So I am on the latest beta 5 of Android 10 and recently realized that all my apps that were installed using an apk file are unable to access internal storage or gallery (even after granting storage permissions).
Cloned apps (using app cloner) seems so have the same issue as well.
I tried clearing cache and storage of play services and store with no luck.
Anyone else running into this?

I had the same issue I finally figured out all the apps I was having issues with I had to go and Grant permissions to. Even magisk manager wouldn't download till I granted storage rights.

Thanks, but I did grant storage rights, still no luck
I have another pixel 3 xl and that doesn't have this issue.
I guess factory reset is in the cards ?

Or you can reset app permisions configuration back to default, will clear any bugs that are stopping it from working.

Has any one got a solution to why the android market will let you download some apps but not others. This problem only happens with certain apps.
Contacted one of the app developers, and he thinks there may be a problem with my data partition.
I'm on stock rom, latest froyo update, and have not rooted. thanks, in advance, for your help.
Do you get an error message?
I just get the message installation unsuccessful
Try resetting ur phone and clear cach or make a different Google account
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
region and ROM version also apply
Go to menu/settings/applications/manage applications click the all tab and scroll down to market. Clear data and cache. That should fix it.

+1 for this but if not can you list some example apps so we can see if it's just you (B. East) or not?
The apps i seem to have a problem with are, Cordy the game, storage analyzer, and gun brothers game. I some times have problems with updating from the market. I have to un-install some apps then download them again to update. this happens when the app has been moved to the sd card, but not with all the apps that I have moved to the sd card

No problems here. This is going to be something up with your phone.

Not all apps like being on the SD Card. Do all your apps specifically say they have been updated to allow them to be moved to sd card?
You may have to move them to phone if they continue to cause issues (and to be honest, with a 1GB internal memory, putting apps onto a slow sd card really isn't worth doing.

Did you try this?
If all of the above fails to work you will probably have to factory reset the phone.
I tend to download using wifi, going to try downloading over 3g and see if that makes any difference, if not, will do a factory reset. thanks for the help though.
Before you do that you still haven't said if you cleared the market cache. Did you?
yes, i done that, tried to download again and got a message, "could not install on USB storage or sd card". First time I have seen that message.
Is this whilst trying to update an app or download a new one?
If to update then move the app to the phone first.
this is trying to download a new app.
Had a quick Google and found something to try.
mount the phone so you can access the sdcard.
Set to show hidden files
Go to folder .android_secure
Delete a file in there smdl2tmp1.asec
Then try again.
thanks, I will give it a go. can I use a file explorer to do this, because am not sure how you mount the phone, I am quite new to android, use to use winmo mobiles
you can yes, my favourites are Astro, Linda and ES.
I had a look in android_secure, made sure all hidden files would be visible, and could not find any files at all. checked to make sure that the hidden file visible setting in the file explorer was switched to the correct setting, and could not see any files at all.
Have I lost some files? if i have i have no idea how. do I need to do a factory reset?

Damn. When I found that possible solution I noticed that as many people said they did have it as said they didn't. I was hoping you would be lucky.
In this case the same file (apparently this is a known bug and has been marked for next version fix) is being stored in the system directory of the phone and without root you can't get access to it.
I'm afraid the only way to clear it (without root) is a factory reset, sorry.
thanks for your help, I will factory reset and see what happens.
Hi, I recently updated to the cm11 stable from cm10.2 and am having the google play problem of insufficient storage, but only for the snapchat app. All other apps update and install fine. I have tons of free space and have tried cleanmaster and app cache cleaner to find residual files, and cant find any large amounts of log files taking up space either. I'm not sure how to deal with this issue since, so far, it is specific to only 1 app. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I actually just figured it out surprisingly on my own. It started happening with other apps too. In /data/app-lib there were multiples of some app folders named something along the lines of "chrome-1" and "chrome-2" or "snapchat-1" and "snapchat-2". When I deleted the "-2" folder for the app that wasn't updating or downloading the error was gone. Hopefully this could be helpful to anyone else with a similar problem.
Be it an apk from my sd card or from google play. It doesn't matter what size it is. Some will install fine some will claim i need to free up space.
And i have 1.1gb free + link2sd linking bigger files to my sd card.
Why would some things not install?
*edit
sitting at 1.9gb free
just deleted backup apks and rebooted and still no go.

Disabling or un-installing? If not the same what is just disabling? Cause wouldn't that stop the other apps that are linked not to work?
It's also doing this on some (still random and not all) updates too :/
Just unlinked all apps and uninstalled Link2Sd and rebooted. Nothing has changed.

The modded play store could be messing with it. Especially if Google Play tries to update itself (which is does without telling you) might even mess with the edits. You would have to get a logcat when you try to install something that says there's not enough storage space. The package manager should throw some sort of code to let us know whats going on.

Tried to install logcat and it gave me the same error lol
This happens when you have a corrupt data Dir for the app.
Use Root Explorer or something similar, and go to data/data and look for the app folder that is giving you the error message and delete the app folder.
You should be able to reinstall the app.

Thanks but there is no folder in relation to this app. And I get the same error when trying fresh apps never before installed. Its very very random to even the size, which leans towards smaller sized.

Stuff isn't installed to the system. Your apps are installed to the /data so it doesn't matter how much free space is in /system.

Updated last night from the latest Pie to Q Beta 3. I use Solid Explorer quite a bit. Upon opening it today, it appears to not view the file system. Google Files shows internal storage with no issue. I have cleared cache and data. Verified permissions on storage. The only thing it will display is a folder called Android inside is data, media, obb. Data and media show Solid Explorer items and the obb is the normal directories.
Has anyone had any issue similar to this?

Thank you! That worked for me too
Many apps are not working after updating to beta 3 update
Too many bugs, i guess thats the point of it being a beta?
I keep trying the beta, and after a couple of days going back to Pie. The beta is a bit laggy, occasional lockups, thirstier battery, and just overall not as smooth.
I have solid explorer as well. Every time i uninstall and re-install solid it works but after a few hours it breaks again.
Same issue with MiXplorer
I am still using ES, trying to make the switch to Solid or another file app. The ES just has too many features that I use, and I like the way it works, despite that no one else likes it and it was banned from the play store.
Hey guys. It looks like on my s 21 timobile version I am unable to download any files in Firefox and Chrome. Is there any workaround it? My Sammy also blocked any incoming wiles when I truied direct wifi transfer - it just didn't allow files to be downloaded to the phone. Surprisingly I was able to download files in stock browser but that is not my preferred browser. Please advise if you know any solutions or workarounds for downloading files in other browsers. Not rooted and prefer not to root. Thank you.
What kind of a problem is this? How can apps not access storage? Is this a joke?
Check storage permission and camera permission. (some apps may need camera permission to access image files)
Try rebooting the phone.
Try clearing cache memory of the app.
Try reinstalling the app. In case of chrome then uninstall updates and update it from playstore.
Try Advanced download manager from playstore.
If none of the above works, then you definitely did something to your phone that caused this bizarre issue and I'd like you to explain exactly what you did.

It's not a joke. That's why I am asking. Clean phone out of the box and unable to do wifi direct transfer(it just stays at zero). Same happens when I try downloading anything from the browser(message is download failed).
OP, 3 duplicate threads, really?
Try holding your finger down on the download link then selkecting save link
