modify the device from stock.

It's only important if you want to root it. Let me be more clear. It is SIM unlocked, they all are no matter where they come from.
I was speaking of bootloader unlocking, which is needed only for rooting and modifying. If that isn't important to you, you are all set no matter where it came from.
I just got my pixel 2xl off eBay for $465. It is pretty and fast and a great deal.
Wow that's low. That's with the Labor Day discount going on right?

Tonik, your distinction between bootloader/sim unlock is super helpful to me. It's essential I have a rootable phone, I use my smartphone as my primary internet connection at home with my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Is there a particular model number of Pixel 2 that I should be looking for (in the used market) that would designate is as having come from Google as opposed to one of the carriers? When I rooted my Galaxy S6 (model G920P, which I believe pegs it to Sprint) 3 years ago, I realized too late that there were only very few custom roms for my specific device, and this was terribly disappointing after having come from a Sprint Nexus phone using the glorious Dirty Unicorns rom.

Unfortunately the model numbers are the same. Imei will tell you but the seller isn't going to give you that. Or you can get a pick of developer options from the seller. There is a slider that allows oem unlock. It needs to be blue.
I have Verizon and want to buy a Pixel 2 XL with an unlocked bootloader, refurbished or new. I know I can purchase a new one from the Google store but the price is still $799 for the 128 Gb model. On Ebay they are under $500 now but getting an unlocked bootloader is near impossible because most are Verizon phones. Does anyone know specifically where you can buy one besides the Google store?
Look on swappa for a Google edition Pixel 2 xl. Good prices and they verify the imei to make sure your not buying stolen stuff.

Second vote for Swappa. I've bought 4 phones from there over the years with good experiences.
Great, thanks for the suggestion! I'll check Swappa out.

I got a Pixel 2 Xl 128 GB for $430. It has a small scuff on the bottom corner that's hardly noticeable. This thing is heads and tails better than my S7 Edge.
My unit was purchased directly from Google play store, still in warranty.
I looking to upgrade to a 3 xl... Pm me maybe we can work somethjng out
Black 64gb unlocked play store version.

I would go through Swappa and try and sell your phone there. It was a good experience for me. I bought one and don't need another one, but thanks anyway.
Swappa even states if it's a Google Edition or a Verizon
I recently ordered a pixel 2 unlocked that was a refurbished unit (yesterday) and then i read here on xda on the how to root pixel 2 Nathan chance's thread that explains how to root, a user states that he received 4 returhished units and all had encrypted bootloader's. His original device did not. Google pretty much told him tough luck. Then I read a few write ups on Reditt and on Google help site about the same thing. The refurbs have the switch and you can flip it on, however when you key in the fastboot command to unlock bootloader it fails. I canceled my order akd swappa got upset so I hooked me up with the links and told them to sticky that ****!! Seriously pissed me off!!
The 3xl is on sale at Amazon for 599 and I was hoping someone here might know if model # GA00469-US has the unlockable bootloader. The same model # is also be sold at BH photo.
I've googled the model# to try and figure this out and cannot be 100% sure.

Id buy it before amazon realize the the pixel 3xl is back to full price on google.
I would at least want to check the IMEI to see if it is possibly unlockable. Otherwise, buy it and try then return it if not.

All the Amazon phones are the locked version. The only place that sells unlocked is direct from Google.

This is incorrect. I bought my Pixel 3 XL from Amazon, brand new, on Amazon Prime Day 2019. My version has the unlockable bootloader. The very first thing I did was unlock it.

Your right, only verizon models are locked. You can purchase verizon models from amazon, it will say whether or not the phone needs verizon to work.
