Hello,
I don't find the answer to my questions on the internet... I wished to know for how long is 15.1 version supported (I don't have any updates for several months, it only suggests to upgrade to 16 version...). Can I keep it even if there are no updates ? Second question : if I install 16 version it will erase all my apps (my Fairphone is encrypted too). Thank you for your answers because it is difficult to have any from LineageOs website...

I can only answer in "General" terms...
Answer to your 1st Question:
Yes. One of my devices actually has LineageOS 13.0 still and another has LineageOS 14.1 as well. I, personally, only use the older versions on those for testing purposes but, they do work for me.
Just remember, when it comes to using the older LineageOS versions, your not going to actively receive any security updates (and such) to the firmware. Even though I use the older versions myself, I've got to keep this in mind as well.
Answer to your 2nd Question:
Yes/No/Maybe. It's a challenge to explain but, I'll do what I can.
Yes, you can Upgrade/Migrate from one "Official" LineageOS build to an upgraded build. The LineageOS 16.0 is "supposed to" work this way by design.
Regarding the encryption, I'm not stating that this is for all devices but, I've seen allot of members having various issues when performing LineageOS Upgrades on encrypted devices.
So, before you do so, be sure to backup whatever you can and, as always, keep in mind to "hope for the best but, prepare for the worse".
It's "only" recommended/encouraged to perform a fresh installation when upgrading to a newer Android version for a few reasons (ie... Incompatible Android Apps and such).
I hope I had explained this okay via text...
Good Luck!

Unless asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my Apple Macintosh.
Thank you for your answer ! I just installed LineageOs 16 et it works fine (even the encryption). It didn't erased anything ! Have a good day

Upgrade from official Lineage OS 14.1 possible but as usual clean install is better. Good time to wipe that phone clean.
Please update TWRP to the latest. If you have this device and don't know how to install please follow above procedure.
If you have device encryption enabled, consider removing as its a bit touch and go. As usual always have a full backup and separate copy of your data/pictures.
And the caveat you are responsible for what you do with your device applies and no one else is responsible for your action. People may be able to help if you ask kindly.
Official channel released finally on the 18th of July 2018.
Super effort by Devs specially jrior001, so please donate if you can.
PS I am just making this thread as there is none and it was released atleast 6 days ago and in no way taking any credit for the ROM or the work done by DEVS.

I am sure you are joking but for those who dont know its 3.2.1-0

Please select appropriate file and upgrade as image. If you dont know which file to use it means you need to read up more.
Is that cyanogenmods website some kind of fan site? It doesn't look official.
Kernel
Is anybody working on the included Kernel?
The background of my question is that I am experiencing spontaneous reboots when physically leaving a Wi-Fi connection, particularly my home Wi-Fi.
This defect was present in LineageOS 14.1 as well. There I could solve the problem completely by installing the latest Franco Kernel. However, in LineageOS 15.1 the Franco Kernel leads to very frequent soft reboots, like 5 in one hour, so I am now back on the stock kernel.
The only workaround I know is to disable Wi-Fi before leaving a Wi-Fi area, then re-enabling it.
Before other users jump in and state that they don't have this defect, not everybody has it. It is not clear under which conditions the defect shows up. It may depend on certain apps being present. But obviously it is not the apps' fault, as the fact proves that the Franco Kernel resolved it in LineageOS 14.1. Not to mention that no app has the right to reboot the system.

THREAD CLOSED
Perhaps this questions appears a couple of time, but I do not find an answer:
Some Apps are the opinion I am using a jailbreaked or rooted mobile. My mobile device is for shure not rooted or something.
What I did:
I have the good old oneplus one. Until last Friday it was working with the last stock CM 13.1. And with this it was working since years.
But I want to have an update to the latest release, to go technically on latest OS. So I installed LineageOS nightly 15.1.
First of all: great work. It is running fluidly with no problems.
Only some issues with rooting?!
My OpO is not rooted. Some apps I need for my daily work can not be installed like the ServiceNow. Some other apps say: no support, because of a rooted mobile like Mercedes me.
I tried to root it for afterwards to unroot. But our companies policy app immediately factory resets my phone after installing SuperSU. From this issue I know, it is not rooted. I checked with RootChrcker as well: unrooted.
Why some specific apps mean: rooted?

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread that's specific to your device for member guidance and support.
(Though, the title states 14.1, the threads title just wasn't changed yet to reflect the 15.1.)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3543489
If all else fails, and you don't receive any responses from the above thread, you can always try to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2731638
Just an FYI... In general, all of the Official LineageOS builds are not rooted by default. This is why the Lineage Team provides flashable Root Addons located at the bottom of the device listing on their downloads page that's labeled "Extras".
SuperSU and others alike are just optional choices and should not be flashed together.
Good Luck!

I DO NOT provide support via PM unless asked/requested by myself. PLEASE keep it in the threads where everyone can share.
@Lowrider39, did you flahsed addonsu zip?
In you have, please go to the Setting >> Developer Options >> Root Access.
Select 'Apps and ADB' if you haven't done so.
Maybe this helps. (this whined me, too for a while).
I have only been using lineageOS for a couple weeks and wanted to get advice before I call it bugs:
1) i could not flash 20181023 after a wipe, nor one or two nightly before that. i had to go back to 20181002 and then apply 20181023 on top of it without wiping.
2) i could not root using addonsu-15.1-arm64-signed.zip on 20181023. i had used it on 20181002 somewhat successfully, however, something had happened more than once which un-rooted it.
observation: TWRP 3.2.3.1 seems to require a passcode now or else /sdcard/ looks jumbled (likely encrypted). i don't recall this happening until this load.
related question: any good advice about general handling of A/B partition style phone? before i used other custom ROMs with samsung s6 which didn't have that and seems to make everything harder.

