I have been using CM10 for awhile and usually find it to be great. However recently I have noticed my phone doesn't seem to last a full day anymore and this is minimal screen time. I updated to CM10.1 (RC2) when it was released, I'm not sure if that contributed or if there's something else I'm missing. I have found the best performance by disabling LTE and using WiFi whenever possible. Still though it lasts 9 hours with about 1h30m screen time. If I use it anymore the battery may only last 5 or 6 hours, and this is just using it for occasional web browsing and some texting.
My service provider is Koodo (Telus) and I live in Burnaby BC, so I usually have a pretty good cell signal.
I have attached some screenshots of my battery usage. This was on a day with only light usage and no music or media used; LTE was disabled and WiFi was on.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this, or if this is normal would be appreciated.

Did you update your bootloaders? If so, you probably have the LK4 modem, I'd try flashing the LL1.
Also, you can download BBS (BetterBatteryStats) from here to help narrow down what drains your battery.
It has been known that CM10.1 has been giving poor battery life ever since the Linux 3.4 kernel rebase. I'm not sure if there is a fix, or if the CM guys are working on it at all... It has been 7 days since the last kernel commit for d2.

I can support this, I am getting about the same battery life as you. Ever since updating to RC2 I have noticed that my battery life has diminished. I have a spare samsung battery, and normally I wake up, boot and go to school and use my phone a fair amount for texting, researching, and music. A full charge will usually support this until around 10-12 hours later, then I change batteries in the evening play more music and web browse. I took a screenshot of my battery history a few days ago, you'll notice that the graph increases without the phone ever being connected to a power source.
Has anyone checked their "Cell Standby" to see if there is any time without signal showing?
If you haven't toggled your LTE off, have a look sometime and let me know. If it is showing a percentage of time without signal, go back to your battery life graph and see if there is any RED in your Mobile Network Signal. If you see time without signal but no red in the bar let me know.
I've got some ideas on why battery life isn't great and I'm trying to build a case for it. Guys who frequent locations with poor LTE (4G) signals are who I'm mostly looking to get data from.

Poor signal is one hell of a battery drainer. I would suggest trying different modems to find one that works better in your area.

No no. Modems do not affect this issue at all and with the new phones now a days modems don't play as big of a role as they used to with signal strength. Anyway this issue is bigger than that. CM10.1 isn't reporting 4G low signal strenght correctly. It jumps from -115 at one bar to 0dBm no bars instead of switching over to a 3G signal or showing a value that is accurate like -117dBm.
Flashing back to the M1 release of CM10.1 or even to stock and the handoff from 4G to 3G is seamless. We aren't seeing that anymore with the later released even as early as RC1.

I can probably come up with some data, when I'm at work I generally get a low signal, I never toggle LTE, though I live in a town of ~8000 people, far from major centres. I believe we have HSPA+, but I'm generally connected to 3G. Right now, I've had normal battery life, (no increasing), and 0% time without signal, should I ever have <0% I'll message you some data. Thanks for your work!
I can confirm that I'm having this issue as well. I live in a 4G city (Boston), but my high school has practically no 4G reception. I noticed that unless airplane mode is enabled in the school, I have a battery drain of about ~1 per 5 minutes. The battery stats shows certain red areas when the signal is close to 0.
I'm running the latest nightly (5/29), but I'm flashing back to the M1 ROM until this is fixed. If I encounter any issues with this ROM, I'm probably going to flash back to stock.
Hopefully the devs can get on this when they have time.

Battery life has actually improved quite a bit since rc2, but when I'm at school, where the signal is bad (most of the time I get "emergency calls only"), I see faster than usual battery drain as well. I think that this is normal though, because even my old dumbphone drained battery quickly when there was no signal.

Emergency Calls Only and Red in the mobile network history aren't what I'm referring too with my issue.
Those two things would indicate you phone had no cell signal at all to your carrier. I'm talking about being on such a poor 4G signal but still being connected to the Roger's network. It's hard to explain.
Anyway I appreciate your input.

I'm still connected to the AT&T network, but it's a very weak signal when I'm at school.
Just flashed back to stock, and the draining issue disappeared. I guess there's still some issue regarding cell signal that's draining the battery.
I've got the same issue, I thought it was just me. I'm on Rogers
I even lose battery (about 1% every 30 minutes) while plugged in and charging, if I'm listening to music, and checking my phone once every half hour for texts or emails.
The other day at the gym while listening to music and using 1 note taking app, it went from 95% to 15%. When I checked, it said the phone was active for 1 hour and 5 minutes even though I never used the phone.
I'm going to install that bettery battery status app now.

No better no worse, my battery life has always been great. Example today, unplugged at 7 am , no recharges during the day and it's at 55%.

You are not alone. I used to be able to go a couple of days on a single charge. Now I'm struggling to make it 12 hours on a single charge.
I was getting almost 2 days when I first started using the note4. After a few months passed I noticed battery life dropping pretty fast throughout the day. Factory resets helped a little, but not much. Lollipop upgrade plus factory reset has seemed to help. I get through a full day now with light browsing/gps(maps)/gaming and fair amount of spotify streaming. Nothing close to what I was getting fresh out of the box.
I am experiencing similar battery issues. Used to charge my phone once every two days. Now, I carry my charger attached to my hip like a feeble iPhone hipster.
I'm also having issues!
I also have seen a large decrease in my battery life since updating to Lollipop. I tried factory resetting twice and nothing seems to help. I was getting 8-9 hours of screen on time on Android 4.4.4 but now I'm somewhere between 4.5-5.5.
Also my note 4 will occasionally get really hot after just normal web browsing. I'm very disappointed in the update. However, performance seems to be a little better....but it wasn't ever really an issue.
I just read an article on gsmarena about the international version of the Samsung galaxy note 4 receiving a firmware update.....hopefully that fixes the problems we're having. We just have to wait for Verizon to send out the update. (Which will probably take a couple of weeks to months).
One thing to keep in mind is that we (those who are having these issues) need to make sure that we contact Verizon in order to make sure that they acknowledge the problem and send out a fix ASAP.

Passpoint Wi-Fi
Noticed that there is a "new" Passpoint Wi-Fi feature that will automatically connect to certified access points.
This is ON by default after the Lollipop update. (Settings >> Wi-Fi >> Advanced)
I just turned it off to see if battery life improves. Never been a fan of automatic Wi-Fi connection features.

My Note 4 has the battery drain issue now after updating last night to Lollipop but am giving a couple days to see if any improvement. I did do a battery pull after all the updates (system and apps) and it did seem to help.
My Note originally for a couple of days had the battery drain issue. However, after uninstalling the Google Fit app then a reboot the battery life has been great.
Maybe try a battery pull for 20 seconds as well.

I think the easiest way to contact Verizon is just by talking with the technical support. Good representatives are hit or miss but Verizon's are generally good.
If you contact them just explain the issue that you are having and they should be putting it on record saying that multiple people are calling in concerning a battery problem. They may have even figured out the culprit (s) and/or found a fIx.

Hi guys, Im very concerned about in the last week I felt the phone gets constantly hot, especially when using wi fi or fat and I've noticed it gets very hot when using walking dead no mans land game connected to wi fi, and even when browsing.
Previously I've used the phone with heavy multitasking and gaming and never had this issue.
Even when charging now I felt the phone get unusually hot.
Before I've notice this heating issue I've flashed and tested a lot of roms, and finally back to OrionOS 2.6.1, this is my actual rom.
I'm with phone for two months and neves had this issue
Any idea of a possible cause and solution???
I'm very concerned because I know the effect of the heating on battery life and overall performance.
I've upload some screenshots of the normal temperature of the phone with gaming or extense browsing.
PD: when I've noticed the heating issue I've flashed a lot of roms to see if is a rom related issue but same issue with all roma even with stock Oxygen and stock kernel.

Yes, my previous phone s6 edge used to work over 50+ mostly of time and nubia z9 even hotter temperatures but OP3 with almost two months of use never used to pass over 40 with about 10 different roms I've used.. That's why I'm concerned now, but maybe it's most a subjective feeling of temperature.

Thanks for your quick response, Ill try flashing new modem.. I've read in other posts about some overheating issues related to network searching, so I've turn off network,, enter airplane mode, but with wi fi heating persists, i suspect it's something wi fi related.

It's pretty normal that your phone gets warm while playing games.

Dont know what you call overheating. The phone wont overheat due the thermal throttle. I would start complaining when your battery reaches 45+ (not when charging and using) and your CPU +75. But believe me it wont come that high!

Since I have updated on nougat, my battery quickly goes empty.
I reach a maximum of 2 hours SOT.
According to "BetterBatteryStats", the operating system consumes the most energy.
No matter whether Stock Rom or currently with "PureNexus" and ElementalX Kernel with GhostPepper profile, the battery is still very fast empty.
I also wonder what the Wakelock *job delay* and *job deadline* mean.
Now is the question, do you have the problems since nougat, too.
And is the problem the operating system or rather the battery, what do you have for experiences?
With marshmallow I had up to 5 hours SOT, therefore I will downgrade.
Whether it will be better, I will report.
im finding that when my WLAN is off then my drain is negligible. Whilst with it on i see a steady drain overnight.
That might be how i have my phone setup, but not sure.
I now have tasker setup to disable wifi, location, data and swap to 2g at night (i have terrible 3g/4g reception in my bedroom). it seems to help for overnight drain but not daily usage.
I have never had good battery life with this phone, by the end of the day it is usually almost dead with only about 1.5 hours of actual use.
I have the same feeling.
If you confirm that downgrading solve the problem, I will try the same.

Battery has been fine for me. Your phone is never idling properly from the looks of it, despite not being show an awake. Not sure what that means though.
Is there some issue with your WiFi or data signal? I've not seen the WiFi X myself.