that page answered my question about root
"root su addon (Optional): https://download.lineageos.org/extras Note: Use arm64 zip. After installing the su addon, you can enable root in developer options."
i didn't know i still had to enable root in developer options the other ways i have rooted other phones did not

there are also better instructions on that page than on the LOS wiki for marlin. there are other img files to flash first I was not aware of.
Hi
I currently trying to root my oneplus3 with LineageOs 16 (last version).
I tried with su from extra section addonsu-16.0-arm64-signed.zip and with SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip.
Every time, flash is OK but when I try with root checker, root doesn-t work.
On setting, I set root for ADB and apps.
Any ideas how to root a oneplus3 with lineage 16 ?
Thank for the help :good:

At this point in time, SuperSU isn't working well on LineageOS 16.0 in general.
The AddonSU has been having issues with many members as well and I do know that there's been some discussion/work being done with it by the Lineage Team as well.
Apparently the Magisk has been working well for many individuals and I plan to try it out myself soon.
Sorry I can't be much more helpful than this but, I just wanted to bring the above information to your attention too.
Good Luck!

TBH, your best bet is to ask for some member guidance within one of the following Magisk Specific threads since I only have a working knowledge of Magisk and am still trying to familiarize myself with using it...

... Keep in mind that errors provided/reflected on the TWRP Terminal screen (you provided) is extremely limited.
In general, the TWRP Logs actually has more detailed information for better support. So any time you receive an error on the TWRP Terminal, go right to where the area is to save the Logs for you to submit for support.
The following image is a quick little Helper Guide to where to go in TWRP for saving the TWRP Logs.
I wish you the best of luck!

Addeonsu has to work. The decision arm/arm64 depends on ROM not hardware. In older 64 bit hardware lineageOS has 32 bit.
With all that root flashing your boot partition is maybe messed up. Try clean flash. That's a good basis for a bug report.
PS.: read your own screenshot!
Hello, Hydro8. i have the same problem with Lineage 16 and have been checking different forums and Google but haven't seen anything yet which might help us. i guess we'll just have to keep checking - perhaps this might be the best thread/forum "The AddonSU has been having issues with many members as well and I do know that there's been some discussion/work being done with it by the Lineage Team as well. " although i haven't found the Lineage web forums yet. i suspect there are none - only reddit and the chat space.
Have a great morning!

Do you really have the same "boot image patched by unsupported programs"?
Dear kurtn. i was happy to receive a reply so quickly! However i'm at a loss as to how to answer your question "Do you really have the same "boot image patched by unsupported programs"? " Perhaps you could expand a little.
In the meantime, have a radiant morning!
Hi
I have a Honor 5X (kiwi / KIW-L21) as my daily driver and as its nearing the end of it warranty (2 years) its starting to run slower (good job, Huawei). Given this and the fact that during these two years i never received ANY update apart from an update to android 6.0.1 from android 5, im considering switching to LOS 16.
The thing is im completely new to custom ROMs, recovery, phone rooting and that jazz and im a bit scared.
I wanted to know if there is a way I can try out LOS 16 (say for example on a VM) to be sure that i like it before installing.
If not, would I be able to restore my phone back to its current OS in case i dont like LOS and want to fall back to EMUI ?
PS : I wanted to try it out on an older phone I have and for which i dont care as much, but its not supported :'( Its an Asus Zenfone go ZB552KL
Thanks in advance !
The oldphone approach is a good idea. Go to a recycling place and grab some old Motorola or Samsung phones. Broken screen is OK.

My local trash collecting place isn't very open to people who want to take stuff (yes, what a nonesense) but i'll try that i guess. The thing is we have like 3 or 4 old phones but none of them are listed as compatible on the LOS website

You don't need official. Search XDA and you will find unofficial lineageOS for many old phones. https://twrp.me/Devices/ is a good place to find the phone's code name. With that you can check stats.lineageos.org for popular ROM versions.
Will give it a look, thanks.
If nothing usefull comes out of this investigation and I end up doing it on my 5X, is there a way for me to backup the whole phone (i mean not just data, like the whole OS) that way I can fall back to its current state if something goes wrong / i dont like LOS ?

To be honest, there's various ways for backing up a whole device but, there's limited (possibly no) choices that all depends upon the device itself and the capabilities of said device. So there's no real way of answering this question without, also, taking under consideration that what works for one may/may not work for another.
With that stated...
I've always found that the only way to know if I like something as huge as updating the Custom Android version Firmware, is to "Hope for the Best and Prepare for the Worse".
I've been successful with Restoring TWRP Backups made but, have always had an (approximately) 50% +/- of a restoration working without any issues (a chance of requiring a fresh installation in the end).
In another words...
The only "recommended" way to upgrade/downgrade the LineageOS Android Versions is to make sure you have everything on hand for performing a fresh installation for both the upgrading and the downgrading of both Android Versions.
For anyone to guide you any other way should (ethically) be able to provide you with guidance in case something goes wrong in the process (of said guidance) with your specific device.
You should also ask for support and guidance within the LineageOS thread and, if needed, somewhere within the Device Dedicated Area of the forum that's specific to your device. This will help locate assistance from those who has your device as well.
For example...
[ROM][9.0.x] LineageOS 16.0 Official (kiwi) [NO VoLTE] by BadDaemon
[ROM] [9.x] LineageOS 16.0 Pie Unofficial for Honor 5x (kiwi) by coldhans

Hi there, thanks for the answer and sorry for the delayed reaction, I was busy
I will investigate on the linked threads and see what I want to do after that. My main concern being fingerprint sensor gestures (I know, stupid habits lol) asking on the kiwi forum is definitely a good idea. Same things for installing TWRP and the recovery, someone there would probably be able to help.
Thanks a lot for your time