I have not changed my settings so far, only slight improvements, which I have since I own the smartphone.
Mobile Data always to max 3g (have no LTE contract), GPS always on (only device), Wifi also always on and could reach thereby also up to 5 hours SOT.
Then I moved from the Google Stock Rom to PureNexus hoping it would help, well, wrongly thought.
And I have always done a clean installation. :silly:
I've been back for a day now on the last Marshmallow Rom (MTC20K) and I do not want to be too rash, but it seems to improve. :laugh:

Didn't see a thread covering this, so I figured I'd start one.
One issue that has plagued my Pixel 2XL is severely diminished LTE signal strength on Android 10. I first encountered this on beta 5, and again on beta 6. My signal dbm's were 10-15 less than on Pie, and the signal indicator was rarely, if ever, above 1 bar. My signal would fluctuate wildly based on location, and would rarely hold steady. Speed tests confirmed things. Extremely frustrating. It was such a problem that I eventually opted out of the beta program and rolled back to Pie before the official release of Android 10. Since then my signal strength has returned to normal and been steady and solid. I have not updated to official Android 10 yet, and keep hoping that this issue will be resolved through a monthly security patch. So far, from what I have been able to gather, this issue has not been fixed. There are several different threads covering this issue, as well as official issue tracker threads with Google:

I am having this issue on my 2XL, on AT&T, however this issue persists across devices and carriers, and doesn't seem to discriminate. As with most things though, there are plenty of folks who say they are not effected by this in the least.
So my question here is this:
Has anyone noticed a decrease in signal strength on Android 10 on the Pixel 2XL?

After some research, I found that the issue was with Android and my router which puts out a 5ghz and 2.4ghz signal - Android 10 would drop the signal when switching between the two. My solution for home was to turn off the 5ghz channel on my router and my issues with WiFi went away.
I don't use WiFi away from home frequently enough to see if this signal issue has persisted on other connections, hoping for a fix in the December security patch.
I am running Android 10, rooted with Magisk. Clean installed about two weeks ago and the issue was apparent from the get-go. Never had anything like this in Pie.
I can't say for sure on the LTE side as I never checked numbers prior to updating to A10B5, however signal strength barely shows on the indicator. Tower is 4 blocks away. My wifi is terrible and there appear many variations across Pixels. No solutions here but appears to be a widespread problem. FYI.

Last night, I received and flashed the OTA update. I went into my home route and turned on the 5ghz channel again and the WiFi issue immediately returned for me. So, sadly no fix in the December patch and at least in my experience, this is limited to 5ghz connections. For now, I've reverted by home WiFi back to 2.4ghz and it's working fine.

Just out of curiosity, how is your LTE signal strength on the December update? Dbm's and signal bars appear to be normal? Any dropped calls or slower than usual data speeds?
The WiFi issue sucks, but at least it can be worked around for now. There is no substituting for poor signal and connectivity though, and that is still a deal breaker for me moving forward.

If there has been a change with my LTE signal strength, I certainly don't notice it. I haven't had any dropped calls or slow data speeds.

Thanks, good to know. Not to beat a dead horse here, but in general, do you notice less signal bars on 10 than previously on Pie? On the betas, I rarely showed more than 1 bar at any given time, and dbm's were less across the board as well. Frustrating. I realize bars don't mean everything, obviously, and the only way to truly measure signal strength is by looking at the actual dbm's. Maybe something in the Android 10 code changed the way signal bars are calculated relative to dbm's?

No, I haven't noticed a change in bars or dbm's since the update. I live in the city and so my service signal has always been strong - no change since upgrading to 10. I should note that I didn't update to 10 until about a week or so ago and when I did, I did a clean flash and then rooted with Magisk. I have since updated to the December security patch, again with no change to my cellular signal.

Thanks, appreciate the responses. It's actually good to hear that things are normal on your end. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the complaints, and in the process not hear about those who have no issues at all. So strange how this bug seems to randomly effect people, across carriers and various Pixel devices. Some are majorly effected, some not at all. Would love to update, but it's a roll of the dice that I'm not sure I'm willing to take.
I’m wondering, why can’t/don’t you merely update to 10, try it out and see how things go for about a week, and if it’s not a good experience for you, merely roll-back using the Full Factory Pie/9 image?
In any case, I am under Verizon and haven’t noticed any lowering of network signal or performance. I do experience some need to re-initialize the wifi – but, to be fair, I had that issue in Pie – but maybe not as frequent.
Either way, many/most have a good enough positive experience that it’s simply at least worth a try; at least on a temporary basis. But, again either way, good luck and hope this helps…

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I am probably one of the few Pixel owners out there who are still running completely stock and unrooted, and I also never bothered to unlock the bootloader. So needless to say, having the ability/option to flash back to the factory image for PIe, should things go sideways, would take some work. I'll probably update at some point, but I have had literally zero issues on PIe. It runs flawlessly for me, and always has, so the thought of introducing potential problems makes me a bit hesitant. Just wanted to try to see how widespread this signal issue was., that's all.
